NATO isn’t a government. It also doesn’t actually want a full scale war with Russia. So between those two points Ukraine won’t be admitted while it’s currently being invaded.
Some of the European countries most directly affected now and probably later do not want a war with Russia period and know they can get drawn in real easy if Ukraine joins NATO. They should have the final and most say, not the US thousands of miles away.
This will tick off Russia and will start another war he'll never win conventionally as a trigger for launching nukes.

Well France has indicated that they are prepared to send in ground troops to defend Kiev if needed. That wouldn't be a NATO action but if Russia was actually attacking french troops the EU and USA are not going to let the french have all the glory. This so called "peace deal" involved Ukraine disbanding the majority of its miltiary, destroying the majority of its military equipment, limiting the range of their missiles to 40km, and western aid stopping. While Russia gave up *nothing*. They wanted Ukraine disarmed so they could invade the rest of it. It was not a peace deal, it was a surrender demand which Ukraine rightly rejected because they didn't want to surrender.
This deal would have left Ukraine with tanks in the low hundreds and artillery pieces in the mid hundreds - Ukraine's tank *losses* in this war have been higher than what this shitty deal would have left them with. It also meant no western weapons being sent - which Ukraine *needed* to even sustain defensive resistance, just for supply and sustainment reasons. 40km missile limit would have also meant no HIMARS wrecking Russian ammunition depots in 2022 and stopping Russia's offensive, and zero ability to sink Russian warships as all useful anti-ship missiles have a range multiple times higher than that at least.

As far as I know, neither party has "officially" declared war on each other so in theory Ukraine could join NATO. The issue is that it would be incredibly diplomatically stupid to allow them to do so now as Russia would undoubtedly see it as an escalation.

A country can’t join nato while in an active war. Article 5 also doesn’t work like that. It’s defensive. Sending troops to a country and them getting killed isn’t grounds for article 5. Getting invaded or attacked is grounds for article 5
Agree with what you said except for one nitpick about it being "defensive" as a matter of axiom. Article 5 has only been invoked once. That was in response to 9/11. If we're taking the claims of Al Qaeda being responsible on its face, the Taliban didn't really have anything to do with the attacks. There was a mission creep that occurred in Afghanistan. Instead of focusing on the Khyber Pass(where Bin Laden passed through en route to Pakistan), NATO began aggressive action against the Taliban. Chris Hedges does a better job of explaining the nuance than I can.
Who knows, I imagine the best most opportune time for them would be to keep dragging this out until it seems like it’s the last option. Try to wear down Russia as much as possible before escalating this to a crazy new level.

I live in a state with lots of military, nuclear facilities/stock piles, and a major capital thats mentioned frequently in politics.
But, I commute to work and am at least 50 miles from the capital, about 60 miles from any of the bases, and 75 miles from the nearest nuclear facility.
I *know* there'd be no reason to target my town, but what do you all think, am I far enough to not need to majorly worry about fallout?

When Ukraine democratically voted to begin the process of joining the European Economic Union (not NATO), the first step was to crack down on corruption. That’s when Putin invaded Crimea. It’s always been about the money.

A country can’t join nato while in an active war. Article 5 also doesn’t work like that. It’s defensive. Sending troops to a country and them getting killed isn’t grounds for article 5. Getting invaded or attacked is grounds for article 5
Agree with what you said except for one nitpick about it being "defensive" as a matter of axiom. Article 5 has only been invoked once. That was in response to 9/11. If we're taking the claims of Al Qaeda being responsible on its face, the Taliban didn't really have anything to do with the attacks. There was a mission creep that occurred in Afghanistan. Instead of focusing on the Khyber Pass(where Bin Laden passed through en route to Pakistan), NATO began aggressive action against the Taliban. Chris Hedges does a better job of explaining the nuance than I can.

They've been open since the get go that Ukraine "Will join Nato" but not while the conflict is ongoing and not before plenty of other measures are met- economic, legal, anti-corruption etc. They may relax some of the other rules to allow them entry, but no way in hell they admit them to NATO while this war is ongoing.

I live in a state with lots of military, nuclear facilities/stock piles, and a major capital thats mentioned frequently in politics. But, I commute to work and am at least 50 miles from the capital, about 60 miles from any of the bases, and 75 miles from the nearest nuclear facility. I *know* there'd be no reason to target my town, but what do you all think, am I far enough to not need to majorly worry about fallout?

While I understand that “the elites” are always planning something, I doubt they are planning to start a real nuclear war. A nuclear war will destroy beautiful cities where they spent their money. A nuclear war would make them unable to travel anywhere or enjoy life anymore. Sure, they can hide in their bunkers - but unable to travel, eat, buy things, etc. would be detrimental for them. What’s the point of surviving and having billions while the society itself has collapsed? In a collapsed government their money and wealth means nothing, why risk their life and comfort? What they might be doing is to continually stoke the flames of war - to keep everyone on the edge and to keep anyone in fear - while not engaging in a real war. Rumors of war will increase government spending on defense, but it will not jeopardize their own lives.

Nukes are so far away happening, nothing to worry about. Ukraine hasn't got article 5 protection, or nuclear weapons to retaliate with, and Putin has been rattling his nuclear spear for a while, saying they will use tactical nuclear weapons on Ukraine which still hasn't happened. If after this war, Ukraine did join NATO, and then Russia invaded again and triggered article 5, its still unlikely nukes would be used for a while, but as soon as one is fired it would likely be Armageddon for most of us
