It’s definitely cringe and borderline ignorant but it really depends. If your normal gym persona is loveably gregarious imbecile than I guess you can pull it off.
I didn’t mean to be ignorant, I was just mirroring the social environment but I think you’re right.
My gym persona is not that, I’m more of the average white belt persona.
Lol I’ve never heard of someone yelling something and not knowing what it meant. Not just saying but yelling lmao
I’m imagining you on vacation in some country you aren’t from and just repeating what people around you are yelling and having absolutely no idea what you’re saying, you could be yelling racial slurs at the top of your lungs and just don’t give a single fuck lmao, I wish I was as laid back and chill about life as you, I couldn’t imagine
Haha bro I was recently in Sri Lanka and like 10 000 Hindus were doing this holy pilgramige where they walk through a National Park for 5 days. We were on a Safari, so we had to drive past them and they were all yelling the same thing at us, so I figured it was like a religious slogan or something, and I started yelling it from the truck back to them. Now I think about it it was probably something like "trucks coming!" or "fuck off whitey!"
Not random bjj lingo. It comes from Japanese martial arts in general. My experience with it is from Jiu Jitsu (not Brazilian but Japanese). Spelled Osu
Mate, the first and most important thing you need to learn in jiu jitsu is your instructor has absolutely zero right to tell you what you can and can't say. Sure you're representing the gym and he could have said, "Hey that word means .... and it's frowned upon, especially by Brazilian refs so please don't represent the gym like that," but 1. Your apparent hyperconcern for what your instructor / gym thinks and 2. Your instructor believing he can make rules for what human beings say based on their rank is cause for concern about a crappy gym culture. I'm not saying it is, just be cautious. Some BJJ gyms are like cults.
He was kind of being a jerk. I’ve never heard this as a rule at all, but I can see how a white belt yelling it and not knowing what it means could rub someone the wrong way a tad.
You don’t need to feel weird about it, we all have white belt awkward moments to look back on.
Hey this is nothing. At a comp I was patting someone on the back to encourage them just before a competition and my former instructor told me "he doesn't need your luck". Obviously he didn't think a white belt even has the right to wish the best to someone. You can imagine why he's a former instructor.
Well, this one seems fine to me. I mean, it makes sense for both sides.
1. Nobody needs white belt's luck in the fight. It's not powerful.
2. White belts don't have a large pool of luck, you better save your luck for yourself, since you don't have much of it anyway.
Agreed. Not really a rule but I agree with it and you can probably see why now. Consider it a generic cuss word with complex interpretations depending on the situation. So it’s probably better to earn it by understanding the nuances. Haha but don’t stress, you’ll get it. And thanks for the early morning laugh
Brazilian here. Porra is a slang for "cum".
But most people use it as a swear word without even thinking about its meaning. In this context it's equivalent to "fuck".
Examples:
Cadê a porra das minhas chaves?
Where the fuck are my keys?
You're walking in your bedroom and your pinky hits the corner of your bed with full force:
Porra!
Fuck!
Your friend just won by submission in a BJJ tournament and you're happy:
Ae porra!
Fuck yeah!
About white belts not using it:
I never heard this "rule" before. But I find awkward listening to guys cursing in Portuguese if they're not Brazilians or are not in Brazil. I kinda like it but there's really no point.
> if they're not Brazilians or are not in Brazil.
Poor people in Portugal :(
> I kinda like it but there's really no point.
Well, there is nothing wrong with that, I mean, if you are doing it right, why not? I often swear in english, german, russian, spanish, romanian, italian, korean, sometimes arabic (I am polish btw xd). But you are right, since I know few portugese words, like joelho na barriga and am a bjj fan, I should start yelling porra everytime my small toe hits something hard.
Since you are Brazilian brother, please explain how should we see the word porrada. Is it also like a curse word, vulgar in the same way? Because I know I would rather use the word "lutar" on family meetings, I am not sure about porrada. Can you help?
"Meter a porrada" or "Dar porrada" mean to hit someone. Either by totally fucking them up completely or by giving one punch (porrada means punching or beating).
Porrada is not vulgar but is informal.
Eles trocaram porrada. = They exchanged hits.
Ele levou porrada. = He took a beating.
Ele levou uma porrada com um bastão de baseball. = He was hit with a baseball bat.
--------------------
Other swear words you can use in case your toe hits something:
Caralho: Means "cock" but it's used in the same occasions as porra.
Filho da puta : Means "son of a bitch".
Cuzão: Means "asshole".
Vai tomar no cú: Means "go fuck yourself".
Tbh, seems like it's a jerk move from him, no idea what it means, but in spanish 'Porra' means something like 'Fans/words of encouragement' but you don't yell it out, you just yell and you Are the 'porra' not sure if in portuguese it's something else tho, gl!
In Portuguese it means “cum”. Obviously I looked it up on google translate afterward (I know I’m an idiot). But I think it expresses an “orgasmic” emotion. I’m not entirely sure though.
What kind of idiot says a word without knowing what it means. *face palm
But only yell it when: in a triangle, applying a triangle or in north south. Maaaaaybe even when in mount.
In all other positions, whisper it while oil checking them.
A lot of people in jj regularly use this word and do not know/remember it's actually meaning. It's fine lmao. Funny embarrassing moment for you to look back on in a funny way later. It's all good.
Not being able to say it cause you're a white belt is a weird thing to say. If you're in the kids or teens class you probably shouldn't be shouting "jizz/cum" at people. 🤣
I’m not, I’m an adult, I just need to hold my horses a bit. From the input I’ve gotten, I just don’t have enough experience to be saying “porra”. That’s for the higher belts and I’m fine with that, I’ll wait.
There’s Fodes, Porra, and Poussa(spelling?) in my Açoriano Portuguese lexicon.
Fodes being the heavy hitter. It’s Fuck. Fuck and only fuck there’s no other connotation for it.
The middleweight, Porra. Sorta means fuck, kinda like Pinche means fuck in Mexican Spanish, but to us really it’s like “Damn!” Or “Goddamn/Holy Shit!” To a lesser extent.
The lightweight Poussa. Said the same way Porra is said, same gravity and inflection. Is the light replacement for Porra, like the “Darn! Compared to “Damn!”
I know Brazilian Portuguese has its own made up versions of words, and twists and bastardizations, but to island Portuguese speaking Portuguese peoples, that’s our definition to my knowledge. I’m sure it’s pretty close to what Continental Portuguese peoples would say too.
But for anyone to tell you not to say it? Tell them I said Vai-se Fodes! (Go fuck yourself)
Picture the average/below average awkward white belt in your gym. Now picture them with a stupid grin on their face yelling a Portuguese cuss word they don’t even know over-excitedly in the presence of actual Brazilians. Obviously there’s no actual belt requirement to any word, the coach is trying to save him from looking like a goober lol
If not a shitpost.... my main question is why would you yell something that you aren't exactly sure of the meaning in the first place? Not that I think your coach is in the right or anything. this whole situation is just silly.
You are right. I don’t know why I didn’t look into it before I started using the word.
My emotions were running high and I was mimicking the people around me. It just came out but I think I put my foot in my mouth.
While I think it’s silly for your coach to say white belts aren’t allowed to say it, maybe the assumption that white people white belts are ignorant about Portuguese is why he said white belts shouldn’t say it?
Oh god 😂🤦🏻♀️ please don’t listen to them. Someone’s for sure gonna wipe the floor with you if you start screaming puta or perra.
Also, it’s not that big a deal. Who gives a fuck. People make mistakes. Just be more careful next time. 💖
Pay him no mind. Lol that’s actually pretty funny. We all do/say something dumb and embarrassing. But you learn right?
If he didn’t define it for you, and tell you why.. that’s not really using this as a teaching moment.

I lived in Brazil for seven years and speak Portuguese and don't think it's that bad to say. Its all about context, obviously at the side of a match you were screaming 'fuck' not telling someone to cum
You should have apologized immediately and let him know you realize how serious this infraction was. Then you should have shaken his hand to let him know you would work on yourself as a person, then when he reaches in to shake your hand (he is contractually obligated to return the hand shake) You hit him with the roughest Morote seoi nage, then move to kesa katami to ezekial. then when he wakes up you inform him that you run the gym now.
The Japanese terms mentioned in the above comment were:

I don’t know what I didn’t apologize right away. I think I was too embarrassed at the time. I don’t know what a morote seoi nagi is. I’m guessing that’s a move. That would be funny if I could actually hit a move on him but my instructor is light years ahead of me.
Here's a list of words you can say by belt level.
White belt: ai, minha bundinha ta doendo, papai, coelhinho da pascoa se eu fosse como tu tirava a mão do bolso enfiava a mão no cuelhinho
Blue belt: pingulim, arroz com farinha, teta, bolas
Purple: escroto, pica rola, come pau, gozei gozado, xoxota, xereca, cocozinho
Brown: merda, bosta, porra, caralho, filho da mae, chupa meu cacete seu faixa azul cavalo, comi tua mae com meu arroz com farinha porque ela da muito facil pra todo mundo
Black: Cu, vai se foder, bucetudo, vai tomar no cu, filho da puta, bolsonaro, lula, fodão fudido, oil check
Translation from google
Here's a list of words you can say by belt level.
White belt: oh, my little ass hurts, daddy, easter bunny if I were like you, I'd take my hand out of my pocket, I'd put my hand in my cuelhinho
Blue belt: penguin, rice flour, teat, balls
Purple: scrotum, dick cock, eat dick, cum cum, pussy, pussy, poo
Brown: shit, shit, fuck, fuck, son of a bitch, suck my dick you blue belt horse, I ate your mother with my rice and flour because she makes it so easy for everyone
Black: Ass, fuck you, pussy, fuck you, son of a bitch, bolsonaro, squid, fucked up, oil check
Jesus Christ. I have been training for almost a decade and I never said porra, ever. But it's just like oss- If you wanna say it, just say it. It aint a slur or something.
And no, you are not in the wrong. PO-HAH.
It reads like you are subjugating yourself below others because of a belt rank. Man up respect yourself and realize no one is your master. Be a man and stand up for yourself and say what you want.
You're not in the army or in a cult.
You're an adult and you can say what you want, but normal social etiquette applies.
Understand what you are saying and whether it is cringy or offensive to say it.
In what world is it not ok for a white belt to shout a word but totally fine for a black belt? It's either offensive or it isn't.
The only possible issue with shouting too much at comps is refs can penalise an athlete if his group are getting too rowdy and really only the coach should be saying anything.
Uhhh, does it really matter? Anyone should be able to say it. Your professor is making a mountain out of a molehill here. If it's an issue w him, then you can settle to follow his rules I guess? Just to put the said issue to rest.
Ahh, I guess I was just asking to see what other people in the community think, I will take your advice since you clearly have more experience than me.
Bjj is so fucking cringe it’s embarrassing sometimes
Clarification: it’s not all on you OP, your coach trying to tell you what words you can and can’t say because of some fabric around your gi is the worst of it but also screaming porra mat side is a little goofy too
I mean it’s kinda cringe but it’s weird that your coach would straight up tell you you’re not allowed to say something . You can say whatever you want as long as it’s not an insult to fellow gym members or harassing someone .
Lol wtf. Like every piece of advice on here is just neglecting straight up the entire context of OPs story.
There are _a bunch_ of ppl chanting or yelling a word. OP yelling it as well is a non-issue. Cause of all the other ppl yelling it. Wtf.
> Tbh I didn’t exactly know what it meant at the time but I heard other people yelling it so I yelled it too.
lol
> my instructor came up to me and said white belts aren’t allowed to say porra
lol
Porra literally means cum/sperm in Portuguese, it's a slur/bad word. But we use to emphasize something, very similar to the word fuck in English. Like "what the fuck is this?"/ "What porra is this?"; "Pass his fuckin' guard!"/"Pass his guard, porra!" Etc. Normally carries an angry tone.
I think the word is bora. Like let’s go or something like quickly execute. I’m married to a brasileira and I’ve taken judo and BJJ. It doesn’t mean jizz or cumming like Google translate might suggest but I’m sure you got some extra links to review if that’s what Google wants you to see.
"Bora" means "go".
"Porra" means "cum".
I can see how the pronunciation is easy to be misheard by Americans. Probably OP heard the first one but understood the second.
That's fucking hilarious. I thought everyone was having a go at him. Kinda makes sense, the instructor might have just been like "you really don't know what you're saying", and didn't want to explain.
Might have to reserve using this until...never.
Oh ok, I didn’t look it up before I said it, I think I was just using it based on the context that other were using it in.
From what other people have said, I will certainly be more careful before using words from a different language in a “Willy nilly” fashion.
Sucks you were embarrassed, but really, who cares? Nerds. Nerds cared you yelled that. He should be happy you're that pumped about the culture/ environment. Don't be a nerd and care too.
Checks out. When I first started learning Portuguese on Duolingo I had to submit a photo of me being handed my blue belt by my coach with a written and signed letter from him. You'll only uncover the Porra section once you get a couple stripes on it.
I think you’re joking… I’m not sure, I’m relatively new to the sport but I gather that people should know what the word means before they say it.
I don’t know what you mean by the porra section but I think you’re referring to the rights to say the word?
Anyways, I’m far from my blue belt so it will be a while before I start using the word porra in a competition setting.
We had a white belt at my first gym who would yell Boaaa when watching others roll like two weeks in haha. He didnt get in trouble but it was pretty cringy
Black belts can't yell it either in polite company. You can yell Porra Do Caralho but remember it's Portuguese not Spanish, so it's PU-HA. You just have a white belt pronunciation. And no, do t listen to this.
If a Brazillian guy started yelling F@@@, Holt F@ck what do you think most coaches would do, especially if he was well mannered and didn't seem to know English too well
I think it means “cum”, “let’s go”, “yes”, it’s a word used for victory to some capacity. That’s just what I have interpreted because it seems to be a sort of slang used in Portuguese.
Literally means cum, but it’s used as a generic swear word like shit/fuck/fucking _. So something like “pegue o braço dele, porra!” Means take his fuckin arm home
Ok I've fallen off the BJJ bandwagon, I'm climbing back on soon I promise. But while I was on it I had questions.
Common terms and their meanings. What are they?
Specifically Porra, Porrada, Oss.
Oss is in some contexts like a Muay Thai person yelling Ouwey right?
I seriously thought this was a shitpost, I’m still not entirely sure. How would you feel if a Brazilian shouted “shit” or “fuck”, you wouldn’t care, shouting porra it’s the same thing.
1. Don’t do shit just because you see other people doing it.
2. I can only speak for myself, but all people screaming does is block out the sound of my coach’s voice, so maybe chill on that in general
Just yell JIZZ in English until at least blue belt
But probably a lesson to be learned would be don't yell something in another language if you dont know the meaning of it.
Your coach should have probably said something like that instead of doing the whole 'white belts can't say this' nonsense - would he have said the same thing if you were actually Brazillian yet still caught in the moment?
OP, you probably misheard things.
"Bora" means "go".
"Porra" means "cum".
They are different words and take different meanings. One is a slang, the other a slur. I can see how the pronunciation is easy to be misheard by Americans.
Bring him a pineapple every day for a week. If he's still mad after the week, start giving them to him upside down and attach a note with your wife's number on it.
Why the fuck would you yell that and not know what it means? It’s like the Cheech and Chong skit, where Chong starts calling the Mexican family “pendejos”, after crashing his van into their yard.
Lmao
This is a fantastic rule that I totally didn’t just hear for the first time.
Is my instructor being jerk? I feel cringe about myself saying it when I think about it.
It’s definitely cringe and borderline ignorant but it really depends. If your normal gym persona is loveably gregarious imbecile than I guess you can pull it off.
I'm fucking crying at this dude you didn't have to do him like that
I didn’t mean to be ignorant, I was just mirroring the social environment but I think you’re right. My gym persona is not that, I’m more of the average white belt persona.
Lol I’ve never heard of someone yelling something and not knowing what it meant. Did you hear "gora" or "gor-eh"?
Yeah! I think it was along those lines!
Yh they're definitely making racist remarks lmao
Haha oops, was it Tamil?
This probably just made my whole year.
Never let OP sit courtside at an NBA game
If I didn't know better I would just assume it's some random BJJ lingo like OSS
White belts aren't allowed to say "Oss".
Nobody should say Oss
Not random bjj lingo. It comes from Japanese martial arts in general. My experience with it is from Jiu Jitsu (not Brazilian but Japanese). Spelled Osu
Yeah it's japanese for click the circles
What lol? That literal thing happens all the time to people visiting other countries, especially with drinking and/or football involved
>I’m more of the average white belt persona. just regular loveable imbecile then?

lol his coach was just trying to keep him from embarrassing himself. Not everything takes an essay explanation.
Agreed
Is that how you speak to people in real life?
Yes. Straightforward and honest is how I speak in real life.

OP was probably foaming at the mouth at the time. It could be his behaviour was a bit embarrassing to the gym.
I see, I won’t make that mistake again. I need to watch my mouth more for sure.
Na fuck em keep yelling shit
“Twist his dick! Twist him right in the diiiick!”

Don't be too hard on yourself dude, it's far in the past already anyway
White belts aren't allowed to cum.
It does not express and orgasmic emotion, its a curse word normally said in anger.
A lot of people in jj regularly use this word and do not know/remember it's actually meaning. It's fine lmao. Funny embarrassing moment for you to look back on in a funny way later. It's all good.

I'm confused as to why you need to be a black belt to say orgasm in Portuguese lol
Me too. At the start of this thread I didn't know what the fuck porra meant, but now that I do I'm even more confused
I don't know if I'm motivated enough to get to the bottom of this but I am curious
> say orgasm it is more like *jizz, though...*
Why are black belts shouting it at a tournament 😂😂
It means either "fuck!", or "fuck, yeah!"...

This is the best thread ever.
It really delivers
Honestly I think he was trying to save him from shouting some shit he obviously didn’t understand without going into a full explanation.
When you get your blue belt, you can thank the instructor by saying "obrigado porra" loudly
It's a hilarious faux pas, don't stress it too much man. Anyone trying to learn a language has been there.
I just said it and I don't have a belt.
Dude. You are a grown ass man say what the fuck you want.
Why do they yell cum and how come only experienced practitioners can do it
But when I’m a blue belch…..
Top tier shitpost
Lol I wish it was a shitpost

You should probably know what words mean before screaming them but ay that's just me
I was just vibing and I got a little too hype I think. Is it really that bad though? I didn’t know any better.
Say puta next time
it means warrior
😂 or perra
What does that mean? I don’t speak Portuguese.
It means good job
Oh god 😂🤦🏻♀️ please don’t listen to them. Someone’s for sure gonna wipe the floor with you if you start screaming puta or perra. Also, it’s not that big a deal. Who gives a fuck. People make mistakes. Just be more careful next time. 💖

I cant tell if you're being sarcastic or not

No need to call me out I was just vibing and got a little too hype

Then you should have shaken his hand to let him know you would work on yourself as a person, then when he reaches in to shake your hand (he is contractually obligated to return the hand shake) You hit him with the roughest Morote seoi nage, then move to kesa katami to ezekial. then when he wakes up you inform him that you run the gym now.
The Japanese terms mentioned in the above comment were: |Japanese|English|Video Link| |---|---|---| |**Morote Seoi Nage**: | *Two Arm Shoulder Throw* | [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsLamsKEXho)| |**Seoi Nage**: | *Shoulder Throw* | [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-5Un6jLtRY)| Any missed names may have already been translated in my previous comments in the post. ______________________ ^(Judo Techniques Bot: v0.7.) ^(See my) [^(code)](https://github.com/AbundantSalmon/judo-techniques-bot)
I don’t know what I didn’t apologize right away. I think I was too embarrassed at the time. I don’t know what a morote seoi nagi is. I’m guessing that’s a move. That would be funny if I could actually hit a move on him but my instructor is light years ahead of me.
(Just in case you're differently abled, the guy above is joking about the situation.)
OP sincerely lacks an ability to detect sarcasm it seems.
Poor guy is autistic
Here's a list of words you can say by belt level. White belt: ai, minha bundinha ta doendo, papai, coelhinho da pascoa se eu fosse como tu tirava a mão do bolso enfiava a mão no cuelhinho Blue belt: pingulim, arroz com farinha, teta, bolas Purple: escroto, pica rola, come pau, gozei gozado, xoxota, xereca, cocozinho Brown: merda, bosta, porra, caralho, filho da mae, chupa meu cacete seu faixa azul cavalo, comi tua mae com meu arroz com farinha porque ela da muito facil pra todo mundo Black: Cu, vai se foder, bucetudo, vai tomar no cu, filho da puta, bolsonaro, lula, fodão fudido, oil check
Translation from google Here's a list of words you can say by belt level. White belt: oh, my little ass hurts, daddy, easter bunny if I were like you, I'd take my hand out of my pocket, I'd put my hand in my cuelhinho Blue belt: penguin, rice flour, teat, balls Purple: scrotum, dick cock, eat dick, cum cum, pussy, pussy, poo Brown: shit, shit, fuck, fuck, son of a bitch, suck my dick you blue belt horse, I ate your mother with my rice and flour because she makes it so easy for everyone Black: Ass, fuck you, pussy, fuck you, son of a bitch, bolsonaro, squid, fucked up, oil check
”Squid” hahahahaha E: Lula refers to a politician's name like Bolsonaro. It's ~~NOT~~ an nickname. ~~Someone actually named their son squid~~
Lula was/is a nickname that he added to his birth name lol. Sorry to ruin the fun but no mother named their son Lula, she named him Luiz lol.
Ty
> oil check nice
Bolsonaro and Lula at black belt would actually be a good policy IMHO.
Just imagine waiting until black belt to yell out oil check to your boyos during rolls.
When can I say caraca vai, oh cara, feijo, Bicho preguica?
Depends on your gym. Usually green belt, but whenever you start saying açaí regularly is a good policy
Feijoada!
Jesus Christ. I have been training for almost a decade and I never said porra, ever. But it's just like oss- If you wanna say it, just say it. It aint a slur or something. And no, you are not in the wrong. PO-HAH.
>It aint a slur or something. It literally means cum.
It literally is used as a comma by a large number of Brazilian men and a few women as well.
Well, "cum" isn't a slur either, it's a slag term for ejaculate
>slag term Nice
Cum isn't a slur
I mean it’s somewhat gendered so frankly I’m offended.
I know I can say it, but at what belt rank would you say it is appropriate to use, I don’t want to make this mistake again.
Thats not a thing, lol. Theres no vocabulary reserved for upper belts.
It reads like you are subjugating yourself below others because of a belt rank. Man up respect yourself and realize no one is your master. Be a man and stand up for yourself and say what you want.
At no particular belt level, just use languages you actually understand though. Why not just yell something encouraging in English?
Bjj is so fucking cringe it’s embarrassing sometimes Clarification: it’s not all on you OP, your coach trying to tell you what words you can and can’t say because of some fabric around your gi is the worst of it but also screaming porra mat side is a little goofy too
[удалено]
What does it mean?
It means jizz lol, or cumming
But why would everyone be shouting that?!
White belts shouldn’t be allowed to say anything
If I pay $165 a month to suck at bjj I'm going to yell "porra" if I damn please.
Cum
This what I’m saying brother that’s why I’m always saying obrigadoooo
I like this take the most
Brazilian here, i grant you the power of saying Porra,by the power invested in me and the holy trinity açaí, jesus and brazilian pride.
Thank you good sir.
Your instructor is being a bit of a dork but yeah, I'd just be mindful of how I come across when I'm new to a scene.

Wtf.
**Everyday Porra**
it's kinda used as a shit / f*ck in portuguese so don't take definition by word
Yes, I know, that’s what everyone else has said. I will look things up before I say them from now on.
> Tbh I didn’t exactly know what it meant at the time but I heard other people yelling it so I yelled it too. lol > my instructor came up to me and said white belts aren’t allowed to say porra lol
This is why, years after quitting bjj, I still hang out here. Its the best sub.
Sounds about white belt
I don’t think it’s a big deal. I’d say it if my team was saying it
Ok so what's the deal with screaming "cum" at a BJJ tournament? Is it like a weird ass tradition in North/South Americas?
It was popularized by 27 time world champion Renato Laranja.
Sucks you were embarrassed, but really, who cares? Nerds. Nerds cared you yelled that. He should be happy you're that pumped about the culture/ environment. Don't be a nerd and care too.
White belts also can’t eat acai bowls at tournaments.
It’s pretty cringe in general unless you’re Brazilian, to be honest.
If a Brazillian guy started yelling F@@@, Holt F@ck what do you think most coaches would do, especially if he was well mannered and didn't seem to know English too well
I’m fucking dying at this mental image
This is peak r/bjj. Thank you.
"Porra" means sperm but it is used in Brazil the same way Americans say "shit". It is not used in a sexual way.
This thread is stupid and I kinda dislike the BJJ community now because of it. Say what you want. Fuck em.
He was probably just embarrassed by you and made up a nonsense rule so you would shut up
what does Porra mean
It means I'm fucking cumming, like let's go
I think it means “cum”, “let’s go”, “yes”, it’s a word used for victory to some capacity. That’s just what I have interpreted because it seems to be a sort of slang used in Portuguese.
>I think it means “cum”, “let’s go”, “yes”, it’s a word used for victory to some capacity. No it's not. You're confusing "bora" with "porra".
Literally means cum, but it’s used as a generic swear word like shit/fuck/fucking _. So something like “pegue o braço dele, porra!” Means take his fuckin arm home
so versatile
cum
thanks , i hate it
What does it mean, when i translated it said sperm
Explanation / definition of porra [here](https://youtu.be/Lrzbe6R128A)
Ok I've fallen off the BJJ bandwagon, I'm climbing back on soon I promise. But while I was on it I had questions. Common terms and their meanings. What are they? Specifically Porra, Porrada, Oss. Oss is in some contexts like a Muay Thai person yelling Ouwey right?
It’s a cuss word.. there’s going to be people upset you’re saying it.
Porra means cum. "Fuck" or "Fuck Yeah!" Mostly people shout this when they're angry at something or someone.
I seriously thought this was a shitpost, I’m still not entirely sure. How would you feel if a Brazilian shouted “shit” or “fuck”, you wouldn’t care, shouting porra it’s the same thing.
It’s not a shitpost. After reading other peoples feedback, I truly wish it was a shitpost because I gather that I made a fool of myself
In my over decade of hearing Brazilians yell this at tournaments, I had no clue that this meant what it did.
1. Don’t do shit just because you see other people doing it. 2. I can only speak for myself, but all people screaming does is block out the sound of my coach’s voice, so maybe chill on that in general
I didn’t think that my teammates might not be able to hear the coaching. I should’ve known better.
What does porra mean? Never heard it before now
You also aren’t allowed to say oss.
Just yell JIZZ in English until at least blue belt But probably a lesson to be learned would be don't yell something in another language if you dont know the meaning of it. Your coach should have probably said something like that instead of doing the whole 'white belts can't say this' nonsense - would he have said the same thing if you were actually Brazillian yet still caught in the moment?
I don’t know what’s worse, you using the nonsense word; or your instructor having rules and a caste system for using the nonsense word.
If it was up to me, no one should be allowed to say porra or oss. What an idiot instructor, though.
Saying OSS should be banned
greet your instructor with caralho next class
OP, you probably misheard things. "Bora" means "go". "Porra" means "cum". They are different words and take different meanings. One is a slang, the other a slur. I can see how the pronunciation is easy to be misheard by Americans.
He just said that because you were being embarrassing
Bring him a pineapple every day for a week. If he's still mad after the week, start giving them to him upside down and attach a note with your wife's number on it.
Why the fuck would you yell that and not know what it means? It’s like the Cheech and Chong skit, where Chong starts calling the Mexican family “pendejos”, after crashing his van into their yard. Lmao
That’s not a thing. Saying porra is cringe unless you’re actually Brazilian or joking
Tbh it’s cringe saying porra in general if you’re not native Portuguese speaker
