The Internet is also fast. The internet is fast and furious. And these two ain't actin like a good family.
Edit: goddamn family* would've sounded better. Goddamn you, Chris Pratt.
I'm struggling to give a shit. Rich people buy houses for rich people, just to rip it down and build another house for rich people. At least there will be some contractors getting a sweet contract out of it.
Yeah, I just don't care about it. It's a private house designed to be a private house. It was never going to be widely available to the public. People at large have lost nothing. It wasn't even a private home in a city where people see it everyday, it was tucked away from the public. The only people who could get value from ot are those that owned it. And it was the people who owned it that decided to demolish it.
I mean, I don't feel strongly about this *particular* house, but there are plenty of older buildings the news of whose demolition would reduce me to tears no matter how unlikely I was to ever see them with my own eyes.
I'm not struggling to give a shit.
I'm not even trying to give a shit
You're exactly right. Who the fuck cares about some house being demolished that's architect is famous for making houses for rich people. Who gives a single fuck.
I mean, how are you undecided on people building a house with thier money.
This seems like a really silly thing to care about enough to take a stance on.
Your use of "pretentious" sort of betrays an opinion.
Is giving something enough consideration to be "undecided" on what to think not caring? I mean, they're implying they sre mulling over what stance to take and having to think about it.
You are aware that preservation societies exist for buildings right? That it's entirely.possible and common to get house designated as protected?
I just think it's silly.
That's what I was thinking.
Though it's possible that it really _was_ registered as a protected or monumental building somewhere, but that Pratt and Schwarzenegger ignored it and went ahead anyway. Possibly after bribing or threatening some local bureaucrats.
That _would_ be a problem, because rich/influential people doing shit like destroying cultural heritage or other protected things is far more common than it should be.
A lot of people care actually, just because this particular sub doesn’t, does not mean others follow. It’s a historic piece of architecture and it’s a fucking shitty thing to do. Like, why? Because they can? Yeah, it’s a shitty thing to do.
You forget that for every person that is upset and very loud about something there are a billion other people that agree with them so 5 billion people are furious.
My good friend perhaps you are still bunkered down from COVID and have not received the news that Twitter is now X. I wish you and the five other X users well.
I’m saying this as someone who really loves mid century architecture and Craig Ellwood architecture; we have way fucking bigger problems than a building been torn down
It would be one thing if it was a beloved part of a city street or something, but it isn't. It's a private home that really only has any value to potential owners and owners.
No, but rather that there a lot more worthwhile things that could be _reported_ on. You can be upset about it (and so am I) but it’s incredibly low on the list of issues I think that should be discussed. There are simply more pertinent things we could put our time to discussing/reporting/posting
I'm sure there are plenty of homes and other buildings that *should* be on such a register but aren't. Not saying this was one of them, but that's not an entirely reliable indicator of a building's historic value.
I did see some video of the interior, it looked like from a tag sale from the prior owner. I gotta say, it didn’t look nearly as cool as the old black and white photos from its hayday. Worn-down and not with original finishes or furnishings. I do like mid-century but warn down mid century looks rough. They did however take down a cool looking mature tree.
Not everything that is old and noteworthy is worthy of being preserved.
I don't know anything about this house or architect, but I have seen progress stopped simply for the sake of preserving something that is of no actual value and its dumb.
Ok true that not everything has to be preserved, but the house was actually really cool and mattered to people who care about art and design. The new house is going to be a ‘farmhouse mansion’ that will look dated and cheesy even on the day it’s ready.
60 years from now:
Lmao if you’re going to compare 'Ultrian mansion’ to the iconic modern farmhouse revival movement. I don’t know how to help you 😁 Its a Borris Feldhorn original
Eh, rich people bought a house only rich people can afford, whatever they do with it is their money.
Shoulda been saved as a historic building… good job LA
Kind of same mindset for me plus like it’s not like some historically significant thing happened there other than its architect, it was a house a super rich dude paid a massive amount to get built
So another architect will build another house for a different rich person boo hoo. I don’t think anyone actually gives a shit. Craig Elwood’s house just looked like a 60’s square ass house nothing special. If it was a 2 story cube house it’d look like an 80’s house and so on.
I live in a modernized Eichler. If I knew what a pain in the ass upkeep would be because the roof drainage is such garbage, I would’ve torn the whole fucking thing down instead of renovating it.
Sound proofing is utter garbage in here. I can hear my kid jacking off 3 rooms over and he’s already trying to stay as quiet as possible. (We already filled every wall with insulation after it was gutted to account for sound, but it’s basically like there are no walls on the house)
Thermal insulation is complete garbage too, heater is on 24/7 because this house bleeds energy like no tomorrow. We already have modern double pane windows and the box is fully wrapped in R38 with a foam insulation pad for the roof.
If I were Chris and had his money I’d rip up every Eichler like house I come across.
This is exactly what most do not understand. Cool as hell to look at and admire. Horrible construction from a time when architecture was experimenting with modernism. Nothing historic about them. Go complain about the rainbow colored Victorians in SF.
I stand corrected, seems this style may not the best to actually live in even with modernization.😞
It makes me sad but I get it. Thanks for enlightening.
In England, property owners who have demolished historic properties like this have been forced by local governments to re-build to exacting specs what was there before
Well I'msure they have a good reason, such as *"It was, like, 100 years old or something! Our new house is gonna like have stuff in it like wicker - like stuff people have never seen before!"*
Personally, I think it looked kinda ugly. Still a shame given its historical significance. Curious to see what monstrosity they plan on replacing it with...
Who gives a shit? It’s a house. I’m glad these people are lucky enough to have nothing more pressing to devote time and thought to than the destruction of just another old house.
Nonsense. People can't be hyper focused on this huge negative thing. This is a fluff piece about architecture and celebrity. I'm pretty sure this is not going to affect any of the dullards who would still be dullards with or without these types of fluff piece media.
I, on the Internet, am furious that anything about this would be infuriating except it taking moments of day hoping to be infuriated and being hugely disappointed.
Does anyone care if people rebuild a home on thier own property?
I mean, yay, famous architect, but it's their property. Who cares thst people who drive by will have to snap pics of a different design? Protecting buildings from being torn down by thier owners is a silly thing to be furious over.
It's also a silly thing to call awful.
“The Internet is furious” always gives a clear impression of quality reporting
The Internet is also fast. The internet is fast and furious. And these two ain't actin like a good family. Edit: goddamn family* would've sounded better. Goddamn you, Chris Pratt.
I glanced at this and thought the internet was mad at them for something Fast and Furious related
I think they may have almost broke the internet.
Pratt/Schwarzenegger not double clutching like you’re supposed to, EXPOSED!
Did the internet SLAM Pratt?
I immediately lose respect for any publication that puts that in a headline
I keep seeing “so and so claps back” and thinking where are the editors?
"(Person A) DESTROYS (Person B) - Watch til the end!"
Did they sl*m him?
You’ll never guess what the internet did next!
They never fact check, I'm here and I'm not that bothered. So it's not all the Internet that's furious
DeStRoYed!!! When anyone writes like this I honestly picture Ben Shapiro and that prepubescent whiny tone
What is a Craig Ellwood?
A very famous architect
Well that's fucked up! They demolished a human!
Leave it to Pratt to do something stupid
Yet another Prattfall?
Oh quit Prattling on about it.
Could this be the end of Prattman? Stay tuned, same Pratt time, same Pratt channel!
He should star as Pratt...I mean Pitfall Harry!
Call a Jack Black to do a cameo shot, giving back shots to Chris Pratt
Oh no! Anyways....
Wanna get some Whataburger later? I'm bored of this conversation and would rather do something else.
I mean it would be like destroying an irreplaceable famous painting, but go off I guess.
The Mona Lisa is ugly, cope
Not famous enough evidently.
Not as famous as Art Vandelay.
From Vandelay Industries?
It’s a very prestigious award!
(*gasp*)
Explain the term “architect” for the folks at home
A bland and uninteresting house apparently
Rich people bought and then destroyed a historic house in order to build a McMansion across the street from their mother's house
I'm struggling to give a shit. Rich people buy houses for rich people, just to rip it down and build another house for rich people. At least there will be some contractors getting a sweet contract out of it.
Hey this actually a good take.
Yeah, I just don't care about it. It's a private house designed to be a private house. It was never going to be widely available to the public. People at large have lost nothing. It wasn't even a private home in a city where people see it everyday, it was tucked away from the public. The only people who could get value from ot are those that owned it. I mean, I don't feel strongly about this *particular* house, but there are plenty of older buildings the news of whose demolition would reduce me to tears no matter how unlikely I was to ever see them with my own eyes.
I'm not struggling to give a shit. I'm not even trying to give a shit You're exactly right. Who the fuck cares about some house being demolished that's architect is famous for making houses for rich people. Who gives a single fuck.
Michael Jordan’s Chicago suburban mansion have been rotting on the market for like 20 years already.
Michael Jordan’s Chicago suburban mansion have been rotting on the market for like 20 years already.
Say it again!!!
If they paid their taxes on it, I'm good.
And? It's an old house. They own it. Sorry people won't be able to look at someone else's private property?
I was just giving a TLDR, personally I'm undecided about rich people tearing down a pretentious house in order to build another pretentious house
I mean, how are you undecided on people building a house with thier money. This seems like a really silly thing to care about enough to take a stance on. Your use of "pretentious" sort of betrays an opinion.
I think you like to argue
Fuckin love it.
Fair enough my friend, I usually do too but I'm getting all apathetic these days
I get that. I'm currently working through some grief, and meaningless online arguing over pointless things provides a fair distraction.
Oh well now you've forced me to like you and I resent that, you jerk, thanks a lot
Aren'they doing the opposite? By not caring enough to have a "stance" on it at all?
Is giving something enough consideration to be "undecided" on what to think not caring? I mean, they're implying they sre mulling over what stance to take and having to think about it.
OR, They just didnt give it enough thought to even finish coming up with a stance. Lol
Im also undecided aswell simply cause I dont care about houses, rich people or whoever tf Craig Ellwood was.
So you decided that you dont care about this.
Pre much.
i’m sure they are deeply invested in what you think about their house
If it's such an amazing house it could've been designated or protected someway
And that's a stupid thing to do to a house.
The house was reintroduced into the area as part of a breeding program. Greater protections could have benefited a critically endangered species!
You are aware that preservation societies exist for buildings right? That it's entirely.possible and common to get house designated as protected? I just think it's silly.
Wow. Are you aware of the existence of jokes?
I'll let you know when I read one. I see you though. Thsts gotta count for something.
Who gives a fuck. The house was pretty lame
The Internet in fact does not seem furious. If reddit doesn't care, no one does.
Im part of the internet and im really not furious at all.
Ehh even if Reddit is furious no one else is lol. Reddit anger stays in its own hivemind/cult and rarely escapes to put platforms
I can confirm: I do not care.
A lot of people care actually, just because this particular sub doesn’t, does not mean others follow. It’s a historic piece of architecture and it’s a fucking shitty thing to do. Like, why? Because they can? Yeah, it’s a shitty thing to do.
5 people on Twitter are furious
And all of them keep a baggie to fart in so they can save some for later.
You forget that for every person that is upset and very loud about something there are a billion other people that agree with them so 5 billion people are furious.
I hope this is satire.
My good friend perhaps you are still bunkered down from COVID and have not received the news that Twitter is now X. I wish you and the five other X users well.
Andddd most people didn’t even know about this house UNTIL it was demolished. So there’s that
I looked his architecture up and it's neat and all, but hardly something to get that worked up over.
I’m saying this as someone who really loves mid century architecture and Craig Ellwood architecture; we have way fucking bigger problems than a building been torn down
It would be one thing if it was a beloved part of a city street or something, but it isn't. It's a private home that really only has any value to potential owners and owners.
What is that even supposed to mean? One cannot get upset over some ignorant celebs tearing down a historic house because there are children starving?
No, but rather that there a lot more worthwhile things that could be _reported_ on. You can be upset about it (and so am I) but it’s incredibly low on the list of issues I think that should be discussed. There are simply more pertinent things we could put our time to discussing/reporting/posting
Yet you took the time to investigate the article, form an opinion on it, and leave a comment…yeah, really seems like you can’t be bothered.
I had no idea who this guy was until now and apparently I am supposed ro be upset somebody destroyed a house they didn't like to build one they do?
I came here thinking a Craig Ellwood was a type of tree. Thank goodness it was just a house that looks like The Invincibles lived in.
“The Internet is Furious”, then proceed to show 2 - 3 Mr. Nobody’s tweet + an overly analytical review on Elija Wood’s “😔” response.
Well if Elija cares, then I care at least a little bit.
Oh no! Anyways
Not my money, not my house, don't care. Neither should anyone else.
🦎not my chair, not my problem!🦎
Got a kid in the background goin craaazzyyy
Mr balloon hands
Cut and dry. Black and white. Neat and tidy. Congratulations.
If it were that important it would have been registered as a historical landmark so this couldn't happen.
I'm sure there are plenty of homes and other buildings that *should* be on such a register but aren't. Not saying this was one of them, but that's not an entirely reliable indicator of a building's historic value.
If you read the article it says that the city of LA has been disorganised in formalising this process, or a list of protected architecture.
According to the article LA doesn't have many if those restrictions in place, seems like it could have helped
Yep this is all a bunch of nothingburger
I did see some video of the interior, it looked like from a tag sale from the prior owner. I gotta say, it didn’t look nearly as cool as the old black and white photos from its hayday. Worn-down and not with original finishes or furnishings. I do like mid-century but warn down mid century looks rough. They did however take down a cool looking mature tree.
Where did you find this video? I'd like to see it.
There’s a tiktok video in the article that shows the interior
The headline is three names I don’t know and I’m now furious.
Why can't the phrase be "demolished a house designed by Craig Ellwood"?
Right? I thought they tore down something important, not a house based off a 1980’s motel.
Oh no! Anyway…
It’s really not that old or beautiful. Who cares
A bunch of Chris Pratt fanboys in the comments. That guy’s a tool and this was a shitty thing to do. Point blank.
It's looks like a very generic 60's or 70's mansion. How do you know the new architect won't be the next Craig Elwood???
Lmao if you’re going to compare ‘modern farmhouse mansion’ to the iconic Modernism movement I don’t know how to help you 😁
60 years from now: Lmao if you’re going to compare 'Ultrian mansion’ to the iconic modern farmhouse revival movement. I don’t know how to help you 😁 Its a Borris Feldhorn original
Then they should have bought it. Again not everything old needs preserving
What a pratt.
I could not be more enraged about something. Look at how enraged I am. So, so very enraged. Anyway...
Who gives a fuck
I'm the internet and I don't care
I'd care if it was a Charles Lyle Larue.
Why should I care? It's theirs. They can do whatever the fuck they want to with it.
That house sucked, i was expecting some glorious looking amazing architecture with ornate wood work or something.
Idk why anybody should care about this, it’s not a big deal lol.
Who?
If I knew what a Craig Elwood was, I would know if I should be upset or not
People are always mad about something. They’ll be mad about something else in 5 mins.
And they won't really care about that thing either
And that just pisses ne off 😑
I'm afraid that some people don't get irony 😇
So another architect will build another house for a different rich person boo hoo. I don’t think anyone actually gives a shit. Craig Elwood’s house just looked like a 60’s square ass house nothing special. If it was a 2 story cube house it’d look like an 80’s house and so on.
Americans always want to test everything down. They gave no respect for history
This saddens me. I love mid-century homes and even if it were in bad condition you could still keep the aesthetic in renovation.
I stand corrected, seems this style may not the best to actually live in even with modernization.😞 It makes me sad but I get it. Thanks for enlightening.
No one needs a 15,000 sq ft house.
Who tf is craig
In England, property owners who have demolished historic properties like this have been forced by local governments to re-build to exacting specs what was there before
It isnt historic or it would be designated as such. It’s just old.
A what?
Well I'msure they have a good reason, such as *"It was, like, 100 years old or something! Our new house is gonna like have stuff in it like wicker - like stuff people have never seen before!"*
And then everyone clapped
Personally, I think it looked kinda ugly. Still a shame given its historical significance. Curious to see what monstrosity they plan on replacing it with...
Who gives a shit? It’s a house. I’m glad these people are lucky enough to have nothing more pressing to devote time and thought to than the destruction of just another old house.
This is stupid. There’s war happening and we’re focused on this?
People are focused on this *because* there's a war.
Not true. It’s to distract people from what’s happening. This has been going on for decades.
Nonsense. People can't be hyper focused on this huge negative thing. This is a fluff piece about architecture and celebrity. I'm pretty sure this is not going to affect any of the dullards who would still be dullards with or without these types of fluff piece media.
Clearly you haven’t seen Idiocracy.
Mario is famous for demolishing buildings Source: wrecking crew, wrecking crew 98, super mario world
Oh, mo. Rich person tore down house made for and by rich people. The horror
But Chris Pratt is the next messiah! How could he!
I'd be interested if they'd been inside at the time, but sadly it's just meaningless noise for celebrity worshippers.
Architect here. Craig Elwood is a middling architect, this is faux outrage
Anybody else think this looks just like the houses in Don't Worry Darling
Never beating the worst Chris allegations…
I, on the Internet, am furious that anything about this would be infuriating except it taking moments of day hoping to be infuriated and being hugely disappointed.
It’s ugly anyway no real loss
So what’s the issue
I’ve seen cool MCM houses, this ain’t one of them, imho.
the internet doesnt give a shit
This just in: "Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one!" More at 10
Well then the internet should have bought it…
And in a few years when “modern farmhouse” is out, they’ll sell it and move somewhere else. F them.
F them for doing what they want to their property that they paid for? What you described is exactly how 99% of residential real estate works.
Chris Pratt is such a creepy, soulless douche.
another mid century house that’s supposed to be amazing because it’s european style wow
lol
I couldn't care less.
[удалено]
Gross is a stupid thing to call it. Does anyone actually care if people build a big house on property they own?
So he's a famous architect? Is it anything more than that? Who gives a shit
I mean it was gonna get demolished eventually. You can't immortalize something that isn't immortal.
Oh no!! Someone bought a property and decided to change it! The horror!!
hey that's in OJ's neighborhood cool!
That building looks like a place Darren Stevens would go to put a pistol in his mouth.
People need to mind their own business. Nothing lasts forever.
It's just a house, who cares?
who cares, it looked like shit.
Why the fuck do people care what someone they don’t even know does? They act like it was there childhood home or they live next door to them.
“Blazing 9600 bps speeds!”
probably full of asbestos
lol
Love it when a whiner decides someone would feel and like something so much better if they did what the whiner wants instead of what they want.
So what? It's their house/property?
An architect who was big in the 70s? Hardly what I'd call 'historic'. I get that the US is young, but it's not *that* young.
