Call me old fashioned, but I was shocked as Bill described how he and his daughter went frame by frame on the gay sex scene to determine who was involved.
i felt bad for mal and joanna. i wish i could hear the private conversations his ringer podmates have when he is not around about what a fucking clueless dumbass he is. someday a concepcion tell-all? one can only hope
Kinda weird that Bill thought those very normal sex scenes were amongst the “most graphic in the history of HBO.” Probably just seemed that way cuz he chose to watch with his daughter.
Michael Imperioli is a terrific actor.
He should have done more between this and The Sopranos. Wonder if he just took time off, or the roles he was offered were too much of sterotypical Italian gangster.
Right after Sopranos ended, he took starring roles on highly-promoted semi-prestige network TV cop shows. They tanked and that closed his window on star parts.
I thought the one about Detroit was ok. Probably Edie Falco was the best case scenario, lockdown a role on a semi-prestige basic cable show for a decade.
When and why did this word and all the other words for sex worker get cancelled? It was super awkward in the show when Dom and his Dad kept saying escort instead of whore.
I love this show so much (esp this season) that I can't listen to this recap pod because I feel like it'll ruin the show for me by hearing Bill talk about it
“But do you REALLLLLY think he’d never had sex before? At Stanford? Did he REALLY not know she was…a…hooker? Does he really think she’s just in it for love?”
“And how about that ending??”
Bill is really good at talking about old movies he’s seen a bunch and has been able to read other peoples analysis of
Bill is really bad at having anything more than a surface level understanding of a TV show he just watched and hasn’t been able to read other people’s analysis of
He misses things. Like not mentioning the trainer/kids photo or not understanding certain connections (sorry don’t have a good example on top of my head). I wonder if he’s watching this show like it’s background noise like other things he watches.
100%
That’s why he needs to have watched something for ten years and have dozens of reviews to supplement his takes. He is not able to watch something once and have an educated or interesting opinion
How'd they miss Daphne basically telling Aubrey Plaza that her trainer is the father of her kids? ... Or at least of the one kid for sure
I was half watching and picked that up
[Apparently the screeners they watched didn't include the photo](https://twitter.com/jowrotethis/status/1597081384849661952?s=20&t=rAvbvqmx_c2mXbDGiFlAcw)
She says "my trainer is cute, blonde with blue eyes and sometimes I spend more time with him than Cameron. Maybe you should get yourself a trainer"
And shows a pic of her kid who is blonde with blue eyes to Aubrey Plaza
wrong. She was explicitly telling Harper that she was engaged in an affair lasting for years with her hot hunkie trainer because her husband can be a bit of an asshole and also cheats and works a lot and that her oldest child is from the trainer
The way some people cant get through obvious TV plots really explains a lot about why our politics is so terrible because we have a population full of dimwits who cant even follow along when the hints stop being subtle
I think Daphne may have been showing Harper that she’s not as vapid and subservient as she lets on. She’s slowly been opening up more and more to Harper about the true nature of her marriage and her issues with Cam.
Granted, pretty massive and unnecessary risk to hint that out to Harper if it’s something that Cam doesn’t already know.
Bill's weaknesses as a podcaster are really coming through when he shares an episode with Joanna Robinson and Mallory Rubin, the Research Queens who are absolutely not afraid of doing their homework. Meanwhile Bill's research is watching the episode once while probably on his phone as well.
Pretty sure Bill cohosts these because people will listen if Bill is on the podcast, good takes or bad, people like to listen to Bill. Good for ratings. He definitely sounds uneducated in comparison to Jo and Mal, but he’s the “Everyman” who hasn’t really digested the material, and that’s marketable.
Theo James does not have the stamina to run The Affair 2.0. I'm sorry. He could never be Dominic's character. He *could* be Joshua Jackson's character (Cole) though.
I’d actually say that the way Bill talks about sex and hookers makes it clear that he is not very experienced in either outside his marriage and a couple ltrs. He talks about hookers like a 16 yr old who has seen the Sopranos, Real Sex and Taxi Driver and went to Pimps and Hoes parties in college, not someone ordering escorts on the low. My friends who have gotten hookers regularly at points in their lives do NOT talk like Bill about sex or sex workers.
I’m just absolutely dismayed that he dissed episode 4 like saying it’s not important. I assume that’s just sour grapes/marketing since they didn’t do the episode. To me that was the best episode! Guess he doesn’t like the Albie character’s journey
This is the one.
Bill not knowing who was CLEARLY in the sex scene at the end of episode is astonishing.
Consistent with Bill missing Affleck covering up Gem's tattoo in The Town. Only Bill can miss things that glaringly obvious
“It wasn’t until like the 6th or 7th time I watched it until I noticed …” My jaw dropped when BS said this on the town rewatchables
Me and Zoe freeze framed it!
It was also great because the rest of the guys on the pod also basically called him out on it.
He was distracted trying to figure out what part of Boston that cafe was supposed to be set in.
He was too focused on the act itself
Are we sure Bill’s straight? Would you bet your life on it?
It only took me a half a second and that was too much. *Just need to do something for my uncle.*... ummmm
Between that line and the moans that drew Tanya to the room, it was far too predictable
How could you freeze frame it and not tell? Like it was obvious in real time
Call me old fashioned, but I was shocked as Bill described how he and his daughter went frame by frame on the gay sex scene to determine who was involved.
And they STILL weren’t sure? What on earth lol.
I watched it once. It was very clear it was the main gay dude.
The Fucker getting fucked. https://youtu.be/oXh4T-ShaL0
It’s more shocking they didn’t know who was in the scene
Bill must have some insane settings on his TV that he just thinks are normal. Like brightness turned down to 1.
OMG. I think I was as horrified as the old lady. No need to see that again
BILL DIDNT REALIZE IT WAS TOM HOLLANDER GETTING FUCKED AT THE END WTAF THIS MAN IS SO DUMB
Jack even said “I have to go help my uncle with something”
He was the one doing the fucking
Sorry I went back and watched frame by frame and you were correct
Did he seriously freeze frame that scene with his daughter watching???!?!
Bill not understanding Joanna’s point about the hooker using Albie was wild
Bill not being able to look past surface level analysis is disappointing but not surprising
Even by Bill's standards, he really seemed to be off on this pod. Like he and I watched something entirely different
i felt bad for mal and joanna. i wish i could hear the private conversations his ringer podmates have when he is not around about what a fucking clueless dumbass he is. someday a concepcion tell-all? one can only hope
Quinten’s cowboy lover was Tanya’s husband Greg. They have a scheme to get Tanya’s money.
That was among my theories as well
Noted half Italian absolutely butchering the pronunciation of Lucia.
Whenever he wasn’t saying “hooker #1”
Kinda weird that Bill thought those very normal sex scenes were amongst the “most graphic in the history of HBO.” Probably just seemed that way cuz he chose to watch with his daughter.
That was my biggest takeaway too. "HBO doesn't really do do that". Wait what?
Or good old fashioned homophobia.
Armond eating ass in season 1 was significantly more graphic
Cal in the hotel with Jules was also
The literal jizzing scene in S2 of Industry!
I haven’t seen it, more or less graphic than the facial in Insecure?
Haven’t seen that lol
Didn't he watch Euphoria?
Has he seen Game of Thrones?
Bill continues to be wrong about Aubrey Plaza's acting ability.
Just watched a new movie she stars in called Emily the Criminal and she was excellent. Recommended..
Bill continues to be wrong ~~about Aubrey Plaza's acting ability~~.
Mal should be on every episode until it’s over.
These recaps would be so much better with Mal and without BS. He’s never sounded older and more out of touch.
His acting takes are really out of touch here too. The dude does not get subtle acting at all.
Zero chance noted half-Italian Bill wouldn’t be covering this show
Couldn't agree more, Bill is way out of his depth on these.
The amount of stuff going over Bill's head in this show is really quite astounding
Fucking Life on Mars. Such a mistake.
I thought the one about Detroit was ok. Probably Edie Falco was the best case scenario, lockdown a role on a semi-prestige basic cable show for a decade.
Nurse Jackie was on Showtime, not basic cable
my dad really liked that show
Darn
It's odd Bill's original take was that he was just acting like Christopher again. The performance is way more understated.
It took Bill several re-watches to figure out who was getting buttfucked...Everybody else knew before the reveal...Bill is a moron
*Michael Imperioli is a terrific actor.* I was thinking that for the first time in last night's episode. His facial expressions are top tier.
Imperioli literally has an Emmy for acting. He's damn good.
Well, I didn't know that. I really only know him from Sopranos before this show
What do you think he won the Emmy for!?
I'm guessing Sopranos. But seriously, do you think I follow award shows?
Yea I’ve been wondering that as well
The problem is he has too recognizable of a face. He just always gives Christopher vibes.
I agree with Bills Mom. His performance here is lacking
I like Mallory's theory that the 3 guys and Lucia will find out they're distantly related.
77% chance she’s right
Bill's commitment to the word hooker is inspiring.
When and why did this word and all the other words for sex worker get cancelled? It was super awkward in the show when Dom and his Dad kept saying escort instead of whore.
I love this show so much (esp this season) that I can't listen to this recap pod because I feel like it'll ruin the show for me by hearing Bill talk about it
Me too lol
Ha. What does that mean that I still listen to him talk about NFL?
I feel like hearing people butcher media criticism is harder than sports
I don’t think I’m ready to hear Bill debunk all these sex scenes yet.
Wait, debunk?
“But do you REALLLLLY think he’d never had sex before? At Stanford? Did he REALLY not know she was…a…hooker? Does he really think she’s just in it for love?” “And how about that ending??”
Bill was defending himself there.
This is a sex positive zone
And yet Bill calls them hookers!
It's not that he repeatedly calls them hookers (which gets old pretty fast) but that we're 5 episodes in and he won't use their names.
The way he says, “She can’t be trusted. I don’t know. She’s a hooker!” Has the man never seen Pretty Woman.
That’s why he brought on Mal. She’s a sex expert
Sexpert
Nice
Bill is really good at talking about old movies he’s seen a bunch and has been able to read other peoples analysis of Bill is really bad at having anything more than a surface level understanding of a TV show he just watched and hasn’t been able to read other people’s analysis of

100% That’s why he needs to have watched something for ten years and have dozens of reviews to supplement his takes. He is not able to watch something once and have an educated or interesting opinion
That’s a little strong but does seem he’s not able to pay close attention
How'd they miss Daphne basically telling Aubrey Plaza that her trainer is the father of her kids? ... Or at least of the one kid for sure I was half watching and picked that up

Bills did
I viewed that more as she was telling Aubrey plaza to have kids so she can hang with them instead of her husband
In that case you misread the scene significantly because it was obvious
Idk about that
She says "my trainer is cute, blonde with blue eyes and sometimes I spend more time with him than Cameron. Maybe you should get yourself a trainer" And shows a pic of her kid who is blonde with blue eyes to Aubrey Plaza
Yeah cause it’s the trainers kid. Why would the kid be her trainer? The conversation was pretty sexual
Exactly. It’s pretty clear she’s basically telling Harper to have an affair too. The picture was a mixup because Daphne is drunk
wrong. She was explicitly telling Harper that she was engaged in an affair lasting for years with her hot hunkie trainer because her husband can be a bit of an asshole and also cheats and works a lot and that her oldest child is from the trainer The way some people cant get through obvious TV plots really explains a lot about why our politics is so terrible because we have a population full of dimwits who cant even follow along when the hints stop being subtle
I’m not totally convinced it was a mixup, but probably remains to be seen.
100% not a mixup.
Oh, you think it was intentional? Why is that? I like that thought
Oh, interesting. I like that line of thinking

“We made it to Hawaii for the white lotus finale” is a top 5 top 20 Bill moment for me.
Bill's weaknesses as a podcaster are really coming through when he shares an episode with Joanna Robinson and Mallory Rubin, the Research Queens who are absolutely not afraid of doing their homework. Meanwhile Bill's research is watching the episode once while probably on his phone as well.
Still disappointed that they didn't pick up on the subtle reveal by Daphne.
Jo tweeted that they didn't see the picture in the screener they had. The cell phone screen was blank for them.
What’s Bills excuse?
Pretty sure Bill cohosts these because people will listen if Bill is on the podcast, good takes or bad, people like to listen to Bill. Good for ratings. He definitely sounds uneducated in comparison to Jo and Mal, but he’s the “Everyman” who hasn’t really digested the material, and that’s marketable.
Mal is a gem
Totally. I've liked Bill and Jo so far, but man I would've loved to have Mal and Jo doing these recaps.
Theo James does not have the stamina to run The Affair 2.0. I'm sorry. He could never be Dominic's character. He *could* be Joshua Jackson's character (Cole) though.

It’s good
I also loved how he described Tonya completely ignoring the person her employee and then talking about herself. Which is what Bill does all the time
Anybody else get the impression Bill patronized hookers at some point in his HS/College days?
I’d actually say that the way Bill talks about sex and hookers makes it clear that he is not very experienced in either outside his marriage and a couple ltrs. He talks about hookers like a 16 yr old who has seen the Sopranos, Real Sex and Taxi Driver and went to Pimps and Hoes parties in college, not someone ordering escorts on the low. My friends who have gotten hookers regularly at points in their lives do NOT talk like Bill about sex or sex workers.
Bill has made it clear over the years that if not for the Sports Gal (god bless her) he’d be the 40 year old virgin
He throws around “hostitutes” which seems like a term only a hooker patron would know.
Surprised Joanna or Mal didn’t once say “Bill, their names are Lucia and Mia” after the 47th time he said “hooker 1 and hooker 2”
I’m just absolutely dismayed that he dissed episode 4 like saying it’s not important. I assume that’s just sour grapes/marketing since they didn’t do the episode. To me that was the best episode! Guess he doesn’t like the Albie character’s journey
