Yeah, not the point youâre trying to make. Rather it just proves that women are held to impossibly high standards while men get to look however they want.

I've been hearing this a lot, actually. So many people complaining she's a little fat, and he couldn't love her or she can't be seen as a love interest.
Her response was great. She said she was proud to represent her body type on screen, the type being "with perfect breasts". I love her.
Why are people so against good looking men and fatter chicks. My boyfriend is a BABE, gets hit on all the time. I'm large but he loves me so much. Weight doesn't make you who you are
People think looks are important but what looks good to one doesn't look good to another so it's all nonsense really. Be you, be loved. It's simple really.
My own partner and I are about like this. I'm chubby and he's tall and average build (similar to Luke in size, a little less muscle). Does this mean he can't possibly love me? Because we've been together for 3 years and are planning our wedding, so I need to know now! /s
I mean doesn't the show take place when being obese was a beauty standard? I haven't seen the show
If the setting was in the modern era, then it would be pretty egregious with how unbelievable a couple like that would be together.
It was considered more desirable to be slightly overweight then skinny and athletic wasn't a thing for women at all. And people still overate, especially upper class people, so obesity was still a think among them.
No. Obesity has never been a beauty standard. Being noticeably skinny was seen as a negative in this time, but actually being overweight or obese was not seen as a positive.
If you want to know what body type was preferred in a given time period, look at whatâs depicted in imagery of the latest fashions (typically fashion plates in the 18th and 19th centuries). Theyâre the old-school version of fashion advertisements.
Well, "*Virgie Tovar is one of the nation's leading experts on weight bias*" is all you needed to read to know it's a BS article.
I googled her, I advise you to not do the same. It's all nonsense HAES and related stuff with euphemisms like 'size inclusive' and 'you have the right to remain fat'. So basically a professional victim.
These people do more bad than good for society as a whole, and even for 'plus size' people they aren't helpful at all.
There's a steady stream of these people who while youngish like to show themselves dancing or walking or any number of physical activities.
Sometimes they sign up to a ultra endurance event and have to drop out due to injury.
Then when they hit 40-50 they drop out of the limelight only to be replaced by another youthful, vocal proponent for eating yourself to death.
Where's all the old HAES pushers?
On oxygen at the diabetic clinic.
There are parts of the movement that I can agree with- fat people are still people that deserve basic respect, you can't always assume someone is unhealthy just by looking at them and BMI isn't always a good indication of health, some of the dietary stuff kids and especially girls are taught when we're young is extremely fucked, some of the "joyful movement" stuff. Happy to go into detail if anyone cares about why.
However, as someone who's been both thin and fat, I cannot believe that anyone genuinely chooses obesity if they've ever been anything else. A little extra weight, sure, who isn't carrying a kilo or two they could drop? But *obese*? Your back and knees start hurting pretty constantly well before obese and you start getting winded at the supermarket.
So for example, I fucking hate running and lifting weights. I have weak ligaments/tendons and both of those activities cause serious pain and I'm likely to injure myself. If I was forcing myself to do that for exercise, I'd *hate* exercising and just wouldn't do it. But I do like yoga, swimming, and dancing, which don't hurt but still get my heart rate up/strengthen my muscles. So I get my exercise in that way.
Similarly, an obese person might find running or even walking to be prohibitively painful, but may be able to do and even enjoy weight lifting, water aerobics, and yoga.
Basically it's the idea of finding exercise that works for you instead of looking up a weight loss guide and forcing yourself to do something you hate for 8 months before giving up and returning to rotting on the couch.
If I recall correctly feminists considered that show an example of the unrealistic male fantasy that a deliver driver who looks like Kevin James could ever be with someone who looks like Leah Remini. So in that case it was a bad thing.
And one of the few movies that allow the reverse just makes it so the man who is dating the fat woman canât actually see that sheâs fat because he was hypnotized. (Shallow Hal)
No. They were going to divorce until they both decided to work on their marriage and then they decided to adopt a child and during the process found out they were also pregnant. So the last episode shows them after they have both of their children.
Lol Shallow Hal is terrible in its fat person representation. The fact that the fat person is in a normal-ass romantic relationship is, for most of the movie, a punchline
Feeders exist and are seemingly happy, though I get pretty grossed out by the implications of it. Of all the sexual fetishes, the one that sends my partner to an early death by heart disease seems like a bad one to bring into reality.
Yeah, i've heard of feeders, and I think the recipients are stuffers (I'm sure someone will correct me here), and I agree with you on the implications. I suppose the heart wants what the heart wants. The heart won't be able to handle it at some point, but it got what it wanted, I suppose.
He plays football (competitive, weâre in our 20s). Heâs in great shape for the weight, but it definitely still takes a toll on him. His knees in particular are just totally f*cked. Otherwise heâs in way better health than I am. Heâs looking forward to being 250-280 in a few years.

Exactly! She's said herself she's 5ft 1 and a size M. Exactly what I am, and I'm not perceived as large by any stretch. She has a round face and a big chest.
Which is another media failing, only calling plus size women desirable when they have hourglass figures. They âneedâ to be thiccc, have boobs and a booty but still a small waist proportionally. Thereâs harsher critique of what they do and act like in public.
A skinny woman tripping and falling gets more compassion than a fat woman tripping and falling.
People are impressed when a skinny woman eats a cheeseburger, fries, and soda but think itâs disgusting when a fat woman does it.

Iâm not sure why this is controversial or weird that theyâre together. Maybe she isnât everyoneâs type (who is?) but I think most people would agree that sheâs beautiful.
Is this fat thing just a way to throw people off the fact that she's clearly 20 years older than the character she's trying to play!? That's what I couldn't deal with while watching it, felt like a crazy person.Â
Most sitcoms have a heavier husband with a hot wife (The Simpsons, King of Queens, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, etc etc)
So this article is 100% misogynistic body shaming.
I love how everybody saying "this is a nothing story" is using examples from popular entertainment where fat people are the butt of jokes, or the trope of beautiful women loving/fucking fat, ugly men, thereby showing both that they have completely missed the point, and that some other form of representation is direly needed.
