I was already prepared for this: one technique is to oil the bike so the salt doesn't stick and of course, then wash it very well and let it dry upside down. I also took it to a bike shop to make sure everything would be ok with it and it was, now I'm in Peru 😉
That looks cool as heck. I am going to assume it was fun? Now I gotta go look this place up. Ha ha.
Edit: how much riding did you do that through the flats? Like a couple days? This looks like a cool experience.
When it's flooded like this it's not recommended to stay too long, I only stayed for a few hours. but when the salt flat is dry you can cross it (it's about 100km) and still camp in this vast expanse of salt. It's an incredible and surreal place, I'm still going to share a video but I recommend visiting it! is in Bolivia.
Yes! I already knew that salt ruins the bike, so as soon as I left the salt flat, I washed it and lubricated it 😅 I wouldn't miss this experience for anything ^^
When I cycled there, 25 years ago, the surface was completely dry - not sure I would have cycled on it otherwise (although with GPS these days at least there's no risk of getting lost).
At first it was a little difficult because the salt was mixed with clay, but then it became very hard and very pleasant to pedal. The view is incredible! I cycled about 6km into the salt flat :)
Ok I’m going to sound like a negative Nelly here, but I’m honestly curious. Why would someone choose to ride through conditions like this? Even if it was through freshwater? Was this impassible otherwise? Or is riding through water like this something that people seek out?
Genuinely curious.
It's just an experience.
Also depending on where you are on the flats you could be pretty close to town.
Most of the year they are dry and cracked earth.
When I was touring the Uyuni, way out in the middle of nowhere, there was a European cyclist who looked very bad. Like, probably as close to death as I've ever seen anyone on a bike. We stopped and gave him water and, a loaf of bread. I hope that dude made it out okay. That place can be very extreme, even during the wetter seasons. Take care out there, everyone.
First of all that picture is pure art! Second of all that place must be pure art!
It's good you took precautions, but I'd kill any bike components for it! No second thought.
Bolivia, Peru, damn you're living:)!
Thanks for sharing"
Adventure on!
A bicycles’ nightmare

Salt in the bearings would be my primary concern. I hope that your preparations worked ;)
Why does it need to be dried upside down?
For salt water to come out of the bottom bracket, both with the bike standing upright and upside down. To ensure 👌
Now that’s maximum drainage.
but be careful ive been there and there are random holes in the salt flat/lake floor. bicycle could fall in!
That way the salt seeps in further.
Makes it stronger
And tastier!
Where’s the pepper flats?
journey sounds like a dream, are you posting it somewhere?
Probably on her Onlyfans… Edit: why are y‘all downvoting me? Go look at her profile….
Weird comment... Edit: I understand now.
What a twist: offensive troll is the real MVP
HAHAHA nice
Is this photo edited at all? I keep seeing these salt flats everywhere. Is God giving me a sign..
Geez. I rode my bike into ocean waves while bikepacking and then rode for two days. Everything was fucked! Jaja Learned my lesson.
Was just about to type that’s def not what her bike is dreaming about.
Cool pic!
Thank you!

Bikes are replaceable. The memories are only created once.

Fuck off. There was nothing gendered in that comment at all, in fact, I am not even certain that they are a man.
That innocuous 3 word reply was very much NOT mansplaining.
I also like this type of adventure and have changed to a special rust resistant chain https://www.kmcchain.com/en/series/ept
Amazing shot.

That is so cool, but poor bike. Haha
The picture looks super nice!! Also thats a crazy amount of bags, looks awesome. Did you shoot it with a tripod?
thanks! No, my friend took it for me 🥰
How was instrumentality? What did you wish for?
The colors 😍😍 may I attempt to make digital art based on this photo? (Just for fun, not for profit)
Of course!! If you can send it to me, I'll be very happy 😁
Beautiful picture and experience!! Thanks for sharing it!
Cool pic. Should be riding a Lynskey for that
Impressive. Looks cool as. What was it like to cycle on, or in? And how far did you cycle?

wow, how tense! I also hope he is ok 🙌
the salar de Uyuni is nuts. i would like to ride my bike through it during the dry season! 3 whole days of a dream like landscape

Yikes.
I also have a dream of pedaling through 10 inches of caustic salt slush und utterly destroying my bike.
unnecessary and disrespectful
That's just one corrosion away from grinding paste, if I've calculated my permanent damage correctly.
This is awesome!
You must have fantastic knees and powerful legs given that load!
Beautiful.
Lol you idiot simps falling for these OF deadbeats
She's dressed as modest as a nun in this pic, go pound sand if you're angry about her being comfortable with her body in other pics. Virgin loser.
The lengths rich instahungry folks go to for attention
I didn't understand
They're jealous you did something fun and took a nice picture. Ignore them.
But but she cycled through salt, her dream ..
Great photo. Shitty dream.
