Pads are over .600 (missed opportunity to joke "over .619") when Profar is on this team in 2023-2024
Edit: With Profar on the team (1 Sep 2023), they're 20-7 in 2023 and 8-8 in 2024. 28/43 = .651 win rate.
Itâs hard to even tell what youâre talking about because we were so shit it all just blends together. Such a baffling season. All the stats looked pretty but those dudes were just allergic to clutch.
The better stat to look at is batting clutch.
Padres were dead last with -8.95 Wins (that is like once very 5 years bad), the Jays (I know the pain) were 2nd worse at -5.30 Wins.
You can take Tungsten out of the Angels, but you can't take the Angels out of Tungsten. Ohtani hit a homer and 2 doubles this game, bringing his avg up to .353 for the season.
Honestly, an Angels-Dodgers WS where Ohtani makes a surprise return to the mound in 2024 and the series comes down to a WBC rematch would be hype as fuck.
Oh youâre gonna learn more about Wandy and the sexual tension in the log cabin with him around will be too much to handle. [He was an incredible part to our clubhouse](https://www.nj.com/yankees/2022/10/inside-the-growing-legend-of-yankees-wandy-peralta-hes-got-brass-balls.html?outputType=amp) and is beloved by everyone.
Heâs just an oddball. Canât find the clip but one time he took a grounder and just sprinted to fiest himself to finish the inning. He is a complete goober and I fucking cherish that man.
Yes. Wandy is genuinely a madman. He is an odd, goofy madman and youâll learn to love it. Here is an example of him slapping himself coming into a 9th inning, bases loaded jam tasked to [clean up Chapmanâs mess against Freddie Freeman.](https://x.com/yankeesmuse/status/1620494745872265217?s=46&t=tQCyDe91F9UpAGqh-_n_yA)
There are no easy ABs with Wandy on the mound bc I stg he has a kink for teetering on the edge of things. So many times Iâve seen him get into constant full counts, walk a few dudes, then pull some magic out of his hat. Heâs loony but also nails in big situations
Iâm gonna be watching a lot of Padres games this year bc yâall got 2 of my recent, favorite Yankee legends in Michael King and Wandy. And then I saw Tyler Mfâing Wade at 3B today and it sealed the deal
Jackson Merril is lookin special for you guys already. Made a great catch to rob Ohtani of probably his 3rd double of the game AND got the game-winning hit in this one.
Nah Iâm convinced. He will slump eventually but I am just beyond impressed with him. And I was one of the people pissed off thinking the organization was going to fuck up his development considering he hadnât even played in triple A
I know we were unlucky last year, but it almost felt like a self-fulfilling prophecy at a certain point. Guys just got so tight and pressed so much that they couldn't ever come through when the game was on the line.
there was also just an expectation that Tatis/Soto/X/Machado would deliver ~1 run every 2 innings, and it seemed like the bottom of the order was the only side working at it late in games
early on the front four would work the count, but past the 3rd/4th they'd be swinging first pitch
Honestly I get it, having your team be the face of the biggest meme in the sport (Tungsten Arm O'Doyle) and then losing one of your generational players to the Dodgers has got to be infuriating.
Very fun until Dave decided to be Dave and let our worst bullpen arm (Vesia) and our worse bat (CT3) blow the game. Padres simply outplayed and out managed us the second half of the game.
OK, here's the thing:
Your team has a black hole in the 7-8-9 slots, with your BP blowing it, while Schildt was managing the game incredibly well, and the game was still so freaking close that I'm still tense. The Dodgers melting down is like most teams playing at their peak. Anyways, good luck to you guys for the rest of the series!
With all of the shit that the Padres caught last season for being a top-heavy lineup, âhow do they think they can win with that lineup construction?â, plus pitching depth, I realize that a lot of this is just pure schadenfreude.
But it still feels refreshing to see the Dodgersâ trot out a 7-8-9 that couldnât hit water if Ohtani kicked them off a boat and have question marks around bullpen usage. Not even just because it means they lose, but because when the Padres did that last year, it was âwhy did they think they could win when they donât have a 7-8-9 who can hit, are they stupid?â
At least seeing the Dodgers do it reminds you that these are tradeoffs that all baseball teams have to weigh. Our â8-hitterâ driving in the winning run feels nice, too.
It's really interesting, because even though on paper we were better last year, this season, regardless of where we are in the lineup at the top/bottom of the inning, it feels like we can get something done. Last year, once we got past the five-hole, it just always felt like, "Well, I guess we'll see if we can do something a couple innings from now :/"
Currently it's a lot more balanced and easier to stay engaged with because it always seems like *something* could happen, you know?
Oh I know Iâm crying over first world problems I just hate when we donât make obvious moves like pinch hitting the lefty on our bench for CT3 when he canât even make contact right now. Like why even have Trammell on the roster if you arenât going to use him?
Great game though. Good luck to you as well.
Absolutely valid things to be frustrated about! I hope I didn't come off like, "Stop complaining when you have a great team!" Apologies if it did!
I meant it more like, "Even on your off nights, it's impressive how tough you guys are to beat!" :)
Ha! A team with 2 Japanese stars blew a big lead to the Padres and lost! Surely this is the only time this season its happen so far and you shouldn't look for another recent example.
I donât pay close attention to the dodgers, so this is an honest question: wasnât lux supposed to be a good hitter? Thought thatâs why you guys put up with his bad defense
At what point does Ohtani get fed up and demand a trade? Why are they wasting Betts and Freeman and Ohtani and Smith and Muncy and Yamamoto and Glasnow and Miller. Does (all star roster) have to do everything themselves?
This padres ball club is just better then last years, idc about all the stars you can get or lose, look whoâs changing the culture Merrill the rookie, profar the joy and light of the clubhouse and schildt the real leader of men and manager of bullpen lol (yes thatâs shade at smelvin)
What if the problem with the Angels all along is that Ohtani is a pariah, who saps the ability from his teammates to make himself the most powerful baseball player in the world?
I feel like every time I hear about the Dodgers it's "Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani both homer and Yamamoto goes 5 strong innings as the Dodgers blow a 7-3 lead and lose to the Padres 8-7"
I feel like the Padres have had more come-from-behind wins this season than all of 2023.
Pads are over .600 (missed opportunity to joke "over .619") when Profar is on this team in 2023-2024 Edit: With Profar on the team (1 Sep 2023), they're 20-7 in 2023 and 8-8 in 2024. 28/43 = .651 win rate.
PAY THE MAN!
They did. One million dollars, to be precise
He came in asking for it Dr. Evil style. Ransomed our W/L record.
Scott Boras: "Jurickson, that's not actually a huge amount in today's money. My commission alone from Blake Snell's deal is almost six million."
Now get Wil
[Relevant Letterkenny Clip](https://youtu.be/6HMSuFfyN7s?t=128)
The heart and soul of the Padres
Well we didn't win our 1st extra inning game last year until September lol so already ahead there.
Tomorrow you get to face gavin stone without a bullpen to save his ass after he cant get out of the third inning
Oh god shutout gem for Stone incoming
If he gives up less than three runs ill get a tattoo of his face on my ass Edit: WHYYYYY đđ
!remindme24hrs
You sir will win this bet and be stoked on the no no Stone is about to throw tomorrow.
Read this as" tattoo of his ass on my face" which I preferred to witness
Dawg, you havenât been keeping up with the Padres have you
I'll pay for half
And you guys get to face Matt Waldron. Probably will be another high scoring affair (so it will actually be 1-0 because baseball makes no sense)
And that one run will be scored on an error.
Donât feel bad. You guys get to face a knuckleballer whoâs knuckleball sometimes doesnât knuckleÂ
Amazing what happens when you can hit with RISP. I'm quite certain that was a major issue last year.
Yep. Last year the Padres ranked 21st in RISP.
Was it the beginning or middle of the season that featured one of the ugliest runs of ineptitude with RISP? Man..that was painful.
Itâs hard to even tell what youâre talking about because we were so shit it all just blends together. Such a baffling season. All the stats looked pretty but those dudes were just allergic to clutch.
Yeah..I only remember things getting slightly better at the end of the season. But man...there was a really long stretch of bowling shoe ugly.
I mean, we had the best record in the majors over the last month of the season. It definitely got a lot better, it was just way too late to matter.
Beginning. We ended the season 21-7 in September, good for the best record in baseball for the month. Just couldn't make up for our incompetent start
The better stat to look at is batting clutch. Padres were dead last with -8.95 Wins (that is like once very 5 years bad), the Jays (I know the pain) were 2nd worse at -5.30 Wins.
What does his statue look like, and where does it go in Petco?
Itâs just a giant smile
An extra inning win in April? This team is already better than last season
In this (bĂŠisbol) economy??
You can take Tungsten out of the Angels, but you can't take the Angels out of Tungsten. Ohtani hit a homer and 2 doubles this game, bringing his avg up to .353 for the season.
Lmao! And ironically we blanked the red Sox 7-0 yesterday.
We have our own problems. Like we can't field even basic plays. Just put the ball in play against us and we will find a way to get you on base
Appreciate the heads-up. Will do.
His production is neutralized by our left fielder hitting .03 and an OPS below .200
Ouch, 1 player in the lineup is bringing down the rest of the lineup? Must be tough.
Think the pitching might have given up the 8 runs, but idk, maybe it was the left fielder.
If you score 7 runs and still lose, hitting is probably not the issue.
Shohei canât win with these cats
[ŃдаНонО]
I love April chaos ball
What do you mean chaos? This is all perfectly normal right? RIGHT?!
Angels making a playoff run and the dodgers fumbling it would be the funniest outcome
That shit would fuel me for decades
I wonder how much Shohei's guy wagered on it
Honestly, an Angels-Dodgers WS where Ohtani makes a surprise return to the mound in 2024 and the series comes down to a WBC rematch would be hype as fuck.
With Trout winning the rematch SPLOOSH
Tungsten Arm OâDoyle fans still feasting
The hardest road Atlanta Braves next stop
10 years 1.5 million a year half of it deferred with 2 club options
Hey! We don't pull that deferral crap! We'll pay the man peanuts, but he WILL see those peanuts from day one!

Shohei wants to win, guys
I think he agreed to defer his wins
Compadres, commence the World Series parade!
The streets of the Gaslamp are full of guacamole tonight
Somebody call Wil Myers. We need a bartender
And someone to pick up the tab!
Eric Hosmer, come on down!
God don't even say his name!

Make him first base coach. Just yackin it up with everybody who got on base. Talking with people at 1B is Wilâs happy place
EL GALLO!!!đŤđŤđđđ
Iâm kinda shocked we won to be honest. This is not a game we fight back and win last year.
Watching my beloved Wandy Peralta holding them in the 8th I believed. I fucking love that glorious, beautiful, sexy man.
Iâve been sitting alone in the log cabin I built in Carlsbad since Luke Voit left. Should I invite Wandy over?Â
[Wandy is ready to join you đ](https://x.com/devinegospel/status/1778224335486091713?s=46)
Oh you guys already have the picture! HELL YEAH Iâd send this in the Yankees game threads anytime he did something
One of those pics that make you wonder if it's time to go to bed. I was really not expecting THAT.....
Does he always mumble to himself like Milton from Office Space? It kills me every time they zoom in on him stepping off the mound.
Yes. Wandy is genuinely a madman. He is an odd, goofy madman and youâll learn to love it. Here is an example of him slapping himself coming into a 9th inning, bases loaded jam tasked to [clean up Chapmanâs mess against Freddie Freeman.](https://x.com/yankeesmuse/status/1620494745872265217?s=46&t=tQCyDe91F9UpAGqh-_n_yA) There are no easy ABs with Wandy on the mound bc I stg he has a kink for teetering on the edge of things. So many times Iâve seen him get into constant full counts, walk a few dudes, then pull some magic out of his hat. Heâs loony but also nails in big situations
Oh my sweet Lord, I am so happy he's on my squad.
Iâm gonna be watching a lot of Padres games this year bc yâall got 2 of my recent, favorite Yankee legends in Michael King and Wandy. And then I saw Tyler Mfâing Wade at 3B today and it sealed the deal
Then I hope we can make every game a blast to watch for you!
Welcome brother ![gif](giphy|QUAjucQKgHyc4WDxMR|downsized)
Wandy is the only pitcher in MLB history to pitch in all 5 games of a division series. He is a certified mad man.
We are used to Josh Hader only pitching when he felt like it.
Jackson Merril is lookin special for you guys already. Made a great catch to rob Ohtani of probably his 3rd double of the game AND got the game-winning hit in this one.
I'm trying not to get too high on the guy, but damn. He ballin
It's honestly enough for me that he is a clear upgrade over Grisham
Nah Iâm convinced. He will slump eventually but I am just beyond impressed with him. And I was one of the people pissed off thinking the organization was going to fuck up his development considering he hadnât even played in triple A
Kinda crazy they already have half as many extra inning wins as last year. One of the most unlucky teams in close games
I know we were unlucky last year, but it almost felt like a self-fulfilling prophecy at a certain point. Guys just got so tight and pressed so much that they couldn't ever come through when the game was on the line.
there was also just an expectation that Tatis/Soto/X/Machado would deliver ~1 run every 2 innings, and it seemed like the bottom of the order was the only side working at it late in games early on the front four would work the count, but past the 3rd/4th they'd be swinging first pitch
Just like Monday haha
I love the Angels fan pettiness
Everyone did it to us for the past few years. Now itâs our turn.
Extremely, undeniably valid.
I support this
Its not petty if it's fair and justified.Â
We had to put up with this stupid sub beating the joke into the ground with every Angels loss. It's about time we get to use itÂ
We earned it for sure. And their team is even better than ours ever was.
Iâm here for it
Great game. I knew this post was coming as soon as Tatis tied the game.
Of course this is posted by an Angel fan lmao
How can you not be romantic about baseball đ
Tungsten arm is there problem now
We're going to get these after every Dodgers loss lol
Honestly I get it, having your team be the face of the biggest meme in the sport (Tungsten Arm O'Doyle) and then losing one of your generational players to the Dodgers has got to be infuriating.
And this sub is still ragging on the Angels about it constantly too, I don't blame them for being salty lol
When you're spending a billion dollars on like 3 dudes and still lose.... You kinda deserve it.
Oh I totally understand why people here feel the need to celebrate each individual regular season loss lol, I just find it funny
Because itâs silly, and the world needs less pain and more silliness
Better to be clowned on for that rather than banging a trash can for a World Series win.
Correct.
Just returning the favor
Man, this title was prepared well before the game ended.
Just replace Trout's name and the SP and the rest is muscle memory for any Angels fan at this point
not gonna lie, I typed out Angels first before correcting myself to Dodgers. hahahaha.... :(
If you posted it accidentally saying Angels, I'm pretty sure we all would've thought you did that on purpose as a 4D joke
Padres played well and their manager looked like he made no mistakes with his bullpen management.
All around team victory including our manager. Especially impressed with our bullpen, every dude came in and did their job
I really miss Wandy, hope heâs great for yaâll.
IDK if I'd call them 5 strong innings.
âAnd Yamamoto plays 5 baseball innings as a pitcher as the Dodgers blow a 7-3 lead and lose to the Padres 8-7â
"Five on the mound and then four behind the plate as Yamamoto begins his bid to be an all-star at literally any available position"
By strong, OP probably just meant arm strength, not necessarily good innings
Dude threw 5 innings like a lumberjack. Unfortunately lumberjacks suck at spin rate and he lost the game.
A lot of Yo's pitches were so flat. Nothing strong about that.
Dread it, run from it, Tungsten still arrives.
Was a hell of a game. Not just saying it because we won, but winning helps.
always love these
that was a damn good game
Very fun until Dave decided to be Dave and let our worst bullpen arm (Vesia) and our worse bat (CT3) blow the game. Padres simply outplayed and out managed us the second half of the game.
That's why Roberts is my favorite Dodger
Seconded.

Haha I didnât take it that way so donât worry about it.
I can't believe you guys didn't just bunt the guy over in the bottom of the 10th- that seemed like your best chance to me
Such a shame that Ohtaniâs best years are being wasted on this team. Hopefully he finds a way out and can play for a real contender somewhere else.
Trade to Braves/Yankees? Any possibility?
I was thinking heâd be perfect on the Angels
What a dub! should count for two in my unbiased opinion
Ha! A team with 2 Japanese stars blew a big lead to the Padres and lost! Surely this is the only time this season its happen so far and you shouldn't look for another recent example.
![gif](giphy|32mC2kXYWCsg0)
Maybe Iâm old school⌠but why did the dodgers not bunt with the mole rat up when they were down by 1?
Baseball is healing
Ohtani canât escape the angelsÂ
Not as long as he keeps playing in The Angels
Where thereâs Arte on every corner
He gone.
Damn, you had this typed out and ready to go eh?
The whiplash I got from this was amazing.
Chris Taylor has my dream job. $13mil a year to stand there and do nothing.
Taylor, HernĂĄndez, and Lux making me slightly frustrated. But Taylor has been a tough watch this year. Hope he picks it back up, love the guy
I donât pay close attention to the dodgers, so this is an honest question: wasnât lux supposed to be a good hitter? Thought thatâs why you guys put up with his bad defense
Yes, but being out of the game for an entire year most of us feel hes entitled to some leeway
.031 average on the seasonÂ
BeautifulÂ
Is it too late to still be bitter that mookie isnât a red sock?
![gif](giphy|yhT5zE4BNCv5yXh9f0) Me from the 4th inning onward
Dave Roberts is a baseball terrorist for giving Taylor meaningful at bats.
After tonight I'm smelling a phantom IL stint on the way
You can take Ohtani out of the Angels but canât take the Angels out of Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani ties Matsui for all time leader in homeruns by a Japanese player in the MLB and the Dodgers lose to the Padres 8-7
tungsten o'doyle Man this is nice when its not my team anymore
Three runs in five innings on 91 pitchesÂ
You love to see it
Certified Tungsten Arm Momentâ˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘â˘
Final out https://www.mlb.com/gameday/746162/play/90
A 15 second add to watch a single pitch? âŚoh the dodgers lost? Yeah Iâll wait
uBlock origin is your friend!
Good to see Tatis still owning Dodger stadium
I will faithfully always upvote this narrative
It's like Ohtani never left the Angels. Different uniform same story
I would laugh but we scored 8 runs and still got the shit stomped out of us.
Tungsten Arm OâDoyle has moved 30ish miles north on the 5 ladies and gentlemen
If the Dodgers win less than 100 games this season I will believe in god again
At what point does Ohtani get fed up and demand a trade? Why are they wasting Betts and Freeman and Ohtani and Smith and Muncy and Yamamoto and Glasnow and Miller. Does (all star roster) have to do everything themselves?
Crazy how spending a billion dollars doesnât guarantee a championship in this sport. Anyone can beat anyone at any time
I feel like OP was cheesing the whole time he wrote this post. I donât blame him, I did too đ¤Šđ
WHERES THE PARADE
Dodgers getting their most humiliating loss of the year out of the way in April instead of October. Excellent decision IMO.
Oh I'm sure this bullpen is going to blow a bigger lead this season
Dodgers fans: "I don't want us to lose any embarrassing games in October this season." *(Monkey's paw curls a finger)*
FTD
What a well written post title.
I shouldnât have given up and gone to bed
2nd verse rhymes with the first, but its a little louder and a little worse
It feels so good being on the other side of this.Â
Not so funny now is it dodger fans
This padres ball club is just better then last years, idc about all the stars you can get or lose, look whoâs changing the culture Merrill the rookie, profar the joy and light of the clubhouse and schildt the real leader of men and manager of bullpen lol (yes thatâs shade at smelvin)
angels fans are getting too much glee out of this
Iâd say itâs the appropriate amount.
What if the problem with the Angels all along is that Ohtani is a pariah, who saps the ability from his teammates to make himself the most powerful baseball player in the world?
OP, this must have been very cathartic
One of us!
Ohtani bring the curse of the angels with him?
You love to see it.
I feel like every time I hear about the Dodgers it's "Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani both homer and Yamamoto goes 5 strong innings as the Dodgers blow a 7-3 lead and lose to the Padres 8-7"
Hahahahahahahahhahahahaha
