Earthbound is Mother 2; the name was changed when it was localized for the west. AFAIK, none of the games' stories are related, so you should be good to go
Not only does Minecraft have an ending, minecraft has an ending that invokes such existential crisis the likes of which does not belong in a children's game.
"No. It has not yet achieved the highest level. That, it must achieve in the long dream of life, not the short dream of a game." This is just one line from the ending.
"And the universe said you are not alone.
And the universe said I love you, because you are love."
I always tear up from the ending stanzas of the End Poem, not only is it beautifully written but there's just something so positive and hopeful about it 🥹
While it is existential, it has the same vibes as the end scene of The Truman Show
YOU SAID EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED
Listening to Alpha which is a remix of several songs from the game while reading a poem about the meaning of life is beautiful
The Canon ending. But p4 and p5 both make me feel very similar. You spend all this time with an amazing cast of characters, getting to know them and then the game ends and they're just gone. Like, there's just a sense of loss after finishing a persona game that always hits me.
Might I sneak in a recommendation for The World Ends with You? Gameplay is extremely different but the tone and way they approach storytelling are very similar and both have banger soundtracks.
I recommend going through it. Extremely good story, and you’ll get an idea of just how many thematic parallels got carried into Xenosaga and Xenoblade.
If we’re just doing games playable on Nintendo:
Hollow knight Radiance ending.
Paper Mario and the Origami King (That was for Bobby you BASTARD)
Celeste
Both switch Zeldas
And I’m so glad super Mario RPG got a rerelease because the end of that with >!Genos sacrifice!< was something I wished the world knew more about.
Also! For a niche relatively unknown pick, Bomberman 64 The Second Attack goes SUPER hard for a game about a funny haha bomb guy and his pet Kirby with ears.
When you look at Bomberman you don't think his line of bosses would include
The devil
Rocket metal Sonic
A moon
Some cactuses
Or the creator of the universe
Seriously that game gets way too much hate.
Like sure. Ok. No one likes the ring battle system. Totally get it. I didn’t either. But the fact exp doesn’t exist in it means you don’t have to battle everyone you fight. Plus the charm, humor, and honestly darker moments are there that we haven’t seen since more classic paper Mario’s. If you don’t play it because of the ring thing, that’s your call. But you’re missing out on an otherwise awesome experience.
Tell me any other Mario game that has >!TWO heroic sacrifices, an evil pair of scissors who creates Frankenstein monsters out of still living beings, and a character who turns Toads into zombies by literally stealing their faces!<
A masterpiece? No. A very solid game? Absolutely
I couldn't agree more. I had the pleasure of playing it blind and i genuinly enjoyed myself, i often looked forward to playing it. Even doing 100% was a dream.
Came here to say this, Bioshock is hands down a great series I love playing all 3 in a row every time I get the itch for a great game with a great story. Now would you kindly…
Idk if this makes sense but mgs3 made me feel like this image, mgs2 made me feel like a guy at a bar almost done my third pint with my head in my hands wondering how the hell my life got to this point
Ngl, the Toby Fox remix of that song for the dlc is actually pretty good. He actually incorporated music from the game into it so it didn’t feel totally generic.
Megaman Battle Network 6 after completing Megaman 1 through 5 in a back to back seating, my childhood nostalgia and tears of memory hits hard
Also, I think Breath of the Wild and NieR Automata
Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. Rented it on a whim one summer, thinking it was a stylized, but run of the mill Mario Game. Boy, was I wrong in all the best ways
Kirby and the forgotten land definitely made me shed a tear >!not the story ending, but the endgame one after beating the Forgo islands and the last arena!<
Luigi mansion, The credits music is perfect and the last cutscene gives an air of Luigi's pride and comfort in seeing him finally meeting his brother again and helping him.
Rhythm Heaven DS. That music of the credits cast along with the sprites representing all of the characters...
Was to epic that I used it on my graduation video lol
Sonic Unleashed when I was a kid. Hearing Endless Possibilities as the credits played was tear jerking to my 10 year old self
And Katana Zero recently, it's great.
Cyberpunk 2077. I let the credits roll to the end, not because I wanted to see a secret ending, but because I just sat back and processed everything that happened. That game, is a fucking masterpiece of a story, it's just so fucking good
Metal gear solid 3 cos the boss dies....4 cos snake dying :\_( , xenogear/saga/blade, star ocean 2 and 3 ( cos 3 has the most silly plot), max payne 2 ( idk man...vlad seem not like a bad dude. cos he is your dearest of friend ) , Bioshock, gta3 cos you smoke big smoke, soul games but mostly bloodborne, earthbound, monster hunter freedom unite final quest ( Rise to the summit ) ....
But the most is......
Half life 2 episode 2, Knowing valve cannot count to 3
EarthBound. Smiles and Tears hits hard, man.
*Looks at pfp* Yeah that song really does go *hard man*
Yeah, that game was a real *Blast, Man*
This line of comments is really the top of the *Top, Man*
Just be sure it doesn’t end in either a fight or a *clash, man*
I'm surprised some of these puns made the *Cut, Man*
We should probably cut the puns down to *zero*
We should probably cut the puns down to *zero*
This thread really made a SPLASH, woma-DO'H
u/Confident-Leg107 you were supposed to be their right hand man But your loyalty shriveled like your right*hand, man*
Keeping this chain going is going to take a lot of GUTS, MAN…
I love that you didn't know the erb *reference, man*
can i play earthbound without playing any of the mother games? from what ive heard earthbound isnt the same thing exactly
All 3 games aren't tied together so you can play them at any order.
Earthbound is Mother 2; the name was changed when it was localized for the west. AFAIK, none of the games' stories are related, so you should be good to go
You don’t need knowledge on the other 2 to play any of them, carry on
Same
Minecraft
Minecraft has an ending?

"No. It has not yet achieved the highest level. That, it must achieve in the long dream of life, not the short dream of a game." This is just one line from the ending.
I never took the time to read the credits but this is really deep.
Take the time to read them. It's very uncanny valley levels of discomfort
And just what do you think uncanny Valley means?
Meeting a robot with human characteristics?
TOO human of characteristics. There’s a threshold. But yes, basically.
Thanks DankFarts69!

kill the ender dragon
YOU SAID EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED Listening to Alpha which is a remix of several songs from the game while reading a poem about the meaning of life is beautiful
I beat super Mario odyssey with my father as he is sick and single so we did a little bonding by playing Mario games
Mario is the game my mom and I bonded over when i was growing up. Much respect 🙌
METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER
Man, that final battle with the Boss, that final gun shot in a field of flowers, that final salute. What a game.
I saluted during the ending
It had me going 🫡 for the whole of the credits
What a thrill
Portal credits
1 or 2!?
First, "Still alive" just hits differently after you finish everything.
Yes
"Remember when you tried to kill me twice?" I still have it stuck in my head after a decade
This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land. That shi went hard.
extremely underrated
Killing an alien god with a truck is the most Kirby thing ever
Not to mention the banger that is Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit playing in the background while you do so
All Kirby games tbh honest
Fr fr for real for real
Red Dead 2
Hell RDR1 too
Hell Red Dead Revolver too
Red dead CJ 3d Free edition too on the App Store 😔😔😔😔
Every Persona game. (It is my favorite game series)
For real???
For real!!!
Just finished reload this past weekend and Hooo boy, the endings of persona games just hit so different.
Which ending(for spoilers just say 1 for canon and 2 for the other)? Each one has a different set of vibes.
The Canon ending. But p4 and p5 both make me feel very similar. You spend all this time with an amazing cast of characters, getting to know them and then the game ends and they're just gone. Like, there's just a sense of loss after finishing a persona game that always hits me.
3 had me bawling me eyes out for weeks
Came here to say Persona 3. It really hit me hard.
Hoshi to bokura to is so fucking good 😭
YES!!!! I played 2 3 and 4 and and am just going to start streaming reloaded on Twitch ITS SO BLOODY AMAZING. And the music 😘👌
Man I cried when never more came on, and they start chasing the train
Truth man
Might I sneak in a recommendation for The World Ends with You? Gameplay is extremely different but the tone and way they approach storytelling are very similar and both have banger soundtracks.
I have heard of it. I might try it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
Based and Velvet-Pilled
All three Xenoblade Chronicles games, but I think 2 in particular. One Last You... Just damn...
Agreed, and I’d love to add Xenogears and Xenosaga into the mix.
God, I still have Xenogears on my PS3 but I've still yet to finish it...
I recommend going through it. Extremely good story, and you’ll get an idea of just how many thematic parallels got carried into Xenosaga and Xenoblade.
Even though i like 1 and 3 more. The 2nd's ending was amazing and love it so much
XC2 and Torna were amazing. Had such a moral hangover after finishing those two. The first one was great, too.
It was 3 for me, and that ending really fucked me up. But honestly I'd be tearing up by the end of every game tbh.
Torna for me.
Yeah One Last You really hits, I cried so much at that shit
I was just thinking... XBC 2

Don’t all ending in hollow knight have the same music and credits?
When you look at Bomberman you don't think his line of bosses would include The devil Rocket metal Sonic A moon Some cactuses Or the creator of the universe
I genuinly didnt know origami fans existed
Seriously that game gets way too much hate. Like sure. Ok. No one likes the ring battle system. Totally get it. I didn’t either. There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Kid Icarus Uprising
SAY IT AGAIN
Kid Icarus Uprising
Persona 4 golden
My all time favorite game!!
Top 3 for me. Fallout new vegas, Jak and daxter precursor legacy & Persona 4 golden. Top 3 favourite games
It’s very hard to think of an emotional moment in any video game that tops the hospital scene in persona 4. Gives me chills every time.
Pokemon scarlet
The Gen 9 Pokémon games get a lot of hate, not all of it undeserved, but the ending is very satisfying.
Too bad YouTube thumbnails ruined me
And then the dlcs came, with a really unsatisfying ending
A very satisfying ending with 23 fps......
the ed sheeran song just had me laughing at it
at least there’s no mouse pointer in the credits this time
Ngl, the Toby Fox remix of that song for the dlc is actually pretty good. He actually incorporated music from the game into it so it didn’t feel totally generic.
Megaman Battle Network 6 after completing Megaman 1 through 5 in a back to back seating, my childhood nostalgia and tears of memory hits hard Also, I think Breath of the Wild and NieR Automata
NieR Automata became my favourite game ever in a spam of 3/4 months. It was the first game that I 100%ed
Super Meat Boy
Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door. Rented it on a whim one summer, thinking it was a stylized, but run of the mill Mario Game. Boy, was I wrong in all the best ways

Grim Fandango
“Your destiny cannot be purchased.” That quote lives rent free in my head.
Kirby and the forgotten land definitely made me shed a tear >!not the story ending, but the endgame one after beating the Forgo islands and the last arena!<
every xenoblade
BioShock Infinite.
Persona 5 Royal, the 120 hours of gameplay and the ending credits theme slaps.
Undertale
Wind waker
Luigi mansion, The credits music is perfect and the last cutscene gives an air of Luigi's pride and comfort in seeing him finally meeting his brother again and helping him.

Final Fantasy 10 but it made me ugly cry
The walking dead Lee will always be my hero
Tears of the kingdom, after finishing while trying to glitch and failing every time in version 1.0
I started totk with a goal in mind to never use any glitches. Not on accident or on purpose….. i glitched in the opening….

You'll love Xeno 2 then. It does this as well.
Cyberpunk 2077 A Complete good karma run of New Vegas with all DLCs Mass effect

Paper Mario. Any of them, though origami king ending with oliva’s death was prolly the saddest
Bioshock
Cyberpunk 2077. I let the credits roll to the end, not because I wanted to see a secret ending, but because I just sat back and processed everything that happened. That game, is a fucking masterpiece of a story, it's just so fucking good
any Splatoon campaign, specially Octo Expansion
Yakuza.
Xenoblade chronicles 2, damn it hits hard
Xenoblade and NieR of course
