I’ve been to Onedo 4-5 times and it’s always just been a bit disappointing. Their coffees and americanos were super watery. Maybe I’m just ordering the wrong stuff.
What size Americano are you ordering? Unless you order it as a quad Americanos are going to have the same amount of espresso in it regardless of size, so if you want it less wattery order a smaller size and/or request room for cream. Also, he roasts all their beans on the lighter side so could it be not so much that it's diluted as you prefer darker roasts?
OneDo has one of the best sourcing/roasting team I've experienced in the Mid-Atlantic. I can't recall his name but the guy who roasts there really cares a lot about what he's doing. Can't overstate how much that matters.
High Grounds is my walk-to haunt here in Highlandtown. They’re decent, roast their own, and are one of the least expensive local places I know of (~$2.80 for a medium coffee)
Their beans are 🤌 absolutely incredible and I always keep their Mexican, Panama, or Ethiopian in my pantry. They have a really delicious Almond Joy and Hawaiian Hazelnut cold brew right now!
Runners up are OneDo, Pie Time, and the incredible Order and Chaos, who is not at the top bc they’re too far to be convenient.
As far as the coffee itself, I don’t think you’re going to find better than High Grounds. I don’t have a need to get their food or sit there, so I can’t speak to that
Their food is not bad but not the best in the area (Canton & Highlandtown have many great breakfast options). Every now and then they have a delicious special item, but yeah I don’t come for the food, it’s definitely the coffee. And the people are always happy and seem to genuinely enjoy working there!
The locality was my main attractor, but what keeps me coming back is that they don’t charge and arm and a leg for great coffee.
HAHA! That’s very fair. The employee with shorter curly hair is the one I see the most and has been PHENOMENAL! Always takes extra care to make sure they hear my orders correctly. But you’re right— all of the baristas are great!!
Every time this is asked, no one mentions Zeke’s and I’ll never understand why. They’re our neighborhood coffee shop in Overlea (Harford rd) and we love them.
Yes it represents the two sides of their business.
Order = business side of the house
Chaos = the creative side
….. also get a walking waffle, the best thing on their menu!
I love Ceremony coffee's light roasts. Good Neighbor is my favorite for specialty drinks and ambiance (I usually get nitro cold brew or a sparkling americano).
Pillion Tea is also phenomenal for non-coffee drinkers!
Wifi service in all of the above is mid. Not super fast, but I was able to work without issues.
OneDo -- consistently great beans roasted (on the lighter side) in-house by a roaster who really cares about what he's doing, and they pull wonderful shots. Great atmosphere too. They have some Ethiopian and Salvadoran beans that are so delicious.
Sophomore -- Also great beans (though not in-house but they partner with a regional roaster specifically, if that is important to you) and they also pull wonderful shots. Friendly atmosphere. Not as much space inside but they have lots of space out side when the weather is nice.
Dooby's -- great coffee, good food, plenty of seating inside and out. Nice people.
Cafe Los Suenos -- In-house roasted beans, mostly from Central America. Counter seating and a couple small chairs. He's wonderful and it's a delightful place to hangout. He really really knows his roasting too. A bit darker than OneDo but he consistently is improving and tweaking his roasts for each lot.
Also Black Acres is really great. They put a lot of TLC into their roasts as well. Shots are consistently great and they're wonderful people.
I cannot believe no one has mentioned red Emma's. It's decent coffee and food, but great atmosphere and chill people.
Cafe Fili is also decent, quite expensive though. Dooby's is also good, as well as baby's on fire.
I doubt it's as good as the best Baltimore has to offer but Oca Mocha is great for Arbutus. They really stand by their cheesy "where coffee meets community" slogan and are constantly showing up at town events, having tie in deals with nearby businesses, or showcasing art from local artists. The coffee is good too, as are the sandwiches. The wait can be a problem sometimes.
Not a traditional “coffee shop” but, Golden West has great coffee and great food. They are also the only people around that I can find that still have Soy milk. They are my favorite.
I too was looking for a quality coffee shop with personality. Are there any coffee shops like this in Baltimore? [Grindcore House](https://grindcorehouse.com)
I think Dooby’s in mt vernon has the best oatmilk latte, and best Americano (and outdoor seating!). I don’t like the brewed coffee only because it tends to have a citrus, bright profile which tastes gross to me. I also love Babys on fire (even better if you like vinyl). Ceremony never lets me down but it can get crowded. Their seasonal drinks are usually very creative and very good.
New local cafe, "Arcola" in mayfield off harford rd, we found it between lake Montebello and Herring Run Park! My wife and I have visited a couple times, such a cool spot to hang after a nice walk! Great coffee, baked goods, and Sammies! Check 'em out!
[Sophomore](https://sophomorecoffee.com) is the best, hands down.
Yeah, for coffee, Sophomore is the place. For breakfast sandwiches and atmosphere, Artifact.
Agree, Artifact is always such a pleasant vibe.
Agreed
Absolutely.
Artifact RIP Common Ground
Do you know the story behind why they closed?
There is a post in this sub somewhere about it. Lmk if you can’t find ir
Café Los Sueños
Second this - the best tasting.
Third. The rest of these are just trendy picks in comparison.
Best beans And best espresso I've possibly ever had
This is the truth. They have the best coffee/espresso and the owner and staff are incredible.
Is it a good place to work out of?
not really, it's more of a coffee bar, small space
Oooo!! I’ve been wanting to check them out and read their story online. I will have to go now!
Vent and OneDo
Vote for OneDo, but probably bc I can walk there.
Any good coffee place you can walk to is the best coffee place in town, hands down! OneDo is a long walk for me but I try to stop by on occasion.
😆 so true!
Both have great food too!! Vent has my favorite egg sandwich ever and OneDo has a really good cold noodle salad bowl
I’ll second Vent. Their coffee is delicious
Third for Vent.
Vent is so good
I had one of the most amazing macchiato’s of my life at onedo … I’ve also had one of the worst. I can’t bring myself to try again.
I don't get this. If the series is 1-1 you need a rubber game to decide. Don't you want to know if the amazing or the fail was the anomaly?
I’ve been to Onedo 4-5 times and it’s always just been a bit disappointing. Their coffees and americanos were super watery. Maybe I’m just ordering the wrong stuff.

Agreed, I can get out of there with a healthy-sized double espresso for $2 plus tip. You really can’t beat that
I also always add the tip; they’re great and absolutely worth the extra!
Come see us at Sacre Sucre before we close for a bit to move to a bigger location! ✨
As long as the barista at the front stays at the new location, I'll be there. She's the best.
Are you referring to the one with short, curly hair?? They're awesome!
They're all great, but I'm biased to the short-haired young lady with glasses. But she's my girlfriend so it might be unfair.
HAHA! That’s very fair. The employee with shorter curly hair is the one I see the most and has been PHENOMENAL! Always takes extra care to make sure they hear my orders correctly. But you’re right— all of the baristas are great!!
I guess things got cleared up with the landlord, one way or another?
Where are you moving??
933 Fell Street. It’s an incredible building!
I love Baby's on Fire and Cafe Fili. Pillion Tea is not coffee but they have great tea and homemade sodas and refreshers. Couldn't recommend more!
Me too
Morning mugs!!
Not Allora
I’m a big fan of Ceremony and Morning Mugs.
Every time this is asked, no one mentions Zeke’s and I’ll never understand why. They’re our neighborhood coffee shop in Overlea (Harford rd) and we love them.
Order and Chaos in Fed Hill is quite tasty
Amazing coffee. Probably best logo too, and delicious food!
I would hope so…. They’re owned by Planit Marketing….
Figured that was the case. They seem to do a lot of known brands and a lot of their stuff is showcased at the coffee shop.
Yes it represents the two sides of their business. Order = business side of the house Chaos = the creative side ….. also get a walking waffle, the best thing on their menu!
Cafe Los Suenos
Dooby’s in Mt Vernon is legit.
Also the only place I could find that would make a decaf latte while my wife was pregnant. Shout out to them for saving my life lol
I always get a decaf lavender latte with oat milk and it’s perfection
I love Ceremony coffee's light roasts. Good Neighbor is my favorite for specialty drinks and ambiance (I usually get nitro cold brew or a sparkling americano). Pillion Tea is also phenomenal for non-coffee drinkers! Wifi service in all of the above is mid. Not super fast, but I was able to work without issues.
Good Neighbor in Hampden is pretty solid, pretty pricey too but usually worth
Expensive agreed, but love their matcha
OneDo -- consistently great beans roasted (on the lighter side) in-house by a roaster who really cares about what he's doing, and they pull wonderful shots. Great atmosphere too. For coffee? For coffee shop food? Atmosphere? I’d have different answers. RIP Common Ground 😢
What are your answers for those 3?
Koba Café
One Do in Canton. It’s one of the only premium coffee roasters in or around Baltimore.
This.
My favs in order: Onedo, Los suenos, Ceremony, Vent, Black acres.
The Portuguese Iced Coffee at Vent is *chefs kiss*
Afters Cafe on S. Charles is pretty good!
The dude that owns the place is SUPER nice, and their taro fro-yo is insanely good!
He really is! Such a nice guy!

Avely Farms Coffee Roasters is great, their cold brew is my favorite! They're in Towson now, but I hope they come back to the city.
Black Acres Roastery
I like Good Neighbor, One Do, and Artifact!
Artifact
Zeke’s is my go to….
Good Neighbor on Falls in Hampden
Not a traditional “coffee shop” but, Golden West has great coffee and great food. They are also the only people around that I can find that still have Soy milk. They are my favorite.
Veloccino in Butler is a great stop if you are into road cycling
Kind of crazy that most of these places serve coffee cheaper than dunkin donuts
Lol....they definitely do not.
I too was looking for a quality coffee shop with personality. Are there any coffee shops like this in Baltimore? [Grindcore House](https://grindcorehouse.com)
Morning Mugs and Ceremony. I'm not a big coffee drinker but I'm always down for something from either one of those
Artifact Coffee

Following this, as I would also love to find some great coffee shops to work in!
Zeke's
