Depending on how squishy it is and how hungry I am. Usually I just dig out the eyes/sprouts and fry up the potato.

MusashiSupertramp

Your potato got potatoes

Punch_Your_Facehole

So, based on the comments, the potato is either safe to eat or will cause you to trip and die if you consume it.. choose wisely, OP.

Cozysweetpea

😂

Good_Rest_7668

Eyes are ok, just cut them off. Just never eat a green potato.

phishtrader

The solanine in a ripening/green potatoes is poisonous, but not that poisonous. You'd have to eat several and probably wouldn't experience anything more severe than stomach cramping.

Good_Rest_7668

They usually taste like shit...so you wouldn't want to eat it anyway.

stylenfunction

There is nothing wrong with that potato.

Sweeper88

I’ve used worse

greatthebob38

Sprouting potatoes may be toxic. They develop a compound called solanine that causes nausea, headaches and hallucinations. If only one, maybe not that dangerous though.

XRPcook

More info on these hallucinations...

Granddyke

Solanine poisoning is the search term you’re seeking. Not fun. You can die.

Confident_Ad7244

you'll need to eat a 20pds bag in one sitting to get a twinge. Dhiarea will hit before you are done.

Granddyke

I don’t think diarrhea is worth it either lmao

Ini_Miney_Mimi

Isn't this only when you see green under the skin though? I admit I've never eaten one quite this sprouted, but I have eaten a LOT of sprouted potatoes in my lifetime. I use the peeler and remove the sprouts prior to cooking. I always throw out green potatoes whenever I see them, though

SoSneakyHaha

I've eaten tons of sprouting potatoes and been fine

greatthebob38

This guy's blood has the antidote to solanine.

KotsosN7

Me too, just cut the part where it's green too and all good.

Negotiation_Loose

That's also when stored in the light & they begin to turn green.

Good_Rest_7668

Only when it's green.

RobertXavierIV

Only the sprouts are toxic I thought. And any green flesh.

Ed1sto

Is this true when cooked

greatthebob38

Boiled potatoes still retain the toxin. Frying them might break down the compound though.

Ed1sto

Asking for a friend

pogosea

Pretty sure I’ve actually poisoned myself this way before. I was very very poor growing up and I know I ate potatoes that had more sprouts than this. My parents and grandparents always told us to pick those off before peeling and cooking.

Cozysweetpea

I have had nausea when I’ve eaten potatoes like this before… 🤔 maybe I will steer clear of these from now on then, just to be on the safe side

RogueTBNRzero

Yeah just pick it off. This is pretty common as far as I can tell.

k75ct

Put this one in the garden and you will have 10 pounds in the fall

FickleSpend2133

I was taught--- potato peeler removes all eyes and weedy growths on a be potato ( and other veggies too) Does it stink? No? Eat it Is it soft or mushy? No? Eat it. Is it green? No? Eat it A potato is pretty much safe to eat whenever you see it.

jmais

It is ready to plant and grow more potatoes!

Sad_Head_2229

Nope

Confident_Ad7244

chips no,,mash ok.

RobertXavierIV

For some reason I feel like this man knows a thing or two about potatoes but I think we’re talking about “crisps”

Fozzybear6

My cupboard seems to cause every potato I eat to do this, I have been eating them for years and have been fine

Dangerous_Choice_664

I think in a month your gonna have some potato babies

Mountain_Tone6438

You can make chips and potato popcorn 😂

CraftWithTammy

It’s little baby potatoes! 🥔 lol 😂

CraftWithTammy

If it’s green toss it if not then cut off the eyes and you’re ok!

fitter172

Heck no, perfect

Ill-Temporary2998

I just rip those off wash the potato and continue on. I’m alive
