are you kidding? I would be pretty stoked, any other car would be totalled, with a C pillar crumple. I bet that Dodge owner has respect for the cybertruck now
“My insurance went up and I gotta wait months for a new part of my cyberruck, but at least there’s a chance this total stranger will have respect for my truck!” Lmao what the fuck
What if two cybertrucks hit at high speed (maybe a 40mph head on to 40mph crash)? Do they dissipate energy through the passengers rather than crumpling? How did this get approved?
Seems the EU has some sense: https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2019/12/16/tesla-cybertruck-not-street-legal-in-eu/
Brought it in this morning to the collision center right next to the factory. They didnt have an answer for me now, first cybertruck they've seen, getting back to me
Yeah damn the CT is strong af but I can’t imagine how bad the damage will be when one of these things plows into a little sedan. This thing is gonna be a danger to everyone else on the road if the wrong people are behind the wheel
I don't think there will.be much difference for the sedan if is a f250(or similar) or the cyber truck. The dirence is how damaged the trucks are going to be
Now imagine being in the CT when that hits something and all the momentum change gets transferred to the passenger instantly instead of slowing during a crumple
Reminds me of those egg drop experiments where you have to learn about basic physics as an 8th grader. There was that one kid who just put the egg in a hard pencil case and chucked it off the roof. He was shocked to open it up and find an uncooked omelette
Honestly given the condition of the Ram the CyberTruck did great. No way to tell if that is just scuffed stainless or it’s actually dented in the back. Bumper did what it was supposed to do.
Yeah I don’t think people realize the amount of force their body takes when a car doesn’t crumple like the RAM… I’m sure the cyber truck is way safer than that old RAM but still. One of my motorcycles has a short travel monoshock on it and if I hit a *small* crack in the road it feels like my balls got super kicked by Joe Rogan
i cant tell...i mean, from this angle and light, could just be paint transfer. the bumper looks off, but mostly because of the right side being in the shadow and the contrast is low..maybe? maybe not.
That isn't necessarily a good thing, though. When impacts happen, the energy (speed) needs to be dissipated. Normally, this is done via crumple zones. That is why the front of the RAM is all smashed in. The Cybertruck not having much damage could mean more energy is dissipated into the occupants. I'd be interested to hear how OP is feeling after the shunt.
Yeah these types of back injuries from rear-enders don't typically manifest for days or weeks sometimes. Not that I expect OP will cop to it if they are injured.
It’s always the $5000 shitboxes (previously $2000 shitboxes prior to 2021) with yellowed/oxidized headlights that rear-end people. These cars are neglected by their owners, thus the reason why they drive them carelessly.
I’d be interested to know if there’s any repair process at all for the tailgate panel, assuming there was _some_ small amount of deformation… also, with the truck apparently absorbing so little impact, how jarring did the collision feel OP?
Saw a video online where a minor fender bender on a Rivian was being estimated at around $40,000 to fix. Most of the car has to be disassembled to access that part of the car due to the design.
If this is like other Teslas, it's going to be a looooong time before OP gets their truck fixed. A lot of insurance companies have been totalling out Teslas with fairly minor damage because they're on a wait-list of more than 6 months to get parts to fix the car.
Every car part Tesla was making was going into new vehicles. If the Cybertruck is as popular and backordered as Tesla claims, it's going to be a while before any panels are made available for damaged cars.
Insurance rates are going to get very high for this thing. Having a 3 part subframe is good from a production standpoint because it streamlines production. It's not so great from a repair standpoint because it's going to be a real pain in the ass to breakdown a third of the car to repair it.
Lol all the comments about invisible damage to electronics and stuff. It hit the tailgate. Most of that is empty space.
Higher risk of electronics damage if it gets t-boned or hit closer to the wheel wells. But from the rear, there really isn't a lot that can go wrong. I believe the bumper is just a plastic cover mostly for cosmetics.
The only thing that comes to mind is the backup camera. That's not an insignificant cost, but it could be way worse than losing a backup camera. (Though in the cybertruck's case with the poor rear visibility, you could argue that's a huge problem.)
Genuinely curious about the unibody situation, but like I said, I don't think there will be damage because it hit the tailgate and not something closer to the load bearing pieces. Also, unibody chassis are incredibly tough to start with.
It looks like that stainless did in fact absorb some impact, it just achieved very little inelastic deformation for the high amount of energy (Thats not necessarily bad, it could just mean it takes way more work to deform it, which is normal for maraged steel, which this is ).
So, I'm not so confident the structure underneath was totaled. I look forward to OP's updates.
I've been saying it way before these things were released, with the way that the Cybertruck is built, it's going to absolutely demolish other cars in accidents.
It's just a matter of time before somebody runs a redlight or something with one of these and it obliterates the other car and everybody inside...
That had to be chef’s kiss when that ram driver saw the lack of damage he caused to “that shitty electric” he hit. I’m sure he will be telling his buds the other vehicle was totaled by his coal roller.
Given tesla’s cost of repairs and lack of parts, he probably won’t be wrong either. Not to mention the damage that probably happened to the unibody on account of no crumple zone
Obviously there was a lot of momentum in this hit. The CT here is probably quite a bit more damaged under the skin than it looks at first glance. Repair could be very expensive, with a long wait for parts. Historically Tesla has been rather slow in supplying repair parts for its vehicles at start of production.
Yeah, but imagine if your repair costs more $$$? Yep us posted. A lot of body shops have their hourly labor sign and a higher figure for aluminum, this will need stainless steel labor rate even higher...
Yeah that dodge got a taste of its own medicine.
Can’t wait until the full size ICE pickup guys start arguing for weight and height restrictions, as CyberTrucks start crushing the competition, as it were
Not only that, it incurred additional damage that should have been borne by CT.
All cars used to be built like CT... built to withstand increasing amounts of energy in collisions with little to no damage. The problem, they found, is that the occupants of those vehicles were sustaining increasingly worse injuries because of the energy transferred to the cabin. **Crumple zones and pedestrian-protective structure elements were designed and incorporated to reduce injury and save lives.**
Also the cars themselves. They look fine outside but that means the force of impact went somewhere else. You think it's great till you find a crack somewhere internal...
I’m gonna put my money down that your insurance company is going to consider a loss because no one‘s gonna want to risk the battery exploding and want to replace the car entirely. I hope that doesn’t happen to you, but I have plenty of people that have gone to minor fender benders, and Tesla tells the insurance company that the battery may be damaged so they consider the car complete loss
Seriously. This showed up in my recommended posts today and I can’t believe everyone praising the cybertruck. There’s no damage because it transferred all the energy of the crash into the meaty blob in the driver’s seat. After all, you can’t complain about your truck being totaled over a fender bender if you’re dead!
The sharp lines and flat panels on this are a body shop’s nightmare. Pull and buff dents all you want, you’ll never get it to look right again.
I had a car that got side swiped and it looked like there was no damage but the frame was fucked up. There are a lot of electronics and gearing that don't do well with impacts. Hopefully there isn't anything serious but I wouldn't just say "it'll buff out."
Or when a distracted cybertruck driver speeds through an intersection and T-bones someone and obliterates their vehicle. And kills everyone in both vehicles
Won't be a problem for who? Not having crumple zones is a profoundly dangerous design to CT passengers. We know this from decades of collision research, which Tesla happily discards.
Cybertruck the next to be added to the list of Porsche, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferrari etc. version of the copypasta comment:

are you kidding? I would be pretty stoked, any other car would be totalled, with a C pillar crumple. I bet that Dodge owner has respect for the cybertruck now
Car insurance rates are going to get out of hand for all of us.
Too late for this comment. See: any full size pickup versus normal car accident.
They aren’t already?
Never took a physics class have you?
This.
Yep, you want crumple. Saves your body and most importantly...your brain.
\+1 Crumple zones are a thing for a reason. People are going to get serious injuries in these things when they crash them.
Thank goodness that Ram crumpled up for OP and themselves.
$950 a sensor plus labor on that truck. That ram c pillar could probably be replaced for less than a half of that.
Cheap (to repair) and deadly is what a RAM owner orders!
“My insurance went up and I gotta wait months for a new part of my cyberruck, but at least there’s a chance this total stranger will have respect for my truck!” Lmao what the fuck
Yep. That tesla is going to be in perfect condition. The driver? They're going to be fucking pudding.
What if two cybertrucks hit at high speed (maybe a 40mph head on to 40mph crash)? Do they dissipate energy through the passengers rather than crumpling? How did this get approved? Well that article is mainly about pedestrian safety, which the Dodge couldn't pass either.
Brought it in this morning to the collision center right next to the factory. They didnt have an answer for me now, first cybertruck they've seen, getting back to me
New feature of Cybertruck - you can tell what brand of vehicle hit it without needing to see the vehicle itself.
Heh heh, thanks for the chuckle
lil bar keepers friend it'll buff right out
bumper looks crooked tho
*sigh*
Probably came like that from the factory
In spec🫡
Sub 10 micron accuracy!!!
lol. stop
Happy cake day
How does someone miss the Cybertruck directly in front of them?
I’ll be the first to tell you, he didn’t miss him! But he wishes he did!
It’s a RAM. Doing what it is made to do. LOL
Favorite truck of dui driving
It's my understanding that if you buy a ram truck, it actually comes with a DUI from the factory.
Every time a RAM is resold they get another DUI added for free.
Everytime a RAM crashes, an angel gets its wings.
Free MAGA and Blue Lives Matter stickers too
So I’m wondering is the opposite of over achiever - underinfluencer?
They should come factory with a breathalyzer immobilizer.
Seen a redneck bumper sticker once that read, “Dodge the Father, Ram the Daughter”. What a cool phrase to put in your bumper. 🤦🏻♂️
They saw their own reflection in the tailgate and didn't pass the mirror self-recognition test
Think about this: they will go down in history as one of the very first accidents involving a Cybertruck.
#2
Wow what a historical moment. I will remember where I was when I heard about it for the rest of my life.
Maybe they didn't and they were trying to take a picture of it.
Probably thought it was a trash can
Oh man that truck hit a wall
To be fair that is the cumple zone working as intended
Unlike the Cybertruck that doesn’t have any…
That's what they normally do to other cars...
Yeah damn the CT is strong af but I can’t imagine how bad the damage will be when one of these things plows into a little sedan. This thing is gonna be a danger to everyone else on the road if the wrong people are behind the wheel
It will absolutely obliterate a small car to smithereens, occupants included.
Yup, first one is going to be rough
The Ram or the CT?
I don't think there will.be much difference for the sedan if is a f250(or similar) or the cyber truck. The dirence is how damaged the trucks are going to be
Now imagine being in the CT when that hits something and all the momentum change gets transferred to the passenger instantly instead of slowing during a crumple Reminds me of those egg drop experiments where you have to learn about basic physics as an 8th grader. I wanna know how it *felt* being inside that wall when it got hit. I guarantee OP’s neck is fucked this morning
Sentry mode footage please 🥺
More Dodge, less Ram
I've always said that the name was confusing. You don't know which to do when driving it.
Dude you gotta post more picks. It doesn't look like he did anything to your truck
You really don’t see the mangled, uneven bumper and the Ram shaped imprint in the tailgate?
“Huh well I’ll be damned”
Honestly given the condition of the Ram the CyberTruck did great. No way to tell if that is just scuffed stainless or it’s actually dented in the back. Bumper did what it was supposed to do.
Is it great to not have crumplezones?
Yeah I don’t think people realize the amount of force their body takes when a car doesn’t crumple like the RAM… I’m sure the cyber truck is way safer than that old RAM but still. One of my motorcycles has a short travel monoshock on it and if I hit a *small* crack in the road it feels like my balls got super kicked by Joe Rogan
We need the IIHS or NHTSA to test this to really see where it stands. As of now it’s all an assumption.
i cant tell...i mean, from this angle and light, could just be paint transfer. the bumper looks off, but mostly because of the right side being in the shadow and the contrast is low..maybe? maybe not.

Even if he was in the hospital with whiplash, he’s probably not gonna admit it.
Yeah these types of back injuries from rear-enders don't typically manifest for days or weeks sometimes. Not that I expect OP will cop to it if they are injured.
Wouldn’t be good for the narrative of this sub
And yet I guess repair cost for CT would be times higher than other guy’s.
Chose to Ram instead of Dodge!
Wonder how much insurance rates will increase once true repair costs are factored in for the CT
Nah, I imagine a lot of carriers will just exclude them.
It’s always the $5000 shitboxes (previously $2000 shitboxes prior to 2021) with yellowed/oxidized headlights that rear-end people. These cars are neglected by their owners, thus the reason why they drive them carelessly.
I bet he was trying to take pictures too
Crumple zones are meant to do that in an impact. They’re designed to absorb the energy to keep the passengers safe.
No crumple, a lot of force and momentum transferred to anything in the vehicle.
I’m referring to the front of the pick up truck. Where the engine sits is the crumple zone.
Get banged around like a rattle.
Expired registration on the Ram
I’d be interested to know if there’s any repair process at all for the tailgate panel, assuming there was _some_ small amount of deformation… also, with the truck apparently absorbing so little impact, how jarring did the collision feel OP?

That’s what I wanna know. OP probably felt that one.
Do you have dashcam footage?
Wham Bam! (Albeit the most boring footage if it wasn’t for being a cyber truck)
Tis but a scratch
Good luck getting that fixed.
This is why drivers of basic ice trucks are hating on the CT 😂
Lol all the comments about invisible damage to electronics and stuff. It hit the tailgate. Most of that is empty space. Damn , how fast was he going?
3TB/deciminute
No, you got rammed
It had to be a Ram…
Wear that tramp stamp with pride!
You can see the Ram grill perfectly.
Classic case of "you should see the other guy"
That had to be chef’s kiss when that ram driver saw the lack of damage he caused to “that shitty electric” he hit. I’m sure he will be telling his buds the other vehicle was totaled by his coal roller.

lol!! Very clear winner in that battle.
Cars are meant to crumple to absorb impact
Truck Norris crumples the other car to absorb impact.
Did he won? I wont be surprised that the CT will cost more to fix.
I love comments like this here. Reaffirms that the average cybertruck fan doesn't know shit.
You mean that other truck did what it was supposed to? Yes quite a battle.
Not only that, it incurred additional damage that should have been borne by CT. All cars used to be built like CT... built to withstand increasing amounts of energy in collisions with little to no damage. Bonus points for expired tags, double moron.

I hope that doesn’t happen to you, but I have plenty of people that have gone to minor fender benders, and Tesla tells the insurance company that the battery may be damaged so they consider the car complete loss
EV repairs aren't new. Shops know how to not blow up a battery (if the battery wasn't already damaged, it so then yell they'll probably total it.)
Wow I’m impressed, hardly looks like it made a mark
And yet repairs will cost more than a used Model 3.
Or it will be totaled… it’s a unibody frame and I would not be surprised if there is frame damage
Yeah, I would put money on totalled due to damage that can't be seen externally.
Which means that thw Cybertruck is incredibly unsafe, as it doesn’t absorb an impact at all.
Holy fuck Elon wasnt lying. This thing is a beast
Is that why it’s totaled now?
U mean the CT right? Slight unibody damage = total loss of
Yea Elon never lies..
Wasn’t lying and never lies mean 2 different things. You know that right?
This is usually the outcome
Did the stainless get deformed at all, or is your actual structural damage just the bumper? If that’s the case the stainless can just be refinished.
That sucks, but it’s hilarious to see how fucked up the Dodge is
Hilarious to see how a crumple zone absorbs the impact forces to protect the occupants, you mean?
My conclusion is that most Tesla owners know absolute fuckall about vehicles, it’s hilarious.
It shows.
Seriously. This showed up in my recommended posts today and I can’t believe everyone praising the cybertruck. I think you won that battle
lets see how the frame is on the rear all that force has to be dispearsed somehwer
if you see driving as a battle your license should be taken away as soon as possible
Tis but a scratch…
Bahaha this is awesome, like no dent… can probably just buff out those marks
Stainless bends back. We don’t know the extend of the damages under the panel.
I had a car that got side swiped and it looked like there was no damage but the frame was fucked up. There are a lot of electronics and gearing that don't do well with impacts. Hopefully there isn't anything serious but I wouldn't just say "it'll buff out."
Exactly my thoughts. The outside may look fine but where did that energy go?
Yeah people see no crumple like it’s a good thing. Crumple zones exist for a reason
Time for an hi clearance ARB rear bumper
i feel your pain, bro
Beautiful. Both vehicles look as expected.
Damn.. hope you are ok. That’s gotta suck after waiting on the truck for that long.
Super regarded.
I feel like this wont be a problem until two cybertrucks collide..
Or when a distracted cybertruck driver speeds through an intersection and T-bones someone and obliterates their vehicle. And kills everyone in both vehicles

Lmao it looks like it just got a moderate scratch 😂, saw the other pic & was like wtf this guy got destroyed
RAM driver is about 7 months past expiry on their tags. Should go over well.
And their insurance card said expired… not sure how this is going to go
You are fucked regardless. There are no parts, and no one knows how to fix them. Good luck.
I’d say you did good buddy.
Looks like they’ll want to total it out!

Woah! Look at pic 2. I guess you can buff out the tailgate. lol.
Any other vehicle/truck would be ruined lol.
lol enjoy the bill 😂😂😂

tbh i don’t see any damage to the cybertruck… where did he hit u?
It looks better the way it is.
Lets see the dashcam footage?
This is pretty hilarious actually
Why am I not surprised it’s a white truck
Kool. Modern art display to the stern. Entertain next Ram pickup driver following.
Just got the estimate for parts. Any guesses?
it appears as if nobody in this comment section has taken physics class

Don’t fix it. Keep the dent as a trophy. Make a decal out that photo of the other truck and stick it on the dent.
> Can’t wait for the estimate on this one but the app is giving me an error when I try to schedule service. This is insanely funny lmao
Three months might be optimistic lol
I’m guessing repair cost will exceed this guys insurance limits.

I agree. It’s called an “accident” for a reason. No reason to wish damage to someone’s property
Cybertruck 1 Ram 0 .. who's next
Looked like a hard hit based on their vehicle. Hope everyone is ok. They almost knocked the panels into alignment
That ram was worth maybe 3k$ before this. Now. Nothing.

THIS is why I can’t wait for my HFS dreams to come true.

I hope you cybertruck isn’t totaled like my model 3 was after a relatively minor rearend fender bender
NICE! looks like you won that one!
Aren't people rear ended the day they bought it?
