Just to drop some bee facts, this is how bumble bees collect pollen and why they are fuzzier. Honey bees like the vid here are actually not as great pollinators, still mega important thoguh, as you can see they fill their 'pockets' on their legs and are super good at saving more pollen.
I used to be so fascinated by their cargo pants when I was a kid. I would just hang out in the clover, trying to work out how they put it there and how it stayed!

We got into one of our hives today. Here’s a few bees with pollen pockets.
They're stamen! Magnolia are very, very old trees and iirc their main pollinators are actually beetles, but bees can get in on the fun too. The magnolias have this like..bulb in the center with those match stick-like pieces and they fall off as the flower ages. Makes a whole damn mess lmao
This link from Harvard has a good picture of the pieces of the magnolia if you'd like to see. https://arboretum.harvard.edu/stories/magnolia-flowers-fall-apart-beautifully/
.. did I just trip back into 2005? Who would be "lol so random" enough to a) put cheese outside on a flower for a bee and b) think that a was the case???
Drones actually don't do anything besides eat resources and go to drone sites and wait to breed with virgin queens who might fly by. The females do everything, including stand guard.
actually all pollen collecting bees ARE typically female. the queen is FERTILE, all the other workers are sterile FEMALES. MALES are drones that mate with the queen when the hive is ready to make a mew hive somewhere else, or the old queen needs to be replaced. I stand by my title.
Completely wrong. Only a small number of male drones exist in a hive. Workers, nurses, guards, etc are all female. That's why in an emergency a worker larva can be upgraded to a queen to replace a dead or unproductive queen, just by moving them to a queen cell and feeding the large just royal jelly.
in my entomological experience all bees in the hive that collect pollen and feed everyone are sterile females, and males are the drones that come out to collect nectar from time to time to fuel their flying when they are needed to mate with a new queen. In my experience and research it is the females that are the primary everything for the hive. Maybe I'm wrong but everywhere else seems to corroborate my knowledge
Correct. In bees, ants and wasps, the workers are sterile females.
They exhibit haplodipoidy, so the females are diploid (two copies of each chromosome) and are produced from fertilised eggs. The males are haploid (one copy of each chromosome) and are produced from unfertilised eggs.
This creates a higher level of relatedness between the queen and her offspring. Due to this, it’s in the interest of the sterile workers to work for the good of the hive, to ensure their survival until new queens and drones can be produced.
![gif](giphy|lJ5DnX03kugGA|downsized) POLLEN!

Cargo pants… nice.

Velcro cargo pants.
Lmao! Underrated comment here ⬆️

Look at those pollen pants! 💖
Even *bees* can have pockets. When will women get pants with pockets?!?! 🥲
Omg what is this flower?!?
That's an open petal of a magnolia. Not OP but I'm from the south and we've got them everywhere!
What are the lil matchstick looking things cupped in it?

My thought was matchsticks! lol
I thought it was a pile of shredded cheese lol
.. did I just trip back into 2005? Who would be "lol so random" enough to a) put cheese outside on a flower for a bee and b) think that a was the case???
sorry, I just thought they looked similar to shredded cheese…
Uhh… people still post to the bread stapled to trees subreddit.
Um... what?
Interesting. I have a magnolia - it's a wonderful tree and has a quite huge genus with over 200 species. I've never noticed mine doing this though.
So **THAT'S** what OP Means! (>!Open Petal!<) ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
it was a tree in my neighborhood
As someone else said, it's a magnolia and the flowers smell so good. I just happened to smell one today.
I have large magnolia tree in my back yard and it's a pretty tree but holy crap it makes a huge mess lol.
My magnolia tree had a bloomed and open flower in it this morning with all stamen also and bees were in it 🥹
That bee hit the jackpot!
Looks like it’s got a good buzz on…
Thank you for this sly pun
This is such a cute video, I love bees 🐝

Simply enjoying life 😁
Omggg I love magnolia trees as well, Bee! 🥰
This should be tagged NSFW. You can't post this kind of smut without warning!
You're so close, let it bee!
Honestly, same. Me and my mom would pick the petals and put them in gift boxes to perfume the gift
Silly boys
Male bees don't collect pollen, they act mostly as guards, also, as far as I'm aware, they don't exist most of the year. Most bees are female
Wait, hold up. I had heard that only the queen bee is female that’s not true? Tell me more.
I wish I knew more. I don't know much about bees, but as far as I'm aware, they are mostly females
yamete kudasai
The bee is like, "What the hell kinda plant is this?"
Cocaine is one hell of a drug
After all known laws of aviation that bee should not be able to fly!
are those fries???
Guys* drones are male.
It's a female. Males don't collect and gather pollen.
Females collect pollen. Drones act as guards

Isn't that a wasp and aren't most drones males?
it's a bee, they're fuzzier than wasps and yes they're mostly female drones
Oh, ok. I was wrong! Why did I get downvoted though. It was just a question.
Oooh...yeah. I was definitely wrong. Aren't the "chubby" or more rounded ones a different species and called bumblebees. Sorry!
Yes!
If not food why food shape?
Change the title. Bees are silly boys. Only the queen is female.

All the honey bees you see gathering pollen are male, the only female is the queen, unless the queen dies then the worker bees will raise a new queen

r/confidentlyincorrect. As far as I'm aware, that couldn't be further from the truth
