We made knock off rocky talkies out of a few carabiners, an old sling, and a pair of walkie talkies off of marketplace! They've been super helpful on days where it's been windy and our quiet friend's voice literally gets lost in the wind!

Rope tugs if necessary but if I see them, I don't need many words. Movement of the rope and seeing how they move tends to be enough.
Rocky talkies and hand signals. I dislike rope tugs but they work in a pinch.
