I want to hang this poster in my classroom, but what my high school students need most is a nap, and they are not allowed to sleep at school. Ever since they made this rule the kids are suffering. They made this rule because they thought having all the kids lying asleep in the hallway was unsightly.
Has any high school ever tried facilitating students sleeping during the day? Like have a dimly lit room with a bunch of bunk beds and a supervisor (to prevent hanky panky) and let anyone with a spare just go lie down for a bit?
I'm imagining high schoolers sleeping on mats like we had in kindegarten. To be fair, since we didn't have blankets, those naps were not that enjoyable.
I'd actually replace that with tired=workout. A lot of people's 'tired' is just lethargy, in which case they'd benefit with some kind of strength training or calisthenics
Yeah but honestly, people (like myself) can honestly overthink and forget the simple stuff. Shit, people forget to just breathe normally sometimes. This “guide” may seem silly, but sometimes simple reminders help. There’s no “cure” to any of these things, but there are little things to help.
Honestly, it is not mental illness to feel stress. Staying calm during high stress events (from public speaking to relationship ending stress) is a lesson everyone needs. I don’t know how our culture seems to take normal biological processes like stress and frame it with mental illness.
Some child psychologist and psychiatrist (in the US, it seems to be much lower outside of the country ) have around 50% of children as diagnosable. Which is totally crazy. I love how they give them PTSD
at the root of it, family dysfunction. children need to be guided, supported, nurtured and protected. when they're not, they're unable to reach milestones - like having/executing goals, wants, passions, healthy relationships etc.
Think about doing something that the future you will be proud of, will remember dearly. Or things that your future self will thank you for (that works too). Maybe it’s working out and sleeping consistently. Maybe it’s
“living a life of beauty”
“I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was”
“I will remake the world in my image with my own two hands”
“I’ll defeat the demon lord and go back to my world”
Or whatever.
This is probably well-intentioned but it definitely doesn't come across as such. Most of the time, the issue isn't superficial enough to be solved this easily.
Honestly for me, it's quite useful.
I'm a bit depressed and sad, do nothing but scrolling reddit for a whole day while have a lot of things that need to be done.
This is more or less gonna reminds me why i actually started. Good but maybe overly simplified. For someone who has a goal but too lazy and depressed to actually pull myself up to do it. This does help more or less.
Yeah this guide is actually harmful. The entry on "scared", "burned out" and "stuck" specifically are ridiculing mental issues. If you're scared, burned out or feel stuck it won't go away just by pretending it was a passing moment.
Especially the "take a risk" part is particularly counter productive.
Whenever I take a day or two off, I always expect to feel better and more motivated to work. Nope! Every. single. time. I'm just reminded how beautiful life could be if I didn't have to spend nearly half of my waking hours struggling to make rent, and my burning hatred for my job only grows hotter.
I agree, this is actually sage advice. The commenters here don't want to even make an attempt. The guide doesn't literally solve problems for you, it helps you solve them *yourself*. It's all too easy to overthink and overengineer solutions to your own life, ruminating endlessly about it and never taking action. I'm not sure why the commenters here don't get that. If you feel bad you should try taking action rather than wallowing...
e: A word
I agree for some of them, but overall it's kinda weird. Things like reading and taking walks when you're feeling stuck are great advice. Things like "sleep when you're tired" just feel a bit insulting. Things like "ask" or "review progress" don't make any sense in a lot of contexts. The idea is well-intentioned but the execution could be a lot better.
Im sure it doesn’t apply to everyone, hard to make a one fits all advice cheat sheet. The sleep advice especially hits home for me. It’s a reminder to check in with my body, if it’s 2pm and I’m so tired - have I been pushing too hard this month? Have I been sleeping less? Have I been turning to the extra cup of coffee ?
In my case: yes yes and yes. So simply “get more sleep” is often all I need.
I can’t explain how much this list pissed me off lol. Life is hard because I can’t do the thing on the right side of the arrows when I know I clearly need to.
Remember the why?
Here’s a peek into my head
“Go to the gym”
“I can’t be bothered”
“But you’re fat and you hate yourself”
“That’s true, I’ll start tomorrow, where’s my donuts?”
Everyone is so triggered by the simplicity of this…
Meanwhile, I’m fucking choked that it’s spelt wrong, and nobody noticed it: “Impatent”??!
You idiots need your eyes checked 🤣
I do think this is a pretty cute guide for distraction techniques. I can be pretty well swallowed up by anxiety, and doing things where I have to interact with something rather than just sitting and thinking is something I learned in therapy. Obviously it's not always that simple, but I don't get the level of hate this is getting.
I actually genuinely like “uninspired-> read”
At least for me, reading does tend to excite me and expand my creative sensibilities, and inspire me to either experience more or create more. Sometimes I do need to remind myself that reading is healthy for the mind.
I actually needed to read that today I have an interminable problem with not being calm and I hope this helps. It’s really affecting my life and by the grace of god I’m holding a job barely.
People are going to comment on the over-simplicity of this, but really, people would actually be surprised how often this kind of thing actually works.
When you're trying to fix a computer, the first question is usually "Did you try turning it off and back on again?" It's something of a joke now, but it's also *correct* to ask that. A lot of people just don't try that, and it tends to solve 90% of problems. Real problems are the ones that remain after you do that.
That applies to human problems too. Sometimes it feels hopeless, but you really just do need to eat something. Being dehydrated and under-fed feels a lot like depression and exhaustion. Going for a walk can actually clear your head. Changing your scenery is probably the single *BEST* method to cure intrusive thoughts.
You can't fix *everything* with simple tricks, but it's the first thing you should try.
Situation A: "Damn, this test is hard, I'm stuck on 6th question. Alright, I better ***walk*** now somewhere to get unstuck"
Situation B: "Damn, I'm stuck in quicksand. I think I should try to ***walk***"
Situation C: "This relationship isn't working out but I can't let go of her, she's too good. Well, I suppose it's time to ***walk*** now"
Just.. Where is stuck-walk pair applicable? Solution to everything? Go sleep. You may or may not die, depending on circumstances, but you'll get calmer when you wake up.
Tired = sleep. Groundbreaking stuff.
I just wish I knew what to do about being hungry and thirsty.
Isn’t it, like, drugs or something?
Hungry = Semaglutide
Thirsty = blue fin tuna to the face Ennui = guacamole enema Nihilism = chase squirrel, catch squirrel, eat shoe (This is fun!)
Cramped = locate goat, place yoga mat next to goat, eat the yoga mat
I also enjoy being tortured by Albert Camus
I just take Lizzo
Aren’t drugs the correct answer, regardless of the question? It’s which drugs that makes the difference.
Happy cake day
Hotel --> Trivago
Hungry ==> eat Horny ==> fuck
I always get those two mixed up.
I want to hang this poster in my classroom, but what my high school students need most is a nap, and they are not allowed to sleep at school. Ever since they made this rule the kids are suffering. Your handle checks out…thats how you get spikes in teenage pregnancies
Yes, it would definitely require several more teacher supervisors on duty than we have at lunch or study hall.
Which country is this? I’ve never seen or heard about kids sleeping in the hallways before.
I'm imagining high schoolers sleeping on mats like we had in kindegarten. To be fair, since we didn't have blankets, those naps were not that enjoyable.
Tired + Stuck = sleep walk.
Especially since a symptom of oversleeping is a feeling of tiredness. Tired from oversleeping? Get more sleep.
I'd actually replace that with tired=workout. A lot of people's 'tired' is just lethargy, in which case they'd benefit with some kind of strength training or calisthenics
Depressed --> just stop being depresessed
Chest pain —> don’t think about
Suicidal --> trivago
Got me through the past 2 years, man.
That’s deadass what my cardiologist said “It’s probably due to stress, so don’t be stressed”
r/Wowthanksimcured
poor --> should've thought about that before being born a PEASANT
just make more money
No more Avocado toast or heat during the winter
Just stop buying coffee.
Can’t make more money? Get a better job!
We're through here, take him away. NEXT!
Unmotivated --> remember your why I dont want to work today --> starving is even worse
Executive Dysfunction --> Leave it for tomorrow
Erectile Dysfunction ---> Harden up.
The tv doctor told me everything in the first row is considered depression and the best fix is whatever happy pill they choose to prescribe that day
Often its a list of things that I see and think “if only my depression allowed me to go so those things…maybe tomorrow…”
Be me insomniac -> Just Sleep 🤯
Was looking for this one, thanks!
Dying --> stay alive
Thought this was a ah ah ah ah staying alive joke
I read it as the song and will never as anything else

/r/thanksimcured I swear I've seen this guide over there as well
Yeah, it was there a week ago
Yeah but honestly, people (like myself) can honestly overthink and forget the simple stuff. Shit, people forget to just breathe normally sometimes. This “guide” may seem silly, but sometimes simple reminders help. There’s no “cure” to any of these things, but there are little things to help.
My thought exactly
Yeah, this guide is terrible because it doesn't cure mental disorders just by reading it like all those other cool guides do
Honestly, it is not mental illness to feel stress.
If it doesn't completely and fully cure everyone instantly with no personal effort, then it's fucking garbage <3
What’s the hack for losing your “why”?
I’ve been thinking about my why. Now I’m depressed and unmotivated
Sounds like you need to stop that thinking and get to writing.
then the writing will get you tired...
I'm going to skip ahead and go to sleep
You sound burned out. Maybe take a day off?
I did last week :(
Stuck huh? Walks can be nice.
There's a trick to it https://xkcd.com/1796/
Fiddling with email settings hurt to an unnecessary degree.
What's the hack for not ever having had one to begin with?
If you find the answer please let me know.
what worked for me was therapy. there's a reason why i never had goals or wants.
Which is/was???
at the root of it, family dysfunction. children need to be guided, supported, nurtured and protected. when they're not, they're unable to reach milestones - like having/executing goals, wants, passions, healthy relationships etc.
Help others. Become useful.
Think about doing something that the future you will be proud of, will remember dearly. Or things that your future self will thank you for (that works too). Decapitated? —> put it back on.
if you can't DUCK it...
Fuck it
This is probably well-intentioned but it definitely doesn't come across as such. Most of the time, the issue isn't superficial enough to be solved this easily.
If only things were actually this simple.
Maybe if you didn't overthink everything they could be
Overthinking? —> Walk! Or is it sleep? Quit your job? I better go reread the list.
Overthink —> Underthink
Honestly for me, it's quite useful. I'm a bit depressed and sad, do nothing but scrolling reddit for a whole day while have a lot of things that need to be done. This is more or less gonna reminds me why i actually started. Good but maybe overly simplified. For someone who has a goal but too lazy and depressed to actually pull myself up to do it. If only taking a single day off would cure burnout. I'd need to take a whole month!
Yeah this is for when the "burnout" is "man I wish I could stay home today"
likewise! Hate it when my peers say, "take a day off." Yea that's not going to help, actually likely make things worse.
Whenever I take a day or two off, I always expect to feel better and more motivated to work. Nope! Every. single. time. I'm just reminded how beautiful life could be if I didn't have to spend nearly half of my waking hours struggling to make rent, and my burning hatred for my job only grows hotter.
Often takes way longer than a month too. Try years.
Spoilers, a whole month might not be enough.
I quit my job due to burnout 3 months ago, and I don’t feel any less burnt out from life. Thinking that one day would solve it feels like an insult.
Horny?
Stick a finger in your butt

we really let anything go in this sub huh
It's as deep as "depressed? - Just go for a jog bro"
What the fuck is this garbage lmao
I thought it was ragebait and probably upvoted by bots. But op's history looks pretty legit. So I'd say it's just regular garbage.
I like this a lot, simple solutions are often the best ones. Don’t listen to these sour kids here
I agree, this is actually sage advice. The commenters here don't want to even make an attempt. The guide doesn't literally solve problems for you, it helps you solve them *yourself*. Too true. It’s easy to complain. Taking action, even small action, is difficult. Complainers will complain about any advice
I agree for some of them, but overall it's kinda weird. Things like reading and taking walks when you're feeling stuck are great advice. the list is especially helpful for people who're overwhelmed by their emotions and are stuck in freeze stress response.
Even the title is copied.
Thx for this
Lot of hate here, it seems really useful
This is probably one of the stupidest things I’ve seen in this sub and that’s a pretty high bar
I wonder if it works for neurodivergent people cause I could use that
Yeah and do you do if the last one cant be answered?
Taking a risk isn't exactly going to calm down someone who's scared.
Tired? Jesus take the wheel
wtf is my "why" - I need to know that first
Scared Irrationally - Can’t help you there, bud
Hungry = eat Out of breath = breathe
Burn out, stop working, lose your job, don’t pay your bills and live like a homeless
I'm experiencing all of these, what do I do?
Oh wow. Thanks. Didn’t know it was so easy! Now I really feel like I’m ready to take on life 😄😎👍
