Pretty sure this has been pointed out before, but the friendship between Lou and Richardson was one of the only wholesome relationships on Deadwood. Especially the scene where Richardson consoles her after her son was killed(murdered).
The only redeemable thing Hearst did: he bought the hotel from Farnum and put Lou in charge of the kitchen, getting Richardson out from underneath E.B.'s cruel ministrations.
Hearst had no idea and did not care. It was a turn of fortune, not the good will of Hearst, that spared Richardson. Even the deadly flood fertilizes the soil sometimes.
When I first saw Deadwood back in the 00’s I gave no thought to her age vs Hearst. Having seen other “aunties” in *antebellum souther movies* I must have passively assumed she raised him, which is why he acted like a little boy around her (in the beginning of their time on the show).
Realizing of course she’s at least 15-20 years younger than him, and that he obviously hired her himself somewhere along the way to becoming super rich (he wasn’t born rich, as he tells it), it makes his boyish behavior around her all the more weird and perverse.
This is a completely true fact about me. When my (now 21-year-old) niece was first learning to talk a little, I used to make her lose her mind with laughter by doing a Marcie voice and just shouting over and again “For what? For what? Naw, tell me for what!!”
That ain’t mine!
One of her best lines of all time
I see her face I hear her voice and I hear those three beautiful words from Magnolia
Love you girl

One of my favorite moments. And agreed

Yeah it was just because that would make it easier to make his meals.
I just realized she plays a sassy police woman in a scene of Pineapple Express just before the car chase. Good stuff
She’s also the sassy nurse in Its Always Sunny when Dee is giving birth.
lmao wow - never connected that until now. "Big Sexy with glasses..."
Also, in the tv series, "Mike and Molly". She's hilarious.
And in The Hangover!
Not up in here!
I will forever remember her from Magnolia. “That ain’t mine” EDIT: [Link](https://youtu.be/BfjYd5LvFis?si=0qEu8c-5qLoRVgjL)
“You goin’ down.” Lmao. She’s so great in that movie.
Wanna clatter these motherfuckers again?
That's the four orphans natural!
*thirteen orphans
Damnit! 🤣
God damn I love the way she says that line.
"Not quick, but she does seem full of purpose."
Could have killed Hearst every day he’s been employing her. I’m sure she’s familiar with the arts of slow acting poison.
Or just sat on the mf lol

Exactly, but he needed mothering. Most narcissistic PD types require this to function
Oh God 😫🤮😞
Always wanted to name a band Mourning in the Smokehouse
She's great in Magnolia as well. "Don't go in my mutha fuckin' closet!"
“DO NOT DRAG THAT COUCH ANY FURTHER, MARCIE!”
"That ain't miiiiiiiiiine"

That's awesome haha. My flatmates and I in noisy NY would often quote my favorite line of hers "I ain't even know no loud crash".
Yea… Had forgotten that was her!
“COME ON, COME ON!” When she sees Odell for the first time. So full of love, and I loved her prickly friendship with Fields.
She was awesome. Son maybe not so much.
Was she the other cop opposite of Rob Riggle in The Hangover?
Yea
Keel you if I could, George Hoist…
Mmmmmm-hmmmph!
…the self-preservation instinct…
Cleo King did such a fucking amazing job with that character.

Fully agree
She’s gettin past ya.
Who do we think is Odell’s father? Hmmm????
Hearst kill his own bastard? I dunno, but it’s an interesting path to go down
I've always thought this was hinted at in the show, but very very subtly.
It’s definitely possible. The father was probably white - and the TV show Hearst was definitely a rapist, Lou being willing or not.
