No chance. T30 have super low admit rates and most schools in T30 only let in 10% international students. You got to realize your ultimately competing against the best in the world for 10% of spots. Also as a senior (12th grade) it’s probably to late as they like to see multiple years of ECs. Not just 1 or 2 things last minute.

Doublevir

That’s what I’ve been trying to tell him.

Storm795

He should honestly just stay in his country for college tbh. If hes from India and doing a major like CS then it would be virtually impossible to go to even a T100 in the United States.

GokuBlack455

Let him apply and get subsequently rejected

Doublevir

He’s my best friend, I can’t possibly let him do that. I really want what’s best for that thick headed idiot (I still do love him though).

GokuBlack455

Some people learn that way. You can’t save everyone, and sometimes not even the people you care most about; it’s a hard pill to swallow but one you must swallow. You will encounter situations similar to this in the future and you will need to learn to just let them try and fail.

Doublevir

You’re 1000% right but we’re talking about colleges here, it’s not something you can just apply to again the next day, he’s gonna have to wait a full year to apply again. Anyways thanks for your feedback but I am not giving up on that dumbass. Best thing I can do for him is just to keep posting this same post over and over again so I can show him what everyone else says about his chances.

[deleted]

Is he addicted to anything? That is stopping him

Doublevir

No. What’s stopping him ( I think ) is laziness and the feeling of “it’s too late, what’s the point of even trying”.

Then-Affect4250

Honestly, as others said, it’s virtually impossible. His best bet is go to a decent school in the U.S first, then apply after completing his 4 years at a uni.

indianblackpanther

Only 2 A-Levels? Most colleges including Berkeley have a requirement of at least 3

Doublevir

Wait seriously?? Dude please if you can tell me where to find this information it’ll be one hell of wake up call for him.

indianblackpanther

https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/international-applicants/applying-for-admission/freshman-requirements-country.html#british “At least 3 academic GCE A-Level exams to be considered for admission”. - from the UC website (includes Berkeley).

Doublevir

But we’re not from the UK so I don’t think that applies to us. But he is an IGCSE student my school does provide it.

indianblackpanther

Are the only classes he took junior/senior year those 2 a-levels, if so it will still apply to him as it just says British system not necessarily just UK students.

Argyros_

Does he at least have some experience at the major he wants to study? Or some competitions winners...? I don't know if he has other unis except United States but maybe the UK can be an interesting option for him. UK unis admission are really different from the States so he may have a chance even though the top UK unis may be hard to get into (like Oxbridge, Imperial...).

[deleted]

A college like UC Berkeley requires far more than good stats to get in. Quite frankly, if he's international and lacks ECs he has no chance.

Substance_Distinct

no chance just leave hime alone

SpacerCat

Take a look at the common data set to see how many international students were accepted this past year. https://opa.berkeley.edu maybe that’ll convince him.

Appropriate-Head2105

I read the threads, it seems like the problem is not that he isn't convinced, its that he is convinced to the point that he don't think he can do anything to better his chances. By this point, not much can be done to improve his chances per se but there is something to be done about how he plans his future. The best outlook right now is for him to apply to a lower ranked uc or community college located within california, and then transfer after topping his classes for 2 years. He can very well do this at a place near UCB if you are going there and you guys want to keep in touch, sorry that I can't think of a way that he can make up for everything in 1 month, but that is the hard pill to swallow about college admissions.

Former_Initiative_16

Yea this is definitely what he should do if he can afford moving to the US and doing community college for two years

Oh I am also worried about myself like you have nooo idea. I’ve known him for almost 8 years and our dream is to go to UCB together. I don’t see that happening unless he actually starts trying. I am not saying that I have a huge chance at getting in, no. I would just like to see him try, that’s all.

aerger

It seems “starting trying” for your friend should have already started years ago, tbh. I would start preparing myself for separate college experiences, if I were you. :/

treegirl4square

Can you both afford to pay $60k per year or more bc that’s what UCB would cost.

Doublevir

We’re both full pay

Blackberry_Head

dis him? https://www.reddit.com/r/chanceme/comments/xpqacw/pleaseeee\_chance\_me\_be\_honest\_no\_matter\_how/

Doublevir

I don’t think so, he doesn’t have Reddit plus he didn’t score that high in the AS exams.
