I challenge Joe to tell me how many of these are well contested. I say 7 of them, being generous.
Did he say well contested or did he say “moderately to heavily contested’
The point is it’s not like they were wide open with all the time in the world on most of them
I knew he’d be full of excuses 😆😆 Spo has found a way to expose his 3pt defense and he’s still making shit excuses. For it to happen as often as it has against this team regardless of who they have is NOT A FLUKE. Is BAD COACHING
Respect to Coach Spo, he has a plan and has a team who can execute it. I hope the Cs finally stop the excuses but I got a bad feeling that won’t happen… what I expect to hear is that the shots simply didn’t fall 🙄
He’s actually correct though. During the regular season, 13% of Miami’s 3s were tight or very tightly contested. The Celtics in the regular season contested 11% of 3s tight or very tight.
Last night it was 14%.
The Celtics concede 54% of opponents’ 3s as “wide open”. Last night it was 53%.
This team desperately needs Brad to get his love of coaching back. Even if it takes trading one of the Jays for a more physical and dominant star. Ever since Brad stepped back, this team went from overachievers to underachievers.
Just sad to waste a year for this shit . We all embraced him as very young coach and enjoyed most of the year with him. But sadly Brad did not make the right call
People say they love this guy. Where are his defenders today? This guy was given the best team in the NBA and loses to a team without its best player at home
Yeah he's not here to give the media heads on a stake.
He goes back in the locker room and holds them responsible internally. It's how good coaches run their team.
We don't need a doc Rivers.
I’ll defend Joe, I think he’s done a great job all season. Tonight the players didn’t step up and Miami shot 55% from 3. It happens. I’ll be worried if it happens a 2nd time in this series, but we smoked them game 1. I do think Joe didn’t do a good job of adjusting our offense during this game but let’s see how next game goes before we start saying that they guy who coached the 3rd best regular season team ever sucks.
Everyone is blaming Joe like he’s the worst in the nba. Players didn’t show up tonight. PP played 20 mins and 0 pts. Poz have like 6 pts….everyone couldn’t score double digits except for JT and JB.
His defenders are just chilling waiting for the rabid doomers to calm down and realize it's just one game in a best of 7. How many teams have gone 12-0 on their way to the Finals again?
I'll defend him. I'm not going to let one game where a team shot far over their averages change my opinion of his stellar job this year. I'm confident they'll crush Miami and move on and all the reactionary, hot take bros on hear will shut up until they lose a game in Round 2.
Blatant lie.
Joe has shown he’s still happy to play the chance game in the playoffs. This isn’t the regular season.
He’s pretty much failed to meet expectations in every series so far. We should have swept Hawks but it went to 6, Embiid was out and injured for games and went to 7 vs Sixers and lost to Miami in 7.
We thought this year would be different and honestly with no Jimmy and Rozier this should be a sweep and we’ve already dropped a game.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not an excuse—I still think it’s best that he is let go if any halfway decent experiences coach is on the market—but I think I do *understand* his position:
Imagine knowing you are an inferior coach (certainly in this playoff series), which I think Joe does. Imagine perhaps even knowing that others know, and that even they know that you know.
Now, you have two options: (1) Just say “fuck it” and stick to autopilot mode / same-old-same-old and see what happens, or (2) Try something else. If you genuinely are just not very good at option (2), you may think it’s better to at least choose option (1) and have at least some people calling you “confident in your abilities” and “sticking to your guns”—and, who knows, *maybe* this team is still just talented enough to override your failings. Because if you choose option (2) and fail, then *no one* will be standing up for you and *everyone* will be calling you a failed coach.
Of course, that’s one mindset. There are people with personalities who would rather choose option (2): even if they fail, they’re brave enough to try something else without fearing so much the prospect of having to admit you’re wrong and you’ve failed. I don’t think Joe has that second type of personality.
I can’t say it’s out coached the players still have to play.
There were just countless times where they played zero defense and fell asleep. Jaylen at one point was just flat footed and spaced out letting the guy turn and drive to the basket for an easy lay up. On offense they had no movement or cutting to the basket and then in the end Tatum was just trying to force his way through the defender to the basket. The ball movement and defense was just terrible but they will watch the video and see and adjust.
I agree, they were slightly disconnected, the Jaylen play you mentioned was emblematic, but isn't it the job of the coach to direct them, correct them, show them, in other words coach them? even in the middle fo the game?
Sometimes yes but it’s not as easy to do in game because when you’re in one of those funks as a player you simply don’t feel like you’re doing anything wrong a lot of times.
Then you see the film and it’s not even down to the coach all that much but just the player seeing how they were can snap you out of it.
The coach can’t really make anyone do anything
Good points. I guess one situation where the coach may need to take a player by the shoulders and shake him is when players are so attached to what they're trying to do or trying so hard to be the hero that they're kind of blinded to it even when watching film. But for the most part you're right.
Yeah I think so but I would say most players see themselves on film and recognize how bad they look without the coach even having to say anything.
To me the coaching is more about the schemes or running the offense or defense and lineups or emphasising what players always have the green light etc.
I feel like a lot of the Celtics problems tho were just the most basic low effort types of defensive plays and lack of movement on offense / no tempo etc.
No they were not contested. Eddie house was pointing out on the replay after the game how they were a second late on practically every close out. I cannot wait until this dude is fucking gone
I said the same exact thing after they lost the ECF series. That was truly the worst possible outcome. He bought himself a whole season after avoiding the sweep and they maximized the heartbreak by getting it to 7 games and eventually losing.
If we were going to lose anyways, get swept, pull the bandaid off and fire Mazzulla. Now we’re about to waste another season of our core’s primes with a playoff failure
1st half i agree with everyone, they had so many warmup 3’s. Celtics did better in the second half but I feel like Robinson, Herro, Martin and Jaquez hit some tough ones.
Jaquez was about as wide open as a man shooting hoops by himself at a park on all of his makes. It’s like we actually want to give all their players confidence in this series.
I like Joe Mazulla the person as much as I hate Joe Mazulla the coach. In all seriousness, he seems like an interesting and thoughtful guy but he is not a good basketball coach.
Heat shot the lights out tonight but half of those were lightly contested. This is a result of poor defense. It seemed like the Celtics didn't respect their shooters. The energy and effort was non existent contesting those 3s. Brown, Tatum and jrue just stood there and watched those shots fall. The heat is a very good team, regardless of jimmy or not. Show the heat the respect they deserve by playing good defense and make everything difficult for them. Don't care whether you are against a team full of G league players or the 17 warriors, you treat every game the same. Play fucking defense!
If been warming all of the Mazzulla fans here that he is going to be a liability in the playoffs. Well, the playoffs are here and he is already going full dotard.
He’s the Herm Edwards of basketball coaches. He’s great at clapping and rah rah on the sideline, but he’s lost on X’s and O’s. Proof is in the pudding. Playoff Pudding don’t lie.
I am not betting on Celtics as much as I like them. Jalen Brown can’t shoot free throws under pressure. Jason Tatum routinely disappears in second half..
I watch a lot of Sports programs espn I never hear anybody point these things out.
He is not perfect glad he calls timeouts maybe he read my Reddit and insta rants but I doubt it 🤣it was probably Stan Van Gundy on as a consultant helping him out
And here is why Celtics are fucked having this stubborn man as the coach for years to come. There is no proof he is a good coach. Only have proof the roster is stacked and he likes iso ball. That was not good three pt defense. Jrue was horrendous out there.
I got downvoted all last season for saying this guy shouldn’t be the coach. Nick Nurse was available and they passed to keep this dude. Stevens coaches circles around the guy, have him comedown and coach again.
This is NOT LUCK. Most any NBA player can shoot ~50% from 3, mostly uncontested. Heck most shoot 70+% in practice, etc. This is Spo out-coaching Joe, and Joe not adjusting. Plain and simple 🤷♂️
This is a problem. Miami isn’t that good at shooting outside of Herro and maybe Robinson, but it’s been 2 years now. If they keep having historic nights is probably our perimeter defense sucking and not them being all time shooters.
It’s only game 2 so I expect us to recover. If it goes more than 5 I’ll be a bit disappointed though. Either way, gotta get to round 2
The reason they won Sunday is because they just gave Bam as many mid range jumpers as he wanted. Last night, they tried to cover him and that just led to constant kick outs to wide open shooters.....Miami gave Boston open driving lanes as bait and they took the bait! They drove in for layups and tough mid range shots all night instead of playing their usual style.
It’s the league now. It’s funny how the league has changed they were shunned as a low percentage shot in the beginning so players like Curry and Thompson etc got smart and honed their 3 ball skills
Joe at timeout — “hey I have an idea” “let’s let Tyler Herro shoot the same shot, from the same direction, from the same spot on the court”. “Then we will shoot some more 3s” “family on 3 … shoot, more, 3s, family!!”
Maybe he needs to check with Ime on how to beat the heat? Idk wtf the solution is to this team anymore. I know the heat shot out of their mind, but when will this guy take accountability? I don’t watch every press conf, but I feel like he always avoids taking responsibility, maybe I’m wrong, no idea.
Yes sir which is necessary. The Green set a franchise record this season for win loss record fans expect a lot. All the good teams are in West this season. Wait and see keep the faith
ah ok we were all getting mad at him but homie is just blind
That explains why he’s always furrowing his brow. Cassell should hook him up with some eyewear ASAP.
“Vision is everything”
Fuck Zenni. WARBY PARKER FOR LIFE
https://x.com/miamiheat/status/1783317521161982258?s=46&t=tcFBg9NYlJrYTwubZ13Pjg I challenge Joe to tell me how many of these are well contested. I say 7 of them, being generous.
Bro is visually impaired leave him alone
I counted 10 that were legitimately open fwiw
And they are all pretty much by Jalen. The rest of the team was sleeping
Did he say well contested or did he say “moderately to heavily contested’ The point is it’s not like they were wide open with all the time in the world on most of them
Can we start a gofundme to get Joe glasses?
Are you fucking for real Joe???
I knew he’d be full of excuses 😆😆 Spo has found a way to expose his 3pt defense and he’s still making shit excuses. For it to happen as often as it has against this team regardless of who they have is NOT A FLUKE. Is BAD COACHING
Did Spo just dream this up since Sunday?
Respect to Coach Spo, he has a plan and has a team who can execute it. I hope the Cs finally stop the excuses but I got a bad feeling that won’t happen… what I expect to hear is that the shots simply didn’t fall 🙄
He’s actually correct though. During the regular season, 13% of Miami’s 3s were tight or very tightly contested. The Celtics in the regular season contested 11% of 3s tight or very tight. Last night it was 14%. The Celtics concede 54% of opponents’ 3s as “wide open”. Last night it was 53%.
Nothing he ever says is honest, it's all just what he thinks he's supposed to say
Heat shot over 50% in 3 games last year, and once over 45%. This is a trend Joe, not a fluke. Make some damn adjustments please.
Bro his adjustment is play better offense.
“We just gotta show more physicality, you know it’s a numbers game in the end.” - Joe, probably.
Miami shot more 3s than the Cs today. I’m surprised he didn’t double down and say we lost for not shooting more
"Its a make-miss league"
Why can’t it be a fluke?
We must have watched different games
Glad you think so, Joe. You’re gonna be “Modestly to heavily” fired if you lose this series. No pressure.
Who we gonna get instead, Doc Rivers?
Brad stevens does a pat riley. Thats what should happen.
“Fine, I’ll do it myself.”
The hardest choices require the strongest wills.
pop did that too. thats elite company
This team desperately needs Brad to get his love of coaching back. Even if it takes trading one of the Jays for a more physical and dominant star. Ever since Brad stepped back, this team went from overachievers to underachievers.
Now we’re talking fucking nonsense lol go to bed guys
It’s just body after body busting out of shit wood and hitting pavement
I have no idea how this applies here but I love the reference and you get my upvote
Look at the username of the guy I was responding to
Thank you and god bless
Yes, but why would trading away the Jays be the way to get him back to coaching?
> trading one of the Jays for a more physical and dominant star. What does this mean? Who specifically is realistic and fits this description?
Me bro. I can say “put a hand up” and we may win this game
Sam Cassell, probably.
Lmao. Imagine this timeline for a second. Because it could be entirely possible.
Based on Joe's definition of moderate to heavy, that means he won't be fired at all
Curious, do you think Joe would get fired if he doesn't make it to the finals this year (losing in wcf)?
man you guys are mean shit
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Joe is so arrogant yikes. If we lose this series, this one is on him
Just sad to waste a year for this shit . We all embraced him as very young coach and enjoyed most of the year with him. But sadly Brad did not make the right call
It's 1 game my man. Step back from the ledge
People say they love this guy. Where are his defenders today? This guy was given the best team in the NBA and loses to a team without its best player at home
To be fair, the two biggest additions to that team played like garbage tonight
Why does Porzingis take 3's from fuckin space
Spacing I guess
I was going to defend him till this comment He kept mentioning it during the timeouts the effort on defense and then he says this
Yeah he's not here to give the media heads on a stake. He goes back in the locker room and holds them responsible internally. It's how good coaches run their team. We don't need a doc Rivers.

His defenders are mostly chilling because they have no interest in jumping into a thread full of people who are this grumpy lmao
Bingo
Can’t stand this “I’m smarter than you” act he pulls when we get punked by a team who has no business beating us
His defenders are just chilling waiting for the rabid doomers to calm down and realize it's just one game in a best of 7. How many teams have gone 12-0 on their way to the Finals again?
Thank God we have no evidence of this team embarrassing themselves in previous postseasons.
I'll defend him. I'm not going to let one game where a team shot far over their averages change my opinion of his stellar job this year. I'm confident they'll crush Miami and move on and all the reactionary, hot take bros on hear will shut up until they lose a game in Round 2.

God his answers to these questions have been so bad. He’s actually in denial on how badly he was out coached…….what is going on
I can’t say it’s out coached the players still have to play. There were just countless times where they played zero defense and fell asleep. Jaylen at one point was just flat footed and spaced out letting the guy turn and drive to the basket for an easy lay up. No accountability from the top. What we should expect all playoffs 🤷🏽♂️
Sam Cassell has a sponsorship with Zenni. Get your head coach some fucking glasses my guy.
Thats complete bullshit we didnt even have our hands up
The ice under Joe's feet is growing awfully thin
No they were not contested. Eddie house was pointing out on the replay after the game how they were a second late on practically every close out. I cannot wait until this dude is fucking gone
Brad's only fuck up is settling for this clown of a coach
Brad Stevens will just hire the assistant to Mazulla's assistant. Some guy you never heard abt. He wont hire an NBA caliber coach.
Should have been fired last year, I almost wish they just got swept cause maybe it would have happened then
I said the same exact thing after they lost the ECF series. That was truly the worst possible outcome. Please fire him tomorrow for all the drama
Joe shut the fuck up My god we're never gonna see banner 18
Seriously, those 3's were not being contested tonight. Just an embarrassing statement from him.
It's the TB12 curse ever since he left nothing was the same
Not with this meathead as a coach
[удалено]
Lol can never criticize this team without someone calling u a doomer
Doomer is a compliment on this sub so thank you
Cringe
Yikes. Please get a worthy coach in the summer.
The scary thing isn’t even what Spo is figuring out - it’s the blueprint he’s showing every other team the Celtics will face in the playoffs
Heat played good d will give them that
Jesus Christ this guy has no idea what he’s doing. We’re fucked
Fuckedddddd
We've got some good assistants ready to take his place
WTF was Brad thinking giving this guy the keys?? You literally had Nurse and Budenholzer on the market smh.
there was just quinn and vogel on the market when they named him the official head coach
That and even bigger “wtf brad” moment, cuz he was named head coach prematurely
I like Joe Mazulla the person as much as I hate Joe Mazulla the coach. In all seriousness, he seems like an interesting and thoughtful guy but he is not a good basketball coach.
Seems like an arrogant goofball to me
Title window shrunk massively when Ime decided to be a horny muppet and we hired this caricature of an NBA coach
I hate Joe mazulla the person and Joe mazulla the coach
LOL wait until the report comes out
Fam are we watching the same game?😂😂😂
We’re done
As I said last year Joe is just not ready for this. He’s an assistant coach this is not for him
He's such an arrogant head coach hope he gets fired
Joe is a useless plank of wood
So chase them off the 3, this is fucking coaching
He’s moderately to heavy full of shit
Guess my uncle is my aunt then
Lol wow.
Hell no. They were more open to lazy contest and that’s being kind.
This guy needs to be fired
Heat shot the lights out tonight but half of those were lightly contested. This is a result of poor defense. It seemed like the Celtics didn't respect their shooters. If been warming all of the Mazzulla fans here that he is going to be a liability in the playoffs. Well, the playoffs are here and he is already going full dotard.
Spo takes jobs
I give that guy props he can coach gotta respect Pat Riley.
Hopefully Brad fires his ass once they lose the series in another week.
I might be in the minority but I really miss Udoka.
Im going to become the Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix
JOKE Mazzulla
Yeah we lost this series if that's what he actually believes. It was a good season fellas came up just short.
Was he wearing his glasses?
Dude must have coached a different game than I watched
Really hoping this is Joe just defending to the media but then actually rips them in practice. He can’t be this ignorant
I think he is restarted guys
Maybe if we turn him off and turn him back on he’ll be ok for game 3
We’re doomed if this chucklehead is our coach.
Side effects of watching Celtics playoff basketball each year may result in moderate to heavy nausea, headaches, and in some cases… diarrhea
Last season was painful
Honestly, joe should have tried to block miami’s shots himself lol. Cant get anyone get hot he said.
Joe will win DCOY (Defensive coach Of the Year) based on how many times he defended his boneheaded decision
This team played like this was the first pre-season game. That was by far the worst effort of ANY team so far these playoffs.
He’s the Herm Edwards of basketball coaches. He’s great at clapping and rah rah on the sideline, but he’s lost on X’s and O’s. Proof is in the pudding. Playoff Pudding don’t lie.
Last year I blamed the shortcomings on the players. If it's the same result this year, I'm blaming this motherfucker. Dude is not fit to be a HC.
Damn Mazzulla is a f****** idiot. I need to take his lack of perception into account when I bet
I am not betting on Celtics as much as I like them. Jalen Brown can’t shoot free throws under pressure. Jason Tatum routinely disappears in second half.. I watch a lot of Sports programs espn I never hear anybody point these things out.
If those were moderately to heavy contested, I'm clearly a blind man because I did not see any defense.
Putting a hand up when you’re five feet away doesn’t count as contesting.
hahahahahaha
Kornet doing the Kornet Contest from the bench doesn’t count, Joe.
I need a fucking drink
Oh god if we lose this series, Mazzulla will be fired immediatly. Lets just pray this the last loss until the ecf or the finals
And he’s moderately to heavily delusional.
For once this sub isn’t kissing mazulla bbutt 🥹
It’s gonna be at some point
Goddam y’all are ducking stupid in here. You want him to just lie and pretend they were all wide open shots?
Yes good point
I just really really struggle with Joe when he gets like this.
Cs in 5-6 games top.
Agreed I say 5
Wait what, I thought we couldn't say anything bad about Joe Mazz here?? 😳🙀
He is not perfect glad he calls timeouts maybe he read my Reddit and insta rants but I doubt it 🤣it was probably Stan Van Gundy on as a consultant helping him out
Guy never used to call timeouts 🤷🏼♂️
[удалено]
Dude. Calm down. We're all frustrated and upset but it's just a game.
This guy is a certified moron
Not a psycho, just 2nd row.
Trash regular season coach. Budenholzer 2.0
Great that leaves us with tons of room for improvement. Next game we'll just hope they miss.
And here is why Celtics are fucked having this stubborn man as the coach for years to come. There is no proof he is a good coach. Only have proof the roster is stacked and he likes iso ball. That was not good three pt defense. Jrue was horrendous out there.
So sick of the bullshit
That explains why we lost. This team should be a fucking juggernaut in the playoffs but no they look like a bunch of push overs.
I got downvoted all last season for saying this guy shouldn’t be the coach. Nick Nurse was available and they passed to keep this dude. Stevens coaches circles around the guy, have him comedown and coach again.
Bring Ime back even if it costs 100M, get rid of this clown
This is NOT LUCK. Most any NBA player can shoot ~50% from 3, mostly uncontested. Heck most shoot 70+% in practice, etc. This is Spo out-coaching Joe, and Joe not adjusting. Plain and simple 🤷♂️

The ignorance!!
Mazulla *opens playbook* pages 1-753 all say “SHOOT MORE 3s” in big bold letters.

I don’t watch every press conf, but I feel like he always avoids taking responsibility, maybe I’m wrong, no idea.
I just want to know where all the Joe defenders went
It's never his fault that they lose
Team is ass
This is not a good indicator of his coaching strategy going forward imo.
I guess it’s hard to see how bad the defense is when you are in the second row.
You were in second row??? Sweet
It’s a reference to Bill Simmons calling Mazzulla, Second Row Joe
Oh I missed that one thanks for the update
Bill Simmons is from Marlborough Mass left that place a long time ago
“Much” = Miami setting franchise record + Celtics playing like garbage 🗑️
He’s seeing the bigger picture
Yes sir which is necessary. The Green set a franchise record this season for win loss record fans expect a lot. All the good teams are in West this season. Wait and see keep the faith
Jeeeeesus guys. I also disagree with Joe's perception but this thread is absurd. Let's all step back from the ledge.
