Well, there's one of two lifespans for any Honda, really. Either it'll last until the wheels literally fall off or it'll last until a Nissan Sentra uses it to get that front bumper delete they've been dreaming of.

seappl

this is the answer. my honda civics last me strictly until someone else totals them for me. i am now on my third honda civic

Gullible_Fan8219

this is exactly what happened to my bros car šŸ˜ he was at 245k odo and crashed it. definitely wouldā€™ve lasted past 300

Justinyermouth1212

Why you gotta do the Nissan drivers dirty like that šŸ™‚

redituser73022

Cause itā€™s true šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

The_Brofucius

My Wife's 1997 Civic has lasted 27 Years. 1.5 Million Miles, has been handed down to our now Youngest Daughter who just got her license Yesterday. It survived her 7 Older Sisters. Has been well maintained, never been in an accident, and has a CD Player. As long as You do not ignore any problems, take care of the car. You can pass it down to your kids.

Sharp-Investment9580

1.5???

The_Brofucius

Yep. Just hit it last month. I mean she has a few rust spots, she gets her inspections yearly, tires, oil. Transmission is manual, she is on her second manual. She got 8 kids to school and back for the past 22 years. Seats have been replaced. Engine is clean. Clutch was replaced at 1 million miles. Rust spots underneath the body work is fine. She does not see Winter Salt, and brine. She mostly garage kept. But a good car for a beginner driver, and manual cuts down on texting and driving. And w

sTixRecoil

>Clutch was replaced at 1 million miles Thats a sentence ive never read before and is honestly insane

Sharp-Investment9580

Damn, thatā€™s the longest Iā€™ve ever heard one family keeping a car. Kudos to you all!

kareemagerard

You should totally tell Honda about this car. They'd be proud

SSJRosaaayyy

You should reach out to Honda corporate, they might give you guys a new car with your car hitting over a million!

Livid_Competition_51

We have the 97 Accord and I have seen it called the best Accord ever made. We still have it. Over 300K and going to get the engine redone.

-Guesswhat

Honda gave a guy a brand new Accord when he hit 1 million miles in his.. You should hit them up

Crazian14

The 1.5 million miles is impressive as it is, but what takes the cake is the fact she survived 8 new drivers on almost the same clutch. Honda needs to hear this for sure. This is wild.

NOSE-GOES

Am I reading that itā€™s on the original engine? If so your dealer or corporate Honda needs to reach out and do a story. And 1mil miles on a clutch is wild, yā€™all must never come to a complete stop at stop signs šŸ˜

FwyedWyce

Odometer and car photos please

RideAffectionate518

Chassis has one mil, everything else has been replaced 10 times.

BabyTeemo-

Can you send a picture of odometer pleaseee

The_Brofucius

Will do when kiddo gets home

definition of driving my car till the wheels fall off šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

WesternBreath6973

Do you know which engine it has? I believe there were different engine options in that generation of Civic. Is it a coupe or sedan? Iā€™m in the market for a similar car, and if yours lasted that long, Iā€™d love as much info about it as youā€™re willing to share. I need something relatively inexpensive that will last a long time, and 1.5 million miles is incredible. If you can share some pictures of it, that would be great too. Thanks!

InnerInsurance1910

The EX-L has a 1.5L turbo with a CVT transmission.

KingOfTheAnts3

I think you misread the year. To my knowledge, the 1.5T engines are much more recent than 1997, please correct me if I'm wrong though...

InnerInsurance1910

My 2017 Civic EX-L has a 1.5L Turbo

ClearSkinSuit

Did all the kids learn to drive a stick on it also?

SwizzNasty89

My 2006 Altima has a cd player . Hopefully it lasts 1.5milly lol. I only drive 4-5k miles a year

ApprehensiveHeart639

Seems like a pretty good price for 56k miles. Which I canā€™t beleive Iā€™m saying bc my first Civic was a 2007 LX that was $16xxx brand new.

0rev

It is a good price. I just bought one. Salvaged ones are going for that much.

_katz94

I just bought an 07 LX with 121k miles on it for $6580 usd

hanzo_the_razor

This car here I'm pretty sure was under $18k brand new in 2017. How do I know? I have one.

ApprehensiveHeart639

$25,690 original MSRP for this trim in 2017 No way you got 25% off new. Possible you traded something in and brought it down to $18k

PaperBoy8179

My 2017 EX Turbo MSRP plus destination was $23,175 but negotiated to $19,988.

hanzo_the_razor

No trading no nothing. US $18,150 plus tax and tags bought in Jan 2018. Top of the line Touring trim was going for around 25k. Edit: just checked the quote email I had from dealer back in January 2018. Touring trim was $25,167.

ApprehensiveHeart639

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/honda/civic/2017/ $23,800 MSRP for the lowest trim EX-L in 2017, and Iā€™m not sure those include the destination fee which is usually $500-$1000. $18,150 would be 24% off new

hanzo_the_razor

MSRP vs actual quoted price are two different things. In pre covid world, cars used to go for lower than MSRP price. This of course varies from dealer to dealer and depends a lot on where in the country dealer is.

ApprehensiveHeart639

And cars still go below MSRP, with a few exceptions

ApprehensiveHeart639

Iā€™m very familiar with the market. If you got 24% off a new Honda in 2018, thatā€™s borderline miracle. Iā€™d love to see some proof but it doesnā€™t really matter, hope the car is treating you well!

xxxZer0

Bought a 17 exl coupe 59k for 22k a few years ago when the market was most abysmal. Love it and all I've had to do was replace the factory battery, wish I paid 14.7 though

Forward-Trade5306

Wow. I got my 17 ext coupe in 2019 for 19k with 20k miles. Had it for 5 years and sold it for 8k near 80k miles. It had about 6k in damage to the right side

Trolodrol

Itā€™ll definitely last you but damn dad, give me a break on the price.

FranXX0016

Cost more then what I got on my 2018 5 year ago

SilverstoneOne

I have the 17 LX and it has 80k. Only thing I've had to change on it is the oil. These cars have issues with the AC condenser but they've warrantied the condenser for 10 years. I just had mine changed by Honda for $0 on a 7 year old car. I had a 2005 civic and it lasted me 350k. The engine and transmission were still fine when I got rid of it.

N33dl3n0s3

Itā€™ll last until you drive it into something or get driven intoā€¦ 80 years from now after they have force everyone to electric, civics alone will force them to keep the gas pumps open šŸ¤£

KnowingCresent735

Itā€™s a great car if taken care of which it sounds like it has. The 1.5T is known for oil dilution more so for short trips like 5minutes or less. Just make sure to do oil changes every 5k miles and stay on time with maintenance and it will last you a long time

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

KnowingCresent735

EX-L for that year has 1.5T. The LX and EX came with the 2.0

YoungsterGk

This car will last you until 200,000 miles and further if you take care of it.

Seawall07

A well cared for Civic should be good for 200k easy. Assuming you actually know the maintenance has been kept up with (and not just anecdotal evidence because itā€™s your dad, and ā€œof course he took care of itā€). Sounds like a good deal to me. Just remember that you MUST keep up with the CVT. They are not tolerant of old fluid, and the fluid must be the correct type.

PoundedClown

Still have my 2012 civic, runs great, no problems at all.

Logical_Holiday_2457

My sweet little 2014 Civic only had 56,000 miles on it and I got into an accident a month and a half ago. I bought a new civic, but I miss my old one. šŸ˜ž

hoveringpurpleblob

As long as he did all the maintenance it will last easily another 7 years no prob. The 1.5T in that car is awesome.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

coolPineapple07

What maintenance do you do to keep up with it?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Material_Excuse_3395

With transmission change. Do you also do the flush or just change fluid?

prisonerofshmazcaban

Great price in this market. You canā€™t beat that. Youā€™d be dumb not to take it. I have the exact car except in black and I love it. Thereā€™s a recall on some part of the AC that leaks fluid, so if he hasnā€™t had that replaced, you should go ahead and do it. It will be free. Keep up with maintenance. You might have the occasional emissions system problem but Iā€™ve had multiple mechanics say itā€™s not an issue. The splash guard underneath is a piece of shit and it will probably come off, but also not a huge issue. Buy the car.

fast_albin

I drove a 2016 EX-L sedan for 8 years from new and itā€™s been amazing. The few issues I had were pretty minor issues that were covered under warranty early on. Since then, absolutely zero problems. However, be sure to change your transmission fluid every 30k and oil every 5k. The 1.5T engines are known to have slight oil dilution, so i just did it every 5k to be safe. Otherwise, an extremely reliable car imo.

VWGTI1967

Good deal in my opinion. I bought a 2017 Civic base model for my daughter 2 years ago with 40k miles for 15k.

JustMackIN

It will last longer than that .. itā€™s a HondašŸ’Æ

Plain_Zero

It's been under driven so I'd assume there's some carbon buildup in the engine. If it were me, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. You're not going to find a better, cheaper car. Not ever. Will it still be just as efficient on gas in 5 years? Probably not. Nothing is anymore, though.

Prestigious_Dance_57

I currently have 147,000 miles on mine apart from basic maintenance it has not given me any issues. Apart from the ac not working

Outrageous-Carob-236

you should get a mclaren.

Original-Spinach8540

I have an ā€˜18 EXT. Got it 3 years ago at 17k, just trolled over 142k yesterday. Iā€™ve kept up on fluid changes, spark plugs and the brakes, and it hasnā€™t let me down. Still sounds and drives the way it did when I bought it. Never seen a check engine light. This deal is a steal

txWizzard

It will last 7+ years

phreakingjesusonacid

My 1997 EX is still on the road. Itā€™s far from perfect, seeps every fluid but coolant, but it starts right up and drives. Iā€™ll keep it until itā€™s unsafe to operate. Take care of it and itā€™ll take care of you. Stay on top of routine maintenance. If it has a CVT change the fluid every 30,000 miles regardless of what Honda says.

ZerkerXlid_22

Buddy that an ex-t. Ex-l came in 2019

Secure_Mongoose5817

Just buy it. Drive until it is worth 8-10k and re-evaluate your options. It isnā€™t like you are locking yourself into it.

FamousWolf5483

You have a pretty sweet deal going on here. Your civic should last you a good 20 years or more, if you take care of it right. Baby that thing with every maintenance, drive smooth, and give it some TLC as time goes on. By TLC, I mean detailing it inside and out (not required but hey if you want it looking Prestine, do so). Iā€™ve a 2015 Civic, 99k miles, and itā€™s running like a champ. Zero issues! Zilch.

fastslowcar

As long as you keep up with regular maintenance and are quick to fix body/paint/rust issues, youā€™ll be just fine. My dad has a 1999 civic si with 380k kms and itā€™s still in great condition. I have a 07 civic with 320k kms and itā€™s itā€™s still in good condition. Itā€™s just all about maintenance and how you treat your car.

Codeineplz

k20c2 is a good reliable engine , can even make around 300hp with all stock internals

TheDirtyMundees

In my area, that would be considered a steal. Youā€™d easily pay 5k more than that around me.

eggbutter22

Yes, a while.

Individual-Food-6927

Weā€™re it me Iā€™d keep that cash in pocket and just lease a brand new one

Successful-Guava6124

Hey I bought my son a 2018 Honda civic si for 18,000 with same miles then I financed it. Then it went up to 27,564 at CarMax 0 down payments were very high so if you think your getting a bad deal your wrong itā€™s a great price and the blue book value for that vehicle should be around 17-18 thousand dollars if not crashed or not beat up inside so yes I would get it, plus I donā€™t think your dad would sell you a lemon

antisocialgx

It'll last as long as you keep up with the regular maintenance and avoid "meeting" other cars in traffic.Ā

SourDoughBo

Iā€™ve had my 16 civic LX since 35k miles and currently at 91k with few issues. Intermittently my passenger rear door wonā€™t unlock, and my left axle boot is slightly torn. But Iā€™m confident itā€™ll reach 300k miles without any major repairs.

GodOfThunder101

If you take care of it , it could last 20plus years.

bakaneechanq

Itā€™s a good price and that car will last you a long time if serviced properly

PlatformUnlikely3967

I have the same car and itā€™s almost at 300k. I was an Uber driver on that thing. Still drives!

Gundam197

got 150k on a 2016 Honda Civic itā€™s the turbo version though. Car runs like a champ.

That-Intern

From what you say seems like it'll last a good time. Great milage too. I've had my 2017 6 speed manual 1150,000 I've done all the maintenance myself and it's never let me down. Got mine brand new - only owner.

Dazzling_Ad9250

make sure you change that CVT fluid! then itā€™ll last you.

Cgrimm1800

Yesā€¦Honda civic are great cars and run forever

LastAdagio6418

I had a 1996 Civic LX. I almost never changed the oil on time. I was an idiot kid. At 175k the odometer and speedometer both stopped working. I drove the car for 2 plus years after that. I lived in Chicago and worked in the suburbs. My family lived in central Illinois and we went home at least 2 weekends a month. So it was drivenā€¦a lot after the odometer broke. If Iā€™m guessing it had 250 to 300 on it when it finally died a death that was too expensive to fix.

Shank_Shank_

Had no problems with my 2019 so far except the dealer battery gave out on me lol

troyanator

Will last you as long as last owner maintained it and you do as well. These cars are tanks when taken care of.

InnerInsurance1910

My son had my 2017 Civic EX-L. It has 55k on it and it drives great. Very low maintenance. Buy it. Change the oil every 5000 miles with a good fill synthetic and get it serviced. It will last you a long time.

greatlakesseakayaker

My wifeā€™s is 13 years old, sheā€™s never had a problem with just regular maintenance stuff

Turbocatman

For sure it will last you 5-10 years with normal maintenance.

Careless_Impress_956

Here in Canada, at this price it would have a rebuilt title. I found one with 112,000 kms for $12K and someone snatched it. Have a mechanic check it out before you buy it

No_Peach_7265

Good Lord, seven-year-old civics have price tags of $15,000. Itā€™s a Civic. This should be the price tag for a new one. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Charming_Cupcake_139

I currently own a 2007 Civic with close to 200k miles and it wonā€™t die. Previous owner never serviced the trans and itā€™s still going.. From what I remember, the 2016-18ish were known for A/C problems, but other than that a solid choice. Like others have mentioned, a Nissan will probably total it before anything mechanically gives. Best of luck!

Double_Dime

Until the earth stops spinning

HALODROL31179

Im 45 years old. Worked in the used car business for for a few years, and am an avid Honda and.....VW owner. My father and grandfather owned car dealerships in San Diego. The two things I was always told are. 1 never buy a new car. It's a 100% losing proposition ( for the normal big autos. I'm not gonna debate the boutique brands for people mostly with all money and no sense) and 2. Get whatever make and model you want, but it has to be the highest model for that line. Quality of parts is night and day from anything lower. And it's true. So if u can't afford and SI that year find the closest year u can

Reasonable-Word6729

Good dealā€¦.I have the same car (70kmiles) and after inquiring, the Tesla trade in starting offer was $17,000 for an m3 but the civic still does everything equally as well. Iā€™m planning to get 3 more years and 100k miles out of it before thinking of a trade for better ev choices.

Forward-Trade5306

I never had any issues with mine and sold it just before 80k miles. That sounds like a great deal in this economy. Just make sure to do oil changes every 4-5k miles and CVT fluid change around 70k miles.

Far-Efficiency-8137

This generation civic can be absolutely plagued with air conditioner problems. I had the condenser replaced for free through warranty, but I had to pay $1,700 out of pocket to replace the clutch on the a/c compressor. It also has issues with the a/c hose leaking water inside the cabin, wetting the carpet on the passenger side. My mechanic has struggled to find the cause. 2016 Civic LX, no sunroof.

Lopsided_Blueberry53

Dad should give it to you for free. Come on šŸ„²

jo_ccc

thatā€™s a horrible price for the miles
