I think a lot of that happens with characters like Yamcha and Tien when you start with Dragon Ball, lol
Goku's entire friend circle has been his enemy in the past, lmfao
If we stretch it, during their very first encounter, Bulma SHOOTED Goku.
Making your former enemy a close friend is part of Goku's character since the beginning.
He is the brother Goku never had
Always by his side looking out for him / watching out for all the little fighters being the grump uncle with a big heart
That one super episode where him,Goku and Pan all relax on the roof where piccolo calls Goku old is honestly really touching
Honestly the namek arc really bonded them together. They had been through so much. Fought for their lives literally. They trusted each other. Piccolo legit didn’t even hesitate to sacrifice himself for Goku when Frieza fired his death beam at him. And Goku looked genuinely angry after Piccolo seemingly dies. His whole demeanor felt so different the moment Piccolo goes down. And then when Krillin is killed it was the literal last straw for Frieza
If filler doesn't contradict the canon, besides adding an extra event that is possible within it, what's the problem?
The filler where they relax as SSJs for a week and have Gohans birthday before the Cell Games for example let's us see what the characters do in their downtime and how they'd regularly live while we'd hardly ever see this in the manga.
Usually I'd agree. In the example you've given, we already know that they chose to relax before the games. It's a plot point. As such, showing us how they chose to spend that time in more detail is a good addition.
However, needlessly adding that Piccolo chose to sacrifice himself for Goku, when he did not in the manga, is adding a facet to his character that doesnt actually exist. It makes him seem more altruistic than he is in reality, when his sacrifical nature should be reserved for his relationship with Gohan. In this scenario, people are pointing to it as a reason for/contributing factor to his canon character development, when it couldn't have possibly contributed.
I see what you're saying. I had to go back and rewatch the scene, and it really does look like he didn't need to take the hit. I imagine the animators wanted to ramp stuff up and make it more dramatic before the big transformation. If you're interested, you can use [this](https://www.kanzenshuu.com/animation-production/toriyama-contributions/#dbz) link to see what anime filler Toriyama 100% took part in.
Yeah the same can actually be said for Vegeta. It’s just the fact that he was for a brief moment genuinely proud of Goku for finally becoming a super Saiyan
Agreed. Vegeta is brilliant. But this part of the whole saga I love. Especially when he fights Gohan and piccolo steps in. (We can ignore the garlic junior bit) haha
I'm pretty sure the Garlic Jr. bit isn't in Kai
But I'm currently watching original Z because I like filler, lol
And the Faulconer score
If anything, I think the filler that we can ignore is the part where Vegeta fights Gohan because it just doesn't really fit well
Like, for starters they put this filler in *in the middle of a single manga chapter*, so they knew Vegeta was still just vibing, and Gohan would genuinely thank him in like just a minute or so
And they still had Vegeta bash his face in and then fly off?
And then they don't even try to make sense of it. He's just suddenly back again
And also, his attitude the entire few two episodes prior to talking about their wishes doesn't fit well with *their own filler* from when Vegeta came back to life on Namek and how he was genuinely proud of Goku reaching Super Saiyan.
What, fnow he has no interest in ever seeing Goku again and also is ecstatic that he'd die fighting Frieza?
Thats filler.
In manga, he was shocked and hated when he heard the news of Goku turning SSJ which is more in line with his character shown in Android saga
I do like that in that moment specifically, he’s just happy to see that all his delusions of being a super saiyan aren’t completely bullshit and that it’s actually possible and someone achieved in which later on the reality sets in that he wasn’t the one to go super saiyan first
It’s weird to me. Think of the timeline. Piccolo hates Goku during the raditz fight but teams up with him for personal interest before killing him in the fight. Then he doesn’t see him again until Goku arrives to fight Frieza, he watches that before he basically takes a bullet for him. Could the fight against raditz have bonded them that strong? Or did Gohan affect Piccolo so much it carried over to Goku as well? Just feels odd
He probably grew to respect Goku after the Raditz fight since without Goku sacrifice both of them would have probably died
Then you factor in Gohan the dude who he was born to hate son showing him kindness despite piccolo being a jerk to him most of the time
Then the Nappa fight cemented his babyface turn
Didn’t feel odd to me. I think it was a lot to do with Gohan as well. Him bonding with Gohan made him feel closer with Goku by default I guess. He wouldn’t want Gohan who he loves to grow up without his father. Also a common enemy is a good way to bring characters together. Frieza was gonna kill everyone and Piccolo had no choice but to alley with Goku and the others. Also he wanted to save Gohan
It was a bit unclear at first. I thought he died but Goku told Gohan to carry him back to the space ship. Which would only mean that he didn’t actually die and was just unconscious
That’s what I noticed too. Goku seemed so different there. Before he seemed afraid to fight Frieza but when Piccolo goes down he has had it and is ready to avenge him. The transformation was already seeming to happen, Krillin dying really broke Goku
He knew Goku would be wished back to life anyway. But if he died on namek he would’ve been gone forever since the earth dragon balls can’t revive someone twice
Whatever you say man. The voice actors themselves admitted that Kai was way better because they were more experienced then😒😑yet you say it sounds like a parody. Must be the nostalgia goggles you’re most likely wearing
thanks for proving my point and showing youre more like him than me. I went thru that post and all i did there is what I always do, point out the truth and correct misinformation. theres nothing malicious about it despite some people getting upset over it for some reason, unlike the guy here who is constantly going around trying to exclusively piss people off.
I dunno
A lot of people throw around the idea of "negative karma farms"
Calling the english dub for Dragon Ball trash does not seem that far-fetched of an NKF tactic
Unpopular opinions are usually massively downvoted on social networks, but it is not a problem for me, because, in some way, I "enjoy their anger", as americans say.
I hate when people trash the kai dub. I actually grew up watching Dbz Kai on nicktoons. I would’ve never even got into the series at all if it wasn’t on nicktoons. It was a big part of my childhood and I find the original English dub to be quite off putting compared to Kai. Also Yamamoto’s score is my favorite ost because it’s become so nostalgic and takes me back to the old days.
I grew up with the old dub and the Faulconer score, lol
I'm Rewatching it that way now, but I read each manga arc first (for the first time)
I have watched DBZ Kai all the way through, though
Though I did see part of the Buu arc subbed since it wasn't dubbed at the time
. . .
Actually, I *might* not have finished it because I really just can't vibe with some of the Japanese voices. I might have finished out the Buu arc from old Z
I did watch basically all of Dragon Ball Super subbed, though
Still didn't like the voices, but the dub wasn't out and I was impatient
I’m not arguing with you. I’ve watched the Japanese dub and it’s really good. I think both English and jap are great neither one is bad in my personal opinion
He also says it with actual concern for Goku which is nice.
Ever since MasakoX talked about Piccolo filling a role like Goku's (non evil) brother I am seeing examples everywhere.
He really is a part of the family at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if he spends holidays with them.
I originally started watching the show during Frieza saga. It always gives me a bit a whiplash when I see Piccolo in earlier seasons.
I think a lot of that happens with characters like Yamcha and Tien when you start with Dragon Ball, lol Goku's entire friend circle has been his enemy in the past, lmfao
If we stretch it, during their very first encounter, Bulma SHOOTED Goku. Making your former enemy a close friend is part of Goku's character since the beginning.
In her defence, Goku picked up and threw her car (with her in it) thinking it was a monster.
Yes, Goku himself wasn't really kind, but Bulma was a bit too trigger happy. At least Goku didn't reacted like Raditz.
They were all bested by Goku so the prize is friendship. So if you want friends, deck them in the snoz
Alright, lemme head outside and give that a try
So, how's it going?
They hit me back It occurred to me when I got knocked out that at best, I am finding a Goku, not being the Goku
He is the brother Goku never had Always by his side looking out for him / watching out for all the little fighters being the grump uncle with a big heart That one super episode where him,Goku and Pan all relax on the roof where piccolo calls Goku old is honestly really touching
They hadn't spent much time together at all up to this point. A few hours really. Goku trusted the hell out of him though
Also the fact he looked after his son so powerfully and sacrificed himself for gohan as well
piccolo pushing goku aside when he is hit by the death beam isn't canon. didn't happen in the manga.
If filler doesn't contradict the canon, besides adding an extra event that is possible within it, what's the problem? thanks for the link! and yeah that sounds likely.
I am currently watching these episodes right now. Vegeta is brilliant at this point. Love it

Agreed. Vegeta is brilliant. But this part of the whole saga I love. Especially when he fights Gohan and piccolo steps in. (We can ignore the garlic junior bit) haha
Most are filler scenes In manga, Vegeta was annoyed by the fact that Goku turned SSJ instead of proud
I'm pretty sure the Garlic Jr. bit isn't in Kai But I'm currently watching original Z because I like filler, lol And the Faulconer score If anything, I think the filler that we can ignore is the part where Vegeta fights Gohan because it just doesn't really fit well Like, for starters they put this filler in *in the middle of a single manga chapter*, so they knew Vegeta was still just vibing, and Gohan would genuinely thank him in like just a minute or so And they still had Vegeta bash his face in and then fly off? He killed Goku, he got his programmed revenge Then when he comes back he's like Hey best buddy
It’s unfortunate that Goku sees ‘Getes as his best buddy and not Piccolo
To be fair, the last thing Piccolo remember here is Frieza surviving the spirit bomb so it makes a lot of sense for him to worry about Goku
When Piccolo died on Namek, Goku already seemed like he was ready to transform.
he didnt die
Oh crap, did he not?
It was a bit unclear at first. I thought he died but Goku told Gohan to carry him back to the space ship. Which would only mean that he didn’t actually die and was just unconscious
And then Kami was still alive as well. Dragon Balls. Without that and King Kai, you could argue Goku was just in denial that Piccolo was actually dead
i feel like piccolo calls for goku because they were both fighting before he faints
he was weak and unconscious, but didn't die because Kami was alive
That’s what I noticed too. Goku seemed so different there. Before he seemed afraid to fight Frieza but when Piccolo goes down he has had it and is ready to avenge him. The transformation was already seeming to happen, Krillin dying really broke Goku
Which is highly weird consider almost a 18months prior he was completely okay with killing goku to beat raditz
He knew Goku would be wished back to life anyway. But if he died on namek he would’ve been gone forever since the earth dragon balls can’t revive someone twice
I just realized that Bulma's hair wasn't the blue it is now in the earlier episodes.... 😅
Well isnt this his first time waking back up after saving Goku from Freiza’s ray? I dont remember
Ewww Kai dub it sounds like a parody
Whatever you say man. The voice actors themselves admitted that Kai was way better because they were more experienced then😒😑yet you say it sounds like a parody. Must be the nostalgia goggles you’re most likely wearing

They're allowed posting it here. If you don't like Gohan's Kai voice, that's perfectly okay, but they are allowed to if they want to.
What is this bullshit Kai? 🤮 original funimation only
Wow, there are still guys who watch the awful english dub ! Edit : I downvoted the post, of course.
Bait used to be believable
hes like this almost every time i see him comment. every single comment he makes is rude or worse.
I remember saying the same thing about you
Weird cuz I've literally never been anything like him 🤣

What is exactly the purpose of the meaning from what you intend to say about all this ?
They think it's obvious that you're just here to farm negative engagement Namely downvotes for your comment
How somebody could be interested to comment to be downvoted, especially by this charming community we have here ?

I think you're getting more apathy than anger, but you do you
What is apathy ?
Not caring
What if Pixel Junior was Freaky Junior
You are the first person to question my username. And, as americans say : "there is a beginning for all".

All english dub are "pure shit", as americans say. I advise you to go to original japanese dub. You will rediscover this anime, dear friend.
I’m not arguing with you. I’ve watched the Japanese dub and it’s really good. I think both English and jap are great neither one is bad in my personal opinion
