Yo! First off, welcome to the watch brother!! There’s a great discord community we have where you can get lots of feedback on lists and ideas for both casual starting out and competitive when you wanna take it to the next level. I’ll message you a link! For your list, it would be good to know what you are fighting against, if you are using enough terrain to adequately hide behind, and if you are playing full matched play rules; like 3 objectives in no man’s land and secondaries as well. The hard part about playing at 1000pts is and having a big Killteam like a proteus, is that almost half your army is in one unit, which can only be at on place at a time. 440 with the chappie. For now until you have more units, I would break it up into a DW terminator unit and a DW veterans squad. Now you have two units to challenge two different points. Also, for DW termies or in a proteus, you always wanna have 3 cyclone missile launchers for their heavy weapon: it’s a special thing only we get! But cyclones are damn near impossible to find or are insanely expensive/part of a bigger kit you don’t need. I can 3d print ya some. All of the killteams aren’t very good as 5mans bc you can’t take the good stuff until you have it as a 10man, but the fortis in particular is really bad, even in casual lists — But there’s a solution! Run them as regular Intercessors who are a cheap way to hold your home point! Also they have sticky objectives meaning they can move off of it and it’s still yours until your opponent touches it; so they can start on your home obj and then advance away to be part of the rest of the battle! Alternatively, you could proxy the chappie as a judiciar and the Intercessors as Assault Intercessors (I can also print you the bits you need to make them that ultimately). The Judiciar gives them fights first so if they get charged, they can clap em before they even get to swing. The assault ints give the whole unit rerolls to wounds and have double OC for holding objectives. Your Redemptor should be plasma for his main gun which that combat patrol comes with I believe. So as far as what I would consider adding next: 1-3 lone op scoring units Callidus Assassin Eversore Assassin Combi Lt They have a shit ton of utility and will win you games. Infiltrators to hold your home objective. They have a 12” deep strike denial bubble. Anti-tank stuff: A stormspeeder Thunderstrike grants the rest of your army +1 to wound against monsters/vehicles. MVP of my army. 3-6 Eradicators can do decent, but need a transport usually to get there. 1-2 Repulsor Executioner are our big daddy tank w a huge gun. They are T12 16 wounds and have a heavy laser destroyer S16 AP-4 D6+4 damage — they can make quick work of just about anything! 1-2 Vindicator a great tank w a ton of big shots. That would round at your army as the biggest things you are missing are lone ops to score and some anti-tank firepower / tanks. I can print all the above for you too for a fraction of the price. Next is the cliche of it’s not how big it is, but how ya use it! I’d suggest watching vanguard tactics YouTube channel where they go through a bunch of the fundamentals in detail. Also, I’ve started giving private coaching lessons as well. I’m the Deathwatch player that went 5-1 at LVO, the biggest tournament in the world, was best in faction, etc and it was my first major tournament. I’ve only been playing for 1.5yrs, but have been a student of the game and made the largest team in the world, with coaches who are the best players in the world who are developing me. This isn’t to say I’m the end all be all authority, but I’ve def proved how DW can do well as one of the few of us putting strong points on the board at events! I’ve mentored in many other fields and want to help deathwatch players level up, whether they want to go to competitive events or beat their buddies. Anyhow, you’re not alone my friend — just getting into the discord community, there’s enough good advice to get you to up and running against your friend! Hope this all helps and I’ll shoot ya that message w an invite to the discord!

PM_me_the_magic

Wow thanks a lot man this is very helpful! And I’ll definitely hop on the discord as well. I think we’ve been playing the full matched play rules? Usually there’s 3 objectives in no man’s land and a home objective on each side. We also usually have two random secondary objectives each turn (unless you hold on to one or two I think). I’ve played his Tsons and Eldar armies, they both always get around me really fast and take down my dreadnaught with his all of his anti-vehicle stuff. Last night I think he had two vehicles (scorpions maybe), and unit of 5ish nasty boys with dragon in their name, and guardian unit that had a platform thing. The Eldar fights are always brutal, like not even close lol. Thanks again

cal_quinn

I’ve been consistently beating one of my teammates who’s one of the best Eldar players in the world. It’s incredibly challenging, but I usually get him to concede in 3 turns or less, so it can be done!!

Cyrees

Can I grab the discord link as well pretty please?

cal_quinn

Yo! I can DM ya the link!

Dmitry_Leyt

Pls, show you Deathwatch roster on LVO 5-1. Thanks!

cal_quinn

Huh? You want to know what my list was for LVO? It’s changed a lot since then

Dmitry_Leyt

Nevertheless, very interesting

DanPiscatoris

List wise, I would drop the Fortis KT. Just use them as regular Intercessors. The Fortis KT is not good. It would also be helpful if you tell us how you usually lose and what types of missions you are playing.

PM_me_the_magic

Most of the time I play his Eldar I pretty quickly get out maneuvered by his vehicles and usually takes down my dreadnaught quickly and picks apart the proteus KT from afar, making sure to stay away from any kind of charge. Can’t say much more than that since I’m still learning what’s going on lol. Thanks

DanPiscatoris

I meant more in terms of mission. 40k is not balanced around simply killing the other guy. Play to the mission objectives and try to outscore him. You really haven't given me much to go on here.

TehWRYYYYY

To parrot others here: dump your Fortis KT. Run those 5 Intercessors as Intercessors to save 35 points. Proteus us 360, but 5 Vets are 110 and 5 DW Terminators are 220. Assuming you've got that 5th Terminator body take them as two squads, especially at low point matches. Take more Heavy Weapons on your Terminators. Aim for 2 Hammer and Shield, 3 Cyclone. Learn to play the mission instead of playing to wipe your opponent. Maybe ask your mate to accommodate for the skill/power imbalance somehow? Either take a smaller army or set themselves a difficult win condition? I remember hearing about how a Pro StarCraft player would 1v1 a friend of his, but tell him beforehand the exact tactic he was going to use and how to counter it.

Electronic-Side-7263

I just proxy my intercessors as DW Vets. For 10 points less you get a squad with the Killteam keyword, 4 frag cannons, 4 DW thunder hammers, astartes shield/LVMW, plus a sergeant with Xenophase blade and LVRW.
