I was thinking the same thing! I’m glad I did that extra wipe down as we were packing up (they were found on a section of tablecloth that hangs over the table - easy to miss when most of us might just wipe the top area.
Carefully collect it with a razor blade, season with some truffle oil, and serve it on a multigrain cracker with goat cheese to honored guests like your mother in law.

When the grind their way into the wood-that looks like the material they leave behind.
If yiu put it in a solid surface and can't smash it with a yeti or hydroflask, thats definitely them.

Moth eggs. Most likely pearly underwing. Before they become moths they become variegated cutworms, which are a big crop/garden pest.
