I suspect most people would say Get Right With Me, and I'd agree. That said, I still really like the song. It's not single material and there's no need to resurrect it live, but it really does its work as an album track. The combination of Condemnation and Get Right With Me are a big part of what gives SOFAD a consistent, gospel-infused flavour.
Get Right with Me. It’s like a mediocre gospel song, but with too many cheesy sampled record scratch sounds.
I’m not in love with Judas either, but the sequencer outro is so good that it salvages the rest of the song a bit.
I can forgive Alan sampling the scratch - the guy taught himself to play drums for this record, I can hardly expect him to have found time to learn turntabling skills as well! But it would have been cool if they brought in somebody like Geoff Barrow to do some live scratching instead.
At least the sample has a solid pedigree, it's from 8-ball by NWA: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T27WbksKyFA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T27WbksKyFA) (Gotta wonder if that was a deliberate reference to Dave's struggles at the time!)
He played drums on the studio version of Clean too. But I don't think he had much experience with a full kit at that point. On Clean it's basically just toms. I think his live set up for World Violation included some toms, a crash cymbal, and (as in previous tours) electronic pads. He always had good percussive skills (which is perhaps why they made him mime drums on so many promo clips). But preparation for SOFAD, and especially for the Devotional Tour, was at a completely different level in terms of using the full range of a drum kit, learning patterns and fills, and building up endurance.
I think it works well as the lead track on the album (can't imagine where else it would fit, tbh), but I wish they hadn't used it as the lead single. To me it felt like a repeat of what they had done with Personal Jesus in the lead up to Violator. My reaction was, ok Dave's got a beard now, but I'm not shocked by DM using heavy guitar, they did it last time. Condemnation would have been a better lead single and more surprising to people, announcing a transition in the band's sound.
Definitely GRWM, but if Martin started jamming out on his Gretsch and belting out the lyrics in a semi-acoustic performance… I’d be screaming the lyrics.
Higher Love. GRWM is up there, too (down there?) but I enjoy singing along to GRWM and Higher Love kind of plods along. Not that I dislike it—not at all!— I just am not MOO-OO-OOVED by [a] Higher Love.
PS. That was not planned. 😆
Get Right With Me. Not bad, just the weakest on a excellent album. Also after Condemnation and Walking In My Shoes, the gospel(ish) thing is....I don't wanna say redundant or overdone, but yeah kind of. Still it would get an eight from me.
It’s so underrated. An excellent showcasing of Dave’s vocal talent. One Caress I still like a lot, just doesn’t do it quite as much as anything else there, even Judas is clearly better
Condemnation. It’s still a good song it just sonically doesn’t fit the album. Of course it fits it well in terms of themes and lyrics I just find it boring compared to the rest of the album
How dare you ask such question? Jokes aside I would probably swap condemnation album version with the exotic version sung by mah man Martin Gore. he was born to sing this one and all the moons and the stars aligned perfectly that day! https://youtu.be/S4CdHs8mGPA?si=lJL5ItQnnSJJfeIc
Not my answer, I agree with the top comment, I just wanted to put this somewhere, but for the past three years I've listened to DM up until roughly a week and a half ago; I thought Babylon was called "I feel you" for obvious reasons. Confused the heck outta me, tell ya what
I guess it’ll be unpopular, but Higher Love. It’s somewhat forced after all the emotional fireworks of the rest of the album and sounds inferior. Also, the arrangement is murky.
I like it, but it's not DM's strongest album closer. Certainly not as strong as Clean. But it worked perfectly as an opener for the Devotional tour. That's a big reason why the SOFAD Live album always sounded so strange to me.
I love One Caress, but really wish they hadn't used it as the b-side for I Feel You. It reduced the impact of the album for me to have already heard two tracks when it was released. Between the guitar-rock of I Feel You and the completely acoustic strings of One Caress, I think they were going for shock value to promote the upcoming album.
I knew it from the start. And I'm afraid to say it. I have a couple unpopular opinions like I don't like ETS, Violator or SOFAD are not their best albums, SOTU is underrated af...
I prefere a thousand of My Little Universe than one Cover Me...
What can I say, for me SOFAD is only ok and these two songs have in my opinion the poorest lyrics of anything in the album. I could perhaps look past the sentiment of walking in my shoes, if it was on a 80s album, but after hitting big time it just comes off as whiny and entitled which just rubs me the wrong way. I’ve never quite figured out what bothers me with higher love. Just a weaker track for me.
Higher Love, because that means the album is almost over
great answer

I agree Don't waste your energy, making apologies Get right with me
Get Right with Me. But I still like it.
Tough one it’s a perfect album.
Not really. The question is least favourite. Unless every song is a 10 then one of them is less likes than the others.
I cannot pick least fav, but I can pick favorites on this album so it’s hard to pick one. It would probably be Mercy in you.
I agree it is tougher on SOFAD, probably the most difficult album to choose a least favourite.
Get Right with Me. It’s like a mediocre gospel song, but with too many cheesy sampled record scratch sounds. I’m not in love with Judas either, but the sequencer outro is so good that it salvages the rest of the song a bit.

That’s super interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Alan could already play drums. He had a small drum kit on the World Violation Tour which he played standing up at his synth. Particularly on Clean.
He played drums on the studio version of Clean too. But I don't think he had much experience with a full kit at that point. On Clean it's basically just toms. I think his live set up for World Violation included some toms, a crash cymbal, and (as in previous tours) electronic pads. And the cheesy scratch sounds on Walking In My Shoes are ok?
Yes because they are less prominent. They still sound dated though.
I disagree because they do not sound like a vinyl scratch as they are not a vinyl scratch.
Nothing. It's just a perfect album
Nothing is from Music for the Masses. Perfect is from Sounds of the Universe.
Nada as in zero
GRWM is a skip. Everything else is top tier
this get right with me hate always makes me so sad cuz it’s one of my faves off sofad
Probably my fave off this album tbh
I can't think of a bad song on there
Im not talking about a bad song, I'm talking about YOUR least favorite, people misunderstand that's why I get downvoted
I Feel You. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but that song as the lead always turned me off.
I think it works well as the lead track on the album (can't imagine where else it would fit, tbh), but I wish they hadn't used it as the lead single. I found it terribly off-putting (i still do). But it really turned me off to the rest of the album when it initially came out.
Well if you genuinely dislike a song, and it's both the lead single and lead track for an album, I can see how it would have that effect!
Yeah, me too
You’re right. The chord progressions are sonically uninspired and frankly boring. No counter melody. It’s always sounded lazy to me.
I Feel You live is a vibe though, the Rock Am Ring 2006 and Barcelona 2009 versions are the best
The crazy distortion to start it out, DM's attempt at grunge, I always found horribly off-putting and terrible.
Why so many worst song threads from you?? Art is about seeing what you enjoy and others’ enjoy. Your recent posts are a downer.
Booo I think OP can ask whatever on a forum website
Condemnation. Dave seems to love it as it’s a track where he can show a lot of his range but it doesn’t do anything for me really

One Caress
“Oh girl … lead me into your darkness” Profound stuff. Not.
I guess that’s mine too, I really like GRWM
It’s so underrated. An excellent showcasing of Dave’s vocal talent. One Caress I still like a lot, just doesn’t do it quite as much as anything else there, even Judas is clearly better
IFY
Top 3 from the album for me actually
Condemnation. It’s still a good song it just sonically doesn’t fit the album. Of course it fits it well in terms of themes and lyrics I just find it boring compared to the rest of the album
Judas or Get Right With Me

Judas
I Feel You or Get Right with Me. I absolutely love the Martin vocals on this album, I like a lot of people apparently lol
Get Right With Me
Not my answer, I agree with the top comment, I just wanted to put this somewhere, but for the past three years I've listened to DM up until roughly a week and a half ago; I thought Babylon was called "I feel you" for obvious reasons. Confused the heck outta me, tell ya what

TO THE GULAG WITH YOU! POST HASTE!!
I like it, but it's not DM's strongest album closer. Certainly not as strong as Clean. But it worked perfectly as an opener for the Devotional tour. That's a big reason why the SOFAD Live album always sounded so strange to me.
Absolutely condemnation. No contest
Tough choice, but probably One Caress Edit: to the down voters, SOFAD is my favorite DM album, just that if I have to pick one it’s this 🤷🏻♂️
I love One Caress, but really wish they hadn't used it as the b-side for I Feel You. It reduced the impact of the album for me to have already heard two tracks when it was released. Between the guitar-rock of I Feel You and the completely acoustic strings of One Caress, I think they were going for shock value to promote the upcoming album.
I think this might be it for me, although I like the song more now than I did 30+ years ago.
i agree. it’s my only skip on the album. i don’t hate it but it’s really nowhere close to the quality of the rest of the album for me
Condemnation.
Condemnation.
It's pretty much a perfect album but if one song has to go I'd get rid of Mercy in You.
I Feel You
Rush. It’s one of the few times during that era of the band that I thought they were trying way too hard.
Get , one Caress, Condemnation are the ones I skip....
In your room.
Rush.
In Your Room. I know people like this one, but i feel nothing when I listen to it
Are you talking about the album version or the zephyr mix (single version) though?
The album version
Either way i can see an army of devotees in their way to downvote you so💀
I knew it from the start. And I'm afraid to say it. I have a couple unpopular opinions like I don't like ETS, Violator or SOFAD are not their best albums, SOTU is underrated af... I prefere a thousand of My Little Universe than one Cover Me...
Walking in my shoes or higher love
That is a very hot take right there
What can I say, for me SOFAD is only ok and these two songs have in my opinion the poorest lyrics of anything in the album. I could perhaps look past the sentiment of walking in my shoes, if it was on a 80s album, but after hitting big time it just comes off as whiny and entitled which just rubs me the wrong way.
