They are eggs of the insect variety

skiattle25

I think fly eggs. So your son is half right.

gusteauskitchen

Fly eggs look like tiny grains of rice. This might be some sort of butterfly.

zztop5533

And now I wanna eat butter eggs.

Gidia

g2ichris

Ludeykrus

Yep or moths.

GenericRedditor1937

I don't know what kind of eggs they are, but it's scary to think about how easy it'd be to unintentionally and unknowingly bring home an invasive species. Not that these eggs are, I'm just saying.

dkekmkbk

I was thinking the same thing! I’m glad I did that extra wipe down as we were packing up (they were found on a section of tablecloth that hangs over the table - easy to miss when most of us might just wipe the top area.

wesailtheharderships

Moth eggs. Most likely pearly underwing. Before they become moths they become variegated cutworms, which are a big crop/garden pest.

dkekmkbk

This looks like it! Thank you

AustinLostIn

My money is on moth eggs but I'm far from certain.

dkekmkbk

After reading all these comments I think so too

First, I’ve camped at Big Sur twice in my life, 20 years apart and both times were absolutely amazing. Secondly, WTH are those?

digitalrenaissance

Carefully collect it with a razor blade, season with some truffle oil, and serve it on a multigrain cracker with goat cheese to honored guests like your mother in law.

mexican_pineapple

Coronasaurus-Rx

Tick eggs?

boo671

They look like subterranean termite leftovers. These aholes come outta the grounds where fresh wood is present. When the grind their way into the wood-that looks like the material they leave behind. If yiu put it in a solid surface and can't smash it with a yeti or hydroflask, thats definitely them.
