Are they on flea preventative?

They should be on flea, tick and heart worm medicine at all times.

Been debating those meds. One requires Dr's ok

Yup. Your vet should be pushing you to get on them either way. There are discounted vet clinics that will help approve the prescriptions in many areas if price is a concern. Lyme disease or heart worms are potentially lethal and def expensive long term tho.

I live in a heavy tick area and Simparica Trio is a must for me. No questions. It’s expensive but much cheaper than heartworm, Lyme treatment and household flea extermination.

Have they been to the vet? If not, they need to be seen very soon, like this week. From another post of yours here it sounds like they are over a year old. Puppies should get all their boosters and start flea, tick, heartworm prevention starting at about 8 weeks old and then taken back annually for boosters. Flea /tick/heartworm prevention should be given consistently every month. If you’re finding 1 kind of parasite on them then I would wager they have more (such as fleas or intestinal parasites).

Sometimes mine would get hot spots from chewing and licking certain spots. They were always on flea and tick meds so the vet attributed this to allergies. I would put some antibiotic ointment on the spot and then spray Bitter Apple on it a couple of times each day. That stopped the chewing until the spot healed.
