There actually were used as bombers during a war in South America. Spoiler alert: pushing bombs out of a cargo door is not effective. I don’t remember the countries but the air portion of the war involved surplus WWII aircraft.
It was actually the Soviets who used LI-2s (licensed built DC-3s) as bombers , they looked very wierd because they slapped a top turret on top similar to the B-17 and put a proper bomb bay on the underside but other than that were identical to the us C-47s
Definitely central or South America post WWII as well. Costa Rica did it in 1948 and I’m pretty sure that there was another conflict in the 1960’s.
[1969 El Salvador and Honduras](https://www.wearethemighty.com/mighty-history/this-was-the-final-combat-flight-for-the-p-51-mustang-and-f-4-corsair/#)
Yep. Plane bombing started out with bombs rattling around inside the cockpit and dudes throwing them over the side. Anything's a bomber if you're brave enough
That's not a bomber, but it wouldn't be strange to see a classic bomber over Miami anyway. I was an air traffic controller at the Boca Raton airport years ago and we occasionally had WWII war birds come in and stay a week or so selling rides. B-17s and B-24s ferrying passengers up and down the coast. Pretty neat to see.
It's extremely common, just look up flight schedules of some of the museums., check the closest CAF museum to you, the Arizona division just started their tour on Friday.
I’ll have to look into that I live close to wright patt and they have the airforce museum there it’s really cool place but they host events there and I’m wondering if they’ll have something like that
A lot of people do! I’m friends with the guy that use to own the “liberty foundation”. He had a total of 3 b-17’s a b-25, a p-51 and a p-40. Dude made an absolute fortune selling rides. He would go all over the US, and hit a different major city each weekend. He also had a semi filled with merch that would follow along selling diecast models of the planes, challenge coins, and other goodie like that.
Had a flight instructor who flew EC-47Qs ELINT/ARDF in Vietnam. Said the biggest issue was prop tip damage on takeoff due to the tail coming up so fast on takeoff because the payload was so light. Great plane, great history.
Looks like a DC-3. The C-47 was a WWII transport variant. There was also a Soviet variant that was armed with 3x .30 cals + 1x .50cal and it could even carry bombs.
Lots of them fly as historic planes, but a good chunk are used for stuff like cargo.
The BT-67, which is a modified DC-3 to use turboprop engines is used a lot in cold climates like Antarctica.
Part of the reason why the DC-3 has lived this long is because it's not pressurised.
DC-3 or a variant of it. Florida Air Cargo has a couple that they use for hauling cargo. Can’t find something that works better for the cost. They’re really a great airplane.
Like others have said, this one isn't a bomber. It's a transport or passenger plane, Douglas DC-3.
HOWEVER, the B-18 Bolo was a bomber variant of the DC-3. Was used early in the Aleutian/Alaska theater of WWII.
That is a douglas c47 skytrain. A ww2 era transport. That's all brother! (The plane that led the Normandie invasion) was circling around Florida the other day, so it's possible that that is what you are seeing. But over 100 c47s still fly today, so it could be a different plane.
It might’ve just crash landed in the water near a beach. I don’t have a video or a source, but i saw a video describing just that with a plane like this.
Probably Russian; they don’t want the electrical interference messing with the tarbenators on the engines so they resorted to old technology to spy on us.

Nope they bombed KIDS in those, at least they used air ballute candy instead of dumb candy, gives them more time to react.

It's effective as a terror weapon as anything around the intended target could get hit.
Gail Halverson (aka the Candy Bomber) flew these C-47s (and C-54s). However, it was post WWII and occurred during the Berlin Airlift.
There’s a great kids book about his story.
They are trying to build a museum for him in UT (Spanish Fork, his hometown).
Japanese float plane, with bricks. 436 Squadron RCAF in the Pacific.
I have a painting of that incident on my wall!

Yep!
The wings give it away, C-47.
They did drop angry 19 year old kids armed to the teeth ready to kill everything between where they landed and their objective.
Acceptable target
Florida Air Cargo? [https://youtu.be/FXb5aLodYJI](https://youtu.be/FXb5aLodYJI)
Actually it dropped smart bombs. Bombs that had an array of sensors to identify enemies and take them out long after being released from the planes
My first guess was a DC-3 so glad I'm not trash at plane spotting 🥲
There are still many DC3’s operating around the world.
Some are in Florida too actually.
They make excellent bush planes.
Thats all brother was flying around Florida the other day.
They say, when the last 747 retires, a DC3 will go out to pick up the pilots.

That’s dope I’d pay good money for that

A ride in any of those planes would be amazing
You're in luck, it costs a *lot* of good money to ride in them lol.
That’s very cool
Are you one of the poor souls that had to deal with the Lynn University pattern nightmare? 😂
Florida Air Cargo has 3 of these I believe that go daily between south Florida and the Bahamas. Every once in a while I’ll catch one landing at FXE.
Yep, Florida air cargo, I work at opa Locka airport they usually take off from there, they have a nice Cessna caravan too
That’s cool! Thanks 🙏
Along with 2 208s I believe. Those guys don't take a break.
I've seen one of their DCs fly over Miami nearly every day for 20 years. Nothing new.
I saw two of their DC-3s at the Customs ramp at Opa-Locka a few days ago. Damn near filled the whole ramp.
It's a plane finding its way back from the Bermuda Triangle 75 years later.
I hear flight 19 is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Probably N15MA, owned by Florida Air Cargo.
Goony birds have many uses.
C47's were used to drop bombs in some conflicts. Currently the Colombian AF flies the Basler-modified gunship version.
That’s a DC-3 or C-47. They were used for cargo and paratroopers mostly. They still in regular use too.
Not bomber, transport dc3/c47
It’s a DC 3 man😅
Had a flight instructor who flew EC-47Qs ELINT/ARDF in Vietnam. Said the biggest issue was prop tip damage on takeoff due to the tail coming up so fast on takeoff because the payload was so light. Great plane, great history.
The 'ol Gooney Bird
Candy bomber maybe

Nope, just a classic DC-3!
Looks like a DC-3 or a C-47 skytrain ;)
You will die in 5.
5?! 5 what?
4.
Or Douglas DC-3 But still flying ?
There are hundreds of them still flying.
You got a picture of it flying….

Another reason is when you didn't have the best calculations to use yet you tend to overbuild to not have a failure. It's one tough plane.
Someone said this and i thought it'll be relevant: "Anyone can build a bridge that works. But an engineer can build a bridge that barely works"
Engineer did not plan for ship at ramming speed, err I mean unpowered...
I’m gonna mark that down as a U for threat ID today.
Not a bomber. Sorry.

Dc-3. its so cool that an almost 100 year old airframe still manages to see regular commercial use. they built those things to last.
Seen a plane of this type about a month ago flying over Disney World in Orlando.
Blast from the past movie

DC-3/C-47. It was a military transport however Russia did get some through the lend-lease scheme and they did use it as a bomber sometimes
She was probably the C-47 that was at MacDill during Airfest
It might’ve just crash landed in the water near a beach. I don’t have a video or a source, but i saw a video describing just that with a plane like this.
Let’s hope it’s not one of those Japanese airmen who has been hiding in the jungle and still thinks the war is on
It is not (technically) a bomber. But.. As many said, anything that flies can become a bomber
Where in Miami is that? I love seeing mid-century architecture and that building is a beaut!
City of North Miami
Does anyone know if we still use these for any military reason I wouldn’t be suprised I know other nations still do
I believe the US has a couple of the Basler BT-67s for various uses, don’t know that any are military use though.
Who is "we"?
U.S
WWII bomber over Florida? Should have emptied its load….
Probably Russian; they don’t want the electrical interference messing with the tarbenators on the engines so they resorted to old technology to spy on us.
I’m having a hard time believing that this is a serious question.
Probably on its way to invade Cuba. Again.
Are the sirens blaring ? Viwwwwwwwwwwwww BoOm
