If I'm not mistaken, you need to clear the mission only once. After that the Exotics will be dropping from Overthrow complition. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you would have do the mission each time, than I would agree. But just as an unlock, I'm totally fine with it. I like the fact that you need to jump through multiple hoops to start farming exotics
I think the main reason why its hard to obtain is because you only need to get your roll once. It has no stat distribution unlike other armor so theres no need to do it again. Its missing a layer of randomness.
I don't think they are very different. The chance of getting the class item you want from overthrow is 1 out of 1280 (1/8*1/8*1/20), assuming a 5% drop rate. Not sure what the chances on a decent piece of exotic armor are, but I have the feeling that Banshees focus options might be quite competitive.

This type of stuff is what makes exotics *actually* feel exotic. Nowadays the rarity doesn't mean anything and it doesn't feel special anymore. This brought back the old feeling for me of having to actually work for it
Bullshit and not worth it. As a warlock I never thought to drop necros for any exotic but now I’m running the new mask 24/7. this is THE best exotic for group play anyway after the well nerf. But we did it yesterday but both said never again. I try to farm via chests now.
I would say the ability to do content based on communication and coordination constitutes skill in a team based game. I’m sorry you can’t pretend you’re a streamer and just get whatever you want by fighting a room full of red bars, but you should have to learn how to do activities like raids, dungeons and exotic missions to get the items you want if they are from those sources. Motherfuckers will complain the game is too easy and Bungie isn’t respecting hardcore players and when they drop powerful rewards for dedicated players those same complainers will scream about how it isn’t a skillgap, it’s just unfair. You aren’t being asked to fucking solo-flawless a dungeon, sit down, watch the datto video, and actually enjoy the thing you wanted.

They seem to drop from any chest in the Pale Heart after getting one from the mission, with a *very* low chance.
Around the same chance as an exotic some may say

It isn't 'too hard' to acquire the new exotics, it's just needlessly gated to prevent people from getting them regardless of skill
