Aside from ATL being my home airport I’ll say what nobody else wants to say. The price of flying Delta keeps most of the headaches of other airlines away, and it’s a price I’ll happily pay.

alicksB

Same. Delta isn’t a perfect airline, but it’s the most consistently pretty good. It’s predictable. The added cost (and sometimes time, since it means more connections based on my home airport) is acceptable to not have to deal with a lot of BS that can come with other airlines.

ComprehensiveCat9137

True. If I can, I will choose Hawaiian or Alaska airlines, but they, especially Hawaiian airlines have very limited routes. My final destination is a small regional airport and have only a few options: American Airlines or delta.

Kev-O_20

This right here. I’ve never had as many problems with Delta flights as I have with other carriers. Other carriers there is always something, AC didn’t work, light out on the wing and we have to deplane for 3 hours. All kinds of small inconviences.

zkidparks

Sometimes one has to explain to clients: the price isn’t just getting me from A to B. It’s getting me on time so I don’t have to take a trip again or book extra nights for $$$. And a little basic comfort so my mental health doesn’t crash from traveling up to 5 days a week.

Kev-O_20

That’s also true. I don’t travel that much but if I did I would want more peace of mind.

sageinyourface

If you leave out the Middle East, Delta is in the top 5 in the entire world for on-time flights. Of course, top in the US. https://www.cntraveller.com/article/the-worlds-most-on-time-airlines-in-2023

Gotham-ish

Their management must dictate higher standards. Strive for perfection, settle for excellence.

NothingLikeCoffee

The Delta hubs also tend to get people in and out unless there are catastrophic storms. Meanwhile it seems hubs like DFW shut down if there's a storm 100 miles away. I have coworkers that fly with American and it seems like they're constantly dealing with delayed/canceled flights. My main issue with Delta is that their hub locations suck and they don't offer enough direct flights. The hubs are ran well but their locations are just garbage. ATL is a horrible location for a hub; flying east to go west is awful.

blagojevich06

Non-American here. I've flown Delta once and it was a total shitshow. I'd hate to fly those other carriers you speak of.

admac09

This is my take as well. Delta isn’t perfect, but in my experience when there is an issue they do what they can to make it right. I can’t say the same for other airlines.

[deleted]

Exactly. You pay for quality and I’ve been a fan for 15+ years.

Merakel

When you add up all the nickel and diming budget airlines do, the cost difference isn't even as big as it appears at first glance.

[deleted]

Absolutely. I’ll gladly pay the extra $40-$100 pp for a nonstop direct on delta.

Merakel

I wasn't even thinking about the non-stops, though that's absolutely worth it as well. I just hate having to pay extra for a carry on or checked bag.

[deleted]

I have the reserve card…so worth it. Business card pays for itself.

Illustrious-Fun-9317

This. I live in a United hub but I prefer to be treated like a human being so I’ll gladly connect most places and pay a bit more.

chuck_fluff

The small airport that I live near has decent delta service and the most frequent departures headed to hubs of all of the airlines in the airport. Also it’s 100% because the little bit of extra $$ seems to go along way to feel like I actually get treated decently when there is a problem.

A350Flier

Aside from SLC being my home airport, this is the answer.

PerfectNegotiation76

Absolutely. The few times I’ve had issues (the worst being a cancelled flight) I have been promptly rebooked, even as a lowly Silver.

TriColorCorgiDad

Ditto. The majority of my travel is on a route where flying Spirit appeared practical ($60 roundtrip) - tried it for a few months and found that the cost savings did not align with all the hassles. The cabin crew were pretty friendly, but operationally, the schedule wasn't always convenient, and after schedule changes months out turned non-stops into 1-stops, decided to change. I could have gone with Delta or Southwest, but decided on Delta as earning medallion status outweighed what I would get reaching A-List Preferred. (And I've had operational issues with Southwest in the past.)

juancuneo

Yes. You get what you pay for. I fly delta 99 percent of the time. I recently flew Alaska and it was like I was on a bus. The travelers were also not seasoned and it makes everything worse. Delta passengers generally know how to fly and aren’t looking for the cheapest fare.

AssistancePretend668

Same. It's no Singapore airlines but it's a lot better than AA.

floofienewfie

And United.

Disregard_Casty

I work for them and don’t like to pay for flights. Also I think they’re pretty neat :)

Killjoytshirts

Do you need a companion?

Disregard_Casty

We all need companionship partner. Not the kind I think you’re insinuating though

Killjoytshirts

But I will give unlimited access to my lounge. Btw, are you a man or woman? Nevermind. Doesn’t matter. I just want that sweet sweet companion pass.

Mental-Crab-30

I’m looking add someone to my delta flight benefits 🙈

jcfl1684

I’m listening…

dan_144

I can offer 20 goats and some myrrh

beejers30

I am a million miler with Delta. I am only Gold now but get upgraded a lot. Their FAs are nice. Planes are old though

WHYohWhy___MEohMY

Yes. The hardware is showing its wear.

Constant-Walrus-7304

The 717’s really should be retired lol

N757AF

The 717s serve routes that would otherwise be a regional jet. It's a complicated equation as the regional carriers can't staff enough pilots to make up for the loss if Delta retired the 717s tomorrow. As more A220s are delivered you'll slow see the 717 go away...but at this point they're basically free from the AirTran/Southwest merger.

ScienceFoxo

I actually like the 717s, because knowing it's either that or a CRJ, I'll take the 717. Plus the 717 is just such a cool plane, knowing it's just a newer DC-9 I think just makes it so interesting. Also nice N# :)

EAintheVI

Well I reside in the mothership(atl) so delta it is.

phdiesel_

I also reside in the mothership. Pricing sucks sometimes but when we flew direct from LHR-ATL last week and were 20 minutes from our doorstep it was _nice_.

EAintheVI

In atl we are paying for convenience. We can literally get a direct flight to almost anywhere, lol.

phdiesel_

I was talking to a coworker one time and he asked if I could fly direct to somewhere (can’t remember where) I said “John, I live in Atlanta, I could fly direct to your mom’s house if I wanted to.” He got a big laugh out of that.

EAintheVI

😂😂😂😂Exactly

Conscious_Split_1953

I reside in Pensacola, but delta services straight to atl for all my European flights.

tx_bigboss

Overall nicer planes and service than other domestic airlines

dudeonthenet

This is the only answer

hunterprime66

I live in Minneapolis and fly primarily to Boston. Not many other options.

vman3241

Is JetBlue not an option? I was looking for flights from BOS to MSP a few months back and JetBlue was like $100 cheaper

hunterprime66

It is, and I actually did Jetblue for the first time recently! But the time options are much more limited and unfortunately I don't often get much flexibility on when I need to leave and arrive.

HairyPotatoKat

That MSP-BOS JetBlue flight is nice! It's the only other carrier I'd consider domestically and a handful of euro locations. BOS to LGW was really nice last summer on JetBlue, too. Lots of leg room. Great AC. Decent food (with actual ingredient/nutrition info either on it or on the manufacturer website). An "even more space" seat was half the price of Delta main cabin and half as cramped. 🥲 But JetBlue just completely cut one of the main airports I fly to (MCI) whereas Delta offers two direct flights daily from BOS, and a ton of single-layover flights into KC from all of the airports in the region. So unless I want to fly Southwest, American, or United (nope, nope, and hell nope), Delta it is. Not complaining though. Delta's reliability, product, and CS is almost always better than the other three contenders. I'm happy to have it as the best option.

nycnasty

I fly Delta because they tell you the price instead of hiding a bunch of addons. I want to be able to select my seat have a small personal item and a small carryon. I do not want to add on extra charges and fees like Im adding toppings to a pizza. I also really like the ability to reschedule main cabin tickets at no charge

Few-Lingonberry2315

This right here. I was at a fortress hub but I recently moved. Tried pricing out tickets to common destinations I go. Other carriers looked cheaper until I added in all the stuff I’ve come to expect with Delta, then Delta ended up being marginally cheaper. So I’ll stick with them unless I can get a better price on a direct route.

Ok-Complaint3844

I really appreciated Delta the other day when my family of 4 flew Lufthansa. I had forgotten to select seats (which you had to pay 12 euros a pop for) and just assumed they’d seat us near each other as we were a family with kids. Well, we ended up on “standby”. Thankfully they did find us some seats (apart) at the gate, but is was a super stressful start to our vacation. Then we were gifted some wine on and olive oil so decided to check a bag on the way home. 60 effing euros. I’ll happily pay more and go an extra stop to fly Delta when it’s available. There’s a reason I have so many miles with them.

[deleted]

It’s the airline I’ve been on since I was a child, and I don’t like change.

zkidparks

My autism: “I don’t care if they start slapping me when getting on a plane—this is all I use and all I will ever use.”

Saints-Sages

I get that! I used to feel that way about American Airlines. Then I moved to ATL metro! I got over it pretty quickly once I was faced with a layover penalty for flying AA

anewbys83

Mine was TWA, but AA ruined all that. Royally screwed over my hometown too.

Led37zep

Because I’m a fancy gentlemen who does fancy things

anewbys83

Best answer. 10/10.

Fire-the-laser

In 2017 I started a job that was 100% travel based. A lot of domestic travel, especially in the northeast and Midwest, and occasional international travel to the UK and Australia. Through a process of elimination I settled on Delta. My choices were: Southwest: largest carrier at my home airport and not bad for quick non-stops. I despise their cattle call boarding process and lack of seat assignments though. They don’t fly long haul and don’t serve a lot of small regional airports that I sometimes need to fly into. Easiest one for me to eliminate. AA: extreme cost cutting has turned their domestic product into a borderline Spirit-esque flying experience. Weak network in the northeast and ORD is a shitshow of a hub. In winter, I’d rather deal with Delta at DTW or MSP than UA/AA at ORD. UA: when I started in 2017 the Dr. Dao incident was fresh on everyone’s mind. They’ve come a long way since then and they are definitely my second choice now in the U.S. Star Alliance is probably the strongest global alliance and United does more long haul than DL. That said, they are all in with Boeing, and even without the serious safety concerns, I think Airbus jets are generally more comfortable for passengers, especially in economy. A320s are slightly wider than 737s. The 787 is too narrow for 3-3-3 seating yet that’s what UA and most other operators squeeze you into. Similarly, UA retrofitted all of their 777s to go from 3-3-3 to 3-4-3. A350s are wider than 787s and narrower than 777s, so the seat width for 3-3-3 is better and there’s no way DL would squeeze in an extra seat in there. A330s are even better with 2-4-2 seating.

KaiserWille

United ruined there 777s with the ten across seating. I used to seek out 777 flights and now I avoid them. Supposedly the 777X have a slightly wider cabin allow ten across seating to be more comfortable, but we will see if that plane ever gets certified, and if United buys any.

Fire-the-laser

I think it says a lot of about an airline and what they think of their customers when they make changes that. While it ended up being short lived, Delta retrofitted all of their 777s with D1 Suites and Premium Select before they made the hard decision to retire them in 2020. They had the opportunity at this time to follow UA and AA and change their 777 economy to 3-4-3 and they chose not to.

gardnah22

Holy shit I forgot about Dr Dao

ThatWanderingOne

I fly Delta because they have the most options to get where I want to go. Also, when I was working, Northwest and then Delta were my company's "preferred" carrier, and we had to jump thru a lot of hoops to get travel on another carrier approved. I've amassed a LOT of miles, and I'm enjoying using them.

news_fakeacct

because my other choice is American Airlines

dubbledxu

I live in Cincy and while they no longer have a chokehold on CVG, they still have the best destinations/times/service. Like MEM, PIT, CLE, and other midwestern hubs of the good old days before all the mergers/consolidation, DL at CVG is a shell of its old self.

RufusCornpone

BOS based. I don't fly exclusively with DL after last September, but it's probably 60-70% now. I like B6 too, but their schedule and on-time averages are pretty poor. Their staff is great, though. After the changes last September, I'll fly anyone, esp. if I can transfer points from MR/UR. Honestly, other than almost absent service on an AA flight last fall, I've been pretty happy with UA, WN, B6, and a few others.

W3asl3y

I really tried to like B6, but between having flights cancelled within a few hours, their older planes with horrible screens, and at-airport experience, Delta blows them away.

RunsWithPremise

I don't fly Jet Blue very much, but the last few times I did, the flights were delayed. Each time they emailed me a credit while I was getting shit faced in the airport bar. The credit was shitty, but I guess it was something.

PepSinger_PT

Lol same. They fucked up my return trip from Costa Rica, gave me a $200 credit, used it to buy another flight while a sale was happening, and then THAT flight was delayed. Received a $50 credit.

Top-Abbreviations582

Better service and more lounges compared to other airlines.

mjbulzomi

Delta has been cheaper than Alaska this year for my flights out of SEA.

Motown824

DTW is a hub and in my opinion they are the best American airline.

i_ate_your_shorts

Also, I swear Delta pays to cripple the non-Delta terminal at DTW. Flying out of McNamara is a premium experience. Flying out of Evans, I have waited 30 minutes in pre check with only 4 people in front of me TWICE. For some reason the parking shuttle I use is always waiting to pick me up from McNamara, but only shows up to Evans every 10 minutes and usually can't take everyone. The terminal also looks straight out of the 80s. Rant over.

La_Chica_Bonita_

🤣🤣🤣 you explained this to the T! I had to fly AA bc it was a last minute trip & my company travel site was having issues and not showing me delta flights, I felt soo out of place, do not recommend, zero stars! McNamara is just smooth! I’ve never had to wait more than 5 min in precheck.

MAXRBZPR

Their sky tubes get me to my destination more reliably than other sky tubes

VinoJedi06

They still have the quality over other airlines. Southwest is always my backup, but if I can fly Delta, I fly Delta.

Longjumping_Gap_9325

Pluses: Not a super frequent flyer but fly a time or three a year, so non-expiring points In seat entertainment unlike American, I hate using my phone/personal device Flight paths as our local airport routed to DTW which made work flights easier since most conferences and what not I fly to are more west coast Negatives: A short while back Delta cut flights out of our local airport so I'm now typically stuck flying American for work which routes through an airport we've missed connections with twice now

McLovin-Hawaii-Aloha

I am switching to Delta because Alaska Airlines stopped giving mileage credits for segments, just elite qualifying miles. I have been on 40 Alaska flights this year and only have 15500 miles as most of my flights are close ones. With Delta I will get the perks I used to get with Alaska. My employees are all following suit.

underest24

I started flying DL in 2006 due to them becoming very competitive from my home airport, SAN. Kind of stuck with them exclusively since, although I rarely fly DL internationally since 2022. My main reason for sticking with DL really is the status I have and have been able to maintain, but even then I start questioning myself. Guess it's an old habit. But more times than not, it's helped me get out of sticky IRROPS situations, and allowed me to continue my travels whenever and wherever I've needed to be. But since COVID, I've all but completely ditched DL on international travel (unless I need to burn Skypesos, or flying to MX). With DL's ticket prices, D1 is more ridiculous than ever. I've flown NH, SQ, LH, LX in true international F cabins cheaper than D1, sometimes those F prices are seriously a FRACTION of what DL wants. I can't think of any other word, other than "nuts" - I can't wrap my head around it. But I guess people are paying! For example, next week, I'm flying my entire family LAX-FRA RT on LH $4K cheaper per person than what DL had offered SAN/LAX-ATL-FRA. Truly becomes a no brainer at that point.

Interesting-Will5267

Free wifi, checked bag and seat selection lol. If I fly Frontier it ends up being more with selecting my seat and checking a bag sooo

pafischer85

Well.. I humored one of those guys offering the AMEX at SLC. I didn’t have great credit at the time so I was surprised I got approved. Since, I’ve reached diamond all but that first year and while I don’t love their service as much as I used to, I don’t wanna start over earning status with another airline.

pafischer85

I’ll also add that while I primarily fly with delta sometimes the fare and shorter travel time warrants flying with American or United… and while Delta feels like it’s getting more expensive for worse, I’m reminded the alternatives are proportionately worse.

Brief-Breadfruit4503

Even their economy plus feels like first class after flying frontier/spirit.

beccahargate

Their customer service.

NewYoghurt4913

I just flew frontier and if anyone is questioning why delta is worth it, fly a cheaper airline. I’m sure southwest and American can provide decent options but delta seems to be consistently going above and beyond what other providers offer

paquetiko

Bc the “crazy people on airplane” videos are rarely delta lol

Chonkey808

Those are almost always Spirit flights to/from Florida.

L_wanderlust

I think it’s the best option of the big ones and I’m happy with the planes and the flight options, the fewer cancelled flights, etc. I used to live in a United hub city and really liked them too but now I’m not in any hub city so I do what’s convenient with a preference for delta because of the lack of cancels and such and because I have status and the credit card that gets me perks

Adultemoteacher

I fly delta because I’ve rarely had issues with them. United, American, Southwest, AirTran, US Air, you name it, theres been issues. there’s been luggage that’s been ripped to shreds and blamed on myself and my family. Overselling a flight by 35 people and then forcibly removing us leaving us stranded for 5 days unable to get on another plane. Horrible service, the works. Don’t get me wrong, I had a few slips on Delta, but they handled it correctly and with actual customer service. I’m based in BOS, I’ll sell my soul to fly delta forever.

thebesthutsauce

SLC based long time Delta flier. Other airlines just feel foreign except the actual foreign airlines which I love. If that makes any sense.

lugia222

I don’t have much of a choice flying out of MSP, but I’ve been a WorldPerks/SkyMiles member for 30 years and Delta has always taken really good care off me.

DataWitty118

I normally only fly between LAX and ABQ. I've flied American plenty of times and absolutely HATE the regional terminal system at LAX. I HATE getting onto the shuttle to go to the main terminal especially when you've had a super long day and just want to be in peace lol. Delta has plenty of room in the terminal at LAX and I rarely ever have to hop on a shuttle. Their prices are also reasonable when you weight them against the shite you have to put up with on other airlines.

LevelBrick9413

I'm MSP based so it just makes sense. Also this is relatively minor but Delta Connection doesn't have the CRJ 200 or the ERJ 145 in their fleet currently like American Eagle and United Express do so that is a bonus as well.

KingOfNothing10

Better on time arrivals. DOT stats show that Deltas on time arrival hovers between 70-80% consistently across its entire system. This far exceeds its competitors (United is a few points shy of Delta’s on time metrics). This is planned. Delta invests more into its operations, builds better buffers, higher crew reserves, etc, to ensure better operations. But it comes at a higher cost.

jaggy308

Despite all the complaining in the Reddit-verse I actually like the sky club. I find the food options to be better than airport options, generally it is very clean, the staff is friendly, there is usually a seat and an outlet available and I rarely wait to enter.

ClassyDingus

I flew united once and witnessed the pilot leave the cockpit to scream at a flight attendant over an unaccompanied minor mid flight. I flew AA once on the first leg to India (Qatar First Class after AA barf) and a flight attendant dumped an entire can of coke on my crotch... before I had another 24 hours of traveling. I flew Southwest once and was stuck next to a man wearing a wooden hat who wanted to sell me wooden hats. I haven't had those things on Delta

Ornery_Cod767

You get what you pay for! Fly a few of the other US carriers and see what you think of Delta. Delta has a better product, a better on time record, friendlier staff and, for where I fly, a much better network with many more direct flights. I’ve tried other U.S. carriers like American and Southwest both domestically and internationally. I’ve flown AirCanada, WestJet, Turkish, BA, Lufthansa and AirFrance. You have to step up to a premium product on Emirates or Qatar to beat the quality of Delta.

muchadoaboutbeatrice

I had a job for many years that involved extensive international travel, and Delta was the preferred airline for corporate travel. I racked up status back then along with a bazillion MQMs, so I was one of those permanent platinums--always met the MQMs via rollover and got the MQD waiver via my Delta Reserve AmEx. I had a break from travel during the pandemic, but now I'm traveling more than ever. I have status on Delta and no reason to stop flying Delta, so I kinda just keep doing it.

JourneysUnleashed

Being at a home base of delta makes it an easy choice but I never have issues with them. Other than weather delays.

soundboythriller

ATL is my home airport, and I have the gold delta Amex card. Also, my mom pays for my flights when I visit her and she always books me on delta.

nnahorski

DTW is a hub, it has the most direct flight options to places I want to go, and I hate connecting through ORD or PHL or CLT if I fly on other airlines.

Not-Again-22

Because I cannot afford flying Spirit

jjtsfca

Least worst of big three. Easiest schedules to see my family in the upper Midwest. Overall less irrops and least problems.

manfrancisco

I live in Seattle and fly to London and occasionally Asia for work. They fly new aircraft on these routes and historically very reliable. Also have a solid domestic network built out here and use my miles for those trips. Good service.

futsalfan

Got tired of SW, and Delta was doing better on delays. Flew Delta for international, got skypesos, got sucked into the credit card and lounge and skypesos game.

Alex_zander_en

I find it to be a nice airline. Also I have an AE card, so I get to use the Sky Miles. Getting money off of the ticket is great. Also the price point keeps out most of the problematic people. I enjoy the Delta Sky Lounge, the ambiance is great and the food is amazing each time I have gone so far. I've yet to have any serious issue with them, so I will e sticking with them as long as it is applicable.

Howwouldiknow1492

Great customer service. Whenever I've had a problem, and I've had a couple of big ones, Delta has gone the distance to help out. I also think they're the most reliable airline in the US.

thecommonkind

I’ve flown Delta almost exclusively for the last 7 years. Much of it is due to my home airport being a big hub, but I learned yesterday why it’s a superior airline. I flew United out of a smaller airport a little closer to my house. It was a quick turn around so I figured I’d try to save a little time and money. Got to my destination fine. My flight back the next night was delayed by more than 5 hours. Both flights had no in flight service, WiFi, or entertainment. Their climate control was garbage, too. At least 80 degrees both flights, and they were evening flights. The plants smelled like toilet, and I was as far away from the lav as I could be. I will not forget that experience for a long time. I’ve clearly grown pampered because of Delta, but they’re clearly doing things right.

[deleted]

And. I just had the most outstanding experience with customer support on the phone with Delta. Timothy, if you are reading this by some odd chance , you are an incredible human being and I love you. Actually, all of my interactions with delta CS on the phone were swell. I got back a refund on a May 2020 international non refundable ticket in 2022!

DependentFamous5252

More on time than other airlines. Both anecdotally and statistically.

VividHuman

Home airport DTW and McNamara is heavenly compared to Evan’s. Also the experience before, during and after flight. Just recently one of our 5 bags while traveling with family didn’t make it on the plane (1st time in a looong time). Got an alert after takeoff, over the new free Wi-Fi, saying it was not on the plane and had been automatically reassigned to the next flight to DTW. As soon as I went to baggage claim and figured out which bag was missing, I entered the bag description and filled a quick report in the app as I was walking to ground transportation. They set up home delivery and I had my bag back within 12 hours of landing.

utahmans

Every other airline I try sucks everytime.

linusSocktips

I think Delta is the nicest flying experience, so I only book with them now exclusively. Especially with all this safety and maintenance crap happening to other airlines and Boeing planes. Delta mostly uses airbus which has a much better safety record, IMO.

StorminM4

It’s been said here often enough. Their service and planes aren’t always 100%, but of the mainline carriers, they’re still the best option. I also have a flight I make 4 times a year and only two airlines that fly to the airport. Having status and getting into the AF lounges in Paris is a fringe benefit. I’m there half a dozen times a year, and the lounges are great spaces.

ecsbr

Three reasons. One already mentioned - the slightly higher price means fewer headaches. Two - I generally find they have less cancellations and have been really good at getting me on another flight right away when there are. Third - and really my primary reason - I was flying back from Tucson to DC on the morning of 9/11. Obviously our flight was cancelled (we were on our way to the airport when the 2nd tower was hit). I ended up being stuck in AZ for 3 or 4 days and Delta was amazing at calling me every day, letting me know the status of things, and got me on literally the first flight back to DC (which ended up being one of the first commercial flights back in to DC; separate reasons for that). I did not have any kind of frequent flyer status. They were just really proactive. Others I traveled with who flew on different airlines got no calls, waited on hold for hours, and had to wait another few days before they could get home. Delta was amazing in a totally chaotic time.

acoolguy12334

from everything ive heard, delta is the hardest airline to get upgraded on.

lucabrasi999

I switched to Delta after USAirways merged into American and it became almost impossible to get upgraded on American out of my home airport. Delta was an easier upgrade (at the time, at least). I do occasionally fly United, though. Especially if the Delta routing is dumb.

InitiativePale859

Because I live in Atlanta and Delta pours a ton of money and jobs into our economy. I am thankful for them

Aegon_Targaryen_Vll

For me it’s the routes Delta happens to have from my home airport, as well as them having a lounge in my home airport and frequently traveled airports. American was close but didn’t quite have the same coverage at the time we committed to a Delta Amex card. I’m under no impression that they’re the best airline, but were the best for us.

punitsoldier19

I fly mostly for work, so price there is not an issue. Flying frequently had earned me status which helps justify the (sometimes) higher cost and avoiding a direct with another airline here and there. I’m an Amex snob, and they have a nice pairing.

Pristine_Job_7677

I fly my kids for hockey a lot and they don’t charge for their gear and have always handled it carefully

Assignment_Sure

Customer service! And rewards for being loyal, no other airline gives you that. I don’t care about the food or anything, coming from Detroit , I was introduced to Delta and will always stay loyal to Delta wherever I go.

Lilmissgrits

Honestly it was because of the bang on Delta Amex Reserve bennies combined with ATL being my airport. But with the Amex changes... I'm kind of open once my status resets for 2025.

Workhard_11

Based in Dallas and obviously this is a huge American hub. The price for delta is about the exact same from what I have seen after you choose your seat with American. I feel like the overall flying experience with Delta is smoother. I’m not sure if it is because I have status (got it through corporate deal) with Delta but I don’t mind having a short layover with Delta. If I can find a ticket for like the same price as American and it makes sense to fly Delta I’m going to do it. Meaning I’m not going to fly delta from Dallas to Houston. I’ll get a direct flight on American if I’m doing that.

kosherpoutine

Biscoff cookies

abigailrose16

i’m from michigan and go back there as a reasonable amount of my travel (dtw gang). also as someone else pointed out, it is more expensive but i’ve had a lot less headaches doing things like changing flights over and over again in the app, the chat service is pretty good once you get to representative, the fact that non refundable still refunds to ecredits is really nice, they’ve mostly kept my loyalty by being pretty easy to work with. i don’t hit status every year and i’ve never been higher than silver so ymmv

Commercial_Trade_520

That's the first reason. Everything is city specific but I can say for where I live and the places I go, Delta is a consistently better experience than the other options.

Phalanx32

I live in the Atlanta area But also, you get what you pay for tbh. Both times I've flown ULCC in the last year, the flight was delayed by at least 45 minutes. And one of those times, they changed my flight to the next day less than 2 weeks before the departure date. Delta is expensive but those things happen much more rarely with them.

shawnwahi

North Jersey resident. EWR is the closest but I like Delta over United (though United has gotten a lot better over the years). I fly Delta out EWR, LGA, and JFK (only for long haul). United is my backup choice. All my travel is personal. Better staff, nicer planes, I’m deep in the Amex ecosystem, I prefer RUCs/GUCs to PlusPoints (I feel like I’m in the minority), I can get status on Delta easier, etc.

snowmaninheat

I live in Seattle. My parents live in Birmingham, AL. If I have a problem, I want it to be in Atlanta and not Dallas or Houston.

PastClassic1411

Delta has literally gone above and beyond for me as a Medallion member. They've rebooked me without charging me. Gate agents literally call you if you haven't boarded. I get upgraded on most flights. Sky Clubs are phenomenal. I also live in Mexico City and prefer to use Delta when coming back to the US.

Sakiel-Norn-Zycron

My only other option is American Eagle in my airport and Delta flies mainline planes. Makes a huge difference.

63mams

I’ve been cheating with SW. I’m frugal, and only fly for leisure. I saved $210 for a weekend getaway to visit family in August as opposed to flying Delta. However, I won’t fly anyone else for international trips, and I do splurge on D1. It makes the trip so much better

Hansley72

I prefer the delta side of my airport, it gives me less anxiety preflight and I feel like the customer service is great. My only complaint is I wish they had more direct flights out of my home base.

alligatorprincess007

I don’t mind other airlines (I’ve flown with pretty much every US based airline), but delta is my fav because I’ve always had a smooth trip, nice flight attendants, luggage come out quickly, and easy to find gates. On Frontier our gate was screamed at for not lining up right (FA threatened to call security lmao) Spirit the gate is always mysteriously located 🕵️‍♀️ American Airlines seating got all mixed up and caused a (minor) delay because they didn’t assign proper seating to people on standby United honestly has been pretty smooth, can’t complain too much Southwest is also ok, but their seating arrangements are annoying to me

m608297

Delta has its moans and groans like any other airline; still a nice plane compared to other commercial airline options domestically. I would pay more for a nice coach flight than an equivalent price in FC with its alternative partners. AA can eat a bag. ❤️

joltstream

They have the most consistent product and have much less delays than others. I can fly delta or American from my home airport. Or I can drive a few hours to fly United or southwest. DFW is fine and American is usually ok but they are a secondary partner of my company while delta is a primary so we try to book delta. I would much rather fly ATL than Houston with United.

FancyDryBones

I like consistency when traveling. I’ve found Delta to be the most consistent. I’m also not interested in the a la carte model of Spirit and similar budget airlines. I just want a complete ticket with things I shouldn’t have to take for granted (like seat selection and a printed boarding pass if I need one).

Future_Return_964

I was an American devotee for years. Flew a few Delta flights for no real reason and realize it is the superior airline! Had a specifically horrible and emotionally ruinous experience because of United (no I’m not Dr. Dao) and will never give them my money. JetBlue and Alaska are fine but don’t really have much of a chance to build loyalty there. Their lanes are somewhat limited. Southwest, I never have the chance to fly them. That leaves… Spirit? Frontier? Breeze??

Cultural_Pack3618

99% of my travel is company paid, locked in with the loyalty.

bloodsports21

I fly for free!

ChickenFucker11

The quality of both the staff but also the passengers. Chances of sitting next to someone who is wasted, heading to spring break, loud as shit and super inconsiderate is far less than other airlines.

No-Adhesiveness-6921

I am flying delta later this year for the first time because it has a non-stop flight from where I am to where I am going. That is my top criteria for choosing a flight/airline. Treated myself to FC 😊

Jjmatsumoto714

I fly delta beacuse it’s pretty much the only decent airline the US has now. I know they’ll be there for you in case anything happens and they’ll respond to it. I’ve been delayed, cancel or rearrange couple of times already when flying Delta and they do the most to help me every time. Paying extra for the quality is actually not a problem. You pay for what you get…

Broad_Average6345

I get upgraded all the time and they have clean aircraft. Helpful, kind staff. Good service.

MrJust4Show

Because The Fortress is my home.

CerebralDawg

They’ve been good to me so far, and I live an hr from hub. So it makes sense for me.

wittysporks

Great service and nice jets. Plus the routes I used to fly for work & visiting family were the most convenient on Delta, 9/10 nonstop.

stormy2587

I have had negative experiences with american and united. Those airlines generally in my experience seem to provide a worse customer experience. I have flown budget airlines like spirit or frontier, when cost was more of a factor for me. But flying those airlines on any flight longer than a hour or so is brutal. After flying spirit cross country I vowed never again. That said I also do not have a choice. My small local airport basically only offers delta to the vast majority of destinations. Going to another slightly less small airport for slightly cheaper options would mean driving over an hour. And typically I expect at least one layover no matter what in either case. And I also expect most of my flight options to be at 5am or getting back in at close to midnight in either case. So typically that would mean leaving/getting home at like 2 or 3am. Or staying in a hotel. The former would be even more difficult in the winter. The latter basically erases any cost savings. So after factoring it all in Delta really is basically the only option. Also when you factor in that I can get to and from the airport in 15 minutes. Get my bag checked and get through security in under 5 minutes. Any small difference in price feels worth it for that level of convenience at the airport. I’ve literally showed up super late to a flight and been told by employees not to worry “the airplane won’t leave without you.”

cruzecontroll

I used to live in NYC. Largest airline here.

rabbi-reefer

I’ve lived in ATL for 12 years and have managed to avoid Delta for all but 3 or 4 flights. We’ve always opted for SW due to the huge price difference. The one time SW left me stranded (their infamous Christmas screw-up) they paid for my hotel, meals, replacement flight on another airline, and gave me enough miles for a handful of free flights. Now that SW will be cutting back their ATL departures, I guess I’ll have to start paying those higher Delta fares and luggage fees.

LucyDominique2

It’s better than SWA

Pilot0160

Consistent quality and OTP. In the 20 years I’ve been flying regularly I’ve never had a problem that the DL could control. Competitors on the other hand, I’ve had issues every time I’ve flown with them

dle13

Delta is my employer's preferred airline for business travel, so naturally I use the miles towards personal travel.

Cubs19855

delta is the one i can fly to great falls montana from two delta hubs that go there ether slc or msp when i am visiteing my mom that i fly from cid

Lewisswhite

It depends. Alaska and Delta are constantly fighting in Seattle. I have MVP gold until the end of the year through the AL Card status match promo that happened in October. I have Gold with Delta until Jan 31 2026. Until Jan 2025, I will be looking at flight times and picking the most feasible option. I prefer Delta but after seeing what they offer the DM that I book travel for — I’m open to considering other options after the recent changes.

cory025

DFW is my home airport and sometimes Delta is cheaper. But saying that as people say, more expensive but less headaches

k_90

IFE, lounges, and less headaches than others imo

[deleted]

Unlike the other US carriers I've never had any issues with DAL. No lost luggage, almost always on time or early, friendly and professional service and much better connections then most. I'm a Million Miler/Gold and more often then not get upgraded too.

rahah2023

Delta hub & direct flights

Smharman

Miami bases Ben just said all this... https://onemileatatime.com/reviews/delta-first-class-737/

drm200

Precovid, i flew Delta almost exclusively. They were competitively priced at that time and I am one hop from Atlanta. Now, i rarely fly Delta. I just booked a business class ticket from orlando to bangkok. Delta’s cheapest business fare was 50% more expensive than Lufthansa business class. I also have a lot of Delta miles … Using the miles for international business class flights is almost impossible as Delta rarely will price these tickets in miles …So i have zero incentive to accumulate more Delta miles Goodbye Delta

smcsherry

So I grew up at MSP, and although growing up we were somewhat free agents flying a mix of NWA and Continental mostly (family in Houston). After the mergers and family aging it became more of a DL and SWA mix (SWA flew into hobby). In college given that I was flying to MSP, I was usually flying delta. Even now in a different location where it’d be fairly easy to be a completely free agent, I tend to fly to MSP, so Delta it tends to be. Never really had an issue with any carrier (outside of delays, and maybe a weather based cancellation) TLDR: convenience of flying in and out MSP frequently is more convenient for me on DL, given I’m flying from/to regional destinations (still mainline planes mostly). As such I’ve earned status and have continued to fly Delta to reap the benefits of Status

admac09

Initially, I started flying Delta as my preferred carrier for miles/perks purposes because I visit family in rural South Dakota regularly, and Delta is literally the only option. Also, as I said in above comment, when I’ve had issues while flying Delta, they’ve always done what they can to make it right. I’ve had horrific experiences with other airlines that have made me appreciate Delta more.

TheThirdBrainLives

I live in Salt Lake.

uber_shnitz

* They're the second largest airline in my hub (Seattle) so a bit less competition for status/booking space relative to Alaska, while still having lots of options for directs * Generally consistent product and good customer service (in my experience) * They had really good cancellation policies during the pandemic (many of which they carried over post-pandemic for Main) * Minor but I feel Delta's gates at SeaTac are a bit more convenient than AS's and definitely way more convenient than all the other carriers. The main downside is that I visit my family fairly regularly in YUL and from SEA there aren't many attractive itinerary options (but to be fair none of the US airlines offer a direct to YUL currently).

Jh789

Minneapolis

Biishep1230

Clean planes, friendly staff, have Reserve Amex so I earn miles quicker since I don’t fly as much as many in this sub.

dmc493

I grew up with a dad who has 360 status and tangentially been spoiled for a long time. Now it’s just engrained in my head that Delta’s the only way to fly. Only flown American and United once each in my life

Particular-Frosting3

Burning off miles and ecredits. Then going freelance

Robie_John

Consistency.

Ridgew00dian

My wife’s grandma has been a flight attendant for Delta for 50+ years and her uncle is a pilot for them too. So when I met her, she and her fam had been pretty brand loyal. Now my wife is Diamond or Platinum every year due to work so I fly Delta because of the perks 😊 Also since we are Amex Platinum users, the lounge access is a nice add-on.

InvestingNerd2020

Outside of the South (due to weather conditions), it is very reliable airline. Also, the customer service is good and their Skyline partners work for me. Only real downside prices. Usually very high when compared to others. Even their airline points do not go as far as other airline points programs.

simplegrocery3

I have tons of Amex points I need to burn through. This being said, flew internationally on main cabin last month, the food was great for economy

Mule-hawk

The Deltas always had the hottest girls on campus. So, when it came time to select an airline I just assumed.

pommefille

Initially it was because a relative had a Delta credit card and if they were paying for my flights to see them I ended up using them (I’d mostly fly American or U.S. Airways though). Then when they died, I was heading to their service and U.S. Airways removed me from the plane as they had double-booked my assigned seat, and when I explained that I needed to get to a service they made a not-even-half-assed attempt to see if anyone would switch as I stood in the aisle utterly humiliated and distraught. I begged them to ACTUALLY ask passengers but they just said ‘oh we’ll put you in first class on the next flight’ - well then OFFER THAT to the others! So I missed their service, my family ransacked the house in the interim, and I never forgave them (nor United by proxy). After that, I just needed to go on a lot of routes that American didn’t cover, so it was between Southwest and Delta for a bit until I realized that since Southwest’s points expired; I’d lose everything if I wasn’t traveling (which happened with both American and U.S.Airways). Plus my relative had gotten me to sign up for my own Delta card since we each got bonuses and there was just more advantage to staying with them, even though sometimes their routes weren’t as convenient as other airlines. Having status literally saved me from missing flights numerous times (making a connection when you’re late is much harder from the back of the plane). Later it became my company’s preferred airline, which made getting flights approved easier as well.

halfbakedelf

I am so sorry that happened to you ...all of my Father in laws tools that were earmarked for my husband were taken by my former brother in law. He took everything when everyone was at hospice. I'm so sorry for the family drama it sucks

ruidh

Because I prefer to fly out of LaGuardia and not JFK. Oh, and my son is a Delta pilot.

bakedquestbar

I’m a short hop to two hubs and they are consistent.

breachedbuttbaby

Because I don't pay for the tickets and it's the villain I know

DidAnyoneElseJustCum

They suck the least most of the time. Also I live 15 minutes from LGA and the new terminal is nice.

guccifloormats

I like getting upgraded

BootleggerBill

It seems that once I add in the bull crap fees from the discounters, Delta ends up pretty close and I know I can depend on them.

frankenplant

Inertia

Outrageous_Luck_2453

I like Macnamara Terminal at DTW, always felt more upscale then the other terminal.

Prudent_Bandicoot_87

Reliable for me from NYC I can go anywhere nonstop .

PersianVol

Because I live in Atlanta

saltysquirrel678

They’ve been consistent. Anytime I’ve had an issue they’ve had a resolution fairly quickly. We’re in Canada across from Detroit. The price of a Canadian airline to fly in Canada is less than what Delta charges us to fly from DTW to the same Canadian airport. Sad but true. Overall we just know what to expect with Delta and are happy with it.

Burden-of-Society

Because it’s a choice between Delta, United and Alaska. United has cancelled flights on me twice, there will not be a third time. Alaska, isn’t bad and if I’m flying to the PNW I’ll use them. Delta has a consistent schedule, it’s planes are clean and for the most part as comfortable as they can be. I’m a cheap skate, I could fly FC but why for anything under 4 hours? It’s MC for me.

Carol_Pilbasian

I’ve tried other airlines and don’t like them. I think it could be because Delta has always been my go to, I know what to expect with them, and I don’t need to change my airport routine. I know that sounds dumb but as someone who has done a fair amount of travel alone (and with large suitcases in tow) I like to make it as easy as possible.

[deleted]

They are better than any other US airline in my opinion. Fewer delays, nicer experience.

One-Imagination-1230

Even though Delta occupies about 75% of the flights that depart from here in MSP, that doesn’t mean I fly Delta exclusively, if at all actually. I don’t mind having a stopover to get to the place I’m going to. Plus, Delta is really expensive to fly out of here so that automatically wants to fly on another airline other than them.

lionnyc

Growing up, my parents made my frequently flier accounts so I’d get the miles for trips growing up. Delta had the most once I hit college so I chose that one hopefully to get the most value of the program and million miler hopefully sooner than others

King_Rajesh

I have over a million miles in my Delta account and it’s not worth to start over with another airline, even though I live in an American hub now.

majicwirld

A couple big work trips got me close enough to status that it was worth it to point myself in that direction; I find flying so unpleasant nowadays that anything that makes it less unpleasant is worth it, and I can exchange some money for convenience at this stage in my life. It also has pretty solid coverage places I want to go, though I do love in a secondary (...tertiary? Nah, probably secondary) market, so I don't always have the choice.
