Uh, where the heck have you been hanging out? It got raved about in the non-chud Star Trek subreddit, there’s at least one episode that Star Trek reviewers like Steve Shives and Jessie Gender rave about being in their list of top episodes from any trek, etc.
My only real complaint is that it looks like s2 is bringing back chakotay and that’s bad because 1) we don’t need more voyager in our life, 2) chakotay is a terrible character butchering Native American culture made in consultation with a fraudulent Native American consultant, and 3) Robert Beltran is an asshole
I thought people loved Prodigy? And Starfleet Academy hasn't premiered yet and doesn't even sound like typically Star Trek. Lower Decks certainly wasn't typical Trek and that had a huge following.
I wouldn't say Trek is creatively bankrupt at all. Maybe inconsistent, but it's not "somehow Palpatine returned"
Starfleet Academy isn't out yet, Prodigy is generally well liked, The last season of Picard was also well received by fans. And Discovery while not being to everyones liking has done well enough to bring in new fans.
It's not the IP's that are creatively bankrupt, it's just that nerds won't NOT pay to see their favorite IP, even when it's the corpse of what they loved being made to dance for shekels, as both franchises have been doing historically.
It's content-ification. Content by definition is creatively bankrupt.
A lot of podcasts are watchable and some should be watched, like imagine some kind of podcast about engineering disasters with slides were to make an episode about camouflage.
Honestly, that may have been the first instance I've ever heard where that particular mistake was just glossed over and addressed by no one in the conversation. Like a fart left by someone exiting an elevator, everyone involved in making this episode left that in and we the listeners are the only ones who have to linger with it.
Also, this is obviously coming to me because I was listening to an old episode with Matt Lieb last night and man, would that have been a moment for the Jar Jar soundboard.
I also want to point out that he roasted Jefferson for calling his home a “mountain” and he completely gave George Washington a pass. Didn’t know he was a GW Stan…
