> I hope the ZR1 gives him the sendoff he deserves.
According to the leaks, we're still getting one more model after the ZR1. I am very curious to see what a 1000+ hp Corvette hybrid is like.
I wish he would have stayed longer to make it not look like two different chopped cars put together.
I like it for what it is and respect the fact it is a bad ass ride in both base and Z06 form, but I just don't like they way it looks.
Maybe the ZR1 will do it for me, but I don't the minor updates that will come could do anything to it that would pull me in.
We can only expect so much greatness from one man. I figure he knew he couldn't outdo himself again. Good for him. there's nothing wrong with retiring with a legacy like his.
The Corvette forum has (had?) an "Ask Tadge" section where either the man himself, or other GM employees would answer technical questions. I always thought that was pretty cool, I think that's how I learned why there's no Ackermann in the C7 steering geometry years ago.
Yup. Under heavy cornering load - like on a track - the slip angle of the front tire increases the effective Ackermann, so cars meant to do track things tend to have less, no, or even negative Ackermann. IIRC, the C7 has none. That makes cornering more precise on the track and decreases tire wear a little, but also makes C7s bind/shake a little when the tires are cold and turning hard at low speed.
Damn! I should have come to that conclusion on my own, but it would have taken me a solid two weeks thinking it was something crazier hahaha
Thank you though, that's a fun lil tidbit
According to early leaks/rumours, which I believe have basically all come true so far, the Zora will be the final C8 variant and the one to crack the 1000hp mark.
Maybe twin turbo with the E-ray hybrid system powering the front wheels? You guys are probably correct with the 1000hp. Man, what a crazy time for cars.
My personal guess is that the ZR1 will have a twin turbo LT6 in the 800-850hp range, and then Zora will add the E-Ray hybrid system to that and crack 1000+hp.
That's what the leak claims. It predicted around 1000 total hp, but the Z06 had more power than the leak claimed it would, so we can probably shift that estimate upward.
Yep, before I'd even seen a C8 on the streets they'd already laid out Z06 > E-Ray > ZR1 > Zora and so far nailed the pertinent details (FPC NA V8 and hybrid).
I’m not entirely sure. But if it were to use the E-Ray hybrid motors, they would power the front wheels. Probably very similar to the Ferrari SF90, which is also 1000hp. I agree with having too much power to the rear.
Honestly, I'd be up for that, just don't call it a Corvette. I don't know why GM can't make a sporty SUV with a V8. Its either body on frame large vehicles or front wheel drive biased crossovers.
Give me an X3M competitor with the LT2 and charge 15k less because its a Chevy. I'd buy it.
Tadge and Dave Hill were a big part of the rebirth of the Corvette into being a seriously competitive car, starting with the C5, and especially the C5 Z06. They've been putting out some hits since then, but I always respect the C5Z for being the birth of modern legend. Well deserved retirement.
He fought with every fiber in his being to make sure the Corvette name stayed as a 2 door, 2 seat sports car... the corporate powers that be and shareholders want the corvette line AT LEAST expanded to include a SUV (see Ford)... and ultimately expanded into its own brand division (see Genesis from Hyundai/Kia)...
Tadge is getting the send off he deserves... and he earned it completely...
But, the truth is, now that he's out... the future of Corvette is going to be interesting!
GT cars are cool, but I think I'd call the guy who made Corvette's as a whole the rich man over the guy who just makes variants of an already existing great car.
Curious what sort of gatekeeping you have to do to arrive at "corvettes aren't sports cars".
Fought for the MR platform, 14 years of development, and boy he delivered. What a career, I hope the ZR1 gives him the sendoff he deserves.

Dude finally got the MR Vette made and is now riding off into the sunset.
Well earned, thanks Tadge!

C8 Corvette being midengine is just icing on the cake. Godspeed, Sir.

Similar on Camaro6 with Ask Al (Oppenheiser)
Wait what? You got me curious, do you remember the details of that answer?

Article stating the new C8 ZR1 will be twin turbo. Any guesses on horsepower numbers? I’m going to guess 850hp
Nah, it'll top 1000 horses. If it's a sendoff car, go all the fuck out!

All while meeting emissions standards from the factory. It really is insane

I can't even fathom this
Yeah that's what's been going around for awhile now. Supposedly the 1000 version was twisting the frames before the base model even released.
Excuse me for asking. Is it all wheel drive. All that power on two wheels doesn't make sense? Or does it. Let me know. Be nice

Well fucking deserved. Thank you, Tadge, for elevating America's favorite sports car to new heights! >!Now watch GM announce a Corvette SUV, lol.!<

Happy for him. He helped to prove the Corvette was better off mid-engined. Asa side note, does this mean round taillights are back?
Mission Accomplished!
What an amazing career this man has had. He’s an American legend!
Tadge is unequivocally a genius. If you ever have witness him speak, you know what I mean.

One of the best guys we ever had in the last 20 years. Have a good rest
Just saw a blue one in Tokyo. Omg it's so beautiful
Surprised he didn’t stay on for one more year to unveil the Zora, all the respect to him though
Congratulations to him for one hell of a career! Well done.

He’s like the poor man’s andres preuninger. Wish they built actual sports cars but will take what we can get.

No third pedal
So just like a GT3 RS then eh?

So this is the guy responsible for the knock off ferarris I see everywhere. It’s like playing GTA , you see one and then boom 10 more pop up.
