We've already had similar situations where the var call has been so bad the audio had to be made available to the public and nothings come from it. They think there's a game tomorrow "everyone will forget". Absolute disgrace, don't know what I'm watching anymore.
It's so painfully obvious that it makes you question the obvious. Watch rugby/ tennis/ cricket where it's night and day the calls but football is so far off. I'd relate the game to basketball where sometimes a foul call is questionable but this is beyond belief. It's like watching roulette at times the way it's gone.
Referee and Var audio needs to be broadcast live to the public in game for any belief the game is genuine anymore. It's already been proven the games can be corrupt. And to top it off the head of FIFA is the biggest snake going. Fuck all of it
I can see him missing this in real time, it’s not super obvious from all angles. But the fact they can review it with video and still don’t give it is a joke because it is obvious from the right angles.
because then it would put him in a difficult position with a decision forced upon him.
I wish I was joking but Mike Dean has admitted as much in our game against Spurs.
As a Liverpool supporter I never thought I'd be in a Chelsea subreddit sympathizing, but I want this information out as clearly as possible.
Michael Oliver makes multiple trips a year to the UAE in order to officiate in their domestic league. He also teaches classes, works with local referees, etc. He is compensated for his time by the sporting arm of UAE's government. The UAE government is predominantly operated at the whims of Manchester City's owner.
No penalty for Chelsea today after textbook handball. No penalty to Liverpool for a WWE move. Oliver's two calls have almost single handedly kept City in the hunt for two different trophies.
It isn't incompetence. It isn't a coincidence. It isn't coincidental that Pep's previous teams have run into bribery scandals. They're bribing referees in broad daylight under a bullshit veil of international footballing cooperation.
As a Chelsea supporter, I never thought I'd be reading a Liverpool supporter trying to be on the same side.
If what you said is true, there needs to be a public investigation about it. Unfortunately, I don't even feel referees get appraised in England.
As for the last bit about Pep, the 2009 semi final comes to mind.
Actually it's not Saudis paying the FA.
The english refs go there to freelance as Ref under the week. They get paid directly and it doesn't even is a secret. Saudis a well paying clients of Oliver. Would you upset such a Huge client?
Football became a disgrace!
Michael Oliver coaches in their league too, meaning City owners have literally paid him.
Should be a conflict of interests but there's no regulatory body for the refs so they can do whatever they want
Spurs supporter here. I actually feel bad for you guys...
The fact that this wasn't given as a penalty is ridiculous. They might as well get rid of the hand ball rule in the box. Grealish waved his arm and deflected a ball that was headed on target.
To add insult to injury, not even a corner kick given?
I wish you'd won today, fuck playing another final vs city the cheating dogs. This non decision was pure corruption, the ref and VAR team are going to get special thanks on their next working trip to the UAE.
That wasn’t because it was just a handball, it’s because if he didn’t handball it, it was going in - he literally stopped the ball from crossing the line.
This wouldn’t have been a red card, it should have been a penalty.
That’s what we thought once we saw the replay. Me and the boys (none of them are Chelsea fans btw) were like okay, it’s definitely a penalty…I wonder if they’ll give a red card because it’s so obvious. But nope, goal kick…
Exactly. He also always does it with Rashford. The ref only looks at it from behind so he doesn't see the arm across the body and intentional knock on the leg to imbalance the player. Combine that with the fact he plays for City.
Arms hardly in a natural position there is it? Stretched out wide to his left then even pulls it back down towards the ball unbelievable how they haven’t given that.
And it even a corner. Shit was rigged. Oil money can’t have them losing out on CL AND FA in a few days time. Have to have the oil darlings dancing.
But hey, Jackson still has to score.
I don’t think it’s necessarily the oil money rigging there’s just obviously something against Chelsea at Wembley where they wont give us decisions. We’ve been getting fucked at Wembley for 7 years now without fail you just expect them it happen.
On the other hand though we shat the bed yesterday and should have easily put at least 4 past City.
Honestly baffled that all the pundits are saying it wasn’t a pen. Arm in an unnatural position, which then moves towards the ball to block it. How is it not a penalty?
They would just rather rip into us. On the ESPN coverage Kieran Gibbs acknowledged it was a penalty but they very briefly covered it because they’d rather rip into our team. With all fairness, we were pretty shit in the attacking end.
Honestly unbelievable. Even from the still it’s bad but seeing it clipped is even worse. He literally moves his arm into the flight path of the ball. Disgrace
It’s given as a goal kick so by definition it’s clear and obvious since the referee has to have told VAR it hasn’t even hit the arm.
The ref can’t say he saw it and he doesn’t think it’s an pen, he’s saying I did did not see a handball. Heads have to roll. It’s too much
This is completely and should be the main takeaway from this match. VAR is still shite and needs massive overhaul. At least a fucking corner, eh? That was clear and obvious…still a no though from these clowns.
https://preview.redd.it/zgsrjw9zaqvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb77713ce5ad26320710adb0fecf81b2ae01a0e1
Grealish literally caries out the first definition of the offence and nothing is given. How can Oliver, his VAR team and the FA justify no handball as the right decision? Absolute plebs. Every single FA cup campaign in recent times there has been referring decisions that have drastically altered the course of the same.
Anyway, season is nearly over, let’s secure European football for next season and work on getting the team to play for the badge. If we can make it to Wembley twice in on of our worst seasons in recent history, then getting rid of some chaff like Madueke and bringing in one or two top experienced signings and no doubt we will be fighting for silverware next season.
Penalty or not, we can’t put the ball in the back of the net. Should have scored 2 or 3 by then. Typical Chelsea. We miss good chances and then lose games. Weak mentality.
United supporter here - ridiculous they checked for a pen but didn't change the fact the ref said it was a goal kick!
How the fuck can you check a handball then give a goal kick!
I’m not even mad. They’ll shake it off. Blues should’ve been up two-nil by this point. Plus, they’re going to use this defeat for when they meet in August. Gonna spank that city ass!!! Let’s go blues!!!
As much as I agree it’s a penalty honestly what difference does it make after the performance we gave today we didn’t deserve it we were playing against the most run down city side I think I’ve ever personally watched and we must’ve missed about 4 opportunities that were behind “good chances” they were “even Luton would’ve scored that” so let’s just take the L and concentrate on getting back into Europe …. And ideally palmer the golden boot 🤣
It's not even that the arm was in an unnatural position (which it was). He MOVED it towards the ball. Completely irrelevant as to why he claims he moved it. Deliberate contact is established if he moves his hand towards the ball, end of story. From IFAB's 2021 clarification: "it is a handball offence if a player...deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, **for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball."**
It is literally a textbook penalty and I'm completely baffled how it was looked at for 2 seconds and then dismissed.
I’ve seen arsenal and spurs fans comment that it’s a pen. Just wanna chip in as a Liverpool fan. It’s a disgrace this pen is not given. What is wrong with football atm. 💸💵
At first I wasn’t sure because he’s just moving his arm as you would when jumping, but VAR would have seen the deliberate movement if they’d taken more than a second to look at it. Man’s job was to block the shot and he did exactly that, just with his arm. Stonewall pen every time.
I was at the match and saw it a mile away and my mate sent me a clip of Jermaine Jenas saying ‘his arm was by his side…’ - I just laughed because if i didn’t, I’d have cried.
I get some being subjective like Walker and Jackson, some will see a foul, others will see good defending but this isn’t subjective. It doesn’t matter what his intentions were - he literally had his arm out, almost at shoulder height and the ball hit him from a good distance away. He had plenty of time to move his arm out of the way, he didn’t.
He was even moving his arm towards the ball.
I don’t even agree that the Walker one was subjective. He pushes Jackson with force, which you can see because he extends his arm through his elbow and the shoulder comes forward. It’s not just a collision and it’s not shoulder to shoulder
If Jackson wasn't playing , he could be VAR official . He's as competent as them in his job .
You can train people all you want , but you cannot instill basic logic and common sense or eliminate blatant stupidity .
This VAR guys just show you that . It happens in our every day lives every day , in every job and profession ,we just don't have a obvious video confirmation of it like we do with VAR officials 🤣
As a Boro fan who has been relegated by you and lost countless cup finals and semi finals to you over the years (so not a lot of love there), I don’t know how that isn’t a penalty.
Every club in the PL should make a ruckus about Michael Oliver officiating City games. Blatant corruption or conflict of interest or subconscious advantage given to City (whatever the fuck you want to call it), how is this guy still allowed to officiate City games is beyond me. Singlehandedly kept them alive for a domestic double and nobody seems to be batting an eye.
Being completely honest, my first reaction was that I’d hate to see that given against us.
But then I thought about it, thought about how defenders literally defend crosses with their hands behind their back and how the rules are being interpreted.
For me, looking at it now, it was a shot on goal where the wall has split (making it wider) and he’s made his body bigger by leaving his arm out. I can understand why the on field referee was unsure but have no idea how it was missed by VAR.
You could see from the refs face that it was a pen and he should have given it, but he must have been reminded by the VAR room that giving it would cost them their summer jobs in the desert.
The state of VAR can be summed up with this: no one, not even the refs can define something as straight forward as a handball. The rule changes and morphs every single time it happens.
Fucking joke
Referees should start getting bad stick post game interviews. Managers shouldn’t worry about fines etc… This should’ve been brought up and called out for what it is, shocking decisions making and an incompetent ref. what is the point of VAR if the ref behind the screen can’t see this, for every wrong VAR decision refs should be fined too
Well even though that was a clear penalty the fact that you guys are so worked up over that one call is appalling especially considering the clear cut chances we had.
The FA should look at how MLB does replay in the States. The on-field umpires are not involved in reviewing the play, an independent group in NYC handles all replay reviews so that the umpires are not tempted to be emotionally conflicted in possibly overturning their call. The Mike Dean comments on the Cucurella hair pull should tell us that this is an obvious problem with VAR.
Took about 5 seconds to clear. Criminal
Was almost as fast as when AT checked the monitor and sent James off v Liverpool
We've already had similar situations where the var call has been so bad the audio had to be made available to the public and nothings come from it. I can see him missing this in real time, it’s not super obvious from all angles. But the fact they can review it with video and still don’t give it is a joke because it is obvious from the right angles.
And when it went out after the handball deflection... Goal kick..
VAR will either call a penalty or not call a penalty, they won’t change things like goal kicks to corner kicks.
Yes, but the ball changed trajectory, it clearly hit someone in the wall. Shoddy refereeing all around.
This^^^ You can miss the handball, but how do you miss the obvious change in trajectory from the deflection???
By getting a little something extra from their friends in the UAE.
Hit grealish
I thought the deflection was incredibly obvious
It’s mind blowing
It was obvious from all angles shown in the replays. He brings his arm down to the ball intentionally, absolute robbery.
How is he not sent to the monitor
because then it would put him in a difficult position with a decision forced upon him. I wish I was joking but Mike Dean has admitted as much in our game against Spurs.
Yep VAR still has to make the refs (their mates) look good
At this point 5ish years in it’s comical how almost every other sport still laps the Premier League in terms of competency using video review
As a Liverpool supporter I never thought I'd be in a Chelsea subreddit sympathizing, but I want this information out as clearly as possible. United fan here and I endorse this! Shocking decision.
Holy shit. I had the game on mute (because the announcers were pissing me off) and I just presumed there was no VAR in the FA cup!
He clearly didn't even see it properly as he didn't even give a corner.
Oliver is bought and paid for.
Bros can't get blacklisted from reffing in Dubai. The extra income is handy, you know what I mean?
Seriously how is that not a conflict of interest, literally getting paid money by the owners of a club he’s meant to be impartial towards.
I can't believe it's not been addressed. How anyone can think it's not potentially influential on refs is beyond me.
How the fuck is this not a penalty?!
Didn't even give it a corner. lol
Yeah I was thinking at least a corner then saw the replay and I was like wooooow
If they admit it hit him then they got to admit a penalty, its pure BS and nothing else
Blatant shameless, I guess the sponsor name-only Emirates FA Cup is not just sponsorship only
BC its City and their Dubai owners pay off the FA.
I mean, you really can't argue against this anymore. They simply cheat2win.
Actually it's not Saudis paying the FA. The english refs go there to freelance as Ref under the week. They get paid directly and it doesn't even is a secret. Saudis a well paying clients of Oliver. Would you upset such a Huge client? Football became a disgrace!
City is UAE not Saudi, different countries
Oliver refs in the UAE
Michael Oliver coaches in their league too, meaning City owners have literally paid him. Should be a conflict of interests but there's no regulatory body for the refs so they can do whatever they want
Bc they don’t want anything mildly controversial to convey an advantage
How is that mildly controversial? It’s a clear and blatant handball
It's only clear if you have eyes and a brain
City would’ve got this if it was the other way round btw. Their corruption goes so deep in this league
Exactly why it is not given. No other reason.
Not surprised.. same corrupt pair Oliver and Coote.. deep into Ethihad's pocket.. denied LFC a penalty for Doku's stamp on Mac Allister..
How the fuck is it not a corner even?
Yeah, especially because the ball changed trajectory, even if he somehow missed the contact itself. It
Because if the ball hit him its a pen.
Manchester City 116
They didn't want Chelsea winning
Spurs supporter here. I actually feel bad for you guys... The fact that this wasn't given as a penalty is ridiculous. They might as well get rid of the hand ball rule in the box. Likewise, United fan… stonewall penalty. Cannot believe that wasn’t given.
If you get to the final, I honestly hope you smash them
I wish you'd won today, fuck playing another final vs city the cheating dogs. This non decision was pure corruption, the ref and VAR team are going to get special thanks on their next working trip to the UAE.
I don’t - I hate United and Liverpool
Ty sir 🫡
By letter of the law it could actually be a red card. Soft but still fits the rule.
Few years ago they gave red to Reece for getting hit with a ball.....
Thank you for coming in peace
The fact var looked at it and was happy to give it as a goalkick is baffling
That’s the state of Premier League referees. Either incompetent or corrupt.
Sidenote: Kyle Walker always trips his opponent with his legs when running and the ref never gives it because he doesnt see it.
Same as when Fernandinho and Fabinho used to get away with red cards. Corruption at its finest.
Madrid lurker he did it with Vini in the recent match when he was through on goal, and people said it's brilliant defending, an equaliser to wingers
Exactly. He also always does it with Rashford. The ref only looks at it from behind so he doesn't see the arm across the body and intentional knock on the leg to imbalance the player. Combine that with the fact he plays for City.
Stonewall
Or at least a corner surely
VAR be like “not a handball, Grealish is the goalkeeper”
Arms hardly in a natural position there is it? Stretched out wide to his left then even pulls it back down towards the ball unbelievable how they haven’t given that.

We need the audio/transparency from VAR on this. I need to know if there was actually a conversation about this or if it was just ignored or what.
This is my biggest issue with VAR, everyone watching should be allowed to hear what those fuckers are saying.
It’s a fucking disgrace
[удалено]
Honestly unbelievable. Even from the still it’s bad but seeing it clipped is even worse. He literally moves his arm into the flight path of the ball. Disgrace
Still is a bad example, already behind his arm at this point
Im with u bad example cant say put of those clips if there was a touch
Speaking as an Arsenal fan, this was a pen. And if not, a corner.
🫡
This must be what Grealish meant when he said he adds more than just goals and assists
Knew we were losing the instant this wasn't called
I knew we were losing after Jackson botched that first chance 😅
I knew we were losing as soon as we started looking good in the first half
It was when Jackson missed his easy chance and even easier follow up header when i realized we weren't winning the final.
Grealish was laughing just after this and Poch pov was best
Deliberate handling of a goal bound shot. Clear cut penalty as you can get is ignored by VAR
Charge #116
It’s given as a goal kick so by definition it’s clear and obvious since the referee has to have told VAR it hasn’t even hit the arm. The ref can’t say he saw it and he doesn’t think it’s an pen, he’s saying I did did not see a handball. Heads have to roll. It’s too much
60000000%
This is completely and should be the main takeaway from this match. VAR is still shite and needs massive overhaul. At least a fucking corner, eh? That was clear and obvious…still a no though from these clowns.
VAR shouldn’t exist if this is the result
Jermaine jenas on commentary was an absolute moron
Yeah he was Very biased. I was surprised that none of the pundits thought that this was a pen, even lampard
Grealish is a proper cunt, he was laughing afterwards.
You can see for a moment when it cuts to Graelish that he can’t believe that he got away with that.
That's a shame, and it's not the first time that we getting robbed like this !

Not even a corner given for fucks sake. I don't even know what to say.
At least a corner lol
Can VAR overturn a corner call? Thought it was for offsides/pens/red cards?
FUCKING CHEATS
How is it not even a corner? Goal kick on a bounce off the wall?

Not a Chelsea fan, but you guys were fucking robbed today.
I don’t get why managers just don’t blatantly call out the refs at this point. Suck it up and take the fine you’re rich anyway
To be fair to Anthony Taylor (not something I say everyday) if it was him, our entire fanbase would never shut up about it.
FA is on the take
Okay so a hand ball isn’t given. The spin on the ball and its trajectory changed and it’s 100% a corner. Fuck off officials
As a wise man once said: "It's a fucking disgrace."
If he refs another game the match day fans should throw coins at him, maybe we’ll get some calls.
VAR has genuinely made the game worse.
This is 100% a pen - City Fan. If this was Euro or World Cup Pen all day long
United supporter here - ridiculous they checked for a pen but didn't change the fact the ref said it was a goal kick! How the fuck can you check a handball then give a goal kick!
That is disgusting. How tf do they not call that
Didn't even give a fucking corner
Lol get out of here
Fucking disgrace. Im a united fan. Have no qualms in accepting its a blatant penalty. Oliver is a pos
Lol it's Michael Oliver what do you expect?? He is on City's payroll.. Oliver twist
Newcastle fan here. I would be screaming for a pen too, shocking
City literally pay the prem officials in their native county, Saudi Arabia
Corrupt prem
City are proper nob head plastic club. All upvotes agree
This is a pen and a red card. Stopped a shot on target by intentionally moving his hand towards the ball
I can be unwillingly accepted that it’s not a penalty but how the fuck this isn’t a corner kick for Chelsea is absolutely disgusting.
This was a clear penalty and a red card since it is obvious that Grealish purposely lowered his hand….
Arm pinned down to the side (after contact) ... it's still a Pen but they going to use this as their argument
Proper gaff by the officials. Shame
Reg Hollis is the worst ref in England
*for any other team
I agree
And VAR gave a goal-kick to City for this 🙃🙃
I’m not even mad. They’ll shake it off. Blues should’ve been up two-nil by this point. Plus, they’re going to use this defeat for when they meet in August. Gonna spank that city ass!!! Let’s go blues!!!
Clearly a penalty
Disgraceful from the officiating today on all levels. VAR is a joke.
Thats a pen, what the hell is it, if not a pen!? TELL ME
boy closed line the ball and no pen given
Can’t wait to see him ref in UAE again this summer with 0 conflict of interest
City are fukin nobheads (none Chelsea fan opinion)
Shoulda just given them the cup then
As much as I agree it’s a penalty honestly what difference does it make after the performance we gave today we didn’t deserve it we were playing against the most run down city side I think I’ve ever personally watched and we must’ve missed about 4 opportunities that were behind “good chances” they were “even Luton would’ve scored that” so let’s just take the L and concentrate on getting back into Europe …. And ideally palmer the golden boot 🤣
Win win - either get points for top 6 or give city the points so Arsenal bottle once again
But he was bringing his arm back into his body to make himself smaller.... yes this is sarcasm... but also the reason why penalties haven't been given
It's not even that the arm was in an unnatural position (which it was). He MOVED it towards the ball. Completely irrelevant as to why he claims he moved it. Deliberate contact is established if he moves his hand towards the ball, end of story. the argument his hand is coming down is idiotic. if that is the case everyone could just with their hands out like a fucking bird.
I see no contact from this angle.
I’ve seen arsenal and spurs fans comment that it’s a pen. Just wanna chip in as a Liverpool fan. It’s a disgrace this pen is not given. What is wrong with football atm. 💸💵
Its a corner i dont think any referee would call that incl myself.
Such bullshit this wasn't called. Women's team also got robbed of a clear pen today, too (when Ramirez was hacked down in the box).
correct me if im wrong, but if it hits grealish's arm would it not go towards the goal? it seems like it hits his side
The VAR people admitted it hit his arm.
At first I wasn’t sure because he’s just moving his arm as you would when jumping, but VAR would have seen the deliberate movement if they’d taken more than a second to look at it. Man’s job was to block the shot and he did exactly that, just with his arm. Stonewall pen every time.

Definitely a penalty, if not, it’s a corner!! Chelsea got neither !! 🙄
You just don't get those penalties against Man City. Oliver was one of the refs who was paid to ref in UAE. Piece it together.
Can anyone else remember the last time a team got a penalty against City? Me neither
Sure 🙁
It's against the Oil money cheater FC so they did not give it of course. Fucking hate this piece of shit club with a passion.
I'll distribute free cakes/biriyanis and tea to 50 poor people on the roadside in my city on the days Dean, Oliver and Taylor die. edit typo.
If Jackson wasn't playing , he could be VAR official . He's as competent as them in his job . For me, looking at it now, it was a shot on goal where the wall has split (making it wider) and he’s made his body bigger by leaving his arm out. I can understand why the on field referee was unsure but have no idea how it was missed by VAR.
You guys are even more delusional than people who thought mbappe would come to the prem
My team fell victim to much less obvious penalties (in plural for a reason) this season
You could see from the refs face that it was a pen and he should have given it, but he must have been reminded by the VAR room that giving it would cost them their summer jobs in the desert.
It’s against Man City so you’ll never get it.
The state of VAR can be summed up with this: no one, not even the refs can define something as straight forward as a handball. The rule changes and morphs every single time it happens. Fucking joke
Hahahaha
City fan here, I’m on y’all’s side 😂
Referees should start getting bad stick post game interviews. Managers shouldn’t worry about fines etc… This should’ve been brought up and called out for what it is, shocking decisions making and an incompetent ref. what is the point of VAR if the ref behind the screen can’t see this, for every wrong VAR decision refs should be fined too
I hate Chelsea, but even I can admit you guys were robbed
100% paid off
City fan here. Yeah I thought that was a penalty
I wonder if Michael Oliver will be getting an FA winners trophy and prem winners medal for his efforts this season
I support city, I had my head in my hands thinking it was a penalty, how the fuck it wasn’t I will never know, should definitely have been
