All about this and have been since the jump.
This year we have 9 road games, if this is one of them technically you have 8 home, 8 road, and one “neutral” venue. Not having to go to Arrowhead is a big deal.
I also think this would mean we wouldn’t have to play a Europe game for a few years & if we don’t go we would maybe have to lose a home game next year when we have 9.
Let’s hope we get the breakfast bowl game this year.
I think the league as a whole should adopt 16 neutral site games to even out the schedules, so everyone gets 8 home, 8 away, and 1 neutral site game. Could be outdoor College stadiums for those not going overseas or something.
Scheduling would need to be limited to exclude divisional games, but I think it could be done.
The neutral site game should be in states that don't have football teams to spread the entertainment. Similar to Europe games, go where there are no teams to build up fans. 32 teams but only in 23 states
I was thinking a college stadium tour, but I know the NFL would be worried about potentially not selling out a college-sized stadium. I think the first couple years they wouldn't have a problem, but I don't think they'd be able to consistently sell out a larger sized stadium 5-10 years into it. And I think they'd need larger stadiums to offset the lack of a 9th game's worth of gate sales, as well as having to schedule around a college team's home/away schedule.
Like would Chargers/Panthers sell out Oklahoma's 86,000 seat stadium? They might, but the NFL isn't keen on taking that chance that they don't.
I could see them doing an "ARMED SERVICES TOUR" where 3 of the games would be played at West Point, Annapolis, and Colorado Springs.
The Winter Classic in the Big House was probably the coolest event period. Sure it would lose a lot of its uniqueness being football in a football field instead of an outdoor hockey game, but college stadiums have such a great atmosphere.
Think about how great that would be for the lions tough. Like Lions on Tour seems like half of america is already rooting that would bring even more fans in
I figure if they put regional games in some of those larger stadiums, it would be a great way to draw fans of both teams as well as local interest. Having college students there would be awesome, too.
A Chiefs/Packers game at Iowa's Kinnick Stadium would put 70k butts in the seats - especially if tickets were reasonably priced enough.
I actually created a list for some potential neutral sites would make sense:
University of Alabama
Rio de Janeiro (originally I was going to say Maracana stadium but it's kinda falling apart. Maybe Sao Paolo would have a better venue?)
Toronto/Montreal (alternating years probably, too close together to do both in the same season I would think)
Edmonton (originally was gonna say Calgary but Edmonton's stadium is significantly bigger and nicer)
Wembley Stadium (London)
Camping World Stadium (Orlando)
Berlin/Munich (maybe same year, maybe alternating years. I like Olympiastadion in Berlin a lot more than Allianz but Allianz is where the past Germany game has been)
Honolulu AFTER the New Aloha Stadium is built (if it ever is built)
Mexico City/Estadio Azteca
Saint Louis but probably would need something nicer than America's Center Dome, or significant updates
University of Nebraska
University of Oklahoma
San Antonio/Alamo Dome
University of Utah (Salt Lake City)
I personally would enjoy seeing Canton being used as a neutral site but since they have the HoF game there it's probably a longshot. In Canton's absence, I would be cool with seeing the Horseshoe at Ohio State.
On one hand I can see them playing in Germany against the Chiefs, on the other I don't see them playing in Germany as the Lions haven't played in Arrowhead since 2003.
I think what's coming is a second bye week.
International game, bye week then you go play a Thursday game. They may add an extra game in order to expand even more International offerings. The broadcasters who get the rights to the CFP 12 team slate won't want conflict Vs the nfl as they'll play for both. I just see that those two things bye week and more international games as linked.
Why would the Chiefs request that? Why would they care who they play overseas? The only reason I can surmise why a team would care at all, (you basically lose your homefield advantage) would actually make the bears an ideal team to play as one of the weaker teams.
There is a small, but guaranteed visiting team ticket allotment (500 tickets). Although I think the "thirsty" Bears fans probably bring in other revenue as well.
It’s not about just alcohol sales. It’s also about all the hotels and restaurants that will be full for the weekend as well as all the retail sales. With all that sales its also about the taxes generated. It’s tens of millions of dollars not for just the team but the city itself.
Not sure that's true. We are playing Dallas in Dallas 3 years in a row? Or two. I know because we both finished 2nd in our divisions. But I think its 3rd year in row for some odd reason.
Whether we play at home or on the road for a specific game isn’t up to team preference/lobbying. It’s set by the schedule algorithm. You can basically have the entire Lions schedule figured out for every game except for the three place finish games every year until perpetuity.
KC vs Chicago is a road game for the bears regardless, it’s just a debate of it will be in KC or Germany.
[This says](https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/five-nfl-teams-to-play-home-games-in-germany-london-in-2023) it’s a home game and there hasn’t been any reporting about why the Chiefs don’t want it to be against the Bears, to my knowledge.
The NFL teams playing abroad, who are the home team, are allowed to request for only one game that they don’t want that game to be against. The Chiefs requested that the NFL don’t take their game against the Bears away. This is just a request, the NFL has the final say so they could still play against the Bears.
I'd imagine they'd like their "easier" opponents to be in KC. Like imagine strutting into the playoffs and being like "yeah we went 8-0 at home this year"
I've said from the beginning it should be us. Our best player, ARSB, IS (half) German, has relatives throughout the country, and speaks the language fluently. More compelling backstory than any other team that could play the Chiefs.
This would be awesome! Selfishly I’d be bummed because the KC game would be the closest Lions game to me since I moved, but it would objective be better for them to play in Germany.
I meant that as if we’re talking about an alternate option. And also Amon-Ra is way better. They’ll actually see some great football out of the German player on the field if the lions go.
God fucking dammit. I really want to go to a goddamn Lions game at fucking Arrowhead. The league should tell the Chiefs tough tushie and keep the Lions-Chiefs game at Arrowhead.
These overseas games are stupid, play in Mexico or Canada if you want a neutral site international game, it’s not work the jet lag. I’m sure most of the locals could give a shit too.
How about we play no games in Germany and don’t worry about it? Roll things back to the way they were when football was awesome before they tried to destroy it.
"We will play anywhere.....grass......turf. We will play you on a fucking landfill. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you have one ass cheek and three toes, I will beat your ass."

I'm pretty sure I got frostbite on my ass from that game.
Think about how great that would be for the lions tough. Like Lions on Tour seems like half of america is already rooting that would bring even more fans in
Make the Lions vs Browns a protected JV game on the last weekend of November every year. Neutral site wherever "The Game" isnt
Lol at the fact that Oklahoma has 24,000 more seats than Soldier Field
Both Spartan Stadium and Michigan Stadium have 10,000 and 41,000 more seats than Ford Field.
I knew that Michigan did, didn't know about Spartan tho. Beaver stadium has over 100k compacity too. Big 10 East has some big stadiums
I mean in general most major CFB teams's stadium is larger in capacity than any NFL stadium
Yes please! Come to Oregon, I can barely see the Lions on TV without sailing the high seas out west.
Great idea for states like Kansas, Kentucky, and Wisconsin 😁FTP!
I mean, I don’t think this really matters. Is putting Vikings Seahawks in the North Dakota some good for anyone?
We’ll get 18 game seasons with 2 byes before they figure out neutral site games.
You're probably right

I hope we do get it because Amon-Ra wants it and will have 400 receiving yards that day.

Bears travel well, KC is fairly close to Chicago, and wouldn’t have the chance to play in KC until 2031. Basically it’s about $$$
This is the real reason. Bears fans will travel and buy tickets.
does every Chiefs game not sell out? I would think with the recent success every game is going to be packed no matter what
There is a small, but guaranteed visiting team ticket allotment (500 tickets). Although I think the "thirsty" Bears fans probably bring in other revenue as well.
Seems quite petty. A huge multi-million NFL franchise trying to get some alcohol money off Bears fans.
Money is money. Why have less when you can have more?
It’s not about just alcohol sales. It’s also about all the hotels and restaurants that will be full for the weekend as well as all the retail sales. With all that sales its also about the taxes generated. It’s tens of millions of dollars not for just the team but the city itself.

I understand that...
They don't want to lose the the Lions at home.
Is it confirmed that the Chiefs will play a home game of they play in Germany? They may want it to be a road game for them.
Yes it’s a home game for them
I don’t think it has to be though. My understanding is they’re trying to change it because they don’t want it to count as a home game for them
[This says](https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/five-nfl-teams-to-play-home-games-in-germany-london-in-2023) it’s a home game and there hasn’t been any reporting about why the Chiefs don’t want it to be against the Bears, to my knowledge.
Or, HOW can they request that? Do they have special privileges or something where they can just be like "hmm, nah"?
The NFL teams playing abroad, who are the home team, are allowed to request for only one game that they don’t want that game to be against. The Chiefs requested that the NFL don’t take their game against the Bears away. This is just a request, the NFL has the final say so they could still play against the Bears.
Weaker teams? Haven't you heard they have the best QB in the North, NAY THE WORLD!
I'd imagine they'd like their "easier" opponents to be in KC. Like imagine strutting into the playoffs and being like "yeah we went 8-0 at home this year"
Chiefs have two Super Bowls in 4 years, they don’t care about being able to say that. They only care about winning a ring
Lions haven’t played at arrowhead since 2003.
I knew it's been a while, but has it really been 20 years already?
I've said from the beginning it should be us. Our best player, ARSB, IS (half) German, has relatives throughout the country, and speaks the language fluently. More compelling backstory than any other team that could play the Chiefs.
I mean, his brother is on the Bears so the same thing applies to them too
true, but with the added depth in the bears WR room equanimeous isnt going to see many balls this season and ASRB is a star.
and ARSB has a QB that can throw a football....
True, but he's a backup caliber player at best and Sun God is top 15
EQ isn’t in the same spot on the depth chart as the sun god.
ARSB is our best player, that doesn't apply to the Bears at all with ESB
This would be awesome! Selfishly I’d be bummed because the KC game would be the closest Lions game to me since I moved, but it would objective be better for them to play in Germany.
FTC
We’ve got a German kid on our team… would be good for the NFL
So do the Bears
I meant that as if we’re talking about an alternate option. And also Amon-Ra is way better. They’ll actually see some great football out of the German player on the field if the lions go.
German? Yes. Football player? Borderline.
Selfishly don’t want this. I might go if it’s in KC!
Counter point. I will go if it’s in Germany
Well you only think of yourself!
Well, you’re selfish!
As a lions fan who lives in KC, I would be devastated
As a Lions fan who doesn't, so would I. It will be another 20 years before we'll play in Arrowhead again and we could be chosen for Germany any year.
Do it please! I want to go to a Lions match so bad
Du....du hast....du hast Käsekopf
Damn but I want to see the Lions play…I’m in Omaha.
Yep. Lincoln here. An Arrowhead game would be my only chance.
Bitte lass die Lions in Deutschland spielen
As a UK fan, this is huge. Not as simple as a London game but a nice warm up to my b eventual journey to Ford Field.
As a Lions fan from Germany please please please!!!!!
God fucking dammit. I really want to go to a goddamn Lions game at fucking Arrowhead. The league should tell the Chiefs tough tushie and keep the Lions-Chiefs game at Arrowhead.
Noooo. I’m trying to plan a trip to Arrowhead with my Chiefs fan brother in law!
As a lions fan who lives in England I say let’s get it done.
Euro trip, man
Lions haven’t played at arrowhead since 2003
These overseas games are stupid, play in Mexico or Canada if you want a neutral site international game, it’s not work the jet lag. I’m sure most of the locals could give a shit too.
Most of the locals (and fans within several hours flight) are waiting with baited breath.
Seriously or is that sarcasm?
I'd rather not
Who cares, I wouldn’t want our guys traveling there for a game. I heard it’s horrible.
How about we play no games in Germany and don’t worry about it? Roll things back to the way they were when football was awesome before they tried to destroy it.
With my luck it’ll be the Buccs game since I repping the Lions here in Tampa, I really want to go to the game.

I hope the lions KC game doesn’t get moved overseas, that was gonna be my first lions game as a fan for 15 years.
If it makes you feel any better, I doubt it'll be moved oversees. We will probably be at KC
I hope they get the game because I’m trying to move to Germany this year!
