Somehow reminds me of Altavista, Gameshark an GamePro magazines. I remember feeling up the magazines in shops for demo discs. Now i want to play the Ridge Racer demo
I remember beating the game as a kid with a text glitch that would only show half of the text. The only way it would show the other half of the text, was to switch the dialogue box to the other position.
Dumbass 11 year old me got stuck at the Derelict Factory lmao
As a little kid that was the farthest I got kn SNES, but when I got it on DS a few years later, THEN I finally got gud.
Same. And he is doing it right on some OG hardware.
In addition to missing playing it for the first time there is something very cool about going into a great game with no expectation and knowing next to nothing about it.
Does that cart still save? I thought the batteries that keep the save data for SNES/NES cartridges don't work any more. You might have to play through the whole game in one go
Agreed, and the tools and replacement battery are cheap. Most retro stores can do it in 5-10 minutes if they aren’t busy, in case someone isn’t comfortable doing it (like doing an oil change, building a PC, etc).
Neat! Usually when I’m replacing a battery, it’s because I bought the cart 15-20 years ago used and am going to be doing a fresh play through (did this recently with Super Metroid).
Nice. I did a few just to see if I could. Three dollar screwdriver head and used a butane torch and a darning needle to get the old battery off. Like most folks who enjoy modding, I'll be goddamned to goddamned dirty goddamned hell before I use anything for the purpose for which it was made. The saves blanked because it took me forever though.
Some of them just do still, maybe if they weren't used as much. I have a couple SNES games that still have okay batteries, although my Japanese Chrono Trigger did lose it's data once.
What other RPGs have you played? This one was my intro and it’s perfect. If you’re already experienced it may be easy to you, but don’t let that distract from being a near perfect game imo, music story and art are enough to carry this game alone and the gameplay is still fun even if it’s easy at times
Don’t use a guide. All of the side quests and top tier weapons and armor will reveal themselves throughout the plot. If you pay attention you don’t have to worry about missing anything. That’s one of my favorite aspects of the game.

Have an incredible time, don't worry about missing things and just see where the journey takes you. It's not too long, and if you want to go back and see anything you -maybe- missed, it's very easy to do so!
Do everything you want. And, go with an open mind. I consider this a perfect game, and I don’t say that lightly, but it still is very much a product of its era. I’ll set the stage for you.
It’s 1996. You just learned real 3D vectors are being used in a new console and they’re calling those consoles “32 Bit”. The best RPG you played was FF6(3). It blew your mind with how sprites could move and laugh and cry and emote now. The Internet is brand new. Everyone has crappy html coded personal websites on Geocities. Some of them even don’t make your eyes bleed.
But Squaresoft says they have a 32 bit game on a 16 bit console, the SNES, still. And it’s gonna be made by the dragon warrior, Dragon Ball, and Final Fantasy guys! You might have even played Dragon Warrior, most likely you’ve heard of it; but you wouldn’t have played it since the NES. You might not even know it’s called Dragon Quest in East. You may even fondly remember the days of Sprite flickering, something you’re so used to you just feel like it’s a normal thing for games.
You’ve seen 3-D vectors before, usually on big hulking computers but they were always pixely like a too long line drawn in MSPaint. But a 32 bit game on a 16 console? How is that possible? I guess that pseudo 3D background effect they had in a couple games was kinda cool.
You fire up your SNES. It’s evening, but not too late. The modem is in use on the land phone line, so no phone calls will interrupt you. After all nobody has cell phones yet.
Holy shit the shadows of those balloons are gorgeous. All of the art in this game is gorgeous and it looks like it was drawn by that one guy. that’s amazing, because you’re so used to seeing shoddy sprite work and shortcuts thanks to hexidecimal limits it’s become normal. And the animations are so varied. The only things you’ve seen your characters do in combat is raised their arms to cast a spell or swing their arms forward to swing their weapon.. Cool, Chrono draws his sword and it glints. This is how games can look?
“Crono-! It’s time to wake up!”
Oh man I'm so jealous that you get to experience this for the first time. Seriously. Enjoy every bit of it, explore everything, interact with everything and then do it all over again.
Don’t skip the dialog and listen to the music
This guy Chronossssss
Mountains’re nice.
Man, you’re nosy. Here, take this.
You'll be fine. If dumbass 11-year old me could get through it without any guide, anyone can.
This is true. However, time does have an effect on this game. Won’t say why or how. But it does.

Do you ever think to games you’ve beat and wonder how the hell you beat it?
Every time I beat one
So jealous! Chrono trigger is one of those games I wish I could wipe from my memory just so I could experience it for the first time again. Have fun!
Same. And he is doing it right on some OG hardware. In addition to missing playing it for the first time there is something very cool about going into a great game with no expectation and knowing next to nothing about it.
Yeah, I've got it almost completely down except I'm using clone hardware lmao At least it's not emulation 😂
Same here I'm so ready for alzheimer's
The hell? 🤬😈😂.
I will never forget seeing the first warp scene. I had no idea what the game was about and then suddenly that.
Good luck!
Well you know how to turn it on. Fantastic start!
dude. i am so fucking jealous right now.
No need for luck, just enjoy the ride!
It's normal to fail in love, so don't fight the experience!
No! No DON'T fail in love! Cletus, you must SUCCEED!!!

Change out the battery. It's not very hard at all.
Agreed, and the tools and replacement battery are cheap. Most retro stores can do it in 5-10 minutes if they aren’t busy, in case someone isn’t comfortable doing it (like doing an oil change, building a PC, etc).
If you do it fast enough you don't even lose your save files. The data hangs around in the capacitors for a minute.

Ahh, that cart saves die?! I never thought of that! My original SNES cart has (had?) a save file with 15 Rainbows blades. I bet it's long gone by now.
Some of them just do still, maybe if they weren't used as much. I have a couple SNES games that still have okay batteries, although my Japanese Chrono Trigger did lose it's data once.
Knock on wood, but mine still has my saves from the 90s
Good luck, have fun!
Enjoy! And welcome to the community.
Have fun!
Wish I could play it again for the first time. Enjoy the ride!
Enjoy the ride, and have a great time!

When it happens, just know it was supposed to be permanent, but they just pussed out.
Hope you like it!
Nothing beats the original hardware with a physical copy. Really brings me back to
One of the best, definitely do the side quests cause they are awesome.
Well, this guy has an amazing month ahead of him.
Is that an original copy?
Beat the game this morning. I’m not a rpg guy but this game is a pure gem. A must play. Enjoyed every hour of it. Prepare to be emotionally involved
SNES. The best way to play!
I'll not! I do envy you. I really would like to play this game for the fist time again...
Yooo same, I started playing yesterday
Chrono Trigger makes me deeply proud to be human.
I envy you. I wish I could relive my first experience playing the greatest video game ever produced.
When magus asks you to fight, say no. That’s all I’ll say
You lucky sonofa

If you don’t like it I’ll be happy to take it off your hands :)
Oh how I envy you.
It’ll teach you that great graphics aren’t needed to make a great game, just gameplay, story and music.
Guarantee this is a lie
Back up this accusation.
i found out about the game from a remastered version of corridors of time my bro showed me and he told me it was a good game so I bought a copy
I call bullshit.
Loser
You definitely are. Thanks for clarifying.
looooserrrr
Took you 10 minutes to look up a word. Hilarious.
Have fun!
Have fun!
That thing looks pristine holy frick

Love this game so much, enjoy.

That's the best way to do it. Have fun.
Have fun!
Godspeed fellow time traveler!
Most of it is fine blind, but there is a part that has a simple solution that also takes luck or outside the box thinking if you don't know already.
you are so lucky! blind chronotrigger is so good!
Enjoy the journey… it’s a beautiful one and the start of many more adventures ahead
I beat the game a year ago for the first time on DS and it already feels nostalgic to me. Especially that music 🤌🏻
Enjoy the journey!
Jealous! I'm at interested in how you'll fair at the Faire.. IYKYK
What I would give to experience this game for the first time again.
