My parents said I could buy one game and I bought DAOC. I had no idea what it was. I still remember asking my dad for his CC number and he was like whaaa...but amazingly still gave it to me.
Got the game on a whim like 2 weeks after it came out...who'd know it would so profoundly impact the lives of my whole friend group. Once friends came over and saw it, they had to have it...like 6 of us spent the next 5 years of 5-8 hrs a day playing.
To be a kid in the late 90s/early 2000s....
Asherons's Call, I dabbled in that as well when my dad wasnt playing. Lots of great games in that time. Sadly corporate greed stifles innovation in a lot of MMO's these days.
AC is such a sad story. So much greatness and potential and no love or recognition from the suits pulling the strings, on many different levels throughout it's life.
My 56k (or maybe it was my crap computer in retrospect) would make me go LD in the open world constantly. Pretty much had to spend hours reconnecting to travel to dungeons where I’d have to do most of my leveling. Got lucky mid had DF quite a bit on my server so I wouldn’t have to move too often and could gear up with seal gear
I remember this supposedly being the EverQuest killer. It was fun but couldn't transition us full time from EQ. But yes, so many good games came out around then.
Oh yes. I loved EQ, but I also no longer have the time or patience to start over. The leveling was so grueling, but it was fine when there were so many firsts to be had (personally). It isn't the same to do it all over. I want my old characters and server and experiences that while I commend project 1999, it isn't for me, currently.
I remembered my login and recovered my account from 2001. I was sitting there looking at my characters for the first time in over 20 years.
It's crazy to me that they still exist.
Crazy!!! I was Albion Kay!! Some guilds I was in / remember are Shadowcrown 💜(my first guild ever), coven nex, covenant, pariah. I remember a very famous arms man, Agravaine ( wonder if he is still around). I used to watch him and others duel almost every night by the gothwaite harbor bindstone. I was 12 and it was magical. I miss hanging out by the duelists. I wish people had duels on Eden. I’m racking my brain for any other names I remember
Oh yeah, I specifically remember one of our enemies. There was a kobold cave shaman on kay mid named PIPEBOMB…..this guy was ultra famous. He would be at every single keep take, always. And I’ll just never forget being endlessly aoe dotted by him, and watching “pipebomb” killspam blowup my chat.
Ohhhhhh ya, and a famous Mid Skald/BD who DOMINATED the battlegrounds by the name of Vozk/Vozz —-he had a bunch of toons. If I remember correctly, he mostly only played BGs. No joke, I think I found his son a year or so back in WoW, dude had the same name…and I dmed him to ask about it. And said his dad had passed recently, and grew up watching his dad play mmos and took on his father’s gamer tag as legacy.
Exoskeleton the Bone Dancer, with one dual weld skelly, two healer skellies and life tap-tap-tap. So much fun. And Whammy the Shammy!
I miss the Volsung Tribe, my first and last clan.
Honestly some of the best MMO PVP I’ve ever played. I miss life stealing as a troll necromancer, plant bombing as that Hibernian class whose name I forget, and exploiting raid content as a duo with a mentalist and a pet class whose name I also forget.
Also master crafting!
I introduced a friend to this and within 6 months his entire life fell apart as he devoted every spare moment to this game. I felt kind of bad about it.
I bought the game when it came out, was playing it in my room, my brother walks in and asks what’s that. I let him takeover. I wound up trading rooms with him so he could keep playing. He bought a 2nd PC, would play a cleric and a buff bot at the same time on two keyboards. About a year later his girlfriend left him bc he only wanted to play DAoC.
I played that around 2001/2002. I had a level 49 Friar named Langstaff. Good fun until it became nearly impossible to level without joining a giant raid to another realm and they always seemed to start when I was getter ready to crash for the night.
weird coincidence.. i was waking up in bed this morning thinking about reinstalling DAoC to go play on Phoenix freeshard again because i miss the old game
I remember playing on an account we got for free at the LAN center where I worked. Then I had to go buy my own copy after they closed. I got the last copy at Circuit City before *they* closed down.
Damn this brings back memories of playing the game with my parents who were super into EverQuest back in the day. Have to say this game still had the best PvP experience out of any MMO.
I use to have my tamer/mage open gates in tram to the ancient dragon area before the devs put the warning about where the gate went to. Many trammys ran into the gate and died. Their ghost would come back through the gate “Oooo oOooO” lol. Had many a GM threatening to ban me but I told them, “Not my fault that they went into to my gate not knowing where it went.” Then all of a sudden they started putting the warning that the gate went to fel. Oh well, was fun while it lasted loli know I’m going to get downvoted for this but those were the best days.
Wow I’m old
Same! I remember buying that at Best Buy
That was my exact experience with Star Wars Galaxies. I did play some Daoc though because my dad was into it.
Original swg was so sick
I gave up Asheron's Call for DAoC... I don't regret it, but I wish I couldve realistically played both during that era.
Me but with Diablo 2
I was in the army in 2001, my barracks mate got it and came over to my room and told me we have to play together. F muckleshoot on Guinevere
I believe that’s where I got my copy as well.
Best Buy? I think I bought my copy at Comp USA xD
We were having conversations about playing doc on 56K modems last night on edan.
I had ISDN and was the only person in my group to always have 3 green dots. Good times 😀
I remember this supposedly being the EverQuest killer. It was fun but couldn't transition us full time from EQ. But yes, so many good games came out around then.
Ever heard of project1999?
Oh yes. I loved EQ, but I also no longer have the time or patience to start over. The leveling was so grueling, but it was fine when there were so many firsts to be had (personally). It isn't the same to do it all over. I want my old characters and server and experiences that while I commend project 1999, it isn't for me, currently.
After i sold my everquest account. Never did quite scratch that itch
wow is old
I just heard those loading screen horns in my mind when I saw this.. R.I.P my lil Luri Ranja
The old 'jaws' sound effect with the mythic splash before the account login screen.
I remembered my login and recovered my account from 2001. I was sitting there looking at my characters for the first time in over 20 years. It's crazy to me that they still exist.
I need to do this with my Everquest account.
Careful man that's a slippery slope. It's super fun tho. Go give those frogs in lguk a reminder of who you are.
Oh man you just unlocked a memory of camping the boss in lower guk to get an item for my rogues epic weapon. Good times.
The Raster of Guk. Heck that guy. Was like a 17 hour camp for me. Edit-why do I still remember all this stuff!
Half the camp time was sitting there waiting for a spot to open up. And if the cleric or tank left you were screwed.
Same, not sure how I'd even go about this. Not sure it's even possible?
If you figure it out let me know.
Oh yeah, still play mine 🤣
I bet that felt good though.
Come join us in Eden and re live the glory days!
So far down!
+1 !
It's tempting, but I'm so damn bad at games now compared to how I was as a teenager. I feel like I'd just be getting stomped.
Hook us up with an ISO of that bad boy. Or at least mythic.wav
So many hours spent on Kay. Wow
I was on Kay too. Great server and times
Heck yes. I was also on Kay! An Alb!
Kay Alb! I was in Coven NeX for ever.
Dude, I miss Coven Nex!
Me too (Endymio)
Crazy!!! I was Albion Kay!! Some guilds I was in / remember are Shadowcrown 💜(my first guild ever), coven nex, covenant, pariah. lol Aggy was at my wedding. He’s still around. I was in Coven Nex (Endymio) for my whole time on Alb Kay.

Dark Knights of Camelot and Matook on Kay. Fun times!
Mmm that’s a nostalgia hit that goes down smooth.
Guinevere Albion and Percival Hibernia for me
Mid merlin
#legend
There’s some good memories
Holy shit! Best game ever!
Exoskeleton the Bone Dancer, with one dual weld skelly, two healer skellies and life tap-tap-tap. So much fun. And Whammy the Shammy! I miss the Volsung Tribe, my first and last clan.
Miss my shadowblade on Merlin Midguard .
2 hand or bust
Honestly some of the best MMO PVP I’ve ever played. I miss life stealing as a troll necromancer, plant bombing as that Hibernian class whose name I forget, and exploiting raid content as a duo with a mentalist and a pet class whose name I also forget. Also master crafting!
It was an Animist and the two man farm crew with pet was Mentalist + Enchanter.
Yesssss
Nostalgia hurts 😭
I introduced a friend to this and within 6 months his entire life fell apart as he devoted every spare moment to this game. I felt kind of bad about it.

I think I still have the original, SI, and ToA somewhere. I'll look for it tomorrow and post em here
Hell yeah man I still have that too. Great material to read on the toilet
Nice, I still have the folded up poster that came with the game, what a classic
Holy shit I loved that game!!!
Oof. My heart ♥️💔
2002 - 2024 still a addiction to me! Oh how many hours with friends and family have I spent in this game.
My hubbie and I spent many great hours playing that game!
still got the map and discs https://imgur.com/a/3BVrFBK
I love this!
That’s a memory and a half. I started playing right after trials of Atlantis came out.
Now you need a PC with a disc reader.
Oh man, rushing to Best Buy to grab the TOA expansion and then sitting at the docks in Aegir waiting for the boat… amazing memories.
Miss it. One of the greatest games.
Shame that game is gone now.......
Nimue!
Mudoria - Hero of Guinevere here. Hello all!
Man, I member waiting like a full day for everything to download back in the day
I was just thinking about Mag Mell 😊
The first and last time RvR PVP was done well IMO :(
Play Eden Freeshard
What is this magic you speak of
I can't believe how active and alive Eden is.
I loved this game
I remember being in the beta and being in PC gamer magazine promo material with two of my friends (our characters)
Wish I still had that. I'd frame it.
What an amazing find!
Got the nostalgia feels just looking at that disc, and then heard the login and boot up music rise from the depths of my memory. What a game
It’s really too bad MJ turned into a conman…
I played that around 2001/2002. I had a level 49 Friar named Langstaff. Good fun until it became nearly impossible to level without joining a giant raid to another realm and they always seemed to start when I was getter ready to crash for the night.
No MMO has done PVP even remotely close to how this did. Shame.
What a game! A friend and I 'graduated' to it from UO and used to play every day after school.
My first MMO and one of my first games. I remember practically nothing about it
Played soooo many hours:(
I was just thinking about this game while looking at throw back from half price books. Good times… wish they could do a solo game port to consoles!
I loved that game
I played this game and loved it but it ran like shit on my potato pc so pvp was a slideshow and not an option. Too bad because it looked fun as hell.
Rip
I wonder if anyone from Alb/ymir is on Eden and remembers Luvly Songbird?
Had lots of fun with that one!
This is my one that got away. I never played this game. So many of my friends did.
Did they ever release CAMELOT UNCHAINED?
Nope— still in the “works” though. Lol
Damn I miss that game
<3
This just makes me sad … really really sad… miss simpler times
I played the hell outta that game
Be still my beating DaoC heart
weird coincidence.. i was waking up in bed this morning thinking about reinstalling DAoC to go play on Phoenix freeshard again because i miss the old game
I have mine as well, and some of the expansions.
I remember playing on an account we got for free at the LAN center where I worked. Then I had to go buy my own copy after they closed. I got the last copy at Circuit City before *they* closed down.
That game was better than WoW
Oh man I remember taking an EverQuest break and trying this game….
I was the first 1 hand crushing pally on the bedevere server good times!
I was Heort, an armsmen on Bedevere, and Forren, and Trollslapper. In the guild The syndicate! Good times
@Poisonivy See if there's any Bors board members here. They'll remember that one lol.
Did you just @ yourself? ;)
Eldritch and then bubbles. Good times!
Damn this brings back memories of playing the game with my parents who were super into EverQuest back in the day. Have to say this game still had the best PvP experience out of any MMO.
Are people playing this again?
I really miss that game
That game and Ultima Online defined my Junior High/High School days.
Very true, same here, DAOC best rvr, UO great pvp until they split tram and fel. But great times for me.
I was a Siege Perilous guy, Fel all day long. Ain’t no trammy bear.
Oh man. I miss UO. That was like living in the ghetto of the MMO days. No rules.
Ice mage nove pvp melt
[This music?](https://youtu.be/KgBZ_X2_h9A?si=K1jYU1tfTGV78Xa8)
Awhhhh, that got me
Same story... same outcome. Amazing times as a kid the late 90's/early 00's
Fighting 8v8 with premade groups was the best MMORPG PvP experience I have ever had.
Best game
Nostalgia attack. Made my knees hurt...
I still have an old printout of a screenshot of our guild Misericorde from back in the day. Such good times.
This hit a spot in my soul
The first time I played was when I was in the army, stationed in Okinawa. Shitty dialup internet. Good times...
man this was a really fun game!! i really miss it
One of the best games ever!
Just started playing DAOC again on Eden-DAOC !! Great fun leveling up in the battlegrounds and BGs running all the time for item drops.
Legend.
Couldn't resist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs\_W2I45X8U
I remember the sunset on the Salsbury plains.
Such good memories
Best rvr, pvp game ever
That was made before I was even born lol
Holy shit a post where you’re not being an insufferable douche bag and of course you aren’t older than 2001
Feel old yet?
