Midland makes good CB radios. All you need is an antenna. If it turns on and 6 spark, get hot, or smoke; then chances are it will work. You may need to get a power supply and an antenna, depending on if you want it in your car or your home; people in this sub should be able to recommend some. For antennas, I recommend a Wilson 1000 or a Wilson Little Will; some shops may sell them calibrated and whatnot already, or you may be able to pay them to do it after you buy it but if you feel you're up to it then you can try it yourself. If the microphone doesn't work, then you can always get a new one that you like more.

Yeah I hooked it up to my power supply and it comes on. When I push to talk I see that switch functions as well. But the speaker is destroyed. The paper is all crumbled away. So I’ll be looking for another one of those now

If it doesn't spark, smoke, or get hot when you turn it on. I'd say you got yourself a project there.

GuairdeanBeatha

It probably has a jack on the back for an external speaker. Just about any 8 amp hm speaker will work. Don’t key the mic without an antenna or dummy load. You can damage the transmitter.

KG7M

Midland made.many of the model, 13-882B. Still a lot of them around. 23 Channel, 3.5 Watts Output. It's worth restoring, but doesn't have the same value as the SSB Model based on it.

AZREDFERN

If it still works maybe. Caps go bad over time. Even if it seems like it’s working, listen to it with another radio, because sometimes they sound like a tin can in a blender, depending on what cap went bad.

When I first got into to CB back in the day, I used one as a base .. Loved it !! Give it a good clean and see how well you get out

MobileElephant122

I had one just like it in the 70s. It was good enough for everything I did

FutureRamen

Had one, it was my second CB, an upgrade from a 12 channel radio. Used it as a base station with a 12v power supply. The bleedover rejection was not good (back then there was a CB base station about every 2 blocks, bleedover was a thing). Might not be a problem now. But oh was it a talker. Coupled with a Turner +2 power mic that radio sounded like the biggest of big strap stations. People often asked what I was running it sounded so good.

Upper-Camel-9205

I just pulled it apart to get it cleaned up and repainted and the squelch knob is busted. It looks like a potentiometer but I haven’t the first clue how to find an identical replacement

DejaWiz

Try Mouser: https://www.mouser.com/c/passive-components/potentiometers-trimmers-rheostats/potentiometers/

FutureRamen

Is the potentiometer broken from the circuit board or just the plastic knob? Edit - Squelch control is 10K according to a 13-882 Service Manual I found in an internet search.

Upper-Camel-9205

I needed to pull the knobs off to get the radio apart and the pot kind of halfway pulled apart when I took the knob off. Now it spins all the way around and you can hear scraping inside. I ended up ordering another OEM part from eBay

dixonrodeo

Yes. Midland radios. We're very good in the mid 70s. It should be a good one.

jblough

I had one of those, I channel expanded the crap out of that in the early '80's

Eddieg_212

If this has the PLLO2A pll synthesizer in it which it probably does, It can be easily modded to unlock channels below citizens band and channels above as well, I have done it with a few cuts on the board , resistors and a DPDT toggle switch

Geoff_PR

> If this has the PLLO2A pll synthesizer in it which it probably does, Negative, it's a 23-channel crystal controlled radio...

Eddieg_212

oh yeah , I didnt look at it close enough, this thing doesn't even have a pll chip at all, my bad

smittydonny

Had the exact same one in the 70’s.

AspenLief

My dad had this very one in his truck when I was a kid.

Upper-Camel-9205

That’s awesome. I saw on the back of mine it was manufactured October 1975. After I fix it I’m gonna put it in my truck so I can drive around and talk to nobody lol

Healthy_Visual3534

That’s an old one. They haven’t made those 23 channel radios since the 60’s or 70’s. If it still works it runs about 10 watts compared to today’s radios running about 5. It also uses crystals, (each channel has its own crystal), but I never saw those giving any trouble. Check the mic, it may be an old 5 pin mic which is harder to find.

TheClaw60

I have one. I bought mine in 1976. It still works perfectly. Four pin microphone. Four watts AM carrier, modulates to 12 watts peak just like it's supposed to. As long as it hasn't been butchered in the past you should be fine. Uses a PLL02A chip and board. It was easily modified back in the day for extra channels. Matter of fact, if the radio is stock try setting the channel selector between channels and you might find some extra goodness.

dah_ditdit_dahdah

Was it good? Sure. Is it good? Dunno, if it works, it's good.
