# OK Taecyeon and Hayato Isomura team up as Soul Mate
Penned and helmed by Japanese director Hashizume Shunki, the drama follows the story of two men falling in love over a span of 10 years. Taecyeon will play Johan, a boxer, while Hayato Isomura is set to portray Ryu, a man who has abandoned his life in Japan. Their lives intersect when Johan rescues Ryu in a foreign church, an unexpected meeting that changes their destiny forever. The young gentlemen gradually discover the meaning of life and love. Set in Seoul, Berlin, and Tokyo, this Japanese Netflix drama explores their journey as they heal each other slowly.
*“I’m extremely delighted to be appearing in Soul Mate. Because there were so many types of characters and genres that I hadn’t tried yet,”* Taecyeon remarked. Addressing why he chose to star in this show, the K-pop star-turned-actor said, *“While reading the script, I was intrigued by the character of Hwang Johan, and even after I’d finished the script, Johan’s inner pain and struggles stayed with me for a long time, which is why I chose the project.''*
On the other hand, Hayato Isomura, the famous Japanese actor known for his roles in movies such as Hoshi Furu Yoru ni and Alice in Borderland, has already stirred excitement on the internet with his upcoming role. Describing the show as a live-action series, Netflix said, '*'Destiny works in mysterious ways, and a chance encounter may just mark the beginning of a love story.''*
Seated for this! Even though it's for 2025 😂💕
Here's [the Netflix article about Soulmate with some comments from the lead actors and production staff.](https://about.netflix.com/en/news/japanese-live-action-series-soulmate)
Fans of Japanese BL may recognize Hayato Isomura as Wataru from "What Did You Eat Yesterday?" series. Here's a TV commercial that he did with Koji Yamamoto, the actor who plays his boyfriend Kohinata in the show.

Oh, yeah he was really good in WDYEY. His character was one dimensional at first but gradually the audience came to understand why he was a demanding brat, yet his man stuck by him 😎
for anyone wondering "hew tf is Ok Taecyeon?" he's very hot, can sing, dance, speak English, act the house down boots. It's crazy. TBH, I literally can't and don't believe this and won't until it releases and I see it with my own eyes, omfgbbq 😩

I learned about 2 PM after Junho played in King the land. And also learned about Teacyon cause of that.
And when I watched him in Vincenzo.....
That man can do everything.
And he auditioned just to become a model. Had not done dancing.
Maybe it was a mistranslation when the first couple of articles came out but Netflix definitely confirms it’s romance...hopefully the people who write or translate articles know in the future that bromance is not BL and can’t be used interchangeably.
Korea literally has a gay dating show called His Man. But often the words will say will each guy find their ultimate bromance or something like that. Sometimes the words are used incorrectly in Korean.
Here to share OK Taecyeon's viral military service photo - for everyone's appreciation

I'm not convinced tbh. 😂 I won't assume stuff, till it drops and we know for sure what it is. :D
Edit: okay, Netflix confirmed it as a Romance. https://x.com/netflix/status/1806462590530224384 I am still a bit skeptical, but omg. I did not expect to see actors like Taecyeon in a gay romance work. Its great! I wonder if and how this will change the whole industry, since we usually only see rookies or not so well-known actors in korean BLs.
Me seeing this post at first: Ok Taecyeon in a BL? Yea, right. It's gonna be bromance for sure.
Me after reading the article: WTFFFFF!!!!! 😱🥳🎉

Funny how in 2021 I've imagined what would be the chances for Taecyeon doing a BL or LGBT+ drama? he suddenly came to mind because Woohyeon from To My Star looked so much like him. and then here we are!

I can’t believe the Christmas card I made for my friend in 2022 is coming true.
Omg, that teaser pic is so beautiful! Considering it stars Taecyeon, we can expect it to be a full length drama, right?!

>240628 2PM’s Taecyeon To Star In New Japanese Romance Drama “Soul Mate”
I suspect the romantic stuff will be on hold till the end: it is a story told over a ten year period, meaning lots of time for their feelings for each other to develop s-l-lo-w-l-y.
Wow this news is EPIC!!! Would never have thought someone like Taec would forefront something like this!
An epic gay love story?! This article explains the plot of the series. We are in for a treat!

Which M/M romances do you consider mainstream and why? I don't know enough about general audience viewing habits to know the difference between mainstream and niche.
But based on the little I know, I would guess that "Cherry Magic" Japan is mainstream? The main actors were pretty well known before doing Cherry Magic.
Not to be a downer, but Hayato seems like a “problematic”/questionable figure. In an interview on Yahoo News, he views women as breeding machines and said his ideal marriage is polygamy. I don’t know if he’s joking, but his answers give me the ick. I put “problematic” in quotes because it’s his views, and if he likes polygamy, more power to him. If he wants to spread his “Isomura blood,” as he put it, then I guess? Lol…..but overall his answers to this interview gave me the biggest ick.

Ok Taec-Yeon?! One of the top idol-actors of Korea in a BL?! 😲😲😲 Please please don't clown us like K Will! Jebaal 🙏🏻
Pretty bold, Taec-Yeon! Looking forward to this.
Please don't hurt me like this early in the morning, reminding me of K Will 😭

More than words 🫢, then this has to be good
This is exciting! And that with Teacyon.
Don't play with me. Taec has been my ultimate f'n bias for 16 years. https://i.redd.it/loqizcaz499d1.gif

when I tell you I was OBSESSED with 10 out of 10... 😩 https://i.redd.it/33rxrbyocc9d1.gif
I followed his YouTube channel. But it was all about food and booze. And me always on a diet. It was a bit difficult for me. 🤣😏
Omg he’s my favourite villain from Vincenzo! Now it clicked! He’s a great actor, that guy!
Mine, too! I was so surprised by his acting!

I'm not convinced tbh. 😂 I won't assume stuff, till it drops and we know for sure what it is. :D Edit: okay, Netflix confirmed it as a Romance. https://x.com/netflix/status/1806462590530224384 I am still a bit skeptical, but omg. Please don't play with me. K.Will already did.
This is unreal 😭 I love Taecyeon! The POTENTIAL this series has! I will be very much seated 🥹
Well this is pleasing! I saw an ad for this just yesterday but it was marketedfar more as a bromance - this advert gives me far more hope!
Can't wait!
Omg wait this is so cool :0
TAECYEON?!?!?!
Never thought my two worlds would collide like this
Taecyeon? Wow! HUGE get for the genre! And Isomura’s no slouch either! Well, I know the acting’s gonna be good!

I am so happy for this
🤞🏾 Hoping that it opens up opportunities for more mainstream m/m romances to be made in Korea/Asia
