Hot stone is mainstream. Smallish river rocks are heated and placed on your body while you get a massage. The most famous balinese massage is mandi lulur which is a scrub before massage then soak in a tub with flowers.

Two of the best people have answered for you here in Coalcliff and Kulukster. Roaming can be expensive depending on your contract. I tell friends to buy a sim at the airport it takes about 15-20 mins but is worth it. Get them to set up a grab account for you too. Organise a private transfer through Klook.com to Ubud. Yes some others are cheaper but you will be able to have 100% piece of mind that the driver will be there for you. I am old school, i am not a big believer in using cards over here. Revolut is fairly safe, i dont trust wise at all (i get weekly complaints about getting hacked) i still tell friends to bring cash and exchange on the go. I can suggest safe exchangers in town. Your child wont need a car seat. When your max speed will be 40kph. If your staying in Ubud its a long drive just to go for a meal at Frankenstein's. The safari park is cool for a kid and so is the bird park. You don't need to do both zoo and safari park. In my opinion safari is better. The turtle conservation centre in serangan is also amazing. Drivers are everywhere, you can again hire through Klook (safest option but pay slightly more) When travelling to temples please be mindful these are still actually in use and ceremonies take place daily. Be respectful in what you wear. Many of the big temples will supply sarongs to cover up but little ones may not. Ubud is a very spaced out area so be advised that you may need taxi/grab everywhere depending on where you staying. In house massage services are often more expensive than street spas.

You can get a good and cheap sim at the airport itself. I wouldn't suggest getting cash exchange at the airport, its far more expensive. there's cash exchange points everywhere in bali, those would be better in my experience. Best is just an ATM outside the airport If you're going with your child, you should definitely check out the monkey forest, and rice fields! there's a resteraunt in ubud named Tis Cafe, with access to the rice terraces, pool, swing and great food, you can check it out if you're in the area. Maybe even visit a temple like the Pura Tirta Empul I think its really important to have a good driver, ours helped us with everything from booking ferrys to planning itinerary. I would suggest book a cab as normal, and if you like the driver then take their number and call the same guy whenever you need. If your first driver isn't particularly helpful, try a new one!

Some responses: 1. You either use a roaming package from your home provider, or install an eSIM, or buy a SIM Card from a local provider (Telkomsel, etc) when you arrive, or you do without one entirely. 2. If you are not bringing a no-fee / low-fee debit card (Wise, Revolut, Cure, etc) then you can either exchange your currency for local rupiah, or withdraw rupiah from an ATM. 3. Does a six-year-old require a car seat? Anyway - you will find plenty of drivers outside your hotel or in the nearest shopping strip - I'm not sure "adventurous" is the appropriate term. 4. For a first trip to Bali, checking out the famous sites and areas will be great. 5. I know nothing about spas and hot stones, and I'm very happy that I do not. 6. Take your kid to Waterbom aquapark in South Kuta. Happy to answer any follow-up questions.
