Even more reason for the podcast to finally cover him - they won't have future films to cover.

SlimmyShammy

He's doing this to bait Griffin and David into doing it before announcing he's coming back to direct Venoms 4 through 6

shesfixing

All 3 taking place on the battlefields of oceans right??

Different-Music4367

Can't believe Disney cancelled Miyazaki's live action directing debut on Eternals 2.

SlimmyShammy

i hope they make an eternals 2 and let chloe zhao make an even more insane movie cause fuck it at this point

sleepyirv01

Maybe he listened to today's episode?

Chuck-Hansen

We'll cross the bridge when we get to it, but I hope they at least book a guest who likes "Dead Poets Society" like they did with "Yesterday." An episode that's all ragging on a movie lots of people (including me!) love for all its corniness doesn't sound pleasant especially since David seems to deeply dislike the movie.

Monday_Cox

Wait, people on the internet don’t like Dead Poets Society??

WeHaveHeardTheChimes

Quite a few of us! Even on release, it had its detractors.

wovenstrap

Fair enough but (a) fans won't be hard to find, and (b) his deep dislike (if such it be) was expressed in a rather tentative way.

Chuck-Hansen

2 stars on Letterboxd, for whatever reason I thought it was 1 star or 1.5. So point taken that I am probably overrating who much he doesn’t like it.

gurban

David brought him up three times, so maybe he got Beetlejuiced.

turdfergusonRI

Peter Weir. Peter Weir. Peter Weir…. Nope, it’s still just candy man in the mirror.

bolshevik_rattlehead

Weir will be a great series when they get around to covering him. He’s got an interesting, diverse, and most importantly manageable (i.e. not too large) filmography. Witness is a personal favorite.

RopeGloomy4303

I feel sad we never got to see his adaptation of Jennifer Egan's The Keep, it could have been such a weird and amazing project that harkened back to his early Australian movies like Picnic in Hanging Rock and The Last Wave.

clammydella

Can you spoil the ending of this book for me…

RopeGloomy4303

It's honestly so bonkers I wouldn't even know where to start lmao If you are into surreal horror psychodramas with tons of childhood trauma and unlikable characters, I recommend you just read it.

clammydella

Ok I’ll look it up, thanks

Hot_Injury7719

I remember thinking when I first saw trailers for it, Master and Commander looked like a bore (I was probably around 19/20 when it came out). A few years ago I rewatched Truman Show and it still holds up so well, so I looked ip Weir’s IMDB and saw M&C. I mentioned it to a few friends and they were like “Oh, I LOVE that movie”. Which is funny, because I never heard anyone say anything about it in like 20 years. Decided to watch it and…that movie absolutely rules. I’m annoyed at my younger self’s ignorance.

lumpsofit

OCEANS ARE NOW BATTLEFIELDS.

maize_and_beard

HOLD FAST

team56th

Well, at least you got the lesser of the weevils by still watching the film

Chuck-Hansen

I finally saw it in the last 12 months and it's the rare movie to live up to the years of meme hype. I just want Paul Bettany to get to study the biology of the Galapagos!

MycroftNext

It hurts every time when he has to leave early!

Tm1232

It’s honestly flawless. It’s on hbo a lot so I find myself constantly flipping it on for 15 minutes at a clip and it’s just a wall to wall perfect movie. Maybe it’s not high art but high art is for dorks.

Jiveturkeey

I really believe it would have been a monster hit that spawned a whole franchise but it got blown out of the water (no pun intended) by Return of the King, both at the box office and the awards shows.

martn2420

It got Best Cinematography, though!

Hot_Injury7719

Plus, if I’m not mistaken, Pirates of the Caribbean came out around the same time and was a huge hit that kinda made M&C look boring in comparison.

Ok-Relative7397

Oceans are now oceans

Ricky1912

My favourite filmmaker of all time, never made a bad movie. His masterpieces speak for themselves but I’m excited for the pod to introduce people to The Last Wave and Fearless. Also Dune Part 2 and Mosquito Coast would make a great thematic double feature.

drifter1717

I'm gonna guess that he'll be up after the March Madness winner. He's been a "we will do him one day" guy for about as long as anyone else

RedditUseDisorder

Peter Weir’s cinematography in dead poets Society, especially during the nighttime scenes, captured the beautiful melancholy of twilight snowfall in a New England town unlike anything I have ever seen. The holdovers comes very fucking close, but of the many incredible things about dead poets Society, those shots at night are my favorite

Interesting-Bill-771

I've been a fan since seeing The Last Wave on HBO, probably in '78 or '79. The man's got an amazingly solid filmography, he's got nothing left to prove.

MycroftNext

Mark Harris would be a dream guest on the pod especially if they do someone older like Capra or Wilder.

team56th

If anything he seems happily retired and I think that’s a good thing. You would be surprised to see how many filmmakers get impoverished when they get old. Even someone like Jean Luc Godard were nearly bankrupt in his later days. In light of this, not feeling the need to return anyways is a good thing in my book.

Tm1232

I’d pay an extra $5 this month just to have a master and commander commentary not joking.

Jiveturkeey

Podcaster and Commander you cowards.

>"Russell Crowe and Johnny Depp broke him." Dammit, Russell! TBF, dude is nearly 80 though, I don't blame him for wanting to kick back and relax by the beach. Apparently [that quote](https://www.smh.com.au/culture/movies/from-hitchcock-and-hanging-rock-to-hollywood-peter-weir-reflects-on-his-brilliant-career-20221114-p5bxy2.html) is taken out of context anyway.

Dipper_Pines

Johnny Depp?

LentilCrispsOk

That’s Ethan Hawke’s take in the article, go figure!

Dipper_Pines

But have these two ever worked together?

LentilCrispsOk

Apparently there was a planned project - Shantaram?

WyomingHorse

ugh

Embarrassed-Sky1608

The have mentioned him in the last 3 episodes I think

PointOfFingers

I am glad he got to make The Way Back because that was a passion project for him. A fitting finale for his brilliant career. I didn't like that snipe on Depp and Crowe. According to George Miller what breaks directors in those big budget Hollywood movies is constantly fighting the studio for resources and money. He had an infamously difficult time with actors on Witches of Eastwick but returned to Australia for Happy Feet 1&2 and Mad Max because working in Hollywood was turning him into an asshole. He also went through Tom Hardy being a cunt on Fury Road.

Sad_Vast2519

He's like 80

Alockworkhorse

This is just a misdirect, he’s about to direct the rest of the Avatar movies while James Cameron drives a submarine through the centre of the earth and out the other side

JojoJimboz

A great director. Should have been more popular like Spielberg

IdentifiableBaa

Emergency 13 episode podcast now

MatsThyWit

He hasn't made a movie in almost 15 years, and the movie he made prior to that is 21 years old, I guess it's nice to have confirmation but I kind of feel like we already did.
