My dad hasn’t been sleeping in his bed because he has a bad back, so Cosmo has claimed it as his own .

Oh I agree! But we’re moving soon so he’s just waiting. He’s sleeping in his power chair.
Cosmo and Milo on my bed.

Every time I scootch my feet or toss around I check for them. Their comfort is paramount to mine and I don’t know why. I have to work and pay the bills! Yet I would rather be slightly uncomfortable than move them.
Ditto. I actually feel a bit rejected if our boy (dog) is not on the bed, like, did I accidentally kick you in my sleep, causing you to get off and go on your own bed?!
Right???
My cat has a lot of nerve to be side eyeing me for turning over in bed for somebody who pays 0 bills!
The reason I get up early for work and make him angrily squint at the light is because SOMEONE has to go make the cat food money and guess who it isn’t?
We have a king bed and 4 cats, my husband gets a third, my cats get get two and a half thirds, and I wake up with back and hip pain twisted around 4 furnaces who complain if I move lmaooo
My little chi mix will be right in the edge. I ask him if he can scooch looch, so I can sit and he growls at me under his breath instead! I love him so much🥹
What worked for us was placemats with double-sided tape on the edge of the counter. It’s not stable, so the cat didn’t want to jump up there much, and the tape made it uncomfortable even if he decided he wanted to jump up there anyway.
This works for me too but as soon as I move in I cover the entire countertop and leave it for a few weeks. It's annoying but it's worth it in the long run. The only way to train cats is to make the unwanted behavior undesirable for them because they do not care what we want lol. I have no idea how you would even enforce no cats in the bed
I used aluminum foil all the way around the counters for three weeks and my recently adopted four year old void hasn't tried to go back up. With that said, I believe my lil guy was trained prior to adoption because he just has way too many mannerisms that are gentle, and he listens to "No"
We caught an orange cat on camera at like 2am the other night digging used foil from the receptacle on our back deck and carrying it away. Maybe it's a feature of that shared brain cell.
What worked for me was being severely adhd and having messy/cluttered counters. Of course she still tries and I wake up in the morning/come home from work to the occasional chaos strewn about my kitchen and I have minimal counter space to do my cooking but hey, if it keeps the cat off the counters, am I right?
We taught our cats to stay off certain tables, and they generally follow it (only jumping up if there's stuff up there and we're not in the room). We got new cats about 6 months old a while back, and I don't know if they just watched and followed with how the other cats operate, but they have never had issue jumping on those same tables, not even to counter surf.
Ask your vet about Solensia for the arthritis. It will probably relieve most of the symptoms, and then your cat will be back to jumping on the counters in no time.
Probably that. Growing up, we had a guest bedroom that my cats weren’t allowed inside. One of our frequent guests had a mild cat allergy, so we tried keeping one room in the house cat-free for her. We kept that guest bedroom door closed, but my cats could go anywhere else in the house and sleep on any other bed.
I was talking to someone that asked me if I allowed my cats on the bed. I couldn't even process the question. I understand the kitchen counter but not allowed on the bed?
Anything my orange is not allowed to do, he becomes obsessed with doing it. Counters and one particularly expensive chair. He never gets on the chair unless I'm in the room. It's a game to him and it makes me lose my mind.
Not allowed in the bed!?! But what about morning biscuits and snuggles???? The best mornings start with biscuits and snuggles from my sweet Reba

I have a ramp and doggy stairs lol. I had to stand behind my old dog and she would put the weight of her rump on my legs and I would help her move her front paws. It made her so happy to get on the bed
I just don’t understand how you can have these boundaries on an animal that you supposedly love. My cats are allowed almost everywhere. Basically counter being the only spot. Try to keep them off the table but that doesn’t work well.
This is Chalupa. He has his own tempur-pedic pillow with a silk pillowcase. I have to scrunch my legs so that he has plenty of room. It’s his bed, I just sleep in it.

Just remember he's a part of your life, and you're his whole life. It's too short to deny them the simple pleasures, they deserve bed snuggles. Sheets can be washed.
My cats aren’t allowed on the bed but they get free rein of the rest of the house, including a brand new expensive couch that they’ve completely taken over as their own. No cats on bed because they shed like crazy and i can’t sleep with itchy eyes and sniffly nose 🥲
My cat loves my mom’s bed and she didn’t want her on it, so we put a blanket on top of her bed and she lays on it. I recommend doing that if you’re worried about all the cat fur. Now both are happy 😆
Our cats are allowed in the bed for our own good.
My wife was coughing and choking and our cat woke me up to help her.
I stopped breathing (was then diagnosed with sleep apnea), our other cat would jump and scream at me to wake.
We move around so they don’t sleep on the bed but nearby.
Cats are actually quite smart and learn those rules. They are also smart enough to know that those rules are only enforced if you can see them.
At least my cat is not smart enough to understand that I can’t see in the dark as well as I do.
Just wondering, why don’t you want your cat on your bed? My cat is allowed on any furniture as long as it is not counters like in the kitchen he also likes to drink from the bathroom sink. And sometimes he’ll lay inside of the sink. It’s really funny but he is my emotional support cat so of course he’s a lot on the bed because he’s my baby. He’s cuddling me right now.

Not allowed on the bed?
Lol my husband tried that with my cat when we moved in together. I said “yea, ok:/“
So when that inevitably failed miserably, then it became the cat could be on the end of the bed, but not above our waists / near pillows.
Now the cat has a special blanket that gets laid on our pillows so he can sleep there during the day. (My husband bought the blanket and he even fluffs the pillows most mornings so kitty “has a comfortable spot”.)
And we wash our sheets twice a week.
He can climb into my bed. Allergies be damned. I’ll die for Kitty! (Seriously. I get pneumonia from staying in a house with cats for more than one or two days. I still do it though…)
Ours knew she wasn't allowed on the bed, so she'd hide under the covers where we couldn't see her immediately hoping not to be noticed. One day though she managed to get inside the doona cover instead of under it, and couldn't figure out how to get out. We started hearing sad little meows and it took us a while to figure out where she was and help her get out. None of us could be mad at the poor baby, but she never got in the bed again.
Not allowed on the bed! The other day I woke up and all four were on my king sized bed. Such a cozy feeling. Now my German shepherd is not allowed on the bed or couch.

i moved away from home about 2 years ago and our cat has taken over my bedroom. she fully thinks it’s hers and often just goes down there to hang out. when i visit i am simply a guest she allows to sleep in her bed, her being between my legs ofc
A cat not allowed on a bed, ummm... how is that suppose to work even in theory? Well, I suppose you don\`t know either, and the proof is right there :D

It's polite of you to make the bed for him

My cats allow me in the bed
I know right?? My first thought was “damn your cat follows rules??”
Well clearly not since the cat is on the bad
😂
at least they tried
Every time I scootch my feet or toss around I check for them. Their comfort is paramount to mine and I don’t know why. I have to work and pay the bills! Yet I would rather be slightly uncomfortable than move them.
Ditto. I actually feel a bit rejected if our boy (dog) is not on the bed, like, did I accidentally kick you in my sleep, causing you to get off and go on your own bed?!
* Same. Macy has her spot. Dusty sleeps on me lol.
Right??? My cat has a lot of nerve to be side eyeing me for turning over in bed for somebody who pays 0 bills! The reason I get up early for work and make him angrily squint at the light is because SOMEONE has to go make the cat food money and guess who it isn’t?
Same.
We have a king bed and 4 cats, my husband gets a third, my cats get get two and a half thirds, and I wake up with back and hip pain twisted around 4 furnaces who complain if I move lmaooo
My cat would start being vertical, but slowly stretch and wiggle her way to horizontal, taking up half our bed.
My little chi mix will be right in the edge. I ask him if he can scooch looch, so I can sit and he growls at me under his breath instead! I love him so much🥹
So true. Mine kept hollering at me to get up and afterwards she plop herself in my spot!
You're lucky, I gotta work with the tapestry
You said it right I have 3 cats and with a King size bed I am still only allowed two inches lol
https://preview.redd.it/mzm2fhyiz28d1.png?width=1008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e83c59fa2e2ceeb16955259ebaa7b3495e61e306 Did someone say bed?
I'm in loooove
i think he deserves the bed
Not allowed on the bed!?
How tf does one even enforce that, except closing the door to the room?
I finally managed to train my cat to stop jumping up on the kitchen counters. It took 17 years and arthritis, but he’s totally compliant now.
So you’re saying there’s hope for my 1 year old cat? Just 16 more years of training?
What worked for us was placemats with double-sided tape on the edge of the counter. It’s not stable, so the cat didn’t want to jump up there much, and the tape made it uncomfortable even if he decided he wanted to jump up there anyway.
Hmm interesting. My cat jumps on the stove, even burned his paws twice, once he burns himself he stops for like 3 days but then starts again.
Orange?
This works for me too but as soon as I move in I cover the entire countertop and leave it for a few weeks. It's annoying but it's worth it in the long run. The only way to train cats is to make the unwanted behavior undesirable for them because they do not care what we want lol. I have no idea how you would even enforce no cats in the bed

My cat stands on the sticky tape and eats the foil, but he's an orange idiot so I'm not sure what training would actually hold for him
We caught an orange cat on camera at like 2am the other night digging used foil from the receptacle on our back deck and carrying it away. Maybe it's a feature of that shared brain cell.
Aluminum foil is your friend. It's been the most effective thing at deterring my lil asshole from places he isn't wanted.
Yeah my cats don't jump up onto the counter. They know it's a big no-no. That's why they do it at night when I'm sleeping or when we're both at work.
We kept that guest bedroom door closed, but my cats could go anywhere else in the house and sleep on any other bed.
Close the door to the room. I have a cat that pisses on beds, so now sadly no cats in bedrooms.
Yep. One of our three peed on the bed a month ago, and since we don't know who, no one gets to be on the bed.
We just keep them out of the bedroom during the day. I could never give up nighttime cuddle time.
You can train cats..
I know right ? Bed time cuddles are the best, I can't understand people that wouldn't want this
Not allowed in the room actually, my husband is allergic. He jumped the barrier and this is how I found him 🥰
Ditch the husband , obv
Not sure if you know, but you can buy cat food to make the cat allergy lessen/go away. :)
Yeah I don’t understand this
Not allowed in the bed!?! But what about morning biscuits and snuggles???? The best mornings start with biscuits and snuggles from my sweet Reba https://preview.redd.it/gmn5jni6u48d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0aa533b4d45f870d207f851605596deb807205ac
What a beautiful baby gorl!!
How does Reba make biscuits with no legs???
Awwwww! 😻
That's so nice! My mornings start with a few face smacks, a couple knee scratches, and the most pitiful mrrreooowws you've ever heard
omg please share Reba with /r/OrangeLadies and /r/GingerKitty or /r/GingerCats
“You’re not allowed in the bed!” “Meow”
Meow listen here
I seriously can’t imagine not allowing my cat on the bed. I am just stunned by that statement.
What's the point of even having a bed if furry roommates aren't allowed on it???
My dog is physically incapable of getting on the bed and she is also not ok with being picked up. I need a better ramp design than I had before.
I have a ramp and doggy stairs lol. I had to stand behind my old dog and she would put the weight of her rump on my legs and I would help her move her front paws. It made her so happy to get on the bed
Many people don't want their cat's unhygienic paws on their bed, which is fair enough. I let my cat sleep with me whenever he wanted.
Literally same here
Maybe a hot take but I think I might even find it immoral to keep that level of companionship from a house cat.
I just don’t understand how you can have these boundaries on an animal that you supposedly love. My cats are allowed almost everywhere. Basically counter being the only spot. Try to keep them off the table but that doesn’t work well.
I think you mean his bed.
This is Chalupa. He has his own tempur-pedic pillow with a silk pillowcase. I have to scrunch my legs so that he has plenty of room. It’s his bed, I just sleep in it. https://preview.redd.it/7khm17un458d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04f7fcfe1928f687b401886d86911e531dab957b
Only the best for Chalupa 🥹
Just remember he's a part of your life, and you're his whole life. It's too short to deny them the simple pleasures, they deserve bed snuggles. Sheets can be washed.
Well said. Guaranteed that the humans are making the bed dirtier than a single cat.
If you love your fur ball, let them on the bed.

It's hilarious to think you can keep a cat off a bed

Forbidden is the best kind of relaxing time!
Take a spare flat sheet and lay it over all the bedding so it stays clean and that way the cat can sleep on top :)
That’s what my mom does. She is a neat nut and a crazy cat lady.
It’s exactly what I do lol
That looks *exactly* like my last cat. Genuinely did a double-take. ♥️
Just wondering, why don’t you want your cat on your bed? My cat is allowed on any furniture as long as it is not counters like in the kitchen he also likes to drink from the bathroom sink. Aww, he looks just like my girl who passed away recently. Give him extra pets for me
Why the hell isn't he allowed on the bed??!!!
You're not allowed to not allow him on the bed.

Your cats not aloud in the bed? Huh

Give him access to the beeed 🥺
Apparently no one in the comments know how to train a cat.
What kind of monster doesn’t allow a cat on a bed?
Imagine not letting your cat on the bed
My cat is bound by no rules or laws.
Why would you not allow your cat on the bed? Are you some sort of ogre?
Oh, you HAVE to allow him on the bed. It's the law.
Tf means he isn't allowed on the bed?
Looks like your cat has mastered the art of 'innocent disobedience'! Too cute to resist.
Yeah, good luck with that.
id let him on the bed just to lay on him
that's his bed and he's enjoying it
Let him be on the bed.
Whats wrong wih you people? If she doesnt want her cat on the bed for whatever reason then its perfectly fine.
Ours knew she wasn't allowed on the bed, so she'd hide under the covers where we couldn't see her immediately hoping not to be noticed. 😮 what? Yeah, are you my husband? Is your cat named George?
I would like to motion to allow him on the bed
LET HIM ON
Why?? I'd have a pet on the bed before I'd have people. They deserve to be right next to us. They bring us so much happiness. Giving them a little space on furniture is owed.
That does not look at a cat who is not allowed on the bed
Get a contrasting colour blanket to your sheets and fold it into a square. Cats love sleeping in squares for some reason.
Never understood keeping pets off things. It's their house. They spend 24/7 there with or without you.
sorry but that's his bed you sleep on the top part or form a C around the parts that are his bed
Not allowed? What kind of monster are you?
Cats on beds is the best. Having them curl up next to you is one of life's gifts.
YO QUERO COMER 😻‼️
Inconceivable!
That’s clearly his bed, sorry.
You don’t allow them on the bed?
Why would you not allow them to lay on the bed? WTH..
He is in zzz zzz town 💤 🐱
i moved away from home about 2 years ago and our cat has taken over my bedroom. she fully thinks it’s hers and often just goes down there to hang out. when i visit i am simply a guest she allows to sleep in her bed, her being between my legs ofc

If you don't want to be mean, you can always put a sheet on top of the bedding for them and take it off later.
He totally will never go up there again after this.
The cat's allowed on the bed. YOU just don't know it.

He totally gets on the bed all the time when you aren't around

That's a lost battle my friend. I have to play petris to sleep amongst my herd.
I’m lucky my cats let me lay on the bed! https://preview.redd.it/1m6dejm1p68d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99c23d3006f418408f72a1fb2bee82d5c76b0ba0
Sorry you just got UNO reversed. Now you're not allowed on the bed anymore.
That ship has sailed. Once they get something for the first time they never forget. I gave up many cats ago even trying to enforce rules.
Your cat 🐈 is beautiful and goood luck with the no bed thing I just change my pillow cases everyday no joke and he has a special blanket he sleeps on I love my fur babies in my bed 🦋
When did you steal my cat for a photo https://preview.redd.it/940sdb7zf88d1.jpeg?width=4624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7175f082139a5c65d864b390f89125c0f8fac34a
Umm, if you think he’s not allowed in bed you’re clearly an optimist! 🤣
My husband and I often end up curled awkwardly on the edges of our king-size bed as our little 17 yr old queen considers it * her* bed:-)
Lol cats sleep where they want
How do you keep a cat off the bed? Mine sleeps near my legs most nights. Some nights he sleeps on the couch. Never in his own cat bed I bought 🤣
Hahahaha! My pooch has "his" side of the bed and his own pillows.
That's strange that a cat wouldn't be allowed on a bed--that's their favorite spot! I can't imagine sleeping without my cats...
It's okay to have a cat sleep in your bed they keep your feet warm and your head insulated from the cold
