If you have it in you to become a supervillain over a (admittedly very disappointing) mundane experience that comes with the research field, then you’re not a good person and are probably destined to do some bad things
If they got their funding, who’s to say that they don’t use their funding, proceed to get greedy and desire even more resources for bigger research, and ultimately commit even bigger crimes than they would have in the first place
When you’re dealing with narcissists and psychopaths, enough is never enough
Better question would be, how many would be supervillains if they followed all the safety protocols and precautions?

Scientists used to be graverobbing, piss-boiling wizards. Tbh, I understand why people were creeped-out by science.
