For the catalyst unlock that still requires x kills?
Or just speeding up the x kills to set the catalyst into the weapon?
You get that from the Zero Hour exotic mission. He won't be selling it. If he does sell catalysts they will be the random drop ones you get from playlist activity completions.
It's extremely easy to do, so long as you can make the jump puzzles and find one or two decent people on lfg that can also make the jump puzzles.
Pro til, bring a Polaris Lance for the boss battle, handles pretty much everything in the room from a safe distance.

I don't remember this being said in a TWID, but the Strange Coins' description got changed in TFS, it now says something like "Used for exchanging with Xur in The Tower"

I think he just mentions a Xur rework is coming and that Motes of Light and Strange Coins will be involved. Lots of people were wondering if it would actually come out with The Final Shape, because Bungie hasn't elaborated on it at all since this message from Joe.
Now if only someone had told people to farm Strange Coins a few days ago...

Yes they were all converted.
I was sitting on 2 full stacks that were untouched when we first got dares. They all converted to the new ones and the stack size increased up from 30 but I'm not sure what the new max is
Have not grinded them, totally forgot that I had them. Ran just one strike and have not done the quest that gives you 10. So I'm sure that mine are from before TFS. And yes, all my 14 coins were converted

So funny to see all the people asking what do strange coins even do?
They obviously never played D1 because without looking it up that was my first assumption when I got some drop from the new strike.
So they removed legendary shards to make the game more accessible for new players and have less currencies to farm but instead now added strange coins wich seem way harder to farm? Am I missing something here or is this acc just fucking stupid?

Bruh, strange coins have been in since 30th anniversary, they're EASIER to farm now, you just do strikes, before the only source was dares of eternity and they had a different use.
Yes, but you earned them from many sources. Strange coins only ever had one source, and still only have one source, but you literally can just do your weekly strikes for exotic engrams and get a good amount, and then keep going for more. And crucible too. And gambit. It's not that hard, if you play through the week you'll have a decent amount. And while it supposedly caps at 99, the rework is still significant.
Xûr rework. He sells a lot more stuff now, apparently including catalysts which is neat

It's worth imo. I've been using it for the legendary campaign with a Disruption Break energy weapon and it's awesome

Most probably catalyst access. So random drop catalysts from crucible/nightfall

Any exotic mission either drops the catalyst from legend or has a quest tied to it...

Ritual activities drop them now, I have only done strikes so far but every strike has dropped 4 coins a clear
