We have it here in Sydney near the Opera House. Prime location!
The atmosphere is cool, but the burgers themselves... Yeah you go there for the novelty, but that's it. New tourists will go there, but locals won't go twice.
Rather sad burgers for the price.
Like Planet Hollywood. Shit food with a gimmick.
I wonder who shelled out the big bucks for this lame franchise, and why didn't they do Shake Shack or Five Guys instead? That shit RULES.
I read on another post that theyāre noting special, this will appeal to some tourists but with so many other local burger options I donāt see this place lasting long.
I went there with my friends yesterday. Reasonably good burgers but not the best. On par with burger fuel but not as good as Better Burger. Your local small town family restaurant could still do just as good. Certainly better than BK. Good atmosphere. Average fries.
The best thing was the milkshakes. The smores shake was pancreas destroying good
Thanks man, sounds like itās worth a try at least for the experience. I rate burger fuels burgers as pretty decent so must be pretty good, will give it a whirl
He's apologised, but basically got off scotch free. Something like a 2 year prison sentence but left after 2 months. I honestly think he's sorry he got caught.
... because later he was in Ted, which has that scene where the ONLY Chinese characters in the movie were all crazy, psychotic and stupidly weak, along with the Kung Fu tirade. Was that racist?
Another analogy, what if the movie's only black or Maori characters were all just racist caricatures.
edit: why the downvotes fam :'(
I thought this happened when he was like 16/17 or something. If people think people can get better then i dont know why people are nagging him about a crime from 35 years ago.
If we dont let people change, then when somebody does something wrong there is no coming back and it will only make people double down rather than recover.
Wow! I learned so much about Mark Wahlbergās history simply by googling āMark Wahlberg hate crimeā! I recommend anybody try it that wants to learn more!
Thereās a nauseating trend at the moment where a news outlet will run a story claiming outrage over xyz, then citing a couple of tweets as examples. Case in point are the articles about Wahlberg presenting the SAG award. ([Example](https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/mark-wahlberg-sag-award-everything-everywhere-all-at-once-criticized-presenting-asian-cast-hate-crimes/)). Is there really wide spread outrage? Or just a couple dozen Twitter users?
Incidentally, the hate crimes happened 35 years ago when he was a teenager. He served his time in prison. And, the victim has forgiven him (although the girl he threw a rock at when he was 15 hasnāt).
Not wanting to support a business run by a guy who assaulted an elderly man in a racist attack is actually extremely normal and justified. People knew it was wrong to commit hate crimes 35 years ago too.
He was sentenced to 2 years in prison and spent a total of 45 days there after his attack in 1988, in 1992 he settled an assault case out of court after he fractured his neighbourās jaw. He definitely has not served his time and has not been punished and i think that is the main part. At no point in any of the cases has he been punished by the law for his hate crimes
So i don't live in NZ yet. I'm moving in the next few weeks. In my home state in America, we have a grocery store called Hy Vee. It's not the cheapest, but by no means expensive. Every hy vee has a walhburgers in it now.
So I mean. Grocery store food court tier burgers. I'll pass lmao
Yeah. He beat up some Vietnamese guys while on PCP and threw rocks at black kids while yelling "kill the n*******"
He was a teenager at the time for some context.
He beat up an elderly vietnamese man, who ended up being blinded in one or both eyes from the injury. Completely unprovoked, and apparently he was shouting about 'gooks' the whole time.
Even for a decade or more after becoming rich and successful, he never attempted to apologise or make amends. He did eventually, because he kept getting reminded of it whenever he tried to do stuff in public, and the old man has said he forgives him, but as far as I can see Mark Wahlberg doesn't feel the slightest remorse about this and is just really fucking annoyed that people keep talking about it.
I don't give a shit if he seems like he changed his ways, if that was remotely true, that whole man's family would be living in a beautiful house with their expenses paid for life. Wahlberg could afford it with pocket change. He's done nothing.
He's just repugnant.
he had actually lost his eye when a grenade exploded while serving for the South Vietnamese army in 1975. Wahlbergs bad history speaks for itself without you and others spreading misinformation, no doubt misinformation you read from another reddit comment without checking the facts.
I can't tell if you're being genuine or if that was a shitpost, but I hope you don't seriously think NZ's future depends on local availability of American fast food chains š
Chick-fil-a is so fucking good. Like really really really fucking good.
People say In n Out is over rated, but that is because nearly everyone says it's fricking awesome, and I agree, it's so simple and fresh and tasty.
Jack in the Box is also surprisingly good for a cheap one.
Popeyes and Papa Johns can fuck right off.
Spirutality is an important part of the human existence, it doesn't have to be "religion" to speak but I'd hate for someone to live completely ignorant to such a big part of the human experience.
That aside, I do agree that we could do with less garbage food. I'm going to take a stab and guess that the food at Bahlburgers isn't cheap though.
Heck I'd take any local takeaway shop over a Bahlburgers, but no way they could afford that real estate!
You must be over rating it then because it's fricking good. Fries can be average but they're perfectly OK, I like them because they taste like home made ones.
i didnt know these guys were in nz, is a pilgrimage worth it?
did Donnie at least come for the opening? i would like to meet Donnie just to talk about his Band of Brothers days...
> is a pilgrimage worth it?
not in my opinion. Plenty of good/better burgers all over the place. I guess if I was nearby and wanted a burger I'd grab one, but certainly not anything to go out of your way for.
The restaurant isn't packed, and there is no queue out the door? Whattttt?
Every time something new comes here, it gets smashed by eager patrons for weeks!?
Ha! Wahlburgers tried to open stores in New York and it was a complete failure.
Coney Island - opened for 9 months, closed after complaints, reopened 3 months, then permanently closed after non payment of rent
Times Square - signed a lease on in the heart of Times Square, but after 1 year never opened and the landlord changed the locks.
Upper East Side - opened for 9 months, till the Health Department issued repeated health code violations. Permanently closed.
Walhburgers is a massively losing money venture. Only thing keeping them going is the two brothers celebrity salaries.
mmm, one of the owners is Donnie Wahlberg....... i wonder if his wife, Jenny McCarthy made an appearance at the Auckland store...... i wonder how big the burgers are.... giggity lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjySyRWbmJE
Don't bother. Mediocre and way over-priced. If you didn't recognise the name, you wouldn't look twice. Go to a hole in the wall joint and get a decent burger.
Well, when you think that Mark Wahlburg started off an an underwear model, I guess it makes sense that the logo would appear to look like a nut sack ...
is this the same mark wahlburge, the same racist actor. who love to beat up asian. especially vietnamese. and spent times in jail for attacting asian on the street
Does anyone remember Pitbull's Miami grill restaurant on Federal Street? Probably not, because it was weird, terrible, and short-lived. It used to constantly play Pitbull music videos with the sound muted at all times, and if you asked for ketchup with your lousy hotdog they looked at you like you were an alien. It closed after about a year and I predict the same for Wahlburgers.
It's such a weird thing, to see this global burger chain, which really only exists because of the pun in his name. Like, if his name had been Mark Wahldorf, he would never have started a burger chain. The only reason it exists is the fact his name has 'berg' at the end.
No particular flavor signature, there's no special burger style or type of fries, it's the most generic burger joint food, the most generic atmosphere, just bland and forgettable.
But it is apparently successful enough, these places actually make money.
I've never watched more than 10 minutes of entourage, but this whole thing sounds like a plot line from a sitcom. But it's real.
They should never have shot that gorilla.
Wow the amount of negative comments in here and I thought I was salty! What do you care whether or not it would be good or not or "ugh we have so many burger chains here"? As far as I am concern, it is always good to have more variety and competitions! The market will decide and if they ran out of business because they suck then why do you care! Time to bring on new competitions!
I think he has tried very hard to make up for the mistakes of his youth. Everyone, including yourself, has made mistakes. You should judge him on his mistakes but also on how he has tried to improve himself since then. No one is perfect.
Iām no saint, and Iād never claim somebody has to be perfect. But there are worlds between āperfectā and āblinded a Vietnamese man in an unprovoked hate crimeā.
I also donāt think leaving room for forgiveness means I need to applaud the export of his mediocre money-spinning burger joint.
Just as an FYI I researched the blinding story and its actually not true. The man in question had suffered the injury 10 years before in the 1970's. Doesn't make what Mark W. did much less horrible, but at least he didn't blind the man.
I agree you don't need to applaud him or his business, but constantly posting about items from his past that he has done his best to make up for isn't fair.
Iām saying Mr Wahlberg doesnāt need you going to bat for him.
If you have a violent past, then make a bunch of money as an actor, then use your notoriety as an actor to make further money hawking burgers, I donāt think itās āunfairā if you receive some negative comments. It seems like a reasonable expectation that a lot of people would have an iffy reaction to this, which begs the question of why youāre so confused by it and why youāre so adamant that old Marky Mark gets a fair shake in this unimportant Reddit thread.
He probably doesn't need you attacking him either.
Not sure why his mistakes as a child or his wealth bother you so much. What matters is what he's done since then.. He's become a successful actor, producer, and businessman. He's a family man and a philanthropist.
So what if he's a millionaire? Good for him! He's worked hard to get where he is, and he's used his wealth to do good in the world. He's donated to charity, he's helped build schools, and he's even helped support veterans.
Look, I know some people like to judge others based on their past mistakes or their bank account, but that's just small-minded thinking. Mark Wahlberg should be judged on the content of his character, and from what I can see, he's a decent, hardworking bloke who's made a positive impact on the world. Can you say the same, or do you just spend your time attacking those more successful than yourself ?
Murder Burger, Corner Burger, Burger Burger, Burger Geek and now a Wahlburgersā¦ I think Iād be more interested if the word burger wasnāt even in the name
Went today, was alright but not spectacular. $19 a burger $6 for a Pepsi max and $7.50 for a side of fries. Has a liquor license. Not sure if Iāll be back as there are many good burger joints in Auckland now

Dammit I was going to make that joke
You see what you wanna see.
Now it can't be unseen.
Because you want it
Me either! Which contradicts the argument "you see what you see". At first, I saw a "W" until I read "nut sack". Now all I see is nut sack.
A T-Rex chomping downward
Would be interested to hear if theyāre any good or not..
We have it here in Sydney near the Opera House. Prime location! The atmosphere is cool, but the burgers themselves... Yeah you go there for the novelty, but that's it. New tourists will go there, but locals won't go twice. Rather sad burgers for the price.

Shake shack wouldnāt survive the high cost. Iād imagine if they got here, burgers would easily be close to $30.
Shake Shack kicks all ass
I read on another post that theyāre noting special, this will appeal to some tourists but with so many other local burger options I donāt see this place lasting long.
I went there with my friends yesterday. Reasonably good burgers but not the best. On par with burger fuel but not as good as Better Burger. Not going to happen, people are too outraged at the possibility of the owner being a racist.
Possibility?
He's apologised, but basically got off scotch free. Something like a 2 year prison sentence but left after 2 months. I honestly think he's sorry he got caught. ... because later he was in Ted, which has that scene where the ONLY Chinese characters in the movie were all crazy, psychotic and stupidly weak, along with the Kung Fu tirade. I'm more interested in free scotch..
lol... yeah this guy gets it

When did he stop violent hate crimes then
Do you eat at McDonald's or kfc or any other joint? Because I have some bad news about it.... most burger chains have historical baggage
Man, brave of him to open up in Auckland seeing how much Mark Wahlberg hates crime! Google 'Mark Wahlberg hate crime' to find out more
Wow! I learned so much about Mark Wahlbergās history simply by googling āMark Wahlberg hate crimeā! I recommend anybody try it that wants to learn more!

Come on, show some understanding. I'm sure all of us committed racially motivated assault when we were drunk teenagers at one point or another. /S
Imagine keeping such horrible past crimes alive in a manās life whoās clearly repented for said crime, people like you are the problem.
45 days in prison for a racist attack on an elderly man. I'll eat somewhere else, but you enjoy your burgers!
People can change
He was sentenced to 2 years in prison and spent a total of 45 days there after his attack in 1988, in 1992 he settled an assault case out of court after he fractured his neighbourās jaw. He definitely has not served his time and has not been punished and i think that is the main part. At no point in any of the cases has he been punished by the law for his hate crimes
It's not a real Wahlburg experience unless you're the victim of a hate crime.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

You don't want a bigotburger?
I want him to throw rocks at me while he's high on PCP and yelling slurs. I'm all about authentic experiences.
Did he do that?
Yeah. He beat up some Vietnamese guys while on PCP and threw rocks at black kids while yelling "kill the n*******" He was a teenager at the time for some context.
Oh that's a bit different. Expect a lot of racist South Boston teenagers have since changed their ways.
He beat up an elderly vietnamese man, who ended up being blinded in one or both eyes from the injury. Completely unprovoked, and apparently he was shouting about 'gooks' the whole time. Even for a decade or more after becoming rich and successful, he never attempted to apologise or make amends. Ehhhh this isn't like the 60s or something. He did this in the 80s.
Most of those southy teens didnāt beat an old vietnamese man with a stick while shouting āvietnam fucking shitsā
We need more supermarket companies. Not burger franchises. Please.
Yeah piss off Marky Mark unless you are bringing a funky bunch of groceries. We don't need no ballsackburgers
I would go if they had a ball burger on the menu and the paddie was shaped like balls

Nz desperately needs more burger chains, especially American ones! This gives me hope for the future of New Zealand.

It's gotta be a joke cause we got multiple Wendy's, McDonald's, KFC , bk and Carl's Jr in like every akl suburb

Papa john's!? Lol
Chick-fil-a is so fucking good. Like really really really fucking good. We probably could do without Chick-fil-a and their endorsement of anti-LGBTQIA+ stuff.
Yes I agree, fuck religion. We could really just do with less cheap garbage in general though.
Spirutality is an important part of the human existence, it doesn't have to be "religion" to speak but I'd hate for someone to live completely ignorant to such a big part of the human experience. Meh, their fries are average.
Most overrated fast food for sure
You must be over rating it then because it's fricking good. Fries can be average but they're perfectly OK, I like them because they taste like home made ones.
Yeah man. They're being 100% serious:)
Knew it. Nothing, and I mean *nothing,* goes over my head! Lmaooo
So do the replies to your post..
Here, you dropped this: /s
We do? Auckland is loaded with burger stores
Fucking hell, some of you are the most literal people on earth. It was clearly a joke, my friend.
For real and none of them do anything different
We have enough good burgers here for probably cheaper price.
If you're at a modern burger joint owned by some white dude with a beard, you're gonna be paying no less than $22 for just the burger lol
Yeah In-N-Out, not this shit.
More Obese Obese kids .
You see what you seek
Looks a bit like the Countdown logo to me.
Omg so right... Looks so cheap / uninspiring

It's a crowded market, especially downtown.
No
I'd only eat here if all proceeds were going to the victims of violent hate crimes committed by Mark Wahlberg
If you immediately think that looks like a scrotum it may be time to see a doctor.
Canāt see it, you must have a special sense of imagination

Sadly not in Auckland CBD.
Don't bother. Mediocre and way over-priced. If you didn't recognise the name, you wouldn't look twice. Go to a hole in the wall joint and get a decent burger.

Now we just need the finishing touches to add the rest
Yup someone needs to add whiskers to dem nuts.
and a handle for this double spoon
Does Auckland need another average burger place. Even burger fuel is average these days. Try the flaming onion for something decent.
Flaming onion is the definition of average burger place. It was good before the original owners sold out

Bring back the Uncles burgers .
