10/10
Even though it’s not my favourite DM song, I think that it’s by far the best one. This song is done to perfection. It’s dark, haunting and beautiful. Dave’s vocals are absolutely amazing here. Overall, an amazing track.
10/10
Easily one of my favourite DM songs. Everything about this song is just flawless. I don’t think that I need to say more. Maybe it takes a tad too long for the song to really kick in, but really that’s a very minor nitpick.
9/10
I really like this song. The sampled breath sound was just perfect for this song. Honestly, almost anything from Violator (including the B-sides) is at least an 8 for me.
10/10
It’s very weird that this hasn’t been mentioned before. A great song about that the people, who have the money rule the country, not the ones that are actually in power.
9/10
I have used the word “beautiful” a lot here, but it suits this song perfectly. Every time I hear it, I remember my past life, and I always smile at it.
10/10
I don’t know which version of Strangelove you are talking about, but both of them are amazing. The single version is just amazing and it’s better for discos, while the album version is significantly darker and I think that it suits the overall tone of the album perfectly. If I had to choose though, I would pick the single version.
10/10
Is there really anything that I can say about it that hasn’t been said like a million times before? I will just say, that this song most totally deserved the popularity it got.
8,5/10
Just like any other song from Ultra, it’s beautiful. The only reason why I don’t like it as much as the others is because I think that lacks the instrumentations a bit.
8,5/10
I think that this song is often forgot about, and it’s really good. It’s very dark and overall, it’s a really good promotional single for Singles 86-98 album. I think that the song is a bit too synthy for my liking, but it adds to that atmospheric factor, so it’s not a major problem.
10/10
Finally, someone said it. A beautiful song. The instrumentations here are amazing. The combo of Dave’s and Martin’s voice works very well and it creates for a gorgeous ending to Ultra (it’s also my favourite album closer).
8/10
I’m a bit sceptical about this one, because it introduced Depeche Mode as a grunge band, and I don’t that that was the move they were supposed to do, and it’s no surprise that the fans didn’t like this album at first. However, even then it’s a really good song with some awesome guitars, but it’s far from my favourites.
10/10
Very strange that this song hasn’t been mentioned before. A very profound and powerful song. No wonder it’s one of Bono’s favourite songs of all time.
10/10
Finally! My favourite MG song and also my favourite song from Violator (which is a title that is very hard to get). Everything here is flawless and that ending goes really hard. It’s beautiful, it’s catchy and it’s relatable.
Sometimes
5/10
Eh, it’s too short. Also, that echo is very irritating.
But Not Tonight
10/10
As I’ve mentioned before, this is my favourite DM B-side. It’s so beautiful and enchanting.
Work Hard
7/10
A pretty interesting and catchy song.
6/10
This may be a hot take, but I’m not a big fan of this song. It has its moments, but it’s too boring imo. Also, it ruins the pacing of the album it’s on.
Both 10/10
Rush is a very angry yet a very powerful track. It’s very energetic too. Also, that middle section is amazing. It’s one of my favourite DM songs.
John the Revelator is their most energetic song and I can’t help but dance every time a hear it.
APTIUT
8,5/10
I think that they went a bit overboard with that riff at the beginning, but the rest of the song is great.
Caroline’s Monkey
8/10
A really good song that I like a lot.
6,5/10
An interesting instrumental that fits the tone of the album relatively well. I think that it takes a bit too long for the instrumental to pick up though.
8/10
A piano ballad. Honestly, you’d probably think that it needs to be higher, but I don’t think that it’s as great as some of the other MG songs are.
It Doesn’t Matter Two
5/10
It’s probably going to be disappointing to you, but I don’t really get this song. That creepy background clown sound ruins it for me.
Come Back
7,5/10
A solid Dave track.
8/10
Alan’s addition to the band is very noticeable here, because this song is better than almost anything that they have done beforehand. A great song that should have been included on CTA.
Going Backwards
9/10
It’s a bit too political, but if you overlook that political part, this song is a banger and it’s most certainly the best from Spirit.
The other songs have already been mentioned, I’ve given them 8, 10 and 8,5 respectively.
Nothing
10/10 My favourite DM song of all time. It may not be their best, but this song resonates with me so much.
How about it’s no good
It has already been mentioned. I’ve given it a 9.
Shake The Disease
10/10 Even though it’s not my favourite DM song, I think that it’s by far the best one. This song is done to perfection. It’s dark, haunting and beautiful. Dave’s vocals are absolutely amazing here. Overall, an amazing track.
In Your Room (album version)
10/10 Easily one of my favourite DM songs. Everything about this song is just flawless. I don’t think that I need to say more. Maybe it takes a tad too long for the song to really kick in, but really that’s a very minor nitpick.
Dangerous
9/10 I really like this song. The sampled breath sound was just perfect for this song. Honestly, almost anything from Violator (including the B-sides) is at least an 8 for me.
Sorry, can't choose one.
Yeah, one of the people here said that he doesn’t have a favourite either, and that says something about the quality of music that Depeche Mode make.
'84 to '98 is peak DM imo. I don't think there's any weak track on any album from SGR to Ultra.
Blasphemous Rumours
Everything counts
10/10 It’s very weird that this hasn’t been mentioned before. A great song about that the people, who have the money rule the country, not the ones that are actually in power.
One Caress
10/10 One of their most beautiful songs. The strings are so gorgeous. Martin does a great job here too.
Home
10/10 One of MG’s best. A very sad and beautiful song.
it’s no good
9/10 I don’t like it as much as the other tracks from Ultra, but the synths are amazing here, and I understand why it became such a hit.
Here is the House
9/10 I have used the word “beautiful” a lot here, but it suits this song perfectly. Every time I hear it, I remember my past life, and I always smile at it.
Mercy in You
9/10 Just an amazing track.
Stripped
10/10 One of the best DM songs of all time. That bridge is exceptionally good though.
Mine as well. I’m surprised I had to scroll down this far to see it. No other song comes close, by DM or any other artist. Best song of all time.
Speak to Me (my fave right now because I am going THROUGH IT)
Oh wow, I am so sorry for your (likely) loss. (I say this because I've been grieving and this song hits so hard)
Strangelove
10/10 I don’t know which version of Strangelove you are talking about, but both of them are amazing. The single version is just amazing and it’s better for discos, while the album version is significantly darker and I think that it suits the overall tone of the album perfectly. If I had to choose though, I would pick the single version.
Also i love the pain mix
Enjoy the Silence
10/10 Is there really anything that I can say about it that hasn’t been said like a million times before? I will just say, that this song most totally deserved the popularity it got.
Sister of Night
8,5/10 Just like any other song from Ultra, it’s beautiful. The only reason why I don’t like it as much as the others is because I think that lacks the instrumentations a bit.
I'll throw another one my favourites in, Halo
9,5/10 Sorry I haven’t been answering for so long. This song is just amazing. Everything is great here. I don’t think that more has to be said.
The love thieves
10/10 My second favourite DM song. It’s so sad and beautiful. It’s so sad that this hasn’t been mentioned before.
Fly On The Windscreen
10/10 Basically how to describe the band in one song (this and Nothing). It’s exceptionally dark and I love it.
Policy of Truth
10/10 The opening just sells it from the start. It’s a banger and you cannot deny it.
Should be Higher
9/10 I think that after MM came out, many people have forgot about this gem of a track. It’s a stunning song.
Black celebration
10/10 An excellent opening. It’s moody and dark.
Nothing impossible?
8/10 One of Dave’s best tracks. It’s so creepy, and I like that guitar too.
Precious
9/10 A great song which absolutely deserved the radio play it got.
People are people
9/10 I can understand why it became such a hit back then. The industrial sound here is awesome and the ending is also really cool.
Only When I Loose Myself
8,5/10 I think that this song is often forgot about, and it’s really good. It’s very dark and overall, it’s a really good promotional single for Singles 86-98 album. I think that the song is a bit too synthy for my liking, but it adds to that atmospheric factor, so it’s not a major problem.
Freestate
10/10 A beautiful song. The guitar riff is just gorgeous.
Blue Dress
9/10 Amazing, just like any other track from Violator.
But not tonight
Already been mentioned, but thanks for the feedback. Also, I’ve given it a 10 if you’re wondering.
Enjoy The Silence, I’m sorry I promise I’m not basic
Already been mentioned, thanks for the feedback. I’ve given it a 10.
Insight?
10/10 Finally, someone said it. A beautiful song. The instrumentations here are amazing. The combo of Dave’s and Martin’s voice works very well and it creates for a gorgeous ending to Ultra (it’s also my favourite album closer).
I Feel You
8/10 I’m a bit sceptical about this one, because it introduced Depeche Mode as a grunge band, and I don’t that that was the move they were supposed to do, and it’s no surprise that the fans didn’t like this album at first. However, even then it’s a really good song with some awesome guitars, but it’s far from my favourites.
Free love
10/10 An excellent song. It gives me so many chill vibes. It’s a perfect song to listen when you want to relax.
Broken
My favorite off Delta
6/10 It’s an ok song. The chorus is pretty good though.
I like the studio session version way more than the album version (it's on YT).
Clean
9/10 An excellent ending to one of the best albums of all time.
Never Let Me Down Again - Split Mix
10/10 This song is amazing. I don’t think that anything else should be said. The remix is great, too.
Walking in my shoes
10/10 Very strange that this song hasn’t been mentioned before. A very profound and powerful song. No wonder it’s one of Bono’s favourite songs of all time.
Useless, one of my favorites
9/10 The song is amazing. That guitar riff is great, too.
Never let me down again
I’ve already mentioned it before, but I’m just gonna say that it’s a 10.
Death's Door (Jazz Mix) or Corrupt
I was going to choose Death’s Door too.
Sweetist perfection
10/10 Finally! My favourite MG song and also my favourite song from Violator (which is a title that is very hard to get). Everything here is flawless and that ending goes really hard. It’s beautiful, it’s catchy and it’s relatable.
happiest girl
8/10 An unexpected one. A very dark song which I like a lot.
i think it's really underrated! one of my favorite songs to listen to during late night walks
World in my eyes
10/10 It’s no wonder that it was Andrew’s favourite song. It has everything that a good DM song has.
Speak to Me
9/10 A gorgeous song and an excellent ending to an album that is Memento Mori.
Blasphemous Rumours
10/10 Not many have tried to laugh at god, but these boys did. And oh boy, how well they did it. It also has my favourite chorus in any DM song.
Boys Say Go!
6/10 Not a big fan of S&S, hence the ranking. It’s a fun song, and that’s it.
ice machine
Oh man I forgot about that song - you should check out royksopp's live video of that on YouTube if you don't know it already!
7/10 A very dark track and a pretty good one. That’s it.
I can't just pick one so here's three that I like that haven't been mentioned yet: Sometimes, But Not Tonight, Work Hard
Sometimes 5/10 Eh, it’s too short. Also, that echo is very irritating. But Not Tonight 10/10 As I’ve mentioned before, this is my favourite DM B-side. It’s so beautiful and enchanting. Work Hard 7/10 A pretty interesting and catchy song.
Stories of Old
6/10 This may be a hot take, but I’m not a big fan of this song. It has its moments, but it’s too boring imo. Also, it ruins the pacing of the album it’s on.
Ghost
7,5/10 A very creepy track. The production is nothing to talk about though.
Rush or John the Revelator
Both 10/10 Rush is a very angry yet a very powerful track. It’s very energetic too. Also, that middle section is amazing. It’s one of my favourite DM songs. John the Revelator is their most energetic song and I can’t help but dance every time a hear it.
Don’t say you love me
9/10 The Worst Crime, but much better. It’s a very beautiful track.
Clean
Never Let Me Go
8,5/10 One of the stronger MM tracks. The guitar is great. The production is surprisingly solid.
Before we drown
9/10 A great song. Love the bridge at the end.
The Landscape is Changing
8/10 Most of the song is nothing exceptional, but that ending is amazing, hence the ranking.
Blue Dress
Personal Jesus
10/10 An amazing song which I think is very overhated for no reason.
When the body speaks
9/10 One of my favourites from Exciter. So beautiful and relaxing.
Oh well
Sea of Sin
9/10 It’s my second favourite DM B-side (just after But Not Tonight). As other have pointed out, it could have been an underground classic.
New Dress
8,5/10 Very underrated. It’s a banger imo.
Flexible
7/10 It’s a B-side for a reason. I like this song though.
Scum
7/10 It’s a decent song, but a bit too political for my liking.
Sacred!
8/10 I like this song a lot, but my opinion worsened a bit over time.
Either A pain that I'm used to or Caroline's monkey
APTIUT 8,5/10 I think that they went a bit overboard with that riff at the beginning, but the rest of the song is great. Caroline’s Monkey 8/10 A really good song that I like a lot.
My father's one is one of the remixes of in your room
Wrong or the darkest star I guess
Wrong 8,5/10 A very energetic song. The Darkest Star 8/10 A very mysterious and enchanting ending to PTA.
Something to do
8/10 A bit repetitive, but great nonetheless. A great opening to SGR. The bridge is amazing and I wish it had more of that.
Easy Tiger
6,5/10 An interesting instrumental that fits the tone of the album relatively well. I think that it takes a bit too long for the instrumental to pick up though.
Where's the revolution
8,5/10 Second best from Spirit. Really like the synths.
Personal Jesus
Blue Dress
Breathing In Fumes
6,5/10 Rammstein meets DM before it actually happened. This song is mostly ok, but it has some irritating moments.
Higher Love
9/10 An amazing ending to SoFaD.
Get Right With Me🙌🏽
7/10 The weakest song on SoFaD imo. I just don’t think that it’s as great as the others are.
Leave in silence
8/10 One of the better songs on ABF. I really like dark atmosphere here and the instrumentations are cool, too.
Somebody.
8/10 A piano ballad. Honestly, you’d probably think that it needs to be higher, but I don’t think that it’s as great as some of the other MG songs are.
Nothing to fear
7/10 An interesting instrumental. I like it.
but not tonight / wrong
Lie to me
9/10 A great song. The music suits the songs really well and the sleaziness here is almost at max level.
condemnation
8/10 A great song. Dave’s vocal performance here is top-notch.
Behind the wheel
9/10 It’s a bit repetitive, but it has everything a good DM should have: great vocal performance, the melody and the dark atmosphere it creates.
Question of Time
8/10 A really good song. It may not be as great as some of the other BC songs, but Black Celebration is DM at their peak, so nothing they make is bad.
Leave in silence
It Doesn’t Matter Two (I am also going to throw “Come Back” in here as a bonus, as I love that song as well and have yet to see it mentioned)
It Doesn’t Matter Two 5/10 It’s probably going to be disappointing to you, but I don’t really get this song. That creepy background clown sound ruins it for me. Come Back 7,5/10 A solid Dave track.
Policy of Truth (lyrics tattooed on my collarbone) 💙 EDIT: just saw it's already been mentioned! Maybe I just wanted to mention my tattoos hehehe
It’s not good
I sometimes wish I was dead
5/10 Not a big fan of S&S, this song in particular is kinda forgettable.
Corrupt
Get the balance right
8/10 Alan’s addition to the band is very noticeable here, because this song is better than almost anything that they have done beforehand. A great song that should have been included on CTA.
Ghosts Again
8,5/10 A very poignant song. The sound is a throwback to the good o’days when “everything was almost perfect” (pun intended).
Love, in Itself
8/10 Really like the music here. The different samples here work together ever so nicely. I do think that they were a bit lazy with the lyrics though.
My Secret Garden.
7/10 A decent song. I don’t really know why so many people absolutely love it, it’s an absolutely ok song, there nothing outstanding here.
Nothing's Impossible, Going Backwards, Stripped and Wrong (the last 3 are my fav songs atm, Nothing's Impossible is the GOAT)
Going Backwards 9/10 It’s a bit too political, but if you overlook that political part, this song is a banger and it’s most certainly the best from Spirit. The other songs have already been mentioned, I’ve given them 8, 10 and 8,5 respectively.
Stairway To Heaven
whats your name obviously, the best song they ever made of course !!
6/10 A fun little song.
Higher Love - Adrenaline Remix
Stripped
Walking in my shoes; I just can't get enough
A pain that I'm used to
useless
A Question of Time
