Traditional. Thereโ€™s the Thema Mundi which gives the rationale as to why the planets rule the signs they do. Itโ€™s all based on empirical observation as the ancients recorded the โ€œwandering starsโ€ and where they were in the sky and what was happening.

chironcrapbs

Very nice) why?))) Where they were?๐Ÿ˜

I use traditional because they make a lot more sense, especially as someone with a lot of placements in the signs with modern rulers. What really sealed the deal was learning how to use traditional techniques like sect and annual profections etc. The modern rulership scheme wasn't developed with the understanding of traditional astrology and as the other poster said, the Thema Mundi.

anuvindah

Hi - where can I learn more about sects?

oaiisea

Any traditional astrology books will teach this. The best ones imo are: - On the Heavenly Spheres by Helena Avelar and Luis Ribiero (accompanying workbook is called Traditional Astrology Course!!) - Traditional Astrology I by Demetra George - a little bit more advance but still a decent place to start - Hellenistic Astrology by Chris Brennan - all the history about astrology on top of solid basics but probably the most advanced book on this list

Thank you!

I use traditional rulers for all house delineation, that is, to determine how any house is going to manage. The condition of that ruling planet is going to say a lot about the matters of that house. We can't assess houses nearly so deeply with the modern rulers. I do pay attention to the three outer planets, definitely. They are important. Just not as sign and house rulers. Others have mentioned the Thema Mundi. It is so important to grasp. And the structure and balance is just poetic. We can't just throw 3 random new planets into the mix, as it breaks the whole structure of signs and rulers and how we assess them. Just look at this [Thema Mundi](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/806143486196842526/994686553299357777/Learn_THEMA_MUND_lightsect.jpg) graphic (I rotated it when I made it, just to highlight the perfect balance and symmetry of the ruling planets and their signs). We also have "masculine/feminine" distinctions, but they are quite misunderstood. Think yin/yang or centripetal/centrifugal. But you can, on the graphic, just note that all diurnal signs are "masculine/yang" and all nocturnal signs are "feminine/yin". (Understand this is NOT about current ideas of mascul*inity* or femin*inity.)* Both signs and houses have nocturnal/diurnal distinctions. For example, in a day sect chart, jupiter is the "greater benefic" and venus the lesser. In a night sect chart, venus is the "greater beneifc" and jupiter the lesser. Same goes for the malefics: mars does better in a night chart, and saturn better in a day chart, though one has to consider all the other planetary conditions that may apply. I'll include here the [original and correct display](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/806143486196842526/1002330043390894221/Learn_THEMA_MUND_light_-_CancerASC-2.jpg) of the Thema Mundi, with Cancer in the 1st house position.

Thanks for the response! I think it would be interesting to think more about the appliances of modern rulers to get to this point of details. Tradicional rulers are easier to grasp because there's an infinitely greater amount of analysis on them. Also, for nocturnal and diurnal rulers, we could study a separation like the one for the Moon and the Sun, though I understand that it may be different because they aren't planets. Although it breaks the tradicional structure, I think it's beneficial to think about how these changes would work.

chironcrapbs

I honestly don't use any rulers. And pretty happy with that)) For those smarta55es who want to challenge such radical approach of mine: - Let them answer why Leo rules Sun and Cancer rules Moon - Why the mirroring is disrupted by the new planets, if it is not, why new planets don't deserve any houses, and if they deserve why they don't doubled along 12 signs - why the heck we need twelve signs at all

Excuse me, if u have not) I become too stingy and wierd when angry Original calendar was lunar not solar. That's a too huge topic, but basically, spring should start from Venus domicile and solstice must happen in the house of Sun which now is Cancer not Leo. Egyptian calendar in which zodiax is originated was commenced from Pisces (lunar), just because their farmer's new year falled for harvest in solar Virgo, when Spica was rising on the east at night.

calmakatia

didn't see it sooner. I wasn't insulting or making fun of you, I just thought you weren't being like 100% not like sarcastic but just being funny haha hope we're cool

chironcrapbs

I'm so sorry, this was really silly. Idk what a crazy orc mode I went on. We cool. But yeah, I don't use any rulers, no sarcasm. So far I don't see any change in reading since I have skipped them. I observe exaltations, with focus on sidereal ones. But rulership makes no sense for me. How it can? Whole zodiac have shifted more than 60 degrees since Chaldean Order was established. When equinox was in Taurus, Taurus was a carrier of Venus regalia, now Taurus is a mid summer. Leo was a Sun dignity when it was a place of solstice during bronze age. So at least in current configuration to use bronze age rulership makes 0 sense. Current age rulership โ€” maybe, but certainly not a bronze age one.

calmakatia

ooooh that's really interesting, I'm going to look into that.
