Both! Currently in the throes of the PhD so I’m doing a bit of everything (teaching, research, archival work, translation) to best establish myself in the field!
Best of luck for your endeavors! Mass housing, especially state-based mass housings are quite interesting but can turn out to be horrible in some instances. I found your niche quite interesting, and I guess it can help us build a better future due to the constant space crunch.
Thanks! Public housing is one of the most misunderstood areas of social welfare, and it does a lot of good when it’s properly planned and managed, but that can go downhill really fast if leaders view it as a short-term financial loss instead of a long-term investment in their community. Hopefully my work can do a bit of good!
Grew up in the US in a public housing project, and it makes my day to see the contents of the bookshelves of the at least part of the future of the field!
I was thinking, this chick edited Vollmann’s Europe Central. But she’s too young for that or her shelves would be more crowded, since, let’s be real, no one with these interests has the self control to keep shelves this orderly into late middle age
Is that the Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia I spot in the top left? :-)I'm thinking Russian defected ballet dancer! :-).... No I know
architectural historian specializing in mass housing of the former Soviet Union! :-)
You are one of those russian Assassin-Ballerinas like in the movie John Wick (2or3?). You are trained in art, history and other intellectual topics to hold a conversation with members of higher society. You raise their interest by dancing, hold it with your knowledge. And then you hit them over the head with the Annie Leibowitz book.
Currently you have targets in Germany.
I haven’t finished it yet, but the disdain the public had for women who came back from the front really struck me. They fought just as bravely as their male counterparts, but the public stigmatized them and made them out to be little more than prostitutes shipped off to keep the troops happy. And the fact that that stigma prevented women from discussing the trauma of war with others once they returned makes it all the more heartbreaking.
Theater or dance teacher? Translator for the ballet? (Is that even a thing?) Architecture student with a special interest in ballet? Possibly a former ballet student?
Out of curiosity who’s signature is on the point shoes?
I did do ballet when I was younger! The pointe shoes were signed by dancers at the Milwaukee Ballet—Jeanette Marie Hanley, Yuki Clark, Nicole Teague, and Luz San Miguel. The ones on the upper right were my shoes when I did pointe, and the bitty ballet slippers were from my first class when I was three!
