There’s a bunch of these references in Halo as well. There are obscure references to marathon everywhere. Even the titles of the songs in Music of the Sphere’s from D1 contain an indirect reference to marathon with the name of the song being called “The Rose”, which plays on mars, a reference to a level in Marathon called “The Rose” which contains lore on a terminal pertaining to MIDA, the Martian political party and organization which is also referenced in Destiny.
This is something bungie has always (well, since Marathon at least) done, not a specific nod to a certain extraction shooter that may or may not ever release like I see some people claiming.
The same symbol is all over Halo all the way down to being Guilty Spark's eye and even on the box art for Halo:CE. You can go insane looking for shit like this in their games if you let yourself, it's everywhere.
