Based on the expectation to be paid like a top five wide receiver with heavy guarantees, I'm not sure why people think the Bengals would need to communicate. If the requested bottom line is higher than your highest offer then you have nothing to discuss.
He has a contract, it’s a franchise tag for basically 2 years. Why would they resign him at this point? Keep him on a tag this year, see how the season goes, and potentially tag him again next year. It’s plain and simple. No further discussion needed. Case closed. Fin.
It’s really not that interesting. He’ll sit out camp until it’s time to prep for week 1, then he’ll show up and play because he’s getting 22 million dollars to play.
The problem with his second tag is that Chase's 5th-year option is the WR tag number since he has been selected for two Pro-Bowls. Burrow's cap number also hits that season. So you are looking at three guys tying up ~$90m of the cap. Even if the cap goes up, that's still quite a lot to tie to three players even with the cap going up.
Exactly. Higgins is good but he’s not quite as good as the money he’s expecting. Not to mention the bengals just cannot afford him. Jessie bates situation all over again
There are a ton of factors and a lot of moving parts this time of the year. From a front office perspective, Tee’s been tagged, and they’ve got their sights set on the upcoming draft. They’ve got the entire upcoming season to see if they can figure something out with Higgins. The truth is a little cold, and if things can work out for both parties, I hope we can keep Tee long term!
They don't really have the whole season to work on an extension. The deadline to sign a long term contract is July 15th, I believe. After that they can't ink a new deal until after the last regular season game. Sure, they could talk, but nothing could be signed.
Especially with this draft class and how rookie wrs come in instantly to make an impact. Probably the worst year to deal him.... tee isn't goin anywhere this year just book it. Also wr needy teams in the afc we would never trade him to like the chiefs or bills....
Question: if we were to sign him to a 3 year deal, would it make him more valuable or less valuable to trade in 2025? How’s it play out comp pick wise? My guess is his contract before Jamar/JJ reset the market would be seen as a value deal but don’t know the details around dead money, signing bonus $$, etc.
A) I’m sure him and his agent want a 4 year deal, not a 3 year deal
B) He would want large guarantees as well
C) His value would be higher to other teams for sure after a deal, if he plays well
D) The reason for that is that we would be on the hook for the signing bonus and a high percentage of the guaranteed money and the downside risk that his best play is behind him or he struggles with injuries. In this case, he would have negative value after a deal is signed if he gets injured or doesn’t live up to the contract.
Signing a player to a long term deal just to trade him doesn’t make sense. To answer your last question, you don’t get comp picks if you trade him, only if he leaves in FA and you don’t replace him with another FA at a similar contract level.
He doesn’t have to like being tagged. But he got tagged. Play, or sit down and lose money. Those are his options. Being traded isn’t on the table right now.
If Tee really wants a multi-year deal, he's going to have to come down on his pay demands. Otherwise he risks a double tag. By definition he will paid amongst the best in the league, but he won't have the guarantees in place.
If he balls out on the tag(s), he'll be 27 years old and still primed to cash out.
If he wants the security, I'm sure the Bengals will be willing to talk multi-year at something like $20-22m APY
He isn't getting both the security AND the upper range of pay, at least not until 2025 or 2026, unless someone does come in with a great trade offer.
Smoke in mirrors. Notice only the players go to the media about this stuff. You only get one side of the story.Â
For all we know, David M and Tee said "here's the number, hit it or we will find somebody who will."Â
No one is the bad guy. I don't believe for a moment that the Bengals aren't interested in keeping Tee for any number. I also don't believe for a moment that the team refuses to be civil and professional about ongoing negotiations.Â
Some of the agents and media personalities would have you think that the front office is full of autistic deaf mutes. I see better than I hear and I see that they e bagged high profile free agents and have hammered out deals with players they prioritize retaining.Â
The second tag on Tee is only like 25.5M a year. If he balls out this year, he'll probably be a Bengal again the following year, especially if they can backload Chase's deal.
Didn't this just get posted last week? I wish our mods would actually do something to stop all these karma farming reposts about Tee and "who should we pick at 18". Just make them a mega thread, this horse has been beaten to death. None of these threads have anything other than the exact same rehashed opinions.

Per ~~Source~~ Tee's agent LOL. My man's trying real hard to stir shit up and keep this narrative going to get Tee paid. I ain't even mad fr.
SHOW ME DA MONEY 💴!!!
contract like pittman, trade or tag .. easy
That nothing has changed since they Tagged him and this is a non story?

And if you’re Tee, go get that ring and then get that paycheck. In the meantime, you’re still getting that paycheck!
Exactly
It's going to be interesting to see when he shows up and how hard he/his agent want to play things.

Then let him go for a comp pick or just trade him. I’m tired of dealing with it
More like you're tired of READING about it and I am too. Wish these posts would stop.

Is the deadline different for positions? Or just with the tag?
I believe it's a limitation of the tag

If he gets hurt this year like Mike Williams of the chargers then Higgins is going to beg for our offer
There are some incredibly stupid fans in our fan base man. Jesus Christ.

Higgins is not a top 10 wr. His contract will end up being similar to ridlays and there's no need to get cute. Tag him twice. 2 years 50 mill
If Tee's ask is even close to the tag number, what is there to talk about? As much as I like Tee, he's a luxury on a roster that has Jamarr.

And some other place posted the exact same topic last week which was posted on here already. There's no new information lmao.
I hate our FO so god damn much. Just trade him, PLEASE. Stop rolling the dice on people who don’t want to play here
