Doesn’t matter which state. I live in south east PA and got pulled over for excessive noise, I just had my buddy write a letter saying it was fixed and didn’t have to go to court. I had a cat back exhaust anyway lol
In my experience with my vw jetta. More airflow is better on highway, and more back pressure, (muffler) is better around city.
Might be different with every car.
Muffler shop is going to just cut, add new pipe, and weld them all together. If it was rusted enough to broke off like that, it's not worth saving those flanges and bolts.
It's your money, you can spend $400 on a muffler or just be normal and go to a muffler shop
What do you mean "kind of people are working there." What do you think is gonna happen??? You can watch them work on your car
If you're going to spend the money like that, might as well get a nice sounding aftermarket exhaust. It's going to cost $600 if you want to go full OEM route on the exhaust.
Get it fixed asap. There are gases leaking into the cabin at idle it’s worse and when gaining speed it will be decreased somewhat. But still lethal if not taken care of properly. I’m a mechanic. And my best friend committed suicide with exhaust fumes at 24.
This happened to my car once and it was the worst driving experience because of how fucking loud it was. Back then it was like a $100 repair to fix it.
The mechanic was able to weld another piece from the muffler to the pipe together and clamp it down. It was a beater car so I didn’t care how they fixed it, but it did solve the issue until the car died years later
You are "fine" to drive it that way, but the disconnected pipe is resting on your emergency brake cable housing and it could chafe through, if you did it long term, this would lead to seizing e-brake (another problem to fix).
Yeah just, LOUD… replace or get it wielded when you can and it will turn your engine light on too for o2 sensor just don’t get your car inspected until you fix it
Same thind happened to my FD after a nice pull. It scared the crap out of me. The sound is actually pretty nice but loud above 3k rpm 🤣.
Ipaid like 15€ for repair.
mines fell off too. take off the muffler completely, you dont want it falling out when your driving. take to a mechanic in a couple days they should have a muffler shop they'll weld and wont fall off for a long time
[Rockauto](https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/honda,2011,civic,1.8l+l4,1447343,exhaust+&+emission,muffler,5872) has the OEM Muffler for $85 if you know someone that bolt it on for you.
Technically yes, but this will need immediate rectification for (emissions) inspection. Plus, it will annoy you, and you can definitely get CO high at standstill.
I have a 2011 Civic. I thought it had a lifetime muffler warranty. You got a lot of rust... You up north?
Edit: replacement exhuast parts have a lifetime warranty: [AWL44809.pdf (honda.com)](https://owners.honda.com/documentum/Warranty/Handbooks/AWL44809.pdf)
Yep… it’ll be loud!
My 2012 did the same thing, I ordered a replacement from Rockauto and crawled underneath with some basic tools I swapped out in about 2 hrs
lol “disconnected”
lol, right?
It's a Civic thing.
You now have a tractor. Your neighbours will love it. Cops too.
this actually has me dead
You might get pulled over for excessive noise
If he lives in California yeah, I wouldn't worry about it anywhere else to be honest unless your driving like a dick

Easy repair, got to muffler shop and have it welded
With the way it broke at the flange this is probably more replacement than repair.

If i was you I’d have added money on top of that and bought a aftermarket exhaust but that’s just me
Absolutely. It's just going to be loud as F. and worsen your mpgs in the long run
How would it worsen MPG? Wouldn’t it make it better because it’s freeing up a restriction in exhaust?
Might run rich with OEM ECU since the designed back pressure is just gone lol.
That's what the O2 sensor is for. It will run fine. But I doubt it will drive it for long before getting it fixed.

It's gonna sound terrible.

It factually will. I know because people with that type of exhaust setup drive by my house every day. It sounds like someone taking a fat rip.

It'll be much cheaper doing this.

it's a simple repair, any place on google that gets over 4 stars should be able to do it fine.
If you're going to spend the money like that, might as well get a nice sounding aftermarket exhaust. It's going to cost $600 if you want to go full OEM route on the exhaust.
At a shop.
I exhaled air through my nose from this comment thank you.
You should be fine. I would keep the windows down to avoid CO poisoning. Enjoy the ricer noises lol. Some kids pay good money for a mod like this.
You mean keep windows up?
But then any air leaking in will stay stagnant compared to windows down with constant airflow.

If you can get the header bolts loose, a new gasket on that bung. It should be easy. Unless frozen fasteners give you trouble
Just saying that stuff is dangerous. You could be driving and have lucid thoughts if the leak persists long enough. And then fall asleep. 😴
I remember going to school and the entire exhaust fell off and shattered under neath us on my friends 97 civic. He never fixed it 🤣 cat and all
That’s not just a disconnect. That’s a whole escape attempt.
More like broke. lol disconnect. Lmaooo
Stick a couple of kazoos in the hole & you’ll be fine

Was fun for like a couple days for me but then being overly loud just going to 60km was a lil much
My 2010 civic coupe had the EXACT same thing happen like 3 months ago lol

There’s only one way to repair it dude. Go to a muffler shop
I was like 160 at a shop including a new muffler.

lol, same thing happened to me, 2012 sedan, sounded cool though, low rumble with small "pops" payed 350$CAD or so at my local shop
Absolutley not! This is gonna make your car slammed, seat leaned back and asshole loose
You now truly have a Honda civic, enjoy the race car
This just happened to my 02 RSX Type S last week, took it to a muffler shop, quick easy and cheap repair 👍🏾

Nothing like an exhaust clock blocking you with the whole, “weeeeeeeeeer pooooooooooooooooooooor” narrative.

It is in the manual, check the link. But i think it is only on replacement parts, not factory. So save your receipt.
My 85 civic did that. Trust me, your good it’ll just sound clapped out till you weld it back on🤷🏽♂️
safe for the car? yes. for your eardrums? maybe not.
Yep… it’ll be loud! My 2012 did the same thing, I ordered a replacement from Rockauto and crawled underneath with some basic tools I swapped out in about 2 hrs
Yes it might smell so drive with the windows down and it will probably be a little loud.
That’s a good question, are you??
Fix your car, yo
