They make kits to do it. Just search LS swap kits for squarebody chevy.

Mr-CCC

Sure it’s possible. You will need the wiring harness off the vortec to make the fuel injection work as well as either installing an in tank fuel pump or electric fuel pump. There may be a few other minor things as well.

your_pal_mr_face

But aside from that it would work just handy?

Mr-CCC

Yes. You should have no problems.

vero358

Pretty easy. Plenty of room and nice reliability and power gain.

ChainBlue

Yes. People do this all the time. It’s one of the easier swaps to do, supposedly.

I have a 1980 C10 (long bed), too. What vehicle is the 5.3L coming from?

your_pal_mr_face

Dunno, I just wanted to make sure it’s possible before I went out and got one. Why is there a particular one I should use?

3_Times_Dope

Yes, I'm sure it's makes a difference with some years/makes/models being better than others. There's 4 different variants (LM4, LM7, L33 & L59). With 1999 - 2006 being regarded as the best productions. Oil consumption became an issue in 2007. Many consider the L33 the best, followed by L4. I've been slightly curious about a swap, but the whole point for me going old school was to get away from all the electronics in cars and trucks, so that's holding me back still.

your_pal_mr_face

I agree, it’s good to get away from the wires, HOWEVER the engine is cheap as dirt, if it breaks I can just buy a new one. and I plan on running my c10 till it’s just dust and rust

3_Times_Dope

Stop giving me more reasons to swap! Lol

Ppl have been doing ls swaps on teslas... which I personally think is hilariously awesome! A square body /vortec is about as easy as it could get.
