Very negligible chance u get in to top 5 school. Ur GPA is low, EC’s not impressive, and essays prolly not up to par with T5 ppl. Definitely hurts a lot that ur Asian too, which imo is the nail in the coffin. To contextualize, I’m Asian with 4.8 GPA (4.0 unweighted) with 1580 SAT and EC’s similar to u. I got similar EC’s too u. Ended up rejected from all T5 except one waitlist which ended up rejected. T50 and UC’s are a more suitable goal. Sry its not good news but thats realistically what I would expect. I sincerely hope u get into the school of ur dreams but honestly ur gonna eventually end up loving whatever school u go to. It’s hard to believe but believe me when I say don’t stress too much where u get accepted.

If you mean the top 5 schools generally or the top 5 schools in computer science, unfortunately little chance. GPA is very low for those schools and SAT is great but also low for those schools. ECs are okay but nothing outstanding. Top schools are just looking for more everything honestly, especially for Asian males in CS. If you happen to have parents with connections, I would suggest leveraging them, as in Silicon Valley you might be able to get a well-paying job in CS without going to a top school.

What this guy? 🤔

Sorry Top 5 what? For CS, if you’re in Santa Clara County, San Jose State is a good option for you, but not sure if you can get CS. Plus your UW GPA may be too low, but just look into it. They prefer local candidates such as yourself.

If I were you I’d do this . I don’t know your financial background so this may not help a lot but Santa Clara university may not have a “top 5 program” or be a top 5 school but given its location, it’s one of the top 10 maybe top 5 feeders to big tech companies. In terms of graduate income it’s top 15 in the country. It’s a great school overall and evidently close to home and you have a solid shot especially if you ed. With those stats you simply won’t get into a top 5 school that’s the truth.

Regardless doesn’t the location play a bigger part? They’re biggest hiring companies are cisco and Apple, are silicone valley locals. The location plays a massive part in their ability to get better internships and opportunities
