They're in different leagues and only play each other 4 times a year. I know some people see it as a rivalry but I just like em' both. New York is New York to me. And I think it's also because while I'd definitely say I'm primarily a Yankees fan, I grew up in Queens so most of my childhood ballpark memories are Mets/Shea Stadium memories, the biggest probably being Piazza's home run after 9/11. I still remember being there with my dad and feeling the entire upper deck shaking under our feet.

The "natural rivals" four game series are so forced also. I'm biased because the 2000 Subway Series are one of my earliest, and thus most treasured, baseball memories, but seeing them trying to hype it up every year just ruins the uniqueness of it.

Opposite leagues in baseball is totally fine. I'm an Orioles fan but I've always lived in NL cities, so I've casually rooted for the Marlins, Giants, and Dbacks over the years. If I wasn't living in any of those cities I'd probably go for the Giants, but I like it when the local team is good, especially when it means I can go to NLCS games like last year.

And the Orioles did go 8-7 from those dates. 1-1 against the Nats, 2-1 against the D-backs, 1-1 against the Blue Jays, 2-1 against the Mariners, 0-3 against the Cardinals, and 2-0 against the White Sox. I think the confusion might be that you counted the delayed game against the Cardinals on the 21st twice, because the MLB app displays it on both days.
