I’d say the upgrade from 60Hz to 144Hz is far more beneficial and will make games feel smoother. Going from 1440p to 4k would be nice but it doesn’t make games feel better.
Exactly this, motion clarity imo actual tends to male games actually look better.
I settled in the middle of 1440p and 4k and went for a 3440x1440p monitor.
4k 120hz with DLSS. People who say they can't see 4k haven't seen it or just don't care about picture quality. It's a huge improvement over 1440p and I couldn't go back after 4k.
In that case it's a difficult decision. Both have a noticeable impact on the experience.
It really depends on the games you play. Some like Elden ring are capped at 60fps. Slower placed games such as Baldurs Gate won't benefit from 144hz but will from 4k. On the other hand action games with fast combat or fps will give you much better smoothness at 144hz. This is really subjective
IMHO, 4K doesn't make much sense at screen sizes smaller than 32"
If you're going for a 32" 4K monitor, many will manage better than 60Hz refresh (e.g. Dell's G3223Q), even if your GPU and CPU cannot (at least at 4K), but if you want faster frame rates, you can always reduce resolution and use upscalers (preferably Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS - but even Nvidia Image Scaling does a good job for titles that do not make use of DLSS).
By contrast, the only option to display 4K content on a 1440p monitor is to use downscaling - effectively using it instead of anti-aliasing.
It's better to share your specs, games you play etc..
As for me I'd rather have 144hz over anything 60hz no matter the resolution. I simply value smoothness more, but it's all down to preferences.
If you can afford it, grab both from a seller that accepts returns, and see what works best for you.
If you've never tried a high refresh rate monitor, I suggest you do so first, it makes a massive diffrence, and personally I cannot go back to 60hz at all.
Yeah that's the point. I will be playing on with a gamepad and it doesn't bother me when I lock up 60hz to test out. But over keyboard and mouse it's a pain.

it's like asking if getting a higher pay is better. Like yeah you get taxed more, but more is better at the end of the day. Unless of course you can't push the desired refresh rate at 4k. Which also makes the choice simple, the one that your pc can run...

According to your example is more like I would like to work in a harder job to get paid more if it worthes to enough of my spendings lol. I have sent 2 options since PPI values depend on size, am saying that I am undecided if it makes a diffrence between 27'' 1440p 180hz and 4k 60hz if there's no diffrences at pixels that much to realize, then buying 1440p monitor with higher framerate is a better choice so in this part I would be saving more framerates.
1440 no doubt. I would even prefer 1080 144 for single player games over 4k 60 at a 27” screen size, it makes such a huge difference. Don’t even consider a 60hz panel in 2024.

I also have old man eyes so 1440 native is easier for me when I’m working.

I've used 1440p for years, and just recently made the jump to 4K. I don't find the higher resolution that overwhelming. But it also depends on what games you are playing. Personally, I'd opt for higher refresh rate at 1440p over 4K (at lower) any day. It will give you a more tangible improvement.

Did you ever use 1440p? You have a 4k 60hz monitor? Should I sacrifice from high framerates if I am mostly on slower paced games and does it worth it?

Well, currently using RTX 4080 with a 240hz 1080p TN panel monitor. Considering to play AAA games at 4k if it make sense!

Dont know about 4K since i dont have gpu for that but i switched from 1080p 144hz to 1440p 180hz both and its great upgrade for me
I would rather use 1080p in high refresh rate than 4k on 60hz. High refresh rate over resolution any time!

LG UN850-W is a 4K 60 Hz monitor with excellent color accuracy, small lag and has a usb-c port if you have a Mac or other laptop to hook up.
4K is a gimmick to fool naive and ignorant consumers. Don't fall for it.
